Who can run on the 11th of November and would like to join me for this? Free virtual relay marathon! We should have at least one MFP team in honour of our departed marathoners...
ETA: I started to sign myself up for it but there are various options for teams so I'll wait and see who wants to join in. If anyone. It's set up for teams of 6: 2 x 10k legs, 3 x 5k legs and a final 7.whatever the last bit is leg. Let me know if you wanna join me!
Sure, I'll join your team!2 -

@Faebert my first thought: Your life is a marathon, not a sprint. You're in one segment right now but soon you'll be looking back at this, in a totally different segment. Be graceful with yourself. Running will be there.
@martaindale Sorry about your cancellation! I was so depressed when all my races got cancelled, but I found so much community in the virtual events. All of the ultras and marathons I have done this year have been through finding a space to be okay and thrive even when the world is on fire. Maybe it won't be virtual races for you, but I hope that you find that space.
@quilteryoyo I am so relieved you are still doing well!
@rheddmobile I read your post twice. Your words about form and push off are like gold to me. Tell me more! I had a ten minute something seconds pace last night and I was so happy!
Ran yesterday am and pm, then the coach sent over a million more post and pre-run exercises. I think I am getting faster. It's been only a few days, but I am much less sore than I would normally be and I feel better. Albeit sore in my core.
Today I didn't have to get out at 4am because the Aravaipa challenge for tonight is to run at night in a costume. I'm not doing a costume, I never win drawings anyway. But I am going to run at night after I've driven two hours to drop the kids with their dad, then lift. It will be a late night and I am not going to think about it anymore. It's kind of like "just don't look!" right before you jump off a cliff.
I hope you all have an amazing day!4 -
So I was struggling with an idea for Monday's podcast. Then I realized I have a racenon Saturday (small trail race usually capped at 100 runners) and can talk about the experience!
After the first few episodes I try to make the podcast about topics more runners can learn from rather than all about me but I figured this race is a good topic because everyone wants to know how it works and feels to race again.
@Camaramandy648 I think the JJ run has to be on the 16th not necessarily at night? Also, I'm just going to snap a photo and not actually run in my costume 🤣4 -
@RunsOnEspresso the best thing I can think of to do is cover myself in blood and roll around in some leaves and mud and see what happens. - For a costume. Not real blood. Maybe that's not such a bad idea.
It's too late now, I have to do it at night. Work all day, then kids to their dad, then run and lift.
This is fine, rotfl.2 -
@eleanorhawkins looks like it's free and I'm already signed up to run a holiday (Independence Day here) half marathon that day, so I'll gladly be part of a team and can commit to half the distance. I'd personally rather run in honor of our living MFP members, but won't complain if I'm out-voted3

My costume is super lame. I have a wonder woman tank, black shorts, knee socks with little capes, and wonder woman sunglasses with my murica brooks 🤣 If I saved them I have wonder woman sweat bands for my wrists.2 -
I went ahead and set up a team for the Ekiden virtual relay marathon.
Those interested in taking one of the slots, this is the place to go. You have to download the free Asics Runkeeper app, and it can be connected to Garmin etc. The password to join team MFP Monthly Challenge Gang is 0101.
If you don't get there in time to grab a slot feel free to go ahead and set up more teams!

OK, I'm registered to run Leg#5 (10K). There are 4 slots available (as of this writing).3 -
thanks @WandaVaughn @Teresa502 @martaindale @quilteryoyo @kgirlhart for the birthday wishes!
@maraindale sorry about your HM going virtual! I know its not the same at all.
An easy two miles today because I wasn't mentally there, but wanted to get out and get it done. I did the c25k though and even though my heart wasn't into it, I shaved over a minute off my two mile time...I think in an effort to just get it done!

That's cool and all, but just FYI... you can run anytime from November 11–22.3 -
Happy belated birthday @kristinajeang!
@eleanorhawkins et al -are you definitely doing the relay on the 11th? It says that it is between Nov 11-22. I'm not sure if I can do the 11th or not quite yet, but would definitely do it if there is more flexible time frame.

