Kate UK - Love lamb shanks. Yummo! We had our meat ration yesterday, homemade meatballs and homemade tomato sauce, (previously frozen) on a bed of roasted cauliflower. Parmesan. With a wonderful bottle of Puglian Senza wine, our latest find. Tonight is sauteed king prawns, in my own sauce of broccoli, scallions, garlic, red pepper and pesto. With a tiny portion of tagliatelle. AF pink wine.
I'm very much looking forward to The Great Pottery Throw Down tonight. But I don't think they are throwing, just building model houses. I'm recording David Attenborough which is on at the same time.
Felt excessively tired today, but dragged through my exercises, thank goodness. My mind is on Colin, whose funeral is tomorrow.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx Happy birthday Cheri!!! :drinker:5 -
Nelly goes out for her first walk, now her vaccinations are sorted.

Kymaral: We haven’t had snow in more than a year. I would love to see some snow but it doesn’t seem likely at this point. :ohwell:
Pip: You are amazing and savvy. The idea of hiring a property manager to rent the condo for six months is brilliant! I hope all goes well and you’re able to move into your new home asap.
Kate UK & Heather: Our previous cable TV provider had the Hairy Bikers in the line-up and I enjoyed seeing them. We were not happy with the provider due to poor service so we switched to satellite TV. Sadly, Hairy Bikers is not available, but we’re much happier with our satellite TV. We are able to see the local Oregon news stations via our satellite provider along with many other channels. The Great British Bake Off is on the Oregon Public TV station.
This morning is foggy. It is nice to be cozy and warm inside.

A super gray and wet weekend here, not so pleasant. But I measured today and I have lost 3.6 lbs since starting back at it two weeks ago. And, my sugar levels (always a disappointment) have dropped almost 100 pts. Still not in a normal range, but better.
What would I have for dinner? Well, actually, I would change it to breakfast. There is this tiny little restaurant (4 tables) in Silver Gate, Montana just outside of Yellowstone National Park that created the best breakfast I have ever had. I would love to go back and enjoy it again. Whenever my family reminisces about vacations we inevitably all say remember that little restaurant we ate that fantastic breakfast at and get a happy dreamy look on our faces. I don't know maybe it was just the mountain air and scenery that made it so amazing, but any place that makes french toast out of banana bread gets my vote.
Travel? Oh my goodness, if I could have one wish come true it would be to travel endlessly. I have created power points of the vacations I want to take some day just in case...
topping my list would be to become fit enough to hike with mountain gorillas and visit Dian Fossey's grave site in Rwanda's Volcanoes Park while staying at the amazing Bisate Lodge; next would be to travel the Canadian Rockies and experience Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper; I desperately want to go to the Katmai National Park to Brooks Camp and see the grizzlies fishing; there is so much in South America I want to see...the Galapagos, Machu Picchu , Iguazu
Falls, the Pantanal, Patagonia, the Amazon....China's National Parks, Italy, Greece, the western part of Australia that I didn't see last time, Tasmania, and I would love to return to Kangaroo Island and the Great Barrier Reef, and SOOOO many of the US national parks I have not visited. I have a solid list of my top 100 places to visit that I regularly research, lol
5 beautiful things:
Well, it is hard in Ohio right now to see beauty as it is so gray, but in the past week:
1. two deer crossed my path on a walk
2. it has been so warm lately there are buds on my trees (way to early to be thinking about Spring, trees)
3. snow flurries are lovely and Bumble loves the snow
4. a video of my daughter's new horse being ridden for the first time, can't wait to see that in person
5. there have been more people wearing masks at the grocery store since the holidays and vaccines are started

