I'm so sorry you lost your job. I know you had plans to retire soon, just not this soon. I wish good things for you - whether that be a decision to officially retire now or a new promising career. And congratulations on getting below 250!! That was a huge milestone for me. So many things have a 250 pound weight limit - chairs, step ladders, even exercise equipment! Getting below that number made me feel like a normal fat person - like the difference between Morbidly obese and plain old obese on the BMI scale. You conquered that milestone and now Onederland is not too far off. I hope you have a great time at the coast. Walking along the coast always centers my soul and helps me put things in perspective.

@mandti7213 - I'm glad you found inspiration here. Speaking for myself, finding this monthly thread may have been the major reason that I have logged all my food consistently for over 400 days (and lost 114 pounds in the process). Having a place to state my goals publicly and then account for them publicly was a game changer. It took away my shame. And I found support and some great advice. And it helped me be accountable to myself.

I'm glad you found an exercise you love and I encourage you to keep it up. Just remember that eating more calories than you burn is the only way you can lose fat. When I started trying to lose weight, I hadn't been exercising already, and I didn't add it at first. Eating at a deficit was hard enough on its own (at least in the beginning - it does get easier - I promise), so I just concentrated on that for a while. If you aren't already tracking your food, I'd encourage you to do so. Best of luck to you!

@speyerj - that's exactly it. I work in healthcare, and with a fairly tight-knit group of people, so we're all up in each other's business a lot of the time, but I just never quite know what to say. It's a good thing scrub pants have drawstrings though, or else I'd have to do some shopping.

and that's awesome you started running around my same weight! didn't you just do a half-marathon? super inspiring! I'd love to build up to that kind of mileage. and I love that idea, to start with determination, end with satisfaction. I don't even really hate running now, although I do wish it wasn't so dang hot.

@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 - your cat is adorable, by the way.

    Friday Weigh In Day!

    7/3: 185.2
    7/10: 184.6 (-0.6)
    7/17: 184.0 (-0.6)
    7/24: 184.0 (-0)
    7/31:
    GW for July: 181
    UGW: 145

    Daily 5 to Thrive:
    🌺 30 minutes for me ✅
    🌺 30 minutes of exercise : ✅
    🌺 90 oz water: ✅
🌺 Sugar treats less than 10% of calories ❌
    🌺 Write 10 things I'm grateful for: ✅

Countdown to the end of the year: 21 weeks
    Loss at 1 lb/week: 163
Countdown to Wedding Season: 39 weeks

No loss, and I get why. I've gone a little overboard with sugar, haven't logged it, and I haven't been getting my 10k steps every day. It's too hot to go during the day, and work has been crazy, so I haven't gotten out in the early morning, just started straight away at work.

The way I was able to do it before was: get up at 4, walk for an hour before the sun got up (that would get me around 5-6k steps), then do the rest late in the afternoon. It's a big time consumption, 2 hours a day, but I really don't walk much around my house, just do chores and watch kids. I have been walking some- half an hour to an hour a day, just not enough for 10k steps. And I am still lifting, so there's that.

At least I didn't gain. Weight loss is a marathon, and there will be setbacks. Goal for this last week of July- lose something. Log everything. Stick to that sugar goal. I'm not going to make goal weight this month, and that's fine. I'll take progress. And my highest weights during ovulation are two pounds lower than they were last month, so I am making progress.

    Quick tags:
@KeriA I love your attitude about this. You're a lovely and strong person, and no matter what happens with your future job situation, I know you'll handle it with grace.

@mandti7213 Welcome! Weight loss is made in the kitchen, so logging your food will help a lot. Your walking game is strong, that's great!

Have a great day, everyone! I'm going to go throw out those Oreos I bought for the girls, but they don't eat them, so the oreos are a me trap. Same with that homemade frosting in the fridge...

@puboochu Welcome. Perhaps check out some of the YouTube exercise videos. They have something for everyone. I particularly like a chair yoga called: Chair Yoga to Loosen up your Back! Stretching the Diamond with Sherry Zak Morris

Thanks, I’ll look into that for sure!

Good morning! I'm going out today to get more keys cut for our new house, and going to work on the subtleties of effective arrangement of my pantry room. It's not just whether everything fits in, it's whether it has a proper place in there, where it can be found and used and replaced.

@eliezalot -- Welcome!! Nice loss from 6/19!! WTG. I'm sure you'll be in Onederland very, very soon!

@wanderinglight -- You have the right attitude and goals. There's no doubt in my mind that you'll see that scale moving in a downward trajectory very soon.

