How much pie (or similar poor choice) have you eaten in the last 3 months?
The pie I've eaten in the last three months could best be measured in metric tons.
Things done in moderation (not that I do things in moderation) need not necessarily be poor choices.
Bruh, what's your favorite? I found the cheap walmart apple to be exceptional the next morning with hot tea/coffee
They're ALL my favorite. Never met a pie I didn't like. Have devoured a few pumpkin pies most recently.
Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream goes down pretty well, too. It has crust and fruit so I consider it to be part of the pie family.
You don't eat mincemeat, do you? I'm thinking it must be better than the weird stuff I had as a kid. The cobblers are too sweet for me. I like it when it's more of a fruit pie than a sugar pie. Last year we has a triple beary oops, berry cobbler, beary is my cat, the cobbler was too sweet but sounded so good. We have pumpkin and cool whip that I am trying not to think about.
If it has the word "pie" in its name. I'm good with it.3 -

I ran 2.5 miles today! My hip felt pretty good. My legs felt kind of heavy after over a week with no running, and I think I was being hyper aware of how I was feeling. But all in all the run was good. When I got home I did a 15 minute yoga stretch and then iced the hip. Even though I don't really think I needed the ice. I also K-taped my hip before I ran, and now I feel great. I am so glad I got out there. The weather was perfect running weather for me too so it made me really happy to be out there. And I hit 1300 miles for the year. I did revise my December goal to 40 miles. I don't want to make things worse by stressing to reach an arbitrary goal I had set. I am going to try to be patient and ease back in and concentrate more on getting to run and not worry about distance or speed.
It is good to hear from you @swenson19d! I have been wondering about how you were lately. I have only eaten a little pie, but I ate lots of pumpkin bars over Thanksgiving.
@skippygirlsmom It's amazing what the right owner can do with a "bad" dog.

See in NZ a Pie generally is a meat pie. Steak pie, mince pie, and all sorts of savory fillings. A favourite (not mine) is a butter chicken pie. And we have them small enough for one person. @ContraryMaryMary remember to blow on the pie!
We do have apple pie, but it's not a "traditional" common dish. Think Sarah Lea type of thing.
Truffles:
The white marbled ones are the baileys, the cocoa covered are the orange ones and the plain are well plain. I should cover with chocolate to make them more special but they are pretty indulgent without it.
I've managed to avoid eating any till now, but the smell when I took the pic was amazing. My favourite was the baileys... Nom Nom Nom.7 -

Re: pie. A friend has been experimenting with baking for the past few months, and I've been one of her main guinea pigs/trash cans during the process. Been pied a handful of times. There was this one purple taro pie that was awesome. (For anyone who doesn't know what taro is, it's kind of like sweet potato, only a bit mushier, and purple.) Enormous carb bomb. Suddenly realized I haven't had apple pie yet this year. Hmmm. Will have to fix that.5 -

Monthly question #1 Pie: Cherry and Pumpkin over T-giving (we just finished them both). And I have a jar of homemade green tomato mincemeat which will be our Christmas pie. (yes, green tomato mincemeat.....it's great!)

Pie - I made 2 pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving but since there are only 3 of us I froze one. Dh wanted more after the 1st was finished so I took the 2nd out of the freezer. Now it is mostly me eating it, little slices at a time. I am planning to make pecan pie for Christmas dinner. Maybe a Jack Daniels chocolate chip pecan pie...
I love mincemeat pie but I am the only one and refuse to make an entire pie that only I will eat. I will however make some mincemeat tarts or some such that I can eat one at a time (pop tarts maybe?). I have a jar of good British mincemeat that I have been hoarding trying to decide what to make with it.
I ran yesterday and it was better than expected. I ran today and it was less than expected. My hamstring is achy and I am trying not to aggravate it. I probably need to just stop trying but I thought it was getting better. I am going to call on Monday and see about a referral either to an ortho doc or straight to PT.

I am glad I chose to run yesterday instead of today. It is gross and cold and foggy out today. Plus it is windy and there are wind advisories for later today. So I will rest and probably just do some yoga. I usually do some yoga every day. Sometimes it is more of a workout and sometimes more for relaxing. My hip feels ok. I usually only run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. So I will probably take tomorrow as a rest day too and then see what Tuesday is like. I am thinking since I am decreasing my mileage I will try to add back some walking on my rest days. I had cut that back some after my mileage started increasing because my weight was dropping more than I wanted it to, but I don't want to cut my eating back too much and walking makes me feel good too. Yoga us great, but not much of a calorie burner.
I have never heard of purple taro @noblsheep but I love sweet potato pie.
@Shanaber Sorry the hamstring is still bothering you. Hoping it is better soon.

