In between it is leaping through the air at them like the vorpal bunny from Monty Python. Holy cow I had no idea!3

This morning was my last run before the virtual marathon on Sunday. It will be so weird not running on Saturday morning. What does the rest of the world do?
@quilteryoyo – I heard yesterday that Ballad in Kingsport was not doing any elective surgeries after Monday so that it could re-direct it’s resources to C-battle since our numbers have increased so much. I wondered if your surgery was considered “elective” and whether JC would follow Kingsport.
@Mari33a – I read about Ireland’s lockdown yesterday. Glad you made it to Scotland for a few days. I was there last year and loved it. Was supposed to travel to Ireland this year, but….Praying that the travel agent we used there is still in business when all this is over since they won’t issue a refund.
Congratulations on your climbing achievement @martaindale and for good results at the doctor’s appointment @WandaVaughn!

I love a lazy Saturday morning! I usually get up before the rest of my family anyway, so I have a cup or 2 of coffee in the peace and quiet. Saturday is not a day I meal prep for, so I use it to fill my cravings. So, I figure out what my soul desires for breakfast and take the time to cook it. Then watch whatever TV I want for a bit. It's amazing!2 -
Morning guys. Sorry to hear about extended lockdowns for people, and technology being both fun and annoying!!
I was up at 545 this morning, for a RUN! Hehe. Running twice a week is better than not running lol. Im using the workout function on my watch, so made a workout for warmup till lap button pressed, then 4 min run, 2 min recovery 5 times. It's really handy having it, so I don't have to keep checking the time as I go, and lose track of what interval I'm on etc etc. Once I figured it out, it was easy but took a bit to figure it out haha.
Calf has been good for the last few days, no twinges. That 2 steps forward, 1 step back continues to trend. It's definitely getting better.
I got some new shoes at the beginning of the week, so now have 2 pairs in rotation. We have a lot of sales this weekend, due to a holiday on Monday. Do I need another pair?? My oldest pair I got in March, so only wore for 2 months before my injury and was in rotation with 3 pairs, so haven't done a huge amount of milage, but also age, they are 7 months old...6 -
@avidkeo You can always use another pair of shoes! Especially if they are on sale. You'll be racking up the miles in no time!!2
-
@Teresa502 I had not heard that about Kingsport, but, since it is all Ballad, makes me wonder. No one has called to tell me it is postponed. I would think my surgery would NOT be considered elective - it's possible it could be postponed, but it's not like it isn't medically necessary. I know the C numbers in my county are really going up here the last week or so. Good luck with the virtual marathon on Sunday! You'll do great!
2 -
@Teresa502 Good luck on your race! I don't know what the rest of the world does on Saturdays, lol. Even on weekends that I have my kids, I will fit in a run on Saturday. Then the rest of the day is for them. 2020 has really not been great for that though; We used to have so much fun.... We do still watch movies and crack jokes and play with legos, etc. My daughter is an artistic genius as well, so she'll ask me what I think of her art or show me the latest. Still. I have not gone a Saturday without a run in a very, very long time! Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something to do! What if you made it a self-care day?! My mom used to do that. Do her nails, take a long bath, watch her favorite shows, eat her favorite food.
@Avidkeo I am eyeing a new pair of shoes too. Because I need em. I will need probably another pair of trail shoes before the 100 miler in December too, but at 4am I am running on roads, so I'm eyeing road shoes at the moment. I have some that are all right, but the Mizuno's need replaced badly.
@quilteryoyo I hope your surgery is not postponed. For your sake, i want it to be behind you as soon as possible.
@Mari33a So sorry about the lockdown. I don't know what our government is doing. Our cases are on the rise real bad too. I just don't know anymore...
*Sigh* IT IS ALMOST FRIDAY.5 -
Last Saturday during my race my right arch starting bothering me. It was fine Sunday (walk), Monday (run), then Tuesday as we were walking the Grand Canyon it started up again. Went on our big hike Wednesday. Sore on the way down, not as much hiking back up.
I am blaming my tight calf. I noticed it was getting tight/tired on my last long run (10 miles on the trail) and now plantar fasciitis is back. Gonna ice, stretch, and rest today and tomorrow then attempt my 11 miles on Saturday.7 -
WandaVaughn wrote: »Peeping in to say I have 73.9 October miles so far. 26.1 to go.
My doctor's appointment went well yesterday. My numbers are all good. He was very pleased to see my weight where it is -- he mentioned too many other patients have been huddled up and eating baked bread for the last 6 months. lol. Good news for someone about to turn 53. ( @katharmonic my b'day is 11/4, too!)
Oh, we're birthday twins! I'm going to be 52, so we're right there together! Glad your doctor's appointment went well and great job keeping on top of your health.
BTW, Nov 4 is also my personal trainer's birthday and most of the time I carefully avoid thinking about the fact that I am a full 20 years older than him, but sometimes I think, well good for me for not completely dying trying to do the things he wants me to do.
@Teresa502 I've been thinking about you and your virtual MCM. Best of luck this weekend! I have a friend here running hers this weekend too. Two years ago when I was running that race in person I was a wreck at this point thinking about actually running 26.2. Wishing you all the strength and endurance - have a great race! I think you'll enjoy those Saturdays free from super long runs.
@martaindale great job on testing out on lead climbing. I want to work towards that and outdoor climbing too.