@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 -- Lovely fur babies! I have a one year old female. Her name is Mila ... sometimes called Mila Moo. LOL She's a dilute calico. Very sweet face which hides a mighty hunter. She vibrates when she sees the chipmunks on the porch. :p

@pamiede -- Congrats on regaining the downward trend! You are doing so great! You'll hit goal very soon I'm sure.

@Tarzan37 -- yep, I can relate. Basically lost about 1 lb during July. This next week I'm restructuring my goals for August. Really need to get back in the game. Good Luck 🍀

Note to self: Next time you do that sandwich, do one quarter of the bread, not half the bread. I ate too much and am uncomfortable.
However, the idea of an Italian Hot Beef sandwich is a very good one.

I'm going to be sitting and carefully digesting for a time. Oof. Also maybe not eating a heavy dinner.

I got my mug! Thank you @wanderinglight for the support, inspiration and great products! Every time I look at it I laugh. My daughter and I are fighting over it. New day here in every way. It’s 95 degrees but I’m out there in the yard doing things. Ready for a swim soon.

Thanks all for your support. I knew this was a possibility so I was somewhat prepared. My field is cyclical so I have been through this before but not with a pandemic thrown in.

@mandti7213 losing weight is more about food but of course you need to figure in the exercise. With that much exercise you need to make sure you are fueling it enough as well.
@CupcakeCruesoe I like that – weight loss is a marathon. Yes my kids were the same they wouldn’t eat a treat and it would be a temptation to me.
@ChrysalisCove I have had smart watch issues too. Sorry.
@cesse47 I listed some potential areas of focus now for me knowing I am not going right back to work and a lot was about decluttering. I think the transfer station is still closed but not good will. I do have experience teaching at the Community College level and I loved it. I also taught art to kids and home schooled a teen with autism. Right now I want work that is online/work from home with until the rate of infection slows way down. The schools here have just decided not to have in person instruction.
    Welcome new posters.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I hate it when I forget to weigh! I love your cat descriptions. Our older kittens are almost twins. At first we couldn’t tell them apart well but now it is much easier. There are not many physical differences but a bunch of personality ones.
@pamiede glad things are going again.
@speyerj I hope you figure things out and feel better soon.
@micwrites hope you had a great swim

I did a lot of walking at the beach. My good knee is complaining a bit. I walk in the water at the beach and so there is resistance with each step. My legs and knees are not used to that and walking so long. Yesterday we had a shorter walk before driving home but I am sore and stiff. Thursday we had a short walk in the morning and a longer one in the afternoon. Hopefully my legs and knees will think regular walking is easier this week. I didn’t do any weight training but my legs did have that resistance work. I stayed under my calorie goal each day since I had all that walking despite all the yummy food.

I am taking till the end of the month to consider next steps. Before my focus was on losing and getting stronger while I had the time in case I went back to work by Aug 1. Now I feel I can have a broader focus.

    Name: Jane
    Age: 55
    SW: 286.5 (6/3/19)
    GW: 175 ? Not sure
    6/30 weight: 177.0

    Weekly tracking:
    7/4: 176.2
    7/11: 174.5
    7/18: 172.9
    7/25: 172.9
    7/31:

    July goals:
Maintain my weight between 172 and 177 ✅
Continue to log food daily ✅
    Run a half marathon ✅
Continue to run 4x week ✅
Get at least 45 "active" minutes a day✅
Get at least 10,000 steps ✅

Had a really stable week weight wise, with daily weigh-ins all between 172.5 and 173.3. I may have figured out my maintenance calories. Will have to see what happens over the next month. But I am liking how I feel and look.

Only issue is that my blood pressure crept up this week and I started getting headaches. I've been off meds for about 7 weeks now. (Got taken off after a fainting spell when my blood pressure dropped too low). I'm frustrated by that. But I think I may know the cause. I stopped using my C-Pap machine about 3 weeks ago. I felt like I didn't need it since I'd lost so much weight. My occurrence of apneas during the night had gone way down and I thought maybe weight loss had cured me. Foolish Jane. I'm back to using it again and I'll keep monitoring and reach out to my doctor if a week of religious C-Pap use doesn't bring down the BP. I do not want to return to meds again!!

Some people just wind up needing the CPAP. My boyfriend was very heavy and had weight loss surgery. One of the things he was hoping for was the ability to get off the CPAP. Nope. Some people just have the insides of their heads set that way, I guess, and it doesn't matter how much you weigh.
