WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2020

Allie: Sending healing energy and angels your way. Think of you daily.
Lisa: Cowboy cookies sounds like the ticket to helping whittle down the overstock of oatmeal I have and put a few pounds on my skinny DH. Thanks for that idea.
Michelle: It has been a year and a half since I fractured my foot and it still gets easily aggravated whenever I do weight bearing exercise. I only wear stiff shoes and/or stiff insoles. It's in such a vulnerable spot, on the outside middle part of my foot (actually part of pinky toe) that the surrounding tissue has been slow to bridge to the broken bone fragments.
Katie: Hand surgery is the pits. Hope your recovery is swift and thorough.
Dementia continues to dominate my life.DH was finally agreeable to take a shower and wash his hair today. When it came time to step into the tub, he froze. This has never happened before and took me by surprise because he continues to have very good balance and mobility, and this bath set up has sturdy bars set up for extra support. It is possible he is losing depth perception. So, I tried to coax him into the walk in shower in guest bathroom, but by then we were both a bit frustrated. He changed clothes and let me shave him. Crossing 🤞🤞🤞 this was a fluke and tomorrow he will be in a different frame of mind.
I met with elder care attorney this week and with help of an agency I am applying for Medicaid. We are borderline poor enough to qualify as is, but will need to do a spend down to reach the magic numbers required to get home health care benefits. This would be in addition to what we currently receive from the VA. It is going to take a TEAM to see him through this horrible disease with comfort and dignity.
Holidaze? I got the Nativity scene set up, lights on the deck and this silly card sent out to 20 lucky (?) recipients. I think the expression on our faces really tells the story of this year. 🤣🤣🤣
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Machka, congratulations
Allie, glad to hear that you're improving enough to have a plan for going home
ouch, I tripped over something on my walk and fell and bumped my head so I have a bit of a goose egg and a scratch on my knee.
The landscaper was supposed to come today to plant the coral bark and Japanese maples but it was so wet all day that he put it off.
Tracey, how great that you had a chance to talk to your mom.

It seems that our governor just made a restriction that you can’t be out between 10 pm and 5am. This affects Food Lion a little bit since they are open until 11, but one hour isn’t much. Wonder what’ll happen to Jess’ flight into Charlotte? It’s due to be in around 11. You know something, just to be ornery what I should do is go to the food kitchen and help with the candy making. They’re supposed to be there until 10. Well, by the time I’d be getting home, it would be after 10.

Who is feeling tired so may lay down for a bit
If they're smart, they'll adjust the hours of operation. That's what the shops here have done.
After all, it's important that this situation gets under control and that we all do our parts.

I’ve had such an emotional day. Tomorrow is the 8th anniversary of my Dad’s death so I’m always a little teary at this time of year anyway.
Today I got the call from Mom and that just tugged at my heartstrings, I’m so happy and grateful that she is in NB where Covid is being well managed, but I miss her.
It was another tough day at work with all the Covid stuff. In the course of all of this one of my coworkers has been gathering radioes for residents that don’t have anything. In figuring out which residents needed a radio I found out one of our residents could use a new tv so I posted on FB asking if any of my local friends had an old tv gathering dust. I just received a private message from an old boss, he is going to buy a tv tomorrow and he’ll meet me so I can give it to the resident that needs it.
My heart is full.

I am taking a little break while I eat my lunch. Today has been full so far.
On the weekend my Mom’s nursing home posted a picture of her and other residents making Christmas cards. I commented on the post stating I hoped to get one from Mom. I never expected one, as I know that the cost to the nursing home could be prohibitive with the stamps.
This morning I received a message from the home asking for my address, I immediately broke down crying.
My Mom used to give cards for everything and to everyone and I haven’t received a card from her since 2014.
I messaged the home back to let them know how grateful I was and they immediately took the iPad to Mom’s room and let me have a little visit with her. Today she remembered her Great Grandson and was able to fill me in on some accurate news. Today was a great day!

That is so great that not only did you get a great response from your post, that you will actually get one but to also talk to her(and her remembering and having a good conversation)- sounds perfect.

