@katharmonic I do use Gamin Connect and noticed the colors. Didn't really pay close attention to it - just thought it was pretty. LOL1

@quilteryoyo - I saw the cardiologist last Monday. Hobbes is a bit over 8 yo. When he runs with me and at agility he seems fine until afterwards. Last night as we were packing up to head home he just leaned against me, when typically he would be trying to visit with everyone.
So glad to hear that the VA is on top of things with your dad and taking care of those little skin cancers!
I am wondering if I can turn the air conditioner up really high and pretend it is cozy fall weather and get under a blanket! It hit at least 99F here today and is expected to be well over 100F tomorrow. The worst part is it isn't cooling down much overnight, so no cool morning running temps.
Thanks @skippygirlsmom for setting us up for October (still can't believe it is October already!)! I thought about it earlier then had to run out to an appointment so you beat me to it!
@katharmonic - I don't have a Garmin but one of the apps that reads my activities from Strava or from my watch, not sure which one it is (maybe the Withings scale?), never thinks I have run. All of my runs are logged as runs and show up that way in Strava and on my watch, so I am guessing it just thinks I am so slow I must be walking 😂
Also I forgot to comment about the personal safety discussion. I feel pretty safe on my trail when I run especially when I have Hobbes with me. He is big enough to look protective and I have had him react a few times to shady characters on the trail. I was also followed by a guy on a bike once in broad daylight and found the nearest people I could and told them there was an issue. The guy turned around and took off. I found out later he assaulted another woman and they caught and arrested him. Now I am mostly afraid of cyclists zooming down the trail and coyotes when we are out on the dirt near the river. Hobbes freaks me out looking behind us there and at the bushes as if there is something there. I also don't like the off leash dogs having been bitten twice.2 -
@katharmonic I laugh at the Garmin color. I ran a 13 and change pace and it said I was fast in the orange and red.
I can’t believe it’s October either. Glad to set it up.3 -
Well, September is done here. I missed my run today as hubby was away from 6am and won't be back until after dinner and it's school holidays so I had small children with me alllllll day. Tried to compensate a little with over three hours in the garden (didn't really come close).
Thanks to taper and recovery, September's mileage is the lowest I've had this year since signing with my coach. October, however, looks like it'll be making up for it!

Today was interval training in the woods. It's been raining for days. A nearby pond is overflowing and turned part of the trail into a stream. I had a weird thing when I was passing the abandoned military base, where I had a strong feeling I needed to go look in one of the buildings. I did, but it was empty and creepy as far in as I went, and after I looked in the first couple rooms it kinda felt like one of those horror movies where something is waiting around the corner and some expendable character stupidly walks right in. So I left. I didn't feel a need to check the rest of the rooms. No idea what was up with that. Maybe there was nothing there and my headache and the rain were messing with my brain. Moving on to some delicious Fall soup
Also - Met the distance goal!
September goal 100K (not miles, due to RACES)

The Garmin heat map shows you your pace, changing from blue to red based on your speed. It is all relative to THAT specific run. So usually mine is blue when starting, then ends red as I finish. I think it is interesting and useful.
@polskagirl01 you are a brave sole for exploring an abandoned military base. Sounds cool though, but I think I would be a little terrified.
6.2 miles for me this morning. It was an absolutely spectacular morning to run...55F, low humidity, light wind. We probably only get a handful of these a year, so I really enjoyed it. Only negative was my earbuds died after mile 1 (phone told me battery was a 60% when I started). But it was a blessing in disguise, because when I took them out I could hear my breathing was quite heavy, so I concentrated on slowing it down and quieting it down (I hate to hear myself breath, hence the earbuds). And it worked! After about another mile I calmed down and barely heard myself breathing. And don't you know it, I was faster on the last 4 miles. It's all about staying relaxed and calm. Let the chanting begin Oooooommmm So I broke past my 100 mile goal for the month.
Thanks @skippygirlsmom for setting up October! See you all there.

