Congrats on the new shoes @ABabilonia! I love my Brooks Ghosts. I try other shoes from time to time but always come back to them.
Thanks @Teresa502 I absolutely love the Ghost. I briefly tried the Adrenaline, but the Ghost work better for me.2 -
@shanaber - Thanks for responding! I've been looking up tips and have been incorporating fartleks and some pace intervals. But despite those efforts, I haven't seen improvement. Yesterday was rather demoralizing because I was 2min slower than my usual on the run I do the most frequently (3.76mile), and this was me thinking the whole time during that run that I felt like I was going a little faster for once!
It takes time and dedication. Also, assuming you are in the northern hemisphere, it is summer and once the temperature passes 60 degrees F (15C) you pace suffers. It becomes harder to run at the same pace vs doing it at a cooler temperature. Dew point is another major factor. So much so that you really can not compare runs, even on the same route, unless the weather was identical.

10k virtual trail race this morning. It's been months since I've been on the trail. Forgot how hard it is LOL I walked probably half of it. It was really windy and hot.

Doggo with my medal. She wanted to eat the medal 🙄

I just bought a new pair of Ghosts also - they are my go-to shoe as well. I got the 12s on sale while they still have them. I like the look of the 13s though and I hope they are as good. I wore my new ones today and it felt good to have new cushion again. But I always need to work on getting the lacing right when I get a new pair because my toes go numb if it's too tight.

I don't think I posted yesterday, but I did a run mid-afternoon on campus. It was hot, but not as brutal as it has been. It was interesting to see the preparation for things starting up in another week. They have some tents set up on the quad for students to hang out in and study/do online classes if needed. And circles drawn on the grass to space people 6 ft apart. It should be a very interesting semester. Anyway, I looped around the campus a bit and back to my car to finish up 3 miles.
This morning was a beautiful morning. Before we started running it felt so nice, but I knew it would seem hot as soon as we got going. And it did, but much improved over the last few weeks. We had an out and back planned with cars at both ends so we could refill water at the halfway point before heading back. They haven't opened the bathrooms or turned on the water fountains at that end of the park so it was nice to be able to get some cold fresh water midway.
I'm heading back to the Adirondacks for some more hiking tomorrow. Have a great weekend everyone.6 -
@Scott6255 Hahaha. Hate it when that happens. Sounds like a good run, despite the heat.
@msapplek Try to not be discouraged. Keep doing the things you need to do and you will improve. Also, I forget where you live, but if it is hot and humid that can really affect your performance and perceived effort. - I see I'm not the only one with this advice. Great minds and all.....
@RunsOnEspresso Your doggie is adorable. Glad you got the trail run done, even if it was harder than you remember.
@katharmonic School preparation sounds interesting. You were smart to have fresh water at your half way point. Enjoy your hiking tomorrow. Will be looking forward to hearing about it and seeing pictures.1 -

Just put in the training at this point. You get a little stronger each run you do. The speed will come; be patient.3 -
@msapplek Yes, like everyone is saying, you have to have patience as a runner. Speed and endurance take a long time (for most of us, although there are a few exceptions). Just try to keep running consistently, and when the cooler weather comes, you will surprise yourself 😁
@katharmonic @Teresa502 @ABabilonia add me to the Ghost fan club 😆 I have been in Ghosts for over 4 years now. I have tried a multitude of others from other companies and other Brooks, but always come back to the Ghost. I hope the 13's don't change too much too. Have had 3 pairs of the 12's, and will go to the 13's when I can't find anymore 12's.3 -
I think I was the driver of the struggle bus this morning. Although there was good cloud cover, it was so humid out there - 98%! I kept hoping to get rained on but no such luck. I had 16 on my schedule but only made it to 15 and that last mile was pure torture! I ran with a couple of friends and we looped back to the car at mile 8 for a water refill and it was so hard getting back out there. But, it is done!
All this talk about shoes is making me want to try to find a deal on the Ghost 12. I just put a pair into rotation so I need a pair in reserve right?5 -
I got my partner for the ERace Racism Virtual Challenge! I’m doing the 50 mile challenge. The deal with this challenge is you are supposed to get to know someone of a different race and background, so you fill out the form and they pair you with a team member and you swap contact info. My partner is a woman my age, black, and lives in Kentucky. I have contacted her but haven’t heard back yet.
I also did my first 10k for the challenge, half run and half walk. Hot and nasty, but knee felt pretty good and I think I am adjusting to the heat some, the run felt better than recent runs.
Covid related talk:Yesterday was my 27th wedding anniversary and I gotta say it was a little depressing. My iPad sent me this slideshow of photos from the same day last year, and last year we dressed up nicely and we went out to a fancy restaurant, then had a lovely sunset run at the Greenline. This year I don’t dare go near the Greenline because it’s too crowded, I wouldn’t set foot inside a restaurant, there’s no one to see you dress up, and I don’t think the place we went last year even exists now! Instead my husband and I went for a long walk, danced to music together, and ate Indian takeaway. We tried hard to make it a special occasion but we were both tired and in a mood and it was a disappointing day. However, we had a long, long hug at the end of the day and he said, “Hey, at least nobody’s dead.” And I said, “Right now that is literally a victory by itself,” and he said, “I wasn’t joking.”9 -
@Teresa502 Sounds like a brutal run. You should be proud for doing what you did.
@rheddmobile Glad the run went well and your knee is doing better! Happy Anniversary! Sorry it was disappointing. Maybe you can make up for it next year.2 -

