@Scott6255 Glad your mom is home!
@hamsterwheel6 Great job on your virtual race!
@ContraryMaryMary Sorry that your race was cancelled and moved. Hope the virtual race goes well.
It was raining cats and dogs last night due to Sally, so I went to the gym and ran some intervals on the treadmill.5 -
@RunsOnEspresso That sounds like a fun challenge. Who doesn't like a math riddle? What happens if you get the answer wrong?
@rheddmobile Yeah for the running and knee doing okay. Those pecans pretending to be roller skates are sneaky. Glad it wasn't worse.
@Camaramandy648 Hope your test comes back negative. I have learned that they only try to back track people who had contact with those who test positive for 2 days. So, I'm not surprised no one told you. It's not an ideal system, for sure.
@rheddmobile Will you need to amend the Challenge hound challenge, since it ended on Monday, to allow Kristi to run?
@ContraryMaryMary So sorry the HM got canceled. You'll kill the virtual one though!

Everybody stay healthy and safe!!!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders
2020 races:
9-8 to 9-13 "Virtual Boston with Vincent" Time goal 5:15:00; actual time 4:47:012 -
@quilteryoyo Each correct run is an entry into that days challenge contest so I guess if you get the math wrong you don't get an emtry for that day.
The challenges are optional. You can earn badges and entries for prizes.
ETA some challenges are easy. Like run more than the previous week or take a photo of you jumping1 -
@quilteryoyo since everyone gets their own challenge within the challenge group, and the rules are set by challenge not by group, all I needed to do was change the dates of the challenge for Kristi’s challenge. It worked!1

Easy run in light rain this morning.
@hamsterwheel6 – Love the shirt! Great job on the race – what a pace! Personally, I keep my watch running for any stops that I have to make whether it be to stretch, wait on light to change, etc. I figure in a real race, the clock still runs whether I am or not. Glad you stopped to stretch though – like @quilteryoyo said you don’t want to overdo and set back the healing process.
Glad you didn’t hurt your knee stepping on that pecan @rheddmobile. There is a section of sidewalk in my normal city route that has a lot of acorns that fall on it every Fall. Luckily, I’ve remembered it in time to slow down.
Hugs @Camaramandy648 – I hope your test is negative. Sorry for the added stressor.
@juliet3455 – I hope you heal quickly!
Oh no @ContraryMaryMary – I’m so disappointed for you. You have been training so hard girl. I’m with you @rheddmobile – I’m ready to move to New Zealand or someplace with more sane citizens!

Here is the site I use to track air quality. It tracks ozone levels as well as particulate matter. I start having issues when we get into the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Individuals' and when it gets up into the next level I can't breathe and I cough.kristinajeang wrote: »polskagirl01 wrote: »Just make sure you are taking it real easy. Dunder Mifflin Running Team virtual 5K I had just gotten my swag and wanted to run this. But. Hamstring. Decided to try anyway. Temp was perfect running 60F.
Did 1 mile warm up.
Then reset watch and started out. Felt good, and first mile was 9:02! OK maybe I can do this get a PR. Hamstring was holding up. 2nd mile 9:02! Lol what are the chances?
Then the hamstring started complaining. I was so close. I decided to stop and stretch and took of again. Had to do this 3 times to complete. The last 1.1 mile was 8:37! Whoa. But that included me stopping the watch for those stretches. So should I use that time or does it not count?
27:32 is certainly a PR. If I hadn't stopped the watch maybe add 1.5 min. So 29 ish which is still great.
Walked /ran 1.5 mile back.
So it went well as I could hope for but I'm paying for it as hamstring still complaining. At least I know I can go 2-3 miles fast lol. I'm more concerned about my real race in 2 weeks. We shall see I guess.
Don't do what I do though!
@ContraryMaryMary I am so sorry0 -
RE: Strava race guidance
For one race company, they require the Strava workout be changed to a race so it includes pauses, stops etc for their virtual race. The company actually does placement awards so it makes sense. The form to submit does have a spot for you to enter move time and actual time so it displays both. I don't care about pauses because I am not getting any awards LOL4 -
@polskagirl01 @RunsOnEspresso @Teresa502 @marisap2010
Thanks. It was a good run despite the pauses and it's too bad my stupid hamstring decided to complain. LOL.
In a real race for sure pauses get added in. I'm pretty stoked though that I could get this time or close to it if i were injury free.
So add me to the list of cancelled races. The live one that was scheduled barring approval just moved to virtual.
Sigh. I feel you @ContraryMaryMary and everyone else.
I will still run it, and run it on the course if was supposed to be, but I will probably take it easy per my hamstring and all your lovely advice.
Spinning and strength today. Hurricane Sally is coming through in rain format the next couple days.
Hugs to all affected.3 -