It's Friday and I'm finally done with my grant, it's submitted and I'm free! I left work as soon as I was done and the weather was a little rainy but I took Stella out for a long walk/hike (trying out some new Salomon hiking boots) and then I did a short run. I thought I might feel up for a longer one today, but between the light rain and being tired, I just wanted to get it done and crawl under some blankets with some tea and relax. Which is what I am doing now and it's lovely.
I'm so excited NOT to go in to work until Monday (and frankly, maybe I'll just work a little from home then too). I swear I'm not going to use my brain for anything productive for days. And I'm going to get some sleep and rest up before another big hike planned for Sunday. Which I haven't decided if I should risk trying the brand new hiking shoes or not - they felt good today for an hour and I wear Salomon trail shoes normally, but it's a gamble. I probably shouldn't. But I might.8 -

I'll probably still count my run from the 11th. My legs are usually trashed after a double digit trail run so I'll probably be doing lower mileage for the first few weeks after the half. Without knowing how I feel I didn't want to take a 10k spot & not be able to run it when someone else knows they can do it.2 -
@rheddmobile I just read strava removed flybys. You have to opt in for people to see you.0
-
@eleanorhawkins I signed up for the 10K.1
-
I made it to the International Space Station!

Popping in
Congrats and hugs to be distributed as needed
Obviously very behind. New job is keeping me busy and I get to work from home.
Sporadic running. A bit of peroneal tendinitis on my left side.
Settling in to my new normal
As it's getting darker sooner, anyone have a nox gear code they'd like to share?
Speed Demon and I did the trail dog classic and it was beautiful. Lavender decided speed demon was her friend.9 -
@kristinajeang I may or may not have finished at a faster pace than I meant to just because I wanted to be done with a run.
@katharmonic Yeah for getting the grant done and crawling under a blanket with some tea sounds wonderful. Enjoy your weekend.
2 -
CONGRATULATIONS @WandaVaughn ! You are awesome! Love the pictures.
@mbaker566 Sounds like you are doing good. You'll be settled into that new normal soon. Love the pictures. Glad you, Speed Demon, and Lavender had a great time.

I just took the last 5k spot
Both Parkrun AND tomorrow's trail race got COVID'ed. Recreational exercise now requires a mask, unless I'm in a forest or park. Church services are limited to one person per 7 square meters, so basically never mind, we're back online. If you need me, I'll be running in the forest. I like it there anywayI mean, it's not like the government and medical system had over 7 months to prepare for this exact moment that all of the experts said was coming. Oh, wait.8 -
A day away and you get 4 pages behind!!!
I have set up the second team for the asics run @eleanorhawkins called 'MFP Monthly Challenge Group' with the password 0102
Thank you for all your positive thoughts on the job front - you did a great job and I start on Monday!
@noblsheep how is the hip flexor working out?
@Scott6255 are the Ghost 12s settling in nicely?
Sorry I missed you birthday @kristinajeang and many happy returns!
I can't promise 69 miles @Tramboman in fact I can probably promise to not do 69 miles though I will join you on a birthday celebreation run in Feb, maybe 15 miles (6 + 9). I'll leave the mega-miles to @Camaramandy648
Congratulations on the promotion @jenniferlsk
Lots of change for people in the group and, for me, change is good, keeps things fresh. As we get closer the end of a year that will be in the history books for future generations and we are very keen to see it end I think we should see the terms and conditions page for 2021 before we sign up. Let's hope the Mayans weren't dyslexic and when they said the world ends in 2012 it was actually 2021 😊9 -

I hear ya! Nobody has officially said runners have to wear a mask here yet, but very few are daring to go without right now. Dare I say I'm actually getting used to it? I pull it up whenever I'm near anyone, and a few times now I've forgotten to pull it down again.
The first hour of today's long run was in the dark, so I didn't want to go off road or round back roads. Ended up running through the middle of town, and along part of the route of the HM I ran last November and would have been running next weekend if it had happened. Bittersweet memories. Then I decided to stay beside the main road rather than hitting the seafront promenade, as that gets busy with walkers and runners. I forgot the highway goes up and down. My legs hate me now. Will be interesting to see what state they're in tomorrow.