So her father is like "Well they can still get together and just wear masks the whole time and stay socially distant"
Right. Sure. They will do that even when no one is staring right at them. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yah, unsupervised teenagers following rules?
In case y'all were wondering, big meanie dad called off the get together until the test results come back. I expect they will be negative, and I expect it would have been fine.
I am preaching on Sunday which means I can not self-isolate until Monday at the earliest if the test does come positive so that made a convenient excuse. Though to be fair, he is used to meanie dad "I said no, it is not up for discussion." - It is super nice mom that tries to explain and convince. 🤷♂️
The co-workers test came back negative.7 -

Agree! 27 is a big accomplishment! My wife and I just celebrated 24 back on the 4th. Normally we would have gone to a steak house or something. Instead, we stayed home and watched a movie. Ah well, next yere is coming!

Well, the weather has come to the lockdown party once again here in Auckland. It's simply stunning. Running was a real joy this morning - about 12˚C, cloudless skies and not a breath of wind. Lockdown bonus: very little traffic. Lockdown killjoy: Every man and woman and their children on bicycles and toddlers on scooters and babies in pushchairs and dogs (on leashes, thankfully) were out enjoying the beautiful day too. But I'll forgive them because they were all very courteous and considerate and friendly.
I had a fab run. Usually Sunday is a 2 hour aerobic long run but today, in anticipation of my next half in five weeks, we're increasing intensity on the longer runs. Which actually meant my long run was shorter, but harder: 30 minutes aerobic, 30 minutes tempo, 30 aerobic. I fear next week it'll be back to 2 hours but with 30 minutes of tempo thrown in, and then 2 hours plus 30 minutes tempo to finish the following week. Trainers, while effective, are evil.
Anyhoo. Lovely day. Lovely run. New 10 mile PB. Happy camper here.8 -

I absolutely love the Ghost 13. They don't feel much different to the 12. I was initially going to buy the 12, but unfortunately my width (4E) was out of stock. I was ready to maybe try New Balance or Asics Gel Kayano when I saw the Ghost 13☺️. Definitely my favorite shoe.
@RunsOnEspresso Your dog is so super cute. I was thinking about buying a dog, so he/she could be my running partner, but due to unusual circumstances I ended up with this little guy. He may not be my running partner, but he is definitely cute 🤭

So envious. The weather here was equally stunning, but working and still no running.
I have a PT appt in 2 weeks, will start doing strength, then 2 weeks after that I'll hopefully start again. Fingers crossed5 -

You’ll be back in no time, and stronger than ever. Remember to take care of yourself and build up your mileage slowly. You’ve got loads of time - you’re still young in runners years!!!3 -

Hey congrats!!!

Ugh, I’ve had continued headaches and fatigue for several days, so I went to the doctor. I had really bad migraines when I was younger, and while these aren’t quite to that level, I have felt pretty awful. Their solution was to take Tylenol and drink plenty of water (well, duh, that’s what I’ve been doing) and to give me a COVID test since we’d had positive cases at work and since these are possible symptoms. Now, I can’t go to work until the results come back, which is stressing me and making my head hurt worse because things are crazy at work, and I don’t exactly have confidence in some of my staff at the moment.
So, no running right now until I get these headaches under control.10 -

Yay @ContraryMaryMary for your 10 mile PB! And 12°C sounds like a dream!0 -
Oh big hugs @marisap2010! Sorry you are feeling so bad, and the pressure of work doesn't help. Hope you get (negative) results back soon!1