Decluttering todayfor flylady:(master) bedroom today. Staring with top shelf(ves). Went through 2 and eaked out a bit of space. I'm not sure if it's worth keeping very favorite CDs and DVDs. I ordered this online at least 2 years ago. It holds 40 DVDS/CDS in a much more compact space than case by case.
I put my favourite art videos: Rothko's Rooms, Street At by Tate modern, Bauhaus, The Eye of the Heart about Bill Viola, and a few others, a very edited video I made of my nieces graduation party, as I was learning video editing: with music and interview about 1) why are you here? and 2) what is friendship for you?, people playing badminton, the old dog, and so on. It makes for a lovely memories... a few other short videos I made in the following years, and a few movies I happened to have on DVD and really liked: "cold mountain", "once", (both with very strong acoustic instrumental and voice sound track by the way!) and a couple of others. I love the 1/4 shelf that that opened up and the finally tidying. I will go through CDs in next decluttering session. Yay! 2 sets of shelves are a mess, but this set is really not that hard to get through, just re-straightening some books and so on. Who reads books much these days. I really don't ahave many, but am not ready to give up the 50-100 I have. I few on research subjects im' interested in, very few on buddhism, a few thick dictionaries, a few technical or how to books (how to get out stains, still good, video editing- very probably obsolete, found an old poetry book that I thought I had somehow no longer had: short French love poems over a couple of centuries. It's lovely!!
Some poems sweet, others funny, others cheeky...

Outside things -
Our daffodils are almost ready to bloom in our front garden.
We love watching the birds in the back garden every morning. The squabbling sparrows at the feeder and the patient pigeons waiting for the seeds to fall. The robin always on the same branch, waiting to pick up a few peanut crumbs and the blackbird listening for worms.
The tulips I planted in a large pot outside our dining room window are poking above the soil already!
The lilac tree is budding. Our geraniums have survived the frosts.
Spring is just around the corner!

Hello Ladies!
I’m a newbie here so I’ll need all the help and advice I can get from you all! 😉
I guess I’ll try to tell a little about myself. Hopefully it won’t take too long.... lol
I am 55 years old and really started having “weight” issues after children. I had actually reached a goal weight a while after my second child, but life and bad habits hit and I am now 100 lbs. over my goal weight. 😔. I have done the diet thing over and over...... I started up Keto a week ago and have lost 6 lbs my first week with the help of MyFitnessPal app. It has really helped me keep my daily goals in tact. My starting weight was 274, now 268.
I am a pastors wife, mother of two boys who are now married, and MeMe (grandma here in the State of OK😉) to two precious boys age 3 and 3 weeks! I am also a teacher of 22 years! My biggest challenge was being diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2019. Through a couple of surgeries and a lot of tough treatments, I can now say I’m cancer free!! Praise the Lord!
So, one of my motivations for losing weight is to be healthier and try to prevent this horrid disease from returning. Along with wanting to be around for my kids and grandbabies.
So, I am looking forward to not only receiving some encouragement and motivation here, but giving it in return.
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!
I guess my word for this year would be “HOPE”7 -

As mentioned yesterday I am meeting a co-worker this afternoon up in Delray Beach. I am frustrated because plans are always loose and I prefer a schedule. All week she mentioned meeting up on Sunday. When I asked what time she said she would call me Sunday. Well, that doesn’t work for me. I texted her yesterday around noon and she finally got back to me with a time at 7:30 pm! I understand some are not planners, but one does not want to wait around all day for someone to call them at noon and say, oh, let’s meet at 1:00. She is always asking me out and I usually turn her down because of this. I think I may mention it again to her I prefer a meet up time. Plans, restaurants, etc. do not need to be nailed down – it’s always nice to walk the “Ave” and just stop at a place that looks interesting.

I agree about liking to plan meeting times. In France or at least in Paris and I think somewhat in France there is a habit of saying something to the effect of "general plan, let's touch base later"
I find that really annoying. apparently it's part of the cell phone culture. I saw some comedy talk or sketch recently about how in the old days, pre-cellphone, and even pre-answering machine, you made plans to be at such and such Time and place in advance and you were there! (hopefully, I know some who were not!).
A friend was a bit similar to me a few weeks ago and I was not happy with her. long story, but something along the same lines. she made an open proposal to meet the next day, and then just before the meet up, made it highly specific, and uninteresting for me in terms of meet up, and refused to communicate beforehand. I said no thanks and said I was not interested and said not to suggest a meet up and then give very specific instructions about that last minute. It was not respectful.
I found out my dad's cousin who I am rather connected to's DH died a month ago and she informed my sister (which is already strange, since I have been seeing them much more and my sister only visited her 1x in past 30 years), who didn't inform me. My sister is really weird. She's convinced she's the goddess of light but she can be quite strange, and not the goddess of light.
SIBLING TRADE?
I would like to trade my family of origin for another set. I find my parents were really ok as parents go for that generation, but I'd very gladly trade my siblings, or at least 3 out of 4.5 -
any takers?1

