We did get snow so I am glad that I ran yesterday. @eleanorhawkins We are definitely the same in Texas. Almost everything shuts down when it snows which is probably good since no one knows how to drive in this. @shanaber I probably would switch with you, but my husband would be disappointed. He loves winter. Me, not so much. Did y'all get any snow down south @SummerSkier or just cold rain?3 -
@rheddmobile OMG the cat and the rat and the glue trap is so horrific! I can't imagine how you managed to free them without getting bitten. Glue traps are so inhumane, I hope when you give your neighbor a piece of your mind that they learn something. Bless you for helping.
@shanaber I'm sorry your hamstring is still giving you issues. That's so miserable. Hope it resolves soon and/or you can get some treatment.
I'm sorry to those of you who are getting snow who don't want it. I probably will be sorry I wished for it but our forecast is not looking like we're getting it anytime soon.

A gray morning which felt colder than the 23 degrees F that it said. I did my usual Sunday morning run with my usual Sunday morning running buddy. Neither of us felt like it today at all but powered through and had a lot to talk about so it got done. I got home and changed into dry clothes and took Stella out for her walk. By then I was pretty chilled so a hot shower, coffee, and getting under blankets were necessary. I had some cleaning and organizing plans but the coffee and blanket situation is kind of talking me out of that.

haha @kgirlhart yes REAL snow in Central Tx today. Kinda wet tho so not anything to run in. It's all good tho as I haven't taken a day off since 12/31. And my paperwhites are coming up gangbusters already

Negative split run today. It was my first run before sunrise of the year. I'm back to work today after a blissful two weeks off work
@Avidkeo Great time on the 5k!
@Scott6255 Excellent work on the HM
@quilteryoyo So glad to hear the recovery is going well. Hope you get some better sleep
@katharmonic I've never tried skiing. At one point I thought about getting lessons like you. I mentioned it to my family and they looked at me sideways and said "please don't" - I guess they figure my clumsiness will be worse on skis than I already am on my own two feet!
@rheddmobile Oh no! Sorry about the glue traps - I had to look up glue traps as I'd never heard of them - turns out they are banned in NZ
@eleanorhawkins Wow that's some crazy weather! I saw your photos of the cars on Strava and couldn't believe how bad it was

So much happening. Great running @avidkeo, @TheMrWobbly, @Scott6255, @katharmonic. I stayed at my in-laws on Saturday night so ran in their neighbourhood in the morning - they have some pretty steep hills!
All that snow! Wow. So pretty. So glad it's summer here. That being said, I was a very keen snowboarder/skier back in my 20s and 30s. My husband isn't so keen so we haven't skied in nearly 10 years. Also, the snow here in NZ is a bit rubbish, especially in the North Island.
I'm happy to hear your surgery went well @quilteryoyo and that you're up and about. You're going to feel a bit like you've been hit by a truck for a while, but that's general anaesthetic and being chopped open for you. I know you're tough and you'll power through!
I haven't been logging for the past few months, relying on instinct instead. My instinct has been telling me to have fruity cocktails and extra helpings of trifle so I am returning to logging to shed the particular Christmas present that comes with that kind of behaviour!
Rest day for me. The children are still up with my in-laws so my husband and I are off to look at swimming pools! I'm loving the fact that building in the country requires us to have a 65,000 litre water reserve for fire fighting purposes. Basically, we're legally obliged to have a pool!9 -
Wow @kgirlhart that's snow! And @SummerSkier snow in Texas! Where I live we NEVER get snow. It might hail enough to look like snow for about 30 mins but that's about it. You have to go to the south island for snow.
@kristymn thank goodness those glue traps are banned here, they sound awful! Who in their right mind thinks they are a good idea? I love pre Dawn runs, you had to have been up really early!
Well yesterday I had a annoying email. In January last year (before the thing) I was supposed to go to Elton John in Concert. But he got Pneumonia and had to cancel. Only a month later (still pre the thing) he rescheduled for January 14th this year. I promptly booked accommodation for it. Then, obviously, a few months ago he postponed again, because of the thing. I forgot I had booked the accommodation. Yesterday I got an email reminding me and that it's now non-refundable.
I emailed the hotel, and they refused to refund. But did give me a credit to use valid till the end of the year. Well I rarely go to Auckland. But notle have paid 2 nights there. I guessy accommodation for the Auckland Marathon in October is covered! Hmmm maybe someone is telling me something!
Today I'm a little tight after yesterday's run, so I'm going to do a gentle 5k, then do some stretches. May also sit in the spa. Needed I think.12 -
Since we rarely get snow in Texas, we built a little snownan. 😊☃️12

That is the universe definitely telling you something. However, you don't have to run the full, the half is great (honestly, the first half of the marathon is all you really want to do - Devonport prettiness, the rolling hills, the bridge - the second half is no fun at all, especially with a silly o'clock start).
@kgirlhart your snowman is too cute!5 -
4.66 mile trail run this morning. It was about 36 degrees when I started, but I shed my gloves about a mile in because I was getting warm.10

I'm still here, buried in the middle of moving stuff and not running much. Had my first not-40km week since I started my challenge in November. No problem though, will get back on track once things settle down.
I'm also confident we'll be ok with our run the world challenge - we'll add people as the year goes on, and I for one haven't been anywhere near my "normal" mileage so far this year, perhaps others are the same.
I'm gonna try to sneak in 40km this week. Also I need to tackle the junk drawer(s), finish packing my office, and <gulp> think about entering the kids' rooms. That's enough for one week.7 -
@polskagirl01 Yeah. There will be more running as the year goes on. Not sure when I'll be able to contribute, but will when I can.
Good luck with the move. Packing is a lot of work.6 -

So good to "see" you @quilteryoyo! Hope you are able to get some rest and let the healing process begin.

@quilteryoyo glad surgery went well and now recovery can begin!
*So, my New Years resolution is to hike all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

The map for the Run the World challenge is with the Challenge Hound tech team. It was too many miles to fit on one walking route so they have a little bit of work to do putting it together.
My strava is not linking so just updated with my most recent runs. As the majority are in the Northern hemisphere I suspect mileage is a little down on Spring onwards so being marginally behind at this stage shouldn't be a problem. Thank you to those in the South keeping us strong!
Fantastic to have you on-line @quilteryoyo - you can join @skippygirlsmom as the only people who can add walking activities to the RtW2021 Challenge.
Have a great day everyone

Low 30s F today and clear above the fog. No wind to speak of. A pretty morning to run.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)4 -
5 treadmill miles this morning. Over the past couple weeks I seem to be steadily getting slower. First thing that comes to mind is over-training / under-resting, but I'm not doing anything different (that I am aware of) over the past several months. Just winter blues I guess.

HA! I've done two thirds the distance you two have done, in almost exactly the same amount of time as @Scott6255... which just goes to show how different we all are.7 -
