Still no run for me. My hip is improving, but still not 100%. I am trying to be patient and let it get better. I've been doing some gentle yoga and it helps, at least it helps my frame of mind.11

Morning update on the family situation below. Not at all running related.Dad's oxygen level was low this morning and he felt lousy. He hasn't been sleeping much either. I called and talked to the VA nurse triage line, just to see if I should bring him to the VA or call 911. Turns out neither was warranted. I had been told by a nurse friend that if his oxygen got below 90 to call 911 so they could start treatment right away. The VA nurse, whom I feel may be a little more versed in CoVID, at least the VA protocol, said that if it is consistently 85 or below for 2 hours (never in that time gets above 85) to call back and they would set him up with an appointment with his doctor (not the one that gave this to us). She said major issues don't start until it is consistently 81 or below for like 5 hours.
I had called mom and dad on my cell phone to help get information for the triage, while talking to the nurse on my landline. That was interesting - trying to get mom to understand what I was doing and get straight answers. Anyway, while we were talking, they checked his oxygen level again and it was 91%. So, I think he is going to be ok. He isn't convinced though. When he thought he was going to the hospital, he told mom "I probably won't be back." Made mom cry. Makes me cry too. I wish I could transfer a positive attitude to him, but I can't. Just praying that he is okay. This is day 5. Half way to being all better, I hope.
Mom and I are doing good today.13 -

@quilteryoyo that’s good information you received from the VA nurse. It’s gotta be especially scary for our elderly when they get sick. So my boss’ dad (in his 80s) with all kinds of heart issues, like has 50% function of his heart got COVID, he came home last week and is doing quite well. We have a local WWII vet, just turned 104 this weekend who tested positive was in the hospital and recovered to celebrate 104. Tell him it’s definitely survivable in our elderly or more mature family members.
@kgirlhart glad the hip is feeling better

@quilteryoyo my heart goes out to you all, I can relate so much to how you're feeling. The information you were given sounds sound though.
My dad started radiotherapy yesterday. He's now convinced, having survived brain surgery (though he claims they cut half his brain out and he's stupid now), that they're going to fry him. He's upset because they told him he will probably never be allowed to drive again, certainly not for a few years, and he's fretting about getting rid of his car because he doesn't want it to just sit in the driveway.
Man, this year sucks.
You'll all be pleased to hear that the run-up to Christmas has officially started now... I just had my annual meltdown over an attempt to make veggie sausage rolls to stick in the freezer. EVERY YEAR the same thing happens, EVERY YEAR I say never again. This year I'm writing a note on the recipe to my future self: "Don't bother!"
Facebook reminded me it's 2 years today since I ran my first half. I was amused to see, when I looked on there after my run, that I was wearing the same leggings and socks I ran in this morning. Yet my husband still claims I spend too much on running stuff.10 -

Total: 5/30 miles for December
Haven't updated it in a few days, but I've been going sort of steady. A little behind, but taking it easy and listening to my body. I am hopeful that I can work more runs in, especially over the weekend, and also work my way back up to the 3-4mi I was running in October.8 -
@quilteryoyo I'm so sorry about your Dad's outlook and hope he'll accept some encouragement that the numbers are good and lots of people his age have recovered quite well.
Today I did speedwork (random intervals) on the treadmill, got it to total 5k and stopped. I usually run outside, and the same paces feel SO much harder on the treadmill. Maybe it's the incline. But I'm not changing it, because raising it up eliminated my treadmill knee pain.
December Goal - 100 Miles

Morning all. No exercise for me today. I'm just too damned tired. Been working shift this week and it takes it out of me. So I'm going to make chocolate truffles as Christmas gifts, and hopefully nap this afternoon, before work at 311

@quilteryoyo I'm glad your dad's oxygen levels went up a little bit and he didn't need to go in. I hope he will feel encouraged and that will help his recovery too.
@eleanorhawkins sorry to hear about your dad's worries as well. Hope his treatment goes well and he makes peace with the car situation. Sorry about the annual meltdown, but now it's over, right? Hopefully you will prevent your future self from the same thing next year
Glad your hip is doing better @kgirlhart.
@Avidkeo Hope you got your nap and will feel a little less run down. Chocolate truffles should help. I know they would help me