Dear Ladies! How I miss you!!! My life has been so busy with grand baby that it seems difficult to find time for anything else. I am back where I started with my weight two years ago. 2021 destroyed my goals...I am working on getting back on the program. I know I felt so much better after the 45 pounds I had lost, and I never made it to my goal.
Here are a couple of pictures of Iris...she is growing up so quickly!!
Hope everyone is okay!! We have lost friends and have family fighting the virus. I'm sure it's true for everyone in this group, too! Hugs and love to all!! Luci WNC

KATLA Hairy Bikers have a website with recipes an they’re on BBC good food websites. Not as good as watching them but better than nothing

Just checked there are videos on HB website too1 -
@dandl1986 - You are so right about finding beauty in our grey winter. I will say that the snow today makes it look like we are inside a living snowglobe.
@cj3teach - Welcome. Stick with us and you will find lots of support!
So the book I am reading is "sugar shock" . With hypoglycemia and yeast issues, I thought it was a great idea. I generally do eat fairly healthy. Few processed foods, little alcohol, and the only sweetened drink is honey in my coffee or hot tea. However, the book has made me second guess some of my choices. I do reach for chocolates when I am bored, hungry, and or thirsty. I was sitting here thinking I am hungry, went to grab candy, told myself I needed food. I made egg burrito with power greens and tomato with a side of unsweetened applesauce. Non-scale victory! Dinner is out with friends tonight. Last night shared with husband at dinner. It was perfect serving size. He won't share tonight. 😉

Good morning all! Happy Sunday!
On a side note: My youngest son had this weekend off work. He works M-F (40 hours), then has mandatory OT every other weekend. Friday night, I asked him to help me with a couple of things on Saturday, and he told me he had an all day gaming tournament! ?!? Never heard of such a thing! Turns out, his love of video games, can pay off! He is ranked in the top 10 in the world for one of the new VR (virtual reality) games. I guess, "gamers"/ game makers track the scores of the players, then they hold sponsored tournaments. Top players win $$ based on how well they do, and they also earn the chance to move on to the next tournament. This is the first tournament, the winner takes home around $2.5K. As the tournaments get bigger, the prize money from sponsors gets bigger. Not bad for a hobby that makes most parents want to pull their hair out!
Well, I better fly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
There are actually tournaments of video gamers where thousands of fans pack into some sort of arena and watch others play video games. Of course they are on hold for covid right now, but they do have them. I would get bored, but apparently it's a big deal.

Yesterday, we went on a nice, overly ambitious hike. Right now, my max is about 4miles RT, but yesterday we ended up at just under 6 and were exhausted. My body just isn't ready for that much, yet. Today, off to kayak, hoping the wind doesn't kick up too much.
Getting the outdoor activities in this weekend, as the weather is due to be colder and rainy next weekend.

Cj3 - love the pics! What name can we call you? And whereabouts are you?
Luci - How great to see you and your lovely granddaughter. So big now! I've been wondering about you and hoping the dreaded covid hadn't got you. Sorry to hear you've lost people.
I have the Hairy Bikers diet book no 1 on my tablet. I habitually make the Chicken and Chorizo bake, which is known as "Hairy Bikers" in our house. I use chicken thighs and red pepper though. I also make their Lamb Tagine often. And I have made their Paella.
We make their non diet Lancashire Hotpot occasionally.
They did a fun road trip down Route 66 a year or so ago.
Everyone who knows me knows I am a stickler for times and appointments. No messing.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

