:) Home from walking dogs---40 minutes before breakfast and 90 after. My back has finally recovered from my overdoing last Saturday. I'll be more moderate today in my yard work but I am eager to get back to my project.

:) My visit to the new gynecologist yesterday was a great success especially in light of all the anxiety I had before going. The practice is solely women's health and her specialty is all around menopause and post menopause conditions. She is young and looks so much like someone I know and adore. There were no surprises except that she suggested cutting back on an expensive medication that I take.

:) We were quite adventurous after leaving the clinic. Jake drove me and we went to the library curbside pickup, the bank drive through, and a quick run into the grocery store for three items (we actually purchased 21 items).

:)Rita, Your knitting projects are awesome. I learned to knit socks but don't like how they feel on my feet. Today I'm going to start a new blanket for Project Linus.

:) My attitude about my weight is not what I weigh compared to others but what I weigh now compared to what I weighed when I felt terrible about myself. Today I weigh 50 pounds less than I did when I decided that I'd had enough.

Welcome new people! :D Just join in when you feel like it. It helps us if you continue to sign your name and location to get you fixed in our memory bank.

I am living in Brighton and Hove, a city on the coast of the south east of England. I moved here 20 months ago to be near my three grandchildren. Most of my life I lived in London. I spent my teenage years in Horsham, not far from here, my 3 uni years in Bristol, in the west, and 8 years recently in the countryside in Hampshire, to the west of here. I had a year in the Midlands when I was first married at 20.

You asked for it! My DDIL just sent me this pic. They are off camping for the weekend. Tent camping. :o It is supposed to be raining tomorrow! They look very happy and I know they have enjoyed it in the past.

Heather: Your younger brother has a beard similar to my DH’s. Hairlines are similar, too.

Sharon: Re Blackberries, I put several inches of water in the sink and dump them in. dirt and bugs come to the top. When I’ve cleared that out, I put the berries on cookie trays to dry. After that comes eating berries, making kuchen, an old family favorite, and freezing berries. We haven’t done that in a couple of years. :ohwell:

(((Lisa))): We’ve never owned a home that didn’t turn into a money pit. You’ll get through this. :star:

Machka: We celebrate little things rather than huge challenges. DH‘s health is our biggest challenge. He has diabetes and MS. Those are enough challenges for the foreseeable future. Our choice is to create daily fun. That includes walking in the neighborhood in nice weather & going to outdoor music events nearby. I ride my friend’s horse.

Faye: We see Mt St Helens and Mt Hood from one street above us. Trees block our view of the mountains from home during the summer. We see more when the trees shed their leaves.

Vicki: Spraying the ants with Raid didn’t seem to help at all. I was advised to try mint. I chose to try German Thyme instead and it worked. I haven’t seen the tiny monsters in a couple of days. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they won’t be back. :star:

Peach: I am a tall girl, and it took lots of hard work after finding this group to get rid of enough extra pounds to feel slim. :ohwell: During teaching days the parent group brought in treats for us—VooDoo doughnuts, Starbucks coffee with sweeties in it, ice cream, and so on. I have several tall women friends who are not slim. :ohwell:

Pip: Congrats on the new phone! You’re good to go! :star:

Cheri: “We are all very strong women and from reading here I see we have all adapted and are journeying on.” I agree. :flowerforyou:

Machka: Prior to Covid we would eat at a restaurant. Now we are celebrating at home with favorite home cooked meals. :star:

Sue in WA: Congrats on the good news from your biopsy!!!! Cancer free is very, VERY GOOD NEWS.

Heather: Don’t beat yourself up. Vanity is a huge motivator, and look how well you’ve used it! :star:

Terri: Our extended family had annual Fourth of July picnics during my growing up years. When the elders began passing away the family reunions passed with them. The last one was held at Paradise Park in Salem. I believe it has since been made into a manufactured home park. :ohwell:

Michele: I agree that Pip has the ability to use her boot whenever someone needs it. We’ll all have to be “big girls’” AKA responsible women, while she’s on the road to her new home.

Gail Kitchener from ON CAN: Welcome!!!!!

Amber in TX: Sorry to hear about your Uncle.

Sheila: I have family in IL. What part of IL are you located? :star:

Rita: I love your days calendar.

Rori: It is so good to see your post!!! I’m sorry to hear about your DB’s health worries but delighted that the VA is stepping up with home health care and respite care for your husband. This sounds like a wonderful blessing. Treading water in the now is brightened by the prospect of help for your DH’s care from the VA, the sooner the better. So sorry that your brother is suffering. I hope things improve for him, too. :star:

Barbie: “ My attitude about my weight is not what I weigh compared to others but what I weigh now compared to what I weighed when I felt terrible about myself. Today I weigh 50 pounds less than I did when I decided that I'd had enough.” You are an excellent leader. Thank you for all that you do for us. :star:

We have no plans for the day, so far. It may be a kick back and read day. I won’t mind that at all.

    Heather -
LOVE that photo of the grands. They all look very excited and anticipatory.

    Rori
    -
Thank you for stopping in--so glad the VA is stepping in, and genuinely hope they step up. You both deserve that to happen.

    Amber -
Glad you stopped in as well, was getting worried about you.