@rheddmobile or @Camaramandy648 Do you know when Kristi is planning to run? It would be nice if we knew when she was going to do her last few miles and maybe some of us could virtually run with her (at the same time for the same distance), assuming she isn't going to run it all at one time.....or even if she was and we could somehow know when she was near the finish line.
This week has been hard for me to get my runs in. I worked yesterday and today and scheduled for tomorrow from 8:30 - 5:30. I had grand plans to run in town, after work, before I came home. Even have clothes in the car. They've been there since Tuesday night. LOL I just can't seem to make myself, since I have to get up early the next day and do it all over again. Seems even without running, all I have time to do it take the dog for a walk, make lunch for the next day, eat, shower, sleep. I don't know how you all that have full time jobs do it. I am in awe of your discipline. I'm hoping to run tomorrow night. If not, maybe I can run both Sat and Sun. It's supposed to be down right cold in the mornings - low 40's, so I'll be able to sleep in and run in the "heat" of the day. That will be nice.5 -
@scott6255 - so glad your mom is home and doing better. Were you able to figure out if she fell walking her dog or how she got to the hospital?
@juliet3455 - hope you heal soon and can get back out for some fall running before it gets too cold there! Amazed that you have the smoke all the way up there but that sunset is gorgeous!
@hamsterwheel6 - Great job with your virtual 5k! Now to rest up that hamstring before the real race!
@ContraryMaryMary - I am so sorry about your race. I hope what your coach has set up is a reasonable replacement even if it isn't exactly what you had planned!
@RunsOnEspresso - your 'my fingers slipped on my keyboard...' comment made me laugh out loud!
@HonuNui - I think @Avidkeo is avoiding us because she hasn't been able to run. Last I saw from her she still had ~6 weeks of rehab left.
@quilteryoyo - running in the 40's sounds downright delightful! It is over 100 here again today 🥵 but in the 70's and 80's in the morning.
I got out for a run yesterday thinking the smoke was mostly gone (even though the air quality monitor didn't think so) and I was coughing and wheezing when I got home. It was also hot and very dry out. Today it was just lovely! There was literally no smoke in the air (air quality - normal!) and it was cool (mid 70's) at least at the start. Still very dry though and I had to take a chance and get a drink from one of the fountains along the trail. Saturday I will take my hydration pack. I saw some interesting trail inhabitants.
Also I finally got my new Smith Optics sunglasses yesterday so had to try them out. My old ones were 5 years old and the surface of the lenses were bubbling and flaking. They have a lifetime warranty so I took a chance and submitted a claim. It took a while to get a response but they credited me with the entire amount paid for a new pair. They no longer have the exact same pair but I got something similar. They don't fit quite as close to my face on the sides but they don't move or slip at all. I am sure I will have them for a long long time!
I also decided it was time to add one of the pairs of shoes I bought on sale and have in reserve. I don't think you can have a bad run in new bright blue running shoes! On my way out on the trail saw this socially distanced 'vulture meeting'
On my way back they were still meeting
Keeping a watch out
New shoes!
New sunglasses!

I haven't been on in a couple of days and haven't had a chance to read the post yet. My dad passed away early yesterday morning. I guess we were lucky. They actually let my mom and my 4 sisters and I to go in the room with him. But it is so hard. We thought he was getting better and then he just rapidly went downhill.15
-
@kgirlhart I'm so sorry about your dad. Sending you and your family lots of love.1
-
@kgirlhart Really sorry to hear about your dad. We're here for you.1
-
I’m so sorry @kgirlhart. You and your family are in my thoughts. Sending love and strength your way. X1
-
Oh @kgirlhart - sending you love and {{{hugs}}}! It is so hard and I am so glad you were able to be there with him. I am sure it made him feel so much better to have you all there! My thoughts are with you and your family.2
-
@kgirlhart I am so, so sorry.
I don't know what's going on with parents. My step-mother (an introvert with a fear of phones even worse than my own) called yesterday and blurted out "Your father's in hospital, they think he has a brain tumour".
They're in the UK. I'm in Spain, which the UK has on its black list for travel so even if it would do any good for me to just jump on a plane I can't because I would have to quarantine for a fortnight and that's impossible. Ugh. I feel so, so useless. I'm not good at coping with situations I can't just get on and fix.@rheddmobileor@Camaramandy648Do you know when Kristi is planning to run? It would be nice if we knew when she was going to do her last few miles and maybe some of us could virtually run with her (at the same time for the same distance), assuming she isn't going to run it all at one time.....or even if she was and we could somehow know when she was near the finish line.
I think this ^^^ is a beautiful idea, reminded me of when PV would finish a race and then go back out to find Kristi and run her in. It would be a wonderful gesture if we could run her in for him on this one.

So sorry to hear your news @kgirlhart - love and hugs to you and your family1