CJ, welcome from a gal on Whidbey island in WASHINGTON state. What a beautiful family! You are blessed! Do they all live close by? That babe... So sweet! I am 58, married to a retired Navy Chief (36 years now), mom of 3 sons, eldest and youngest active Navy and middle son a veteran with a family💖.
I too have my struggles with weight, but this is the best place to be. Every day is a new day, and though we tend to look back at past weight strategies, our weight isn't what defines us here. Its refreshing! We have many ladies that have reached their optimal weight, yet maintaining has its own struggles. So for me, I see the end of the journey is like the beginning, just readjusting your perspectives. I have also noticed that every journey is so different like a thumbprint. For me at 244 lbs, I choose to make more choices that further my journey to be less weight. I concentrate on more foods that feed my wellness, than foods that will promote illness.
Sayings on my frig:
-Fridge Pickers Wear Big Knickers!
- Today is a good day for a good day!
- The most important ingredient in food preparation is my MOOD!
Again, welcome!

Welcome @cj3teach! So glad you have joined us.
I have successfully followed my food boundaries this week and as a result have dropped 1 1/2 lbs. I don’t know why I have such trouble remembering that the plan works when you work it! I am 2 lbs away from being out of the obese category on the traditional height/weight chart. My short term goal is to be there by the end of January.
It is cold here in Georgia! I am trying to channel the words of Barbie - there is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing, or something similar anyways. I’m about to bundle up and hit the road.3 -
cj3teach ... welcome!
Allie ... you are in my daily prayers!
Pip ... congratulations on the new home!
Heather ... my sympathy on the loss of someone who meant so much at one time ...
Fae ... glad you got the vaccine and nice to see you posting!
Chris ... happy birthday!
Mary ... I am thinking about you and hope all is well
Kelly ... my younger son has talked to me about those gaming competitions. Times are changing.
Not much to add to the conversation today. Trying to get back on track with multiple areas of my life ... as much as Covid will allow. Older son got his first dose of the vaccine under the 1A grouping (he's usually a group home resident ... living with us during the pandemic ... with multiple disabilities). It will be a while for my husband and I. Husband has 9 more days left until retirement and that has been taking up a lot of mental energy as we plan. I will still be working part-time ... at least until we get everything sorted out. I have a few projects I would like to fund without touching savings. Football is big in my house and our team ... the Buffalo Bills ... won last night's playoff game!
Have a great day!

Allie. Hugs and healing thoughts going your way. I'm so glad you don't have to have a double organ transplant. Hope the doctors figure things out and you are home soon.
Barbie. Got my first dose of the Covid vaccination yesterday. Friday evening, my husband changed his mind and decided not to accompany me thru the drive thru. He wouldn't reconsider so I made a lunch and filled water bottle and got in the drive thru line at 4AM. I was lucky because a couple I know got in line at 4:45 and were told to go home because already the capacity for the day was filled. I got my shot at 11:45 and was home by 12:15. It was a long wait but my second shot on Feb 13 shouldn't be a mob scene because they will only be doing second doses and the "golden card" I received will allow me to get the shot anytime between 9 and 6. Good luck on getting thru the drive thru.
Yesterday was DH and my 28th anniversary and we planned to spend it together in line. But instead he decided he didn't want to wait in line for the vaccination. He was a bit shocked (and angry) that I went anyway. I don't know if it was right or not for me to go ahead with doing the vaccine or if it was selfish. End of story is I am really glad I did and the wait was quite pleasant. I packed my flashlight and was parked where I didn't move for 4.5 hours, so I walked several times did over 30,000 steps and stretched and listened to music and podcasts. It was a good day.

Thanks Lisa!
Having a beautiful day celebrating my 62nd birthday!
We spent the morning gardening. Putting back to rights all our plants we sheltered from the recent Texas chilly weather and snow! My daughter came over and we did crossword puzzles and watched our current binge show on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy. The hubs brought in dinner from Cracker Barrel! A real treat for us. We went for a sunny walk around the park. Will end day with a movie! And...a big piece of cake!!

Betsy, Thank you for telling me about your adventure getting the vaccine. I have infinite patience so when I saw the porta potties on Blake Avenue ( we went and looked on our way home from grocery pick up at QFC) I figured that there would a restroom I could walk to. When I read your letter to Jake, he began to have doubts about the event. We'll revisit it on Monday afternoon and decide what to do.