4AM Rise and Grind, done.
This morning was harder. I knew it was the last one of the week, so wanted to just not do it. I could just run the time and distance tonight instead. But that would mean I didn't do a whole week of 4am's. For some reason, that consistency really matters to me. I guess because I believe it's the fundamental, rudimentary block that we build on. It's the foundation. Everything else comes after that. Just keep doing the same thing, over and over and over until it becomes habit. Second nature. Until it's working FOR you and UNDER you, as opposed to you constantly having to rise above it and work for it.
So anyway. last 4am of the week is done. My legs are heavy and tired and I am soooooo glad that tonight, after work, and after driving the kids to see their dad, I can SLEEP IN. Betcha $20 I still am up before 7am now.
Do you remember when I used to write on Saturday mornings about being a slow riser, hating mornings, refusing to do anything until I've been drinking coffee for at least two hours.... isn't it interesting how we change and grow so much over such a short span of time?
I am supposed to lift tonight. That, I may push to Sunday or tomorrow AFTER the long run. Last weekend I think the long run was harder because I had lifted on Friday night. I think if I can give my body over 24 hours to recoup, I should feel much better.
Very tired today. The evening last night started great, ran the 2nd time, then the teenager was at it again with her antics. She's on her period so she has to take five hour baths now. Seriously, I wanted to bust the door down. I might just pop the lock next time. I do have two bathrooms, but I needed in that one so I could get the dirty clothes out so I could do laundry for all of us. Then, when she FINALLY came out, I went in and found cups of maraschino cherries and stems EVERYWHERE. Called her back in to clean that up. Then, I smelled rancid *kitten*. Lift up the toilet lid and found the perpetrator. I'm not even going to describe the scene. It was real bad. So I called her back in there to discuss FLUSHING THE *kitten* TOILET BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TRASH AND THAT IS *kitten* DISGUSTING.
So that's how the evening went. I made her go to bed before nine.
She did not wake up on time this morning, so I left for work anyway. She will be sad to not see her friends, but I have given her a golden opportunity with less distraction so she will have no excuse for why her schoolwork isn't done. If she's not 100% caught up by Monday, she's off the phone plan. She knows this. She said, "You should really try to come up with better punishments." Okay, sweetie. We'll see if she's still singing that song on Monday.
You know those old pictures (or maybe they're not old?) - or maybe I saw this somewhere - "Mommy drinks because you cry."
Well.
"Mommy runs because you're a teenager."