Trying to catch up reading all the posts- Enjoy reading every one of them- Have the lights on the tree, my cinnamon tea and relaxing and checking in with all of you.
This weekend is our big candy and sweets making weekend for mom and I. I have taken an extra day off(well, changed my day off with my daycare kid) so will be going up Friday morning and not come home until right before she comes in on Monday morning.
I have most of my Christmas shopping done- husband informed me that he picked out and ordered what I am giving him for Christmas. I asked him to send me the link, he asked why, he already ordered and paid for it- I told him it would be nice if I knew what I was giving him.
I am going to stay up a little late and work on some Christmas masks that will go in a few gifts- have some really cute fabric.
I heard that my former mother in law got her package and the staff at the home where she is at said the tree looked beautiful.
Dentist yesterday for a crown and then pick up new glasses Thursday- two things I have put off for way too long.
Spent today getting fruit put in the dehydrator- mango, pineapple and candied ginger are in it now. Need to get these done and another batch of catnip done then finish up the pineapple and mango(mango were not quite ripe to do more today- got a box full- on sale 3 for $1 for nice size ones. The dried fruit will go in the boxes/trays with the fudge/toffee/caramel corn/?? for gifts- Need to make up a big tray for the dentist office. I mentioned making stuff and they all want it.
Still walking an hour with a friend at least 3-4 nights a week, still tracking my food and always under (even when I try to eat the full amount- just can't seem to do it, been on this 1000 cal a day for too long I guess) and I am GAINING !! I am getting so discouraged- It was one thing to be doing these things and not loosing like I did for like 6 months but to gain the past few months is hard to handle. Up 6lbs. I am now back up to 20 lbs to loose to meet my goal.

Tracey- I spent over an hour chatting with an old classmate of mine- he lives up there in Edmonton too. Haven't seen him since high school- found out last night that he actually liked me back then but never said anything. I had a little crush on him but never said anything either. I did invite him to go with our youth group at church for a youth rally and he did go but didn't sit by me or talk to me or anything. He said he loves it up there. He moved up right after high school. I think that is where he was born but not sure.

Tracey how wonderful that you were able to have some lucid time with your mom! And isn't it wonderful how folks will step up (going out and buying tv's for strangers, for example) in trying times!
Michele, I agree with Machka, stores etc will just have to adjust their schedules. That was one of the first things that stores in my area did was change their hours to allow for more cleaning time. Not to mention restocking time!
Rebecca, Athena and her unicorn hat, so cute!
Allie, so glad you are going home soon! Do take care.....
And the memory fails..... Fairly uneventful day for me today. Did get the Christmas decorating finished, happy about that. Also made some banana muffins, had 6 bananas on the counter and they were not happy, now I have 12 regular size muffins for hubby and 24 mini muffins that I intend to take over for my grandkids tomorrow.
Our PHO (provincial health officer) has declared no large gatherings for Christmas so I will be talking to our son and daughter in law to see if they still want to go ahead and do dinner on Christmas day. The orders extend til Jan 8. We are far from a large gathering, it would only be 4 adults and 2 small children and none of us have been out and about too much. And when we are, we are masked and careful, but we want to stay safe. Although, there is more chance of us having time off at the same time if we actually have dinner at Christmas, but, again, we do want to stay safe. It will be discussed!
That's it for me, I still have laundry to fold and as it's on my bed, it will have to be done before I can get into bed and it's getting close to that time.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating (YAY Machka!) and welcome to the newbies!

Karen in VA tears sprang to my eyes at your Josephina Ballerina update. Thank you!