To all who are new -
Welcome! We're glad you're here. Drop into any conversation at any point, tell us a little about yourself, and sign your posts with the name you want to be called and a general area, so we can keep folks straight!

Comparative weights - I stopped comparing myself to other women in the sense of weight... and quit torturing my husband with it as well. You know the question... "Is my butt as big as hers?" There is no good answer for that. If he says "No," you think he's fibbing, and if he says "Yes," you get your feelings hurt. Not fair to the DH at all.

    Elliptical - ✅ - 46 minutes
    Rower - ✅ - 20 minutes
Shopping - ✅ - Completed for the week

    Today may require a nap.

    Later, y'all,
    Love,
    Lisa in AR

Really enjoying this thread. BARBIE sorry I forgot you were NW. I consider BC Pacific NW. So interesting where everyone is from and share a common goal of taking responsibility for our fitness. I love there is no judgment about body shapes and what our goals might be. I know AARP considers 50 seniors, but that is to make more money. Some places here have senior discounts for 55, others 60, and 65, but most no discount at all. I always forgot to ask for it. My last hairdresser always gave it to me and I left her the savings as a tip on top of my regular tip.

Having trouble with my eyes being out of sync this morning. I don't see any floaters that the specialist says is the problem as both eyes focus and are clear individually. The left eye is 50% peripheral vision loss due to glaucoma. I hope I haven't overlooked replying to anyone. I am amazed at how fast-moving this thread is. I love wearing skirts although I seldom do anymore. I think this was the last time I used foundation and highlighting blush. It made me look so pale. Also, I retired those awful glasses. I was going to the graduation of a friend's granddaughter, so I got all spiffed up. I remember my grandma calling it getting all spruced up and my mother saying all dolled up.

I have been trying to make lemonade out of quarantine. This shift in lifestyle offered me a perfect time to make some positive changes for myself. Working from home allows me to use my commuting time for better purposes, and i have added what I call "wogs" to my morning and evening, with mileage adding up to over 4 miles per day. I am trying for more jog, less walk. What began as a major change is now a habit that I enjoy. Lemonade!

I am frustrated by plateaus in my weight loss. I am not sure if this is my age, or my body freaking out at a fair amount of weight lost, but it seems like even when I am operating at a significant deficit calorie, my weight levels off for weeks at a time.

I have added a couple of weight bearing/HIT type workouts a couple of times a week. Do others have this same challenge. How the heck do I break through the plateaus? I don't want to become discouraged or lose sight of my long term weight loss and health goals. Thanks for your insights.

Faye - I think the expression here is "You scrub up well!" :p I like to 'put my face on', which I don't do often enough. Without my face I look too much like my mother, in my opinion. Plus OLD. :# Getting dolled up really cheers me up, but I'm too lazy to do it unless I have to. Luckily DH loves me whatever I look like. <3
I am quite competitive and don't like to look the worst in the room. I like to wear age neutral clothes. Brighton and Hove is a very fashionable area and I do like to blend in with the 'with it' crowd, as we used to call it. I won't wear all the stuff young people wear, (not too much saggy flesh visible), but I try not to wear things that they wouldn't wear. That is a huge motivation to stay in the normal weight range. Right now I would like to lose just a few pounds.

The way I found to break through the plateaus was patience and keep doing what you have been, but explore new routines for areas you want to target. Consider where your weight is and do what is best to target that area. Maybe think about the balance of your diet as opposed to calories. Make sure your body is using its fuel efficiently. Excercise should produce muscle and not fat, so maybe a plateau in weight is you have replaced fat with muscle.

Cheri at college station, please don’t post flashing things in a larger space. I’m not epileptic, but it bothers my eyes terribly.

Ginny, I’m glad your daughter-in-law is recovering, but so sorry to hear she had it. You must have been very worried.

Celebrations: usually I’d have driven up to spend time with family or gone on a solo 1 or 2 day road trip, such as Portland and back, or out to the Strait or to the ocean beaches at Westport. Going fishing is something I want to take up again. Treating myself to a movie that deserves a large cinema screen is something I hope to be able to do again soon.

Insects! i desensitized myself to spiders by studying them, watching videos of them spinning their webs, etc. Ants I see very rarely. What REALLY bugs me are the slugs that crawl in under the screen doors on my sleeping porch. Bella tried eating a couple and promptly threw up or I’d have not known what was wrong. I think I’ll try the aluminum foil under the door where there’s a space at the bittom. I’m still afraid of stinging insects, although not bees of any sort. Getting stung by a Yellowjacket once convinced me I don’t want to observe them or hornets closely. I’m no longer afraid of crane flies, but am terrified of mosquitos mostly because any bite I get turns into an open weeping sore after the bump stage. I must have an allergy, I guess. Plus there all the diseases they carry nowadays.

Sharon Near Seattle and still awake at 5:30am I have no idea why I occasionally throw myself under the bus like this. Probably boredom.

    Sharon,
My cousin who grew up in Lake Stevens, WA hates those big slugs you have up there. They had huge ones in their yard and it would drive her crazy seeing them. Even as an adult/mom, she still hates them. They still live up there but not in Lake Stevens(can't remember the town) but my aunt and other cousins still live there.