Meh, my three month old decided to have a slumber party with me and talk to me from 2am-4am, so I am beat today. Coupled that with the fact that I have meetings scheduled from 11-12 and 1-2 (so a narrower window for a run and lunch), I'm using today as my rest day and will do the 5k tomorrow to kick off October.
21 miles for September and I'm not even upset about it! I'm proud of myself for sticking to it even after getting injured, seeing this month to the end/making the best of it, and can't wait to see what October has in store.11 -

Morning!
Last night was rest day number two. it was actually good timing because THE TEENAGER broke her glasses a month ago, got contacts, insisted on glasses, and the replacements arrived yesterday. The eye dr is open til 7pm so at least I didn't have to miss work to go pick them up with her and get them adjusted. As well, AT LEAST the insurance covers one replacement. God help me. She got in the car this morning to go, no glasses, and then when she ran back in to get them then back to the car, THEY WERE NOT IN THE CASE.
Then she said she wants a whole new wardrobe. That's cute. I'd still like her room to be clean. And for there to be no missing assignments.
After all that, my son DESPERATELY wanted to go look at dinosaurs at the store. I was uneasy because covid, but we wore masks. We were like the only people there. I realized we used to go out all the time. He LOVES just going to look at the toys and tell me, "okay, for Christmas, if you and dad have any money and can work it out...." He hasn't been able to do this in like seven months! Seven months of being stuck at home and so worried about the state of the world. I don't think it's the worst that we have had to stay home. I believe safety is priority. I'm just saddened that his childhood in 2020 has gotten so messed up. Anyway, going out with him to a public place to just let him be a kid and have fun was so nice. When we got home, we sat in the living room and I just watched him play with his dinosaurs. We didn't buy any yesterday because Christmas is coming, but we did manage to absolutely destroy his bedroom looking for every dinosaur he owns.
So today will be rest day #3. Family time and dinner. Cod, carrots, cauliflower. Red bell pepper and pepperoni slices for the teenager and probably some rice. She's very selective of what she is willing to eat. Healthy, at least. The doctor said her bone density is great, lmao.
Anyway. Maybe run tomorrow. Or maybe not. Maybe just let the legs and ankle rest until Saturday. it's been a good week to just let my body do what it does and normalize. Today is the first day I've felt more normal and my digestive system isn't being a total freak.
@polskagirl01 I LOVE THAT! I wish I could have gone with you!8 -

28.78/26.2 milescompletedforthe@PastorVincentvs.BostonMemorial Challenge
It was another day of perfect fall running weather. I ran 6.25 miles so I guess that's a 10K to close out September with 114.72 miles. It was an uneventful run, but a really nice one. If was cool but not cold and I just enjoyed the sound of my feet hitting the pavement. The weather was even more perfect today than it was yesterday. And the moon was gorgeous this morning when I set out. I kind of felt like I could run forever. I love those kind of runs.
Thanks everyone for all the congrats to team Pavement Pounders. There is no way I could run the year in miles, but I can do it on a team. And I do have a goal to run the year in kilometers and I am only 195.23 kilometers away from that.
@Scott6255 I'm with you on loving this weather. I wish it was always like this, but I will enjoy it while I can.
@kristinajeang I didn't realize you had such a young baby. Congrats on finishing out the month strong! And I hope you get some rest.
Speaking of rest, @Camaramandy648 I'm glad you are taking a few rest days before you set off on your next adventure!
@shanaber I guess we never really stop worrying about our kids even when they are adults. I hate to hear that Hobbes is slowing down. As far as I know, 8 years is considered a "senior" dog. I have a couple of seniors, a 10 year old collie and a 13 year old min pin. They can't walk like they used to. I used to walk to the park a half mile away and then go a lap or two at the park and then head home. Now I just drive them to the park to walk because 1 mile is really about as far as the 13 year old can go anymore. But they still get extremely excited when we go for walks so I guess it is ok if they have to slow down some.
@quilteryoyo I'm glad your dad has the VA. My dad went to the VA here and they always took really good care of him. There was a time when he didn't have any other health insurance so the VA was really a blessing.
@polskagirl01 You are way braver than me. That place looks really creepy.
I guess I will head on over to the October thread. Thanks for setting us up @skippygirlsmom !
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon4 -
4 miles at half marathon pace. I always hate these runs because I like to ease into my pace. Mile 1 was hard, went a little too fast in mile 2, so backed off in mile 3 and then had fastest mile for 4. Hal said I should do this in 44 minutes, I came in just under at 43:45 (I had to round up to 4.05 because my workout stopped at 4.01 & I can't deal with that LOL)
Ended at 58 miles. I had hoped to get 70-80. Oh well. *kitten* happens. On to October!7 -
0930-8k, total-48.8k goal-80k
8km to round off the month. Didn't reach goal but it wasn't as bad as I had feared.
@polskagirl01 That place looks creepy. You're way braver than me.
@Camaramandy648 Love the way you talk about the stuff happening in your life. Way more interesting (ahem) than mine
Update on noblsheep vs. sleep:
Was onsite for an event from 24-26 and was just so knackered that I gave myself some days off from the sleep experiment. Plan to start again tomorrow. We're having the next 8 days off, public holiday in China. Will keep everybody posted.8 -