@quilteryoyo I thought of you yesterday. I was coming out of the grocery store and saw a couple going in. A couple of weeks ago they both had Covid and she was hospitalized with breathing problems. They both looked good. I hope your dad is doing better today and you and your mom as well.

@noblsheep I have some purple taro snacks from Japan that I got from Amazon just to try it out. It’s definitely got its own flavor.

All this pie talk is making me a little sad, since my favorite pie is the one thing I haven’t figured out how to eat since I got diabetes. My family is big into caro pecan pie and our recipe has about a trillion carbs per slice. I tried making a lower carb version but the caro syrup is what gives it the correct texture and flavor, and there’s no such thing as low carb corn syrup! I can eat an estimated two forkfuls of pie if I want to keep my blood glucose from spiking! I tried to make a pecan pie-like object with lower carb nut based crust, more eggs, and replacing part of the syrup with pumpkin, etc and it came out more like a banana bread in a crust than a pie.
Other than that I don’t usually eat pie, but my husband loves strawberry rhubarb pie.

Saturday was our weekly 5k on the railroad access road. We got out a little later than usual and it was a huge mistake, since we were leaving the parking lot behind the firehouse at exactly noon when the civil defense siren next to the firehouse went off! Ended up crouched behind a car with both hands clamped over my ears for a full minute, and it was so loud it literally made my EYEBALLS HURT! No idea how the firemen don’t have permanent hearing damage, I guess they know to hide indoors when it goes off.
My ankle continues to be a little tight and sore but increasingly better. Since it wasn’t perfect we didn’t really do speedwork, just ran basically a tempo run. It was a beautiful day, perfect for running, chilly for walking. We saw an enormous red tail hawk! You can’t really tell the size from the photo. My phone takes great selfies, not so great for wildlife pictures.
I did something with Strava that I should have done a long time ago! I created a private segment out of the 5k we run every time we race on the railroad access road. Made it exactly 3.11 so now, barring GPS errors, it should give me exactly my time for every 5k race without having to worry about stopping and starting at the exact moment. And it seems pretty accurate, or at least consistent. My PR on this stretch of road is my race for the Thankful Turkey 5k last month, which since it was a 5k PR for Strava, Strava picked out exactly 5k and told me my time: 27:38. And the new segment I created went back into my history and found that race and said I ran the segment in 27:37 - so it’s only a second off.
Making a segment like this also means I can look at the history of every time I have run that stretch of road since I started using Strava in August! Some of these were races, two involved a bunch of walking, but most were just generally trying to run a brisk tempo run. It’s nice to see gradual improvement. I wish I had been using Strava back when I was doing my spring race series on the same stretch!6 -
@noblsheep purple taro is good, I would love try that pie. I will pretty much try any pie. Mincemeat sounds bad but I've never tried it so I'd be willing to give it a go.
I do love pecan pie @rheddmobile, which is something I avoided for years thinking I wouldn't like it. I'm sorry you haven't found a version you can do now.
Also @rheddmobile that's a great idea to make a segment. Great 5k times! I've never made one but I do track myself on a couple of existing segments that I run a lot. I recently got a PR on one that I had run 20 some times and I was excited. I also became the "local legend" of one segment on Saturday - but only for running it the most times in the last 90 days. Still. Legend!

50 miles exactly for the month so far. That's the kind of satisfying accidental math I love. Just my usual Sunday route and catch-up with a friend. Hamstring is holding up pretty well. Hills are a definite no, but otherwise keeping it easy and shorter seems to be ok.
Tonight if the weather cooperates I'm going to sit at a bonfire and have hot cocoa, with a little something extra warm in it. Cause guess what?

@rheddmobile - In place of pecan pie you might consider making butter tarts. They don't use karo syrup but brown sugar and/or maple syrup and they are small bites of wonderful. Great idea to make a segment. I have never thought to do that. There are some already set up for the trail where I run though and I do look at those occasionally.
Love the hawk! I try to take pictures with my phone of our ospreys, often in flight and they rarely turn out. Lately I have been seeing one circling and diving into the ponds by the trail and have given up trying to get a picture or video. Instead I just stop and take minute to enjoy watching how magnificent they are!
@katharmonic - You really should try mincemeat pie. Most of the mincemeat available in the US has no meat in it or rum that is traditional. It is raisins, apples and spices - yum!
I may have to make some hot cocoa tonight! No bonfires here and it isn't all that cold but, why not? I love the Green Bay Packers recipe though with peppermint schnapps 😊5 -