Tina wish a case could be made that your situation qualifies as emergency/essential and not “elective”. Is there no one who can advocate for you?
Lisa you can do anything… including slow and steady baby steps. Honest you can!
Fae hoping all went well at your appointment.
Allie so relieved to see your update, was getting worried. Hope Sean and Jean take good care of you, they surely ought to!
Lanette, I’ve heard of lots of cracked teeth too lately
Machka con VERY gratulations.
Debbie how frustrating! Hope there’s something you can do to shake your body up. Have a feast day of twice as many calories as usual? Followed by a fast day? Have you checked your measurements, maybe you’re getting leaner?
Evelyn your laundry-on-the-bed strategy is just what I need. My laundry is still in the dryer and I’m headed to bed. Will fold in the morning

Thank you all for your congratulations!
I can hardly believe I'm officially finished. I keep feeling like I need to rush home and do homework, and I keep going to the uni site to see if there are messages or something about more work I need to do. Apparently that will gradually fade away.
Three of us at work who have recently finished degrees of various sorts chatted about it a bit and got onto "the dreams" ... we (three - and probably others) have all had them ... the ones where we turn up for an exam and haven't studied at all, or we suddenly find out about a major assignment the day before it is due, or whatever. The panic and frustration in those dreams!
Meanwhile ... nature abhors a vacuum, or an empty schedule, and I'm surprisingly busy. But my stars are coming along.

Machka - I still have dreams about my 'A Levels' - the exams you take at the end of secondary school. And that was 56 years ago!
Enjoy your graduation day. It will be different, but probably even more enjoyable. :flowerforyou:
Dentist again today, just a brief clean, they couldn’t do a clean and an exam together because of the different cleaning regimes between patients. A nuisance, but not hugely annoying.
Then I've got a Zoom with my girlfriends.
Off to wash my hair.

Allie: Thank you for posting. I am delighted that you are feeling better.
Lanette: I couldn’t find Xlear, either. :grumble:
Machka: Congratulations on your Master of Information Technology & Systems degree!!!!!
(((Rori))): Hugs to all three of you & Mars. I think of you often.
Barbie: So sorry about your trip & fall. I hope your goose egg and knee heal quickly. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I recently had a dentist office visit & they cleaned my teeth. Next visit is coming up in a week or so to fix a damaged tooth. Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes well.
Our Governor has created a draft Covid-19 Vaccination Plan for Oregon. Phase 1-A People serving in healthcare settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials & are unable to work from home. Phase 1-B: Other essential workers, & people at higher risk of severe COVID 19 illness, including people 65 years of age and older. The message goes on from there and I don’t want to write it all. I gather DH & I fall into the 1-B group. We are 65+ & DH has a number of autoimmune problems. We will line up for our immunizations as soon as the opportunity arises.

I was so glad to see this! I have been retired from teaching for 12 years and I cannot tell you how many times I have dreamed I was back in the classroom.

Your 30 yrs old tree is lovely. Ours is a tall 6.5' tree that we got for -$30 one year after Christmas at an antique shop. We leave the lights on and cover it at the end of the season with garbage bags in the basement. It has served us well and we love the lights.

Congrats on your official graduation certificate. I got married when I had 2 quarters left to finish my degree and didn't go back until 3 yrs later to do so. Left my office job on a Friday to go back to school on Monday and returned to that office job on Monday after finishing my courses on a Friday. Never went to a graduation ceremony...just got my degree in the mail.

So glad to hear that your are getting a go-home date and hope you will not need further surgery. Hoping that Jean and Sean will take good care of you as your recover. I know you must miss your puppy terribly and hope you will be reunited soon.

Hoping no one will feel this is too much about religion! What church is your son associated with if I may ask? My daughter-in-law's whole family have been members of the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for many years and her mom takes mission trips to Tanzania. My husband and I have not been member of a church for quite a long time but still believe.
I have ordered so many gifts online and am just crossing my fingers and hoping they all get delivered.

good morning ladies, new to here. I live in Maine, at just about the end of the earth. Working on being healthier and fit, need to lose about 60# for a knee replacement. Finally got the work out room down cellar set up so my hubby and I can work out together. Because of the knee, i have a recumbent bike and he will use the treadmill. I feel like I am stuck at the same weight. I have been tracking my foods regularly (and carefully and honestly!!) but not much is happening. I have switched to tea from coffee. I love both, but coffee gives me the jitters and is not good for me on work days. Any other tips you have for breaking a plateau? bloodwork tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. Hoping for good results.6