@polskagirl01 Agree, looks creepy; don't think I would have gone in. Rest of the trail was nice!
@shanaber Hard to hear about Hobbes. It's so hard when they get older.
@quilteryoyo Glad your dad got VA
@Scott6255 @kgirlhart Agree on the weather this morning! Should be like this year round. LOL.
and @kgirlhart you are strong and hugs to you for keeping going after your dad passed.
So I did try the 10K again. Today was 58.34 so I will log this one! I think the weather helped for sure. 55F and lower humidity than the other day. Not quite a PR, but not bad for not really "training" and I did spin yesterday. Happy with it.
Don't remember what my goal for the month was...100 I think. Only made 78 - on to Oct!
The gamin colors are def interesting!
Great running everyone!

It was 45F and windy when I got out the door at 6:40 this morning and because it was mostly cloudy it was still pretty dark. I dressed in capris and a long sleeve tech shirt and was mostly warm except for my ears. Thanks to my marathon training I exceeded my goal for the month. On to October!
@shanaber – What a beautiful bird, especially against the backdrop of that blue sky. Thanks for sharing. Hope your glute problem goes away soon. That’s scary about the guy following you on the bike. Was Hobbes with you then?
Thanks for starting the October challenge @skippygirlsmom!
@katharmonic – I had to go get my phone and look at Garmin Connect. I had not noticed the color changes along the route. Interesting. I don’t care for its judgmental attitude either. This morning I was feeling pretty good and it told me my performance level was a -6! Whatever!
@polskagirl01 – I can’t believe you went in there. I think my pace would increase just running past it!
Congratulations @Mari33a on your virtual HM in memory of @PastorVincent and congratulations to EVERYONE ELSE for setting goals, reaching them or just doing the best that we could!

Hi all. Like @kgirlhart I did around a 10k to close out the month this morning. Happy to have scraped over 100 miles for the month but I suspect I’ll have to be less ambitious for next month. Weather will definitely be a factor from now on, but it was a lovely morning today and I was treated to another pretty sky...
See you over in October. Thanks @skippygirlsmom for setting up. X

@noblsheep hahahahahaha I guess it is interesting. Also stressful. Also the reason I run. Also wouldn't trade it for a single thing.
@Faebert I WANT TO RUN THERE!1 -
Closed out the month with almost 10 miles including 10k running for a total of 117 running + walking miles. My primary goal this month was to get back to running 10k long runs, so I’m satisfied. Hoping to keep increasing distance next month without my knee misbehaving.
We got out on the Greenline again and the weather was spectacular. Last time we dared to venture there it was raining and we passed one guy. Today there were dozens, despite us going at an off time - late morning on a weekday. It’s not really broad enough to pass 6 ft apart unless both parties are making an effort, and many of these people weren’t. It felt risky and I’m annoyed because I really want to keep doing it but would rather not die. Our positivity rate is still well over 10% with a couple hundred new cases each day in our county alone, cases are climbing, and the state governor has dropped all restrictions and is calling for our county to drop its mask mandate and restrictions. So, yeah, consider this a treat and back to the exile of our access road from now on. It’s a shame because I love running there.
In other news, three days ago I sliced off a quarter of my fingernail bed while trying to saw through a block of salmon which Kroger didn’t cut right. They sliced the flesh but didn’t cut through the skin, and none of my knives are good enough to easily cut salmon skin. I figured out how to handle it - kitchen shears - AFTER mutilating my finger wrestling with it. If these were ordinary times I would have gone to an urgent care clinic, but since the second largest source of cases locally (after ‘we have no idea where this came from,’ which accounts for more than half) is still the medical profession, I am not visiting a doctor unless the alternative is death. So, cleaned it, eventually got it to stop pouring blood all over, crammed a hydrocolloidal bandage on it, read a lot of stuff on the Internet and prayed for the best. Yesterday I cleaned it up and finally got a good look at it, I suspect my fingernail is going to be permanently wonky, but otherwise it seems not infected and healing as well as could be hoped.
Greenline photos!
The Greenline was originally a railroad, and you can still see old telegraph poles paralleling it. One of my favorite spots.
Got a live photo of this big hawk taking off as we walked by! This was the best frame I think. I’m clearly not good at tracking birds in flight!6
