@Faebert I hope your test goes well and you get a negative result. Also that you'll feel better soon!

While some of you are having snow and freezing rain, it has been hot (nearly 80F) in So CA this last week. It is supposed to be cooling off finally this next week and we may actually get some rain! What is strange to me is it seems that so many of us are having such horrible winds. We have had what we call Santa Ana winds that were cold first and then the last round were hot again. They were so bad it sounded like our roof was going to get ripped off and it is tile so that is pretty impossible. It was also bad enough that it was difficult to even walk out on the trail near the river.
I have not been trying to run (ok maybe a little) this last week to hopefully give my hamstring a real rest. I keep thinking it is better, then I run and it slowly gets bad again so I am guessing it is not healing completely. I am still trying to get out most days for some sort of focused walk, some faster than others but not running. So far the hamstring has been pretty happy so I figure to keep this up until after the 1st and see how it does then. I know I should probably go see a sports doc, but honestly with the virus issues here as bad as they are I realistically will not go until things improve. If that means I continue to walk so be it. I really was hoping to be back to my 100 mile months again and it is hard not to be there!

@quilteryoyo - I’m so sorry. Sometimes the little things can feel so huge when you are dealing with a loss. Echoing others but please be kind to yourself. If something can be left until later or passed to someone else to help you, do that. I really hope your brother does step up for you. Not only because of your surgery, but because it’s right for him to share the burden and help your mum as much as he can. Sending you big hugs - wish I could help. Hang in there. X

@shanaber Thanks. I really don't feel like I can just leave the clothes in the floor for 8 weeks..if I don't deal with it now, that is how long it will be. Well, maybe not quite, but I know I won't be able to for the first 3 - 4 weeks after surgery. My winter coats are in that pile too. I do make lists. Have them everywhere. I do need to consolidate and prioritize AND see what my brother can do. I'll start that today, but will have to add some to it after we talk to a lawyer tomorrow about probate. I'd like to get some of that going next week. Not sure how much of it my brother can help with. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt since he is still working night shift and watches his granddaughter several days a week. So, he doesn't have a lot of time to do things. But, he may just have to figure it out. We're lucky to live in a great rural neighborhood where everyone helps each other. Mom isn't having to worry at all about her cows getting fed or getting wood on the porch for the stoves. Everyone wants to do something to help. There are just some things that family HAS to do.

@shanaber I'm sorry that you hamstring is still giving you issues. You are doing great to listen to your body and give it a rest. Hopefully another week will do the trick and you'll be back to running 100 miles/month in January.
You did great on your goals for the year.

@HonuNui Love the picture of the volcano and conjunction. The food looks delicious too.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and suggestions. You all are the best.

Normally, I participate in the Brenda Miller Christmas run which is held annually on Christmas morning in memory of a fellow runner who died from lung cancer. Everyone brings their change that they have found on the streets and in parking lots throughout the year and canned goods which are donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Because Christmas Day was so icy and cold, the run was rescheduled for yesterday afternoon. The temps were much better. I think it was 30F when we started at 2:00 pm. Unfortunately, the sidewalks were still icy in patches and since it was the afternoon there was too much traffic to run in the streets. I managed to get in 6 miles before I decided to call it good. Now I need to get out the door for today’s run – I came here for inspiration and ya’ll didn’t fail me!

Way to go @eleanorhawkins! I knew you had it in you!

Glad your kids were able to come home for Christmas @Scott6255. I know that made you and mama happy!

Beautiful photos @quilteryoyo. Biggest of hugs to you @quilteryoyo. You are right you can’t do it all. It helps me when I’m feeling overwhelmed to write everything down. I guess it stops my mind from racing her to there constantly. (ETA – I see you’re already doing this. Hope it helps you too.)

Praying for negative results @Faebert and that you feel better quickly.

What a lovely town to run in @katharmonic.

Sounds like a lovely run through the woods @polskagirl01
    .
I hope giving your hamstring a good long rest will heal it @shanaber. I don’t blame you for not going to the doctor. I’m supposed to have a dental appointment this week and I’m seriously thinking about canceling. It was originally scheduled for last week but they closed the office due to a worker having IT.

@HonuNui – Love both pictures but the volcano and conjunction is just breathtaking!

Well done on those goals @martaindale!

@shanaber – considering what 2020 brought to all of us and the fact that you recovered from having a pacemaker put in, I would say you have done fabulous!

@Tramboman - You always offer good insight and advice! Keep it coming!
