@themrwobbly I tried to sign up and it went through but it's giving me some grief, I'll try again in the morning.0

@TheMrWobbly Thanks. I'll try to join tomorrow. I just don't have the energy or drive to do something "new" tonight.
If you want specific cities, I'm closest to Greeneville TN where President Andrew Johnson was born.
@polskagirl01 You did great in 2020!
Welcome @libbyralls ! This is a very friendly, supportive group. You'll love it.

@TheMrWobbly I joined the Run the World Challenge - I'm in Syracuse NY
@polskagirl01 impressive achievements for 2020 - speedwork every week and a HM every month are amazing. I'm sure you'll keep up your great consistency in 2021.
Welcome to our new members! Please join right in!
I don't know why I've been counting down so intently but suddenly it surprises me that tomorrow is the last day of the year. I need to nail down some goals.4 -
Something to know about Challenge Hound challenges - it retroactively fills in any activity during the challenge period when you join. So there’s no reason to panic about getting signed up on time. Theoretically you could join in December of next year and it would add your miles from the whole year!2

You'll get your extra time at the endMaybe your 2022 New Year's run will take us over the finish line!
Looks like it's set to GMT, which seems fair enough to me. The Americans can start before the ball drops, but won't have as much time a year from now.4 -

For app users, the link only worked correctly if I did it through the full website. In the app it takes you to the site but I got caught in a weird loop and could not get to the actual sign up. Just FYI.
Thanks @martaindale
I cannot change the timezone to include am runs for my antipodean friends. I'm not sure why it doesn't allow for time zones, sorry!1 -

It's been a while since I joined the monthly challenge, but I'm trying to get my running back to where it was at the beginning of this year.
Back in April I had a nasty fall and lost a couple of teeth to the gravel trackIt's taken me a while to get my running confidence back - at first every time I went out for a run I would get constant flashbacks and flinch, afraid I was going to fall again. Also, a few weeks before my fall I was chased by a man during one of my dark early morning runs, thankfully I was about 500m from a police station so I ran straight there, once he realised where we were he took off and I got home safely.
Then of course we had the lockdowns and my marathon was postponed, then postponed again which is basically when the wheels completely fell off my training. I'm sad to say I've gone from being marathon fit to having a long run of 10kI also gained about 10kg this year which has slowed me down A LOT (not to mention made my clothes much tighter)
So my goals for 2021 are to lose the 10kg and get back most of my fitness - I've resigned myself to not running a full this year, but I want to be ready to start training for one in 2022.
I'm following a HM Garmin coaching plan by Amy Parkeson-Mitchell at the moment. To be honest I'm not sure I really like it - I just completed week 5 and it has my long runs at over 60% of the rest of my weekly total which I completely opposite to how I usually train - I've always followed Hal Higdon, but thought I'd try something new this time. I don't like to quit a program part way through, but I may end up back with trusty Hal
I have no idea what my January goal is because the Garmin coaching plan only reveals one week at a time, but I'm going to say 100km and see what happens...
01/01... 10.12 km
Total KM... 10.12
Happy New Year!!8 -
@TheMrWobbly I have also just signed up for the Run the World challenge. I'm in Tauranga, New Zealand
Thanks!3 -
Oh dear, @kirstymn you certainly had been through it!! It sounds like you are over your running block, though so that it a positive. My 2 cents, for what it is worth, based on my own experience, if you don't like a program, then you won't do well with it. Stick with what you are comfortable with, yet challenge yourself within it.2
-
@kirstymn Glad you are able to get back out there and run again after those traumatic incidences. Sounds like you are one tough lady. I agree with @dreamer12151 If you don't like the program, try another. You aren't going to hurt anyone's feelings and this is all about you and what you like. On the other hand, trying a new way to train can be a good thing....until it isn't. You have to find what works the best for you.2
-
Welcome @kirstymn ! I think I've seen you in the Strava group, so it's nice to "meet" you.
Not running-related:
You guys, there's a New Year's Eve curfew... and they recently announced a ban on FIREWORKS. Seriously? Hahahaha, everyone still had fireworks (most were setting them off from out in the street, breaking both rules) and I think there may have even been more than last year.5 -
@kirstymn Welcome back! I agree, it's hard to beat Hal.2
-
I’m going to aim for 60km this month7

Hi @kristymn nice to see another kiwi! I'm sorry to hear about the stuff you went through! Which marathon kept getting postponed? Was that the tauranga one? @ContraryMaryMary lives in Auckland, and I'm in New Plymouth. 2021 will be our year!1 -

I love it. If you were to tunnel through the middle of the earth, the country on the other side is the antipode. There are very few countries with a genuine antipode. I believe NZ and Spain are actually antipode.3 -
Well first run of the year done! 6.5k for Hal. So far I'm doing great haha.
Then in what is becoming my annual New Year's day hike, my hubby, best friend and I with our kids (2x2yr old twins, 4yr old and 6yr old) went for a hike on our mountain. It was great. Its nice to see the kids get better at these hikes. Last year the 3 youngest had troubles. This year just the two youngest lost steam. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast!
Probably all in the wrong order, but us getting closer to the mountain
The summit looks so close!
Various shots around the mountain including all the kids!

Hi everyone! So goals.
I’ve been spinning 3 days and running 3 days. I would like to keep that up and do at least 10k+ on my run days.
On the bike I want to continue to increase my output.
Have also dabbled into yoga, and the goal is to continue and improve on that.
I have 5lbs I’ve been trying to lose, and for me that is a huge number. So will work on that, maybe. But I’m not giving up my chocolate lol.
I’m going to join the run the world challenge tomorrow hopefully!
Hello to the newcomers and hello to those returning! 🥳 Happy New Year!6