@Camaramandy648 omgoodness I hear ya on the teenager thing. I don't think mine would be alive if I didn't run. Or her father, come to that.4
-
@Camaramandy648 I think an entire 24 hours or rest will do you good, so I vote for putting off the strength training. Sorry about the teenager drama. She is going to have to learn to quit telling her mama she needs to have better punishments! I have a feeling you have a lot up your sleeve. Good luck with everything this weekend.2

Made it a mile before the outside of my left foot started hurting. Decided it would be better to stop there, call it a day, rest/ice/stretch and I'll see where I'm at Monday. My new shoes come in today, so I'm hoping that helps a bit, since new shoes are way overdue and could be why I'm having some pain.

Thanks for all the well wishes for my VM on Sunday and ideas for Saturday no-run day @katharmonic, @Camaramandy648, @martaindale, and @quilteryoyo!
Love the picture of the triggerfish @HonuNui – so pretty!
@katharmonic – I hesitated to commit to run the MCM virtually because I knew that I would be missing out on all the in-person hoopla and having the Marines there to put the medal around my neck at the end of the 26.2 miles. However, friends and friends of friends are helping us to celebrate. We have three people who have volunteered to set up water stations for us. We’re running point-to-point so a retired Marine and his wife volunteered to shuttle us to the start point. He is so excited to be part of our day. He tried to fit into his uniform but that didn’t work so he ordered himself a new Marine polo shirt and hat to wear. He also ordered t-shirts for each of us plus a lapel pin of the flag to put on the ribbon of our medals. He talked a Marine Reserve into being at the finish line to put medals on us while he takes pictures. Last weekend he drove to the finish line and scouted the perfect spot to display USA flags and take the pictures. Since our medals haven’t arrived yet, another guy made us temporary ones. It’s really overwhelming all the support that wasn’t expected, wasn’t asked for, but greatly appreciated.10 -
@Camaramandy648 I hear you on the flushing. Ugh.
Today's run was 13.5km on mostly back roads. Saw some pretty swans that I thought had left for the season. In other news, next month's half marathon was canceled, entire country is in "red zone" and they of course also changed what red zone means for the umpteenth time. It's whatever. I'm SO thankful for the 3 races I got to do in September and so far I can still run outside, and in the forest without a mask.If I understand correctly between all of the conflicting news, medical and police are maybe overwhelmed, but more with testing and policing quarantine for mild/asymptomatic cases. Still a concern, obviously, but could be much worse.

Did my usual little jog behind Kroger while my husband shopped. Got in 5k plus a cool down walk, time well spent.
So, I’m starting to mistrust Strava on the road behind Kroger. As I mentioned last week I got a mile pr there while running what I thought was basically a tempo run. So yesterday I was doing a recovery run following the first 8 miler I’ve done in a while, so keeping it easy, what I would estimate was about 11 minute mile pace. And it gives me a half mile pr in under 4 minutes... think it was 3:57 or something. Now, I can run half a mile at 8 minute mile pace, my all time mile pr is 7:58, so this is theoretically within the realm of possibility for me - but no, I was not running that fast yesterday. No possible way. And then Strava also gave me a 400 m pr of 1:32 which is basically a 6 minute mile. Friends, I cannot even hit that pace while sprinting the last .1 of 3.1 - I have tried it often enough to know. I top out at about 7 minute mile pace and can only sustain that for a couple hundred meters, not 400. If I were running that fast I think I would notice. Also, Strava called the whole mile which that half and 400 m formed part of 10:30 something, which is much more in line with the 11 minute pace I would have guessed. I have no idea what the deal is with Strava and that stretch of road, but I gotta say I should try running a race back there sometime and see if I can beat Kipchoge! Because that is about equally possible as the pace it claimed I ran yesterday.
In other news my husband and I are running the Jolly Jack o’lantern 5k on Halloween and thought it would be fun to run it in costume, so we bought a couple of hopefully runable accessories. He has a Captain America long sleeved running shirt and a diminutive shield (which he claims won’t bother him while running). And I have a dragon headband and an iridescent scaly mini dress, which seems lightweight and comfortable to run in if I wear it over bicycle shorts.
Which brings us to my story about Target. I found the aforementioned dragon headband there and liked it. Ten bucks. Can’t be picked up, can’t be locally delivered, can only be shipped. And they will not ship it unless it is part of a $35 order. So I look around and decide hey, why not replace some of the plates we have, we had a couple get broken, they came from Target, and they are available individually. But no. Plates are ONLY available local or local delivery. They are not available to be shipped. So I look at some skincare and hygiene products I need on a regular basis. Half of them don’t qualify for one reason or another. Finally end up with $35 order consisting of 4 items, and free shipping. Yay!
And then they ship each of the four items individually and they arrive on 4 different days.
So.... if they had just let me buy my dragon headband, the company would have paid exactly the same amount to ship just that one item, since they shipped it by itself. I also noticed that since the headband, which was all I originally wanted, shipped first, Target would have allowed me to cancel the rest of the order after it had already shipped! As it was they made me so annoyed trying to puzzle together an order they would accept that I plan never to shop online there again, AND they spent four times as much in delivery costs as it would have been to just ship the one item.
Sorry for the long diatribe, the lack of logic just made my brain hurt a little.7 -
@teresa502 that is so great to have that support, it will make it special. The medals are fantastic. I will be thinking about you and cheering you on from afar!