How exciting for her to participate in trips to other countries! I'm familiar with Johnson Ferry. They have many outreach programs that benefit, not just the congregants, but the community in general.
Jordan currently plays primarily at Mountain West Church in Stone Mountain. Something that I didn't understand about professional praise musicians, is that they are not always members of the churches where they play. They may also play for a number of different churches at different times or even additional bands. Before COVID, Jordan had 2 other places that he occasionally played. One was in Acworth, the other was for a Wednesday night youth service at a church in Marietta. In the past, he also made money by producing/recording music for singer/songwriters. He's gotten away from that aspect of the business a little, at least for now. In fact, come January, (after all the extra Christmas music, rehearsals/performances) he gets to consider new, additional ways to pay the bills. If you happened to check out a current Mountain West Church Video, Jordan will be the rather thin electric guitarist. (My inspiration to continue eating healthy and stay active!)

Hi Azalea! I'm stuck too, despite my CICO being weighted on the CO. I've cut down a bit on the CI, but nothing is happening. I think the body gets used to a certain balance. I did lose 57 lbs over 6 years ago, but a few have crept back on. That was before covid, and since then has stayed the same. So I can’t blame the virus. It's just a puzzle.
Anyway, WELCOME!
Dentist all masked up like a covid ward with a negative pressure mask.

Good Morning ladies of advancing years
I think I am caught up, but with my vision not tracking right, it is easy to miss things.
The doctor's appointment was to check the fast-growing mold on my back aggravated by my favorite bra band. I knew it was a keratosis and noncancerous, but the itch makes me twitch and twist and my behavior was becoming more bizarre than normal. Being one step away from the Cuckoo's nest as it is, I wanted to eliminate the worry of having to beg the almighty for a pair of wings to fly over that establishment. My doctor, an amazing lady that has never been wrong in the over 20 years I have sought her advice, said it would be a mistake to remove it and many others I have because they would come back larger and soon I would look like a reptile from the back.
I briefly considered having them removed thinking maybe Heather would adopt me as her sister in law. I could become her reptile DH's sister. My being a reverse blooded reptile and able to tolerate the cold and no tolerance for high house heat, I would however have to hang with Heather and we could return to our minimalist teen ways of dressing or lack thereof.
So, I will leave the scaly growths and whatever happens naturally, happens and I will be happy as a freckled-faced school girl with a new spotted puppy dog about it.
But wait, that is not the end of the story of my gracing the medical center. I also requested she address why my freaking toes are still red, howbeit pale, after a year of BID (2 times daily) applying super duper antifungal creme. She said sometimes especially with persons with compromised immune systems, one such as myself, these fungal infections are hard to kill. She prescribed an antifungal that you put on like nail polish as it is the strongest solution that doesn't require frequent blood tests to monitor liver and kidney function.
Sounded good to me because I never want to take a medication that can cause me problems that I currently don't suffer. Just like years ago, I was prescribed a pill for my nerves, and after reading about how side effects were things like thoughts of suicide and then the final most common one was ANAL SEEP, I told the pharmacist hell no, I am not wearing diapers, adult or not. I had rather be a nervous ninny and a bizarre old broad. Not pooping in my knickers (expanding my vocabulary for my UK friends) intentionally, is not going to happen, Ralph. Put that smit back on the shelf.
Off for a haircut later today. I really want to grow it out, but I can't stand the fact it loses its natural curl and lays flat and any attempt at giving it body looks like I have just received shock treatments and auditioning for a part in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" only 34 years too late. Back in my days as a social worker and investigator, I visited that establishment in Salem and never liked the feeling or sound of those huge steel gates slamming behind my posterior.
Cold morning as usual here and yes, I once again did my 3 AM leggings and sports bra patio Fae She until my feet got very cold. The rest of my workout was completed indoors. I am determined to complete 2020 without missing one day of my early morning patio discipline.
Fae hanging on to her badly frayed sanity rope