The hamstring pain felt *maybe* a little better this morning so I was kind of encouraged but sitting all day did not help matters. I did a short run after giving my last final and it was not good. Very sore and stiff getting started. I managed 20 minutes and it maybe loosened a little but the ache was there the whole time.
I went for the massage I scheduled yesterday and told the guy about where the pain/tightness was and he got right to work. It was pretty intense, but I like a good deep tissue massage. I think it made a big difference but we'll see how it feels tomorrow. He kind of annoyed me at the end, by telling me I should consider giving up running and just try walking fast instead. I don't think he had any real basis for that piece of unsolicited advice so I'm just ignoring it.7 -
I am too far behind to comment on everyone's posts but I have read everything and given 'like' or 'hugs' where appropriate.
@quilteryoyo - you know I have you and your parents in my thoughts. I hope your dad is feeling better this evening and is not so worried.
@mbaker566 - if you don't have the colloidal bandages that @rheddmobile mentioned I have covered blisters with a bandaid and then put moleskin all the way over it so that way the moleskin sticks to your skin away from the blister but doesn't stick to the blister and provides a nice cushion.
@Avidkeo - I will be messaging you with my address for the Christmas truffles too!
@katharmonic - I know exactly how you feel with the hamstring. I am not sure how a deep tissue massage would feel exactly on that but I hope it helps! Also I am so surprised he would tell you to consider giving up running. Most of the therapists I have had are either runners themselves or love having runners as clients because they keep coming back!
I don't remember who mentioned mileage on their running shoes and not getting more than about 200 miles on a pair.My experience has been that the softer more cushioned the shoe the faster they will wear out because the cushioning gets compressed. If you only wear one pair of shoes and run every day that pair never gets to 'recover'. If you have more than one pair of running shoes and alternate between them it gives each pair a chance to decompress a bit and they can last longer. I wear fairly minimal neutral shoes and always have at least 2 pairs in rotation. For me each pair generally gets over 500 miles. I have 3 pairs in rotation now with two over 400 miles and one of those will be easily over 500 this month.
I got a pretty uneventful run in today. My hamstring was bothering me after agility on Monday and I didn't sleep well because it was aching and I didn't want to get up to take an aleve. So yesterday I pretty much did nothing. I couldn't even get myself to do some yoga and definitely no strength training ☹️ I was a bit frustrated with myself for that but it seems it was ok. My hamstring was better today and didn't complain much at all when I ran. I did have an interesting crack in my knee (like when you bend your knee getting up and it will make a little sound...) while I was running. I did have my brace on and haven't had much knee pain since I started wearing it. This hurt right at the bottom of my kneecap and continued to hurt when I was walking and after I got home. I finally took some Aleve but I hope this isn't the start of yet another injury...

Oh... forgot to mention my DH got me two running related gifts for my birthday that I love! I did give him some hints and may have actually provided an Amazon link 😂 but he followed through and got me a personal massager. Think Thera-gun only cheaper. It works great and feels so good. Although it may not be quite as strong as the Thera-gun, it is perfect for my needs so far anyway. I used it on my calves and thighs before and after my run and it is awesome. The other gift was the Apple Powerbeats Pro. I wasn't sure I would like them as I have so many issues getting earbuds to fit my small ears. My dd has been talking them and the AirPods up and these are perfect. They are more secure than the AirPods as they have a hook that goes over your ears and once I put the smaller tips on and figured out how to place them they are perfect. I love how they interface to my phone too. If I get a text while running Siri reads it to me and allows me to reply without ever breaking my stride or needing to touch anything or pull my phone out and I can use 'hey Siri' commands to switch music or go to an audio book'.13