Yesterday was a tough day mentally and emotionally, at work and personally, and this morning I just felt worn down. But the day turned out to be such a gorgeous perfect fall day - almost 80 degrees and sunny with still such great display o colors. I had to leave work and go for a run and then I took Stella for a long hike at some local falls. Being out there certainly helped clear the mind and heal the heart a little bit.

Thanks! We’re going to run it on the Creeper Trail. I can’t imagine running 26.2 miles on the streets of Kingsport! Actually I’m not as tired of those streets as I thought I would be since I don’t run there when I’m working from home which is every two weeks and during training we spread our long runs out between the Tri-Cities. I’m just hoping we won’t get run over by bicyclists on Sunday. The trail is very popular this time of year.4 -
@rheddmobile That's interesting about the issues with Strava and Target! Love that you and DH decided to dress up for the 5K. You'll have to post pictures.
@katharmonic Sorry you had a tough day, but glad you were able to get in a good run AND a gorgeous hike with Stella. Love the waterfalls and trail!
@Teresa502 I hope you can avoid the bicycles too. I have several friend who have posted pictures from biking there the last couple of weeks - and they don't normally bike. So, I'm sure there will be some out there who don't know the rules of the road. Be careful and have fun!

@HonuNui The trigger fish is awesome. I always love your snorkeling pictures.
@Teresa502 That's great that you are getting so much support for your virtual race. Good luck. Can't wait to hear all about it.
@katharmonic Sorry you had such a bad day. Those pictures are stunning though. I hope the run/hike helped.
@skippygirlsmom So far the new job is going well. I think I am going to like working there.4 -

@HonuNui Love the pictures!
@Teresa502 What awesome support! Good luck!
@katharmonic Beautiful!
Last night, I was scheduled to run 10 minutes warmup, 6x 400m at 8:31-8:51 with 200m recovery, and 10 minutes cool down. I lost track of the intervals and almost started running a 7th one but glanced at my watched and noticed it was time for cool down. 3.9 miles total.
This morning I have an easy run, and then I will finish getting the house ready for a pumpkin carving party! There is a group of us (4 couples) that have gotten together for years, alternating houses. I’m just excited to eat the pumpkin dip i made last night. Licking the spoon after making it made me want half of the bowl!

@marisap2010 Enjoy your pumpkin carving party. You're doing great with the program. I love them because I tend to lose track of how many times I have done intervals too, but I'm usually ready to quit early, not do extra ones.0
