Well, the weather has come to the lockdown party once again here in Auckland. It's simply stunning. Running was a real joy this morning - about 12˚C, cloudless skies and not a breath of wind. Lockdown bonus: very little traffic. Lockdown killjoy: Every man and woman and their children on bicycles and toddlers on scooters and babies in pushchairs and dogs (on leashes, thankfully) were out enjoying the beautiful day too. But I'll forgive them because they were all very courteous and considerate and friendly.
I had a fab run. Usually Sunday is a 2 hour aerobic long run but today, in anticipation of my next half in five weeks, we're increasing intensity on the longer runs. Which actually meant my long run was shorter, but harder: 30 minutes aerobic, 30 minutes tempo, 30 aerobic. I fear next week it'll be back to 2 hours but with 30 minutes of tempo thrown in, and then 2 hours plus 30 minutes tempo to finish the following week. Trainers, while effective, are evil.
Anyhoo. Lovely day. Lovely run. New 10 mile PB. Happy camper here.8 -
@katharmonic @Teresa502 @ABabilonia add me to the Ghost fan club 😆 I have been in Ghosts for over 4 years now. I have tried a multitude of others from other companies and other Brooks, but always come back to the Ghost. I hope the 13's don't change too much too. Have had 3 pairs of the 12's, and will go to the 13's when I can't find anymore 12's.
I absolutely love the Ghost 13. They don't feel much different to the 12. I was initially going to buy the 12, but unfortunately my width (4E) was out of stock. I was ready to maybe try New Balance or Asics Gel Kayano when I saw the Ghost 13☺️. Definitely my favorite shoe.
@RunsOnEspresso Your dog is so super cute. I was thinking about buying a dog, so he/she could be my running partner, but due to unusual circumstances I ended up with this little guy. He may not be my running partner, but he is definitely cute 🤭

So envious. The weather here was equally stunning, but working and still no running.
I have a PT appt in 2 weeks, will start doing strength, then 2 weeks after that I'll hopefully start again. Fingers crossed5 -

You’ll be back in no time, and stronger than ever. Remember to take care of yourself and build up your mileage slowly. You’ve got loads of time - you’re still young in runners years!!!3 -

Ugh, I’ve had continued headaches and fatigue for several days, so I went to the doctor. I had really bad migraines when I was younger, and while these aren’t quite to that level, I have felt pretty awful. Their solution was to take Tylenol and drink plenty of water (well, duh, that’s what I’ve been doing) and to give me a COVID test since we’d had positive cases at work and since these are possible symptoms. Now, I can’t go to work until the results come back, which is stressing me and making my head hurt worse because things are crazy at work, and I don’t exactly have confidence in some of my staff at the moment.
So, no running right now until I get these headaches under control.10 -

Been off for awhile. Have had some bad news recently - my cousin who is 48 is in ICU on a ventilator, unconscious.
He has lymphoma, and though he had seemed to be better a few months ago after his last chemo, it came back and has now spread to other organs. It is just so sad. And I cannot go to Toronto without 14 day quarantine because of COVID-19. They are not giving him much more time.
I have been continuing my running - trying to still get about 20-25 miles a week, and spinning.
Hugs and likes to everyone and Happy Anniversary too everyone "celebrating!"13 -
@rheddmobile - I'm sorry you couldn't have a fun celebration out for your anniversary. We had that same feeling on ours in July. We just BBQ'd and hung out at home. Hoping next year will be much better for all of us and our various celebrations!
I am surprised you haven't heard from your eRace Racism partner. I texted mine on Friday evening and she got right back to me. She is an ob/gyn who lives in NC. A bit younger than me but has an adult son who lives in Los Angeles (asked me if I could just runner and check up on him for her 😁). I think @quilteryoyo asked how they paired us up (maybe on my newsfeed?). I think they take people who wanted to do the same distance (200 mile for my team) and then paired by age and different backgrounds. I doubt there were too many my age requesting for the 200 mile challenge so they got as close to maybe group as possible? Just a guess on my part.
@RunsOnEspresso - Love Shadow! She looks very happy with your medal even if she couldn't eat it!
@ABabilonia - your pup is adorable! Maybe he needs an bigger buddy to be his partner in crime who could also be your running buddy 😁
@ContraryMaryMary - your run sounds wonderful and congratulations on the PB!
@marisap2010 - hope you feel better and your test is negative! They used to give me a medication with caffeine to help my migraines. Would having some caffeine possibly help?
Yesterday I surprised myself and got up and out by 6:30am, motivated to get my 1st run in for the eRace Racism challenge. I guess having a partner you don't want to let down helps! It was already getting hot with way more humidity than we are used to here. Walked the first .5 mile then ran to the trail. By about 2.5 miles out I felt terrible with nothing left and my legs were so tired. Sat down and had a talk with myself... I could just give up call my husband and have him come and get me or try something else. So I pulled up my interval timer and set out to do 90sec run 30 sec walk to finish the run home. Looking at my HR I am sure it was at least part of the issue again. After the initial run period it just wasn't keeping up. It was jumping up to 130 occasionally but then would drop off again eventually settling around 100 and staying there until I was almost home where it jumped to 150. I am still hopeful the PM and my body will adjust to each other but September can't come soon enough to see the doctor and find out what is going on.
We have record setting heat on tap for at least the next week so I am planning to set the alarm and be up and out early to run.