Was really hungry this morning during the run. Which was probably why I was so slow. It was cold and windy, so my nose was running quite a bit faster than I was. But I got it done, and felt better afterward than before, thus all good.
@quilteryoyo That sounds tough. Hang in there, we're all here for you.
@eleanorhawkins Sorry to hear about the meltdown. Maybe we could remind you to not do it next year.7 -
@katharmonic "just walk fast" seriously? Well I hope the massage helped, even if the advice was bad.
@eleanorhawkins I'm sorry about your Dad and all he and the family are going through. The comments about not coming back sound like things my grandfather has said (and so far he's been wrong every time). I think it's his way of dealing with the possibilities/fears, but the comments seem to affect the rest of the family more because they're at a different place as far as dealing with it. Very hard stuff.
I'm basically on here stalling because I should go ride my bike but it's cold out there. But I'm out of stuff to say, so I guess I'd better go already7 -
Sending positive vibes to you all especially @quilteryoyo and @eleanorhawkins
Well so much for work relaxing. My number 2, and the only person with the knowledge I need leaves on Jan 7th. I am lucky to have a job in these difficult times and I will use this to create learning and progression opportunities for the team in general and hope they can step up. Should be fun!
Apologies to the European Pastor Vincent tribute team as I have not managed to get to a post office yet to send the medals, defo for the weekend.
The powerbeats pro sound good @shanaber as I currently have bose sunglasses that look silly in winter or full on noise cancelling headphones that I don't like to wear when running. My only issue is that I have an apple watch and the battery is pathetic so do I chuck them all in and go for a Samsung/Garmin mix?
How was the ride @polskagirl01 ?5 -

Enjoyed todays run 😁6 -
I have worked late every day this week, so I haven’t done any sort of exercise, except some brief ab work one morning. I have been falling asleep on the sofa around 9pm every night, so I’ve been trying to get through the same tv show all week since I only get in about 15 minutes before zonking out. Maybe tonight I’ll find out who won the episode of Christmas Cookie Challenge. 🤣
Positive thoughts to @quilteryoyo and @eleanorhawkins.5 -
Continuing the positive thoughts for @quilteryoyo and @eleanorhawkins, and all others who are hurting and suffering right now.
Just a boring 5 miles on the treadmill this morning.
6 -
It's finally raining here. Now I need to remember what to wear for a run in the rain 🤣🤣🤣 It's been over a year since I've had rain during a run. We either get no rain or it coin the middle of the night while I'm sleeping & cannot enjoy it.5
-
I love you all, thank you for all the kind thoughts, words, support, etc. This really is an amazing group.
@quilteryoyo how are you all doing today?
I'm not sure I won't jinx it by saying this, but I went to see the evil physio this morning for my usual 6 weekly massage/torture, and she commented that I must be running less because my muscles were nowhere near as tight as they used to be. Umm nope, I've been running more than I used to because I'm basically just trying to keep myself HM ready and run a HM distance every month (well ok I've done 2 months in a row so far).
I don't know if it's because I have been faithfully doing a long deep stretch routine the day before and the evening after long runs, and bathing in Epsom salts the evening after long runs (note to self, buy more of that stuff!) or if my legs are just finally starting to accept the sh1t I demand of them hehehe. Whatever, I'll take it.
11 -
i've been playing flare, cold, or covid. i won't get into details but found out yesterday it was flare.
so i made myself go out. since i was feeling rotten took the old girl out with me and Speed Demon. We did 2 slow miles. it was all the effort i had. slow.
even when i did got for runs, i managed 11 min on the flats. but now that i've started running regularly, i've dropped down to 12:30. it's frustrating. i worked really hard to get down to comfortable 11.
also new hair. that will totally bleed and make me look like i was an extra in Carrie when i sweat...it takes a few weeks for it to stop14 -

Sorry you are feeling worn down @Tramboman . Hope you manage to get some energy back.
Hugs to you and your dad @eleanorhawkins ! It's so hard to deal with serious situations from afar. Glad your legs are doing better! Sounds like you are doing fantastic.
@mbaker566 Glad it was a flare and not CoVID, but sorry about the flare up. Hope you are feeling better soon.
@RunsOnEspresso Hope you had a good run in the rain.
@marisap2010 I hope you make it through the Cookie Challenge tonight. I have been watching those. They are amazing and inspiring me to want to learn how to be a cookie decorator. I'm not sure I have the required artistic ability.
@TheMrWobbly Hope work "works out." It's hard when people you count on leave. Sounds like you have a great attitude about it all.
Yeah for the running related gifts @shanaber ! The rest day was probably good for your hamstring. Hope the knee isn't going to give you problems. Mine click a lot. Mostly when I'm walking first thing in the morning or going up stairs. If it's quiet, you can really hear it. It's almost comical.
@katharmonic Hope the hamstring is better.