After overdressing earlier in the week I think I went the other way and underdressed a little for this one. But, I think I'd rather be a little cool than a little warm.
This long run felt harder than my last 2 and I even had to walk a couple times. But when I sat down and looked at my data, I actually maintained a similar pace, even a few seconds faster, than the last few weeks. I just came out too fast because I was cold and then it took a few miles for me to recoup.
I've been trying to do my long runs mostly by feel because I'm usually more consistent when I do that. It's amazing how hard a run feels sometimes then it turns out it was actually a pretty good effort.5 -
Re: pie.
I love pie but don't have it often. Usually it's more of a holiday thing. My favorite is something with meringue on top. Like a lemon meringue or a chocolate pie. My mom makes the best coconut pie ever and it had a big pile of toasted meringue on top that just melts in your mouth.
Never had mincemeat and pecan is just too sweet for me. My mom loves it but she is also diabetic and eats the tiniest sliver. Then usually has to take a little extra insulin. One big reason it is a Thanksgiving only pie at their house.2 -
@kgirlhart Glad you didn't have to run today. Sounds miserable out there. Thank you for thinking of me. Dad got put on a bi-pap machine last night to keep his oxygen levels up. I'm hopeful he'll beat this, but also realistic. We had to make the decision today as to whether to put him on a ventilator if it came to that and we chose not too - after talking to the doctor for 30 minutes. That was a hard decision, but I know it's the right one. I'm just praying it doesn't come down to that.
@shanaber I hope you can find some help with your hamstring issue.
@rheddmobile I can't even imagine how loud that was. When I worked at Cape Canaveral, they told us we always have ear plugs with us - our fingers. It is amazing how much sticking your fingers in your ears muffle the sound. Glad your ankle is doing better. Like the hawk picture.

@shanaber peppermint schnapps in cocoa is delicious. I had salted caramel vodka in mine tonight. The fire was wonderful and it was so good to catch up with a couple of friends who I haven't been able to see much. I will have to try mincemeat sometime.
@Teresa502 good job on your streak while traveling. And 13+ hours in car before running would definitely be tough. Hope you had a great time at the beach! That sounds wonderful.
@martaindale it's amazing to me too that sometimes the feel of the run just doesn't match the pace - which can happen in either direction. I'd rather be a little too cold too because I'm usually going to end up hot at some point regardless. Also see you post reminds me I'm thinking of going back to the rock climbing gym this week if I can. They have reopened more fully and a friend of mine went today and posted pics and I'm anxious to get back into it.3 -

I haven’t eaten that much pie lately, but I seem to have been eating everything else for the last few weeks. I actually bought a new battery for my scale yesterday, so we shall see in a few minutes how much damage has been done. I did buy some mincemeat mini pies at Fresh Market a few days ago to take to my parents’ house for the holidays, although I am uncertain of anyone else will eat them. My husband wouldn’t touch them when we were in England a few years ago.3 -

Hoping to run today over lunch and shoot for 2.5-3 miles. It is cold today, but I'm hoping I can bundle up and power through. And when I say cold, it's only 28 degrees F, so not terrible, but it's the coldest day we've had in a bit here. I'm just thankful we arent in the negatives yet!6 -
2 runs this weekend.
1st run was supposed to be friday but i put it off. after yoga class saturday, speed demon and I pulled off 2 miles. it was supposed to be 3 but nope, no legs. i don't think she minded too much.
Yesterday we ran the Hateya canicross event. Up by me, we did not have any snow or ice. The night before the RD posted that it was muddy. But when we got there, it was ice. lots of ice. And of course, i didn't bring my spikes. thank goodness, they had some for sale. the kathoola nanospikes were awesome. i didn't slide at all.
also got a new foster. she was thrown from a car and run over. she lost a leg. who knows what happened before they decided they didn't want her any more.9 -

Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020 - Completed 12-12

@mbaker566 That is so sad about your new foster. Who would do that to an animal? If you don't want it, there are lots of other things you could do besides throwing out the car window and running over it. I just don't understand. Glad you are taking care of her for now. She looks like a sweetheart.
CoVID update:Dad seems to be doing a little better, but he is giving up. He told the nurse this morning that he just wanted to give up, die, and go to heaven. We are trying to do some things to get him in a better state of mind.
We took him a digital frame with about 200 pictures of the great grandbabies on it. Also took him his cell phone to see if he could hear better with it. It's a Jitterbug flip phone, but I was hopeful. He tried to call me, but didn't say a word and must not have been able to hear me. All I could hear was breathing. We're also going to try to use a spare ipad set up with a FB account for him so we can call and video chat whenever we want. Not sure how that will work, since he is NOT tech savvy at all. But, we are hoping.
They were able to lower his oxygen input to 80% today and his levels stayed up, as long as he keeps the bipap machine on. He's been trying to take it off. Then his oxygen goes into the 60's. Still, that's a good sign that they are able to lower the input. We just have to convince him that he can beat this.14