Happy Anniversary @kgirlhart ! Hoping you enjoy your day, even though it will be different.
@ContraryMaryMary Glad you had such an enjoyable run and congrats on the PB for 10 miles! Sorry about being back in lock down, but hopefully it will be back under control soon.
@ABabilonia Your puppy is really cute!
@marisap2010 Hope you get the headaches under control and that your test comes back negative.
@hamsterwheel6 Hugs to you. So sorry to hear about your cousin. Cancer is a horrible thing and CoVid makes it harder on the family since you can't be there with them.
@shanaber Glad you were able to get your run in. Sorry the PM is still causing you issues. Can you call them and let them know what it is doing? Maybe that way they will be ready with a fix when you have your next appointment. I can see how having a lower HR than it would normally be would make it hard to run.0 -
I got up early this morning so I could get my long run in before virtual church. Got out of the house at 7:05. It was 66°F and 100% humidity. The temperature wasn't bad, but oh that humidity!
I had decided yesterday, since I am doing more of my long runs on Sunday's, to make a new play list with hymns. Well, they were all way to slow. Then, I stumbled upon some Southern Gospel Quartet music. Don't know why I hadn't thought of that before. I was raised on that kind of music and really like it....and it's really peppy. It made my 8 mile run a lot more enjoyable.
Speaking of the run, I did okay for the first 4 miles - keeping my pace right at 13:20 min/mile. Mile 5 was a little slower and then I flagged down @Teresa502 's struggle bus that she was driving yesterday, and jumped on. Miles 6 and 7 were just hard. I wanted to quit, but wouldn't let myself. I did take more walk breaks so I could keep going. The splits were 14:06 and 14:38. I made a longer pit stop after mile 7 to call my mom and dad. They knew I was out running, but I had hoped to be done by 9. When I wasn't, I was afraid they would worry about me, so I called them while walking around so I wouldn't cramp up. Because of the break, I was hoping mile 8 would be a lot better. Nope. Well, it was a little better and I did fartleks to try to make it go faster. I kept telling myself that it was just 3 laps, just 2 more laps, this is the last lap. You've got this! I was able to muster enough to pick up the pace significantly for the last tenth of a mile - best pace being 9:35 min/mile. So, overall I was pleased with how I did in those conditions.
I achieved a milestone today that I could have done without. TMI in the spoiler.I normally go to the bathroom before I head out to run. I didn't feel the need today, so just went on out. Around mile 3, I felt a little bit of a need, but it went away, so I thought nothing else of it. When I stopped to call mom and dad, I sat down on my lawn chair to get something out of my shoe. When I stood up, I noticed something brown on the chair, but thought nothing of it, just wondered what it was. I finished up the run and cool down walk and decided to try to use the bathroom before I took a shower. When I pulled my running skirt down, there was some brown liquid and I was really wondering "What in the world?" Imagine my surprise when I pulled down the underwear and it was full of poop. Apparently, I had my first bout of runners diarrhea and didn't even feel it. I guess I am a true long distance runner now. Geeze. So gross!
and 9/20 walking.

6 miles plus a little walking. 90F when I got there. At least there was a little breeze and some shade.4
-
@shanaber Definitely, my next pup will probably be a Labrador. Your dog looks super cute 🤗
@quilteryoyo Thanks!2 -
So I realize not all of you have been doing this running thing as long as I have. So today let me give you a little advice... if you set out for a 10 mile run in 85 degree weather... MAKE SURE THE STRAW IS CONNECTED TO YOUR WATER BLADDER. Otherwise, you will spend the whole run trying to figure out how you ran out of water so fast...4
