We will bury my dad's ashes, not sure when(they are in one of the birdhouses he built and sitting on mom's desk right now-just been a few weeks), on their property, where he wanted to be buried. My aunt, my uncle and one of their sons are already buried there. Mom wants to be buried there too

@kymarai Kylia, what have you found for WBC ? (or have you found anything?) I saw vitamin C seen to increase immunity in general but not specifically wbc... but I'd be interested in what you might find...

Kylia – aren’t eggs in the IP great? I love how they peel so easily, even fresh eggs

Work colleagues were talking about one's family members who were coming for a visit from another country. They would have to quarantine 2 weeks when they got here, then 2 weeks when they returned to their country.
The other work colleague made the comment about a "waste of 4 weeks".
And I thought, "4 whole weeks, staying in one place, not having to go anywhere, not having to do anything ... sounds wonderful!! Not a waste at all ... more like a little piece of heaven!" 😍 Just imagine ... 4 weeks with no work, no study of any sort, no medical appointments, no running errands, and when people send emails hassling you, you don't have to do anything at all about them. 4 weeks to just rest.
Almost makes me want to travel somewhere for the sole purpose of going into quarantine for 4 weeks!
Oh well ... back to work and washing my hands, maintaining distance, and keeping clean.
But here's my question ... if you knew that you had 4 weeks of quarantine coming up, what would you bring with you to pass the time?
I would bring books ... I would actually have a chance to read novels for more than about 45 minutes a week!
I might bring my new Rubik's Cube and maybe a couple other of those sorts of "figuring it out" puzzles.
Sudoku books, of course.
I'd have my laptop and could spend time organising it, processing photos and working on my website.
I'd probably bring stretch bands for some exercise.
And relaxation stuff like my eye mask and ear plugs for long night's sleeps, and bath stuff for soaking, etc.
I could see 4 weeks going by in no time and me wishing for more.
I wonder how I might be able to incorporate that sort of quarantine environment into my daily life.

My eye doctor works in a Portland clinic that has a sight shop in the same building. The doctor tests my vision and writes a prescription for new glasses. The sight shop fills the prescription. I don't know where the glasses are actually made. I had the impression that it was somewhere in the Portland metro area but I didn't actually ask where. I will ask the next time I go in, but that may be quite a while. I'm happy with my glasses for now.
Re Quarantine: We have been living in quarantine in some form or another since the Covid nightmare fell upon the world. We're hoping for vaccinations that will help us be safer and get some of our freedom back. DH & I have not had our turns to get the vaccinations so far. We might be getting our first vaccinations in the middle of February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will happen, but I don't have a high level of confidence that the vaccine will be available. :ohwell:0 -
@machka9 to your question if you knew that you had 4 weeks of quarantine coming up, what would you bring with you to pass the time?
That would not be very different than life now. the biggest difference is that I would order my food instead of food shopping I guess, and I would no longer be able to go for walks and take away coffee.
I would get a mini recumbant (4,6 kg), portable printer, computer, cell phone, paper, sketch books, paper, coloured pens, paint, glue, if I had no thesis or any other work to do, doing art work (drawing and collage) organising computer is good idea, redo website, my memory cards and disks to archive, new external memory disks, a good camera.. meditation cushion, maybe more comfy lounge clothes,1 -

I guess I should clarify what quarantine is.
https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert/how-to-protect-yourself-and-others-from-coronavirus-covid-19/quarantine-for-coronavirus-covid-19
What is quarantine?
Quarantine is when you are well but may have been in contact with someone with COVID-19. If this happens you will be required to isolate from other people to prevent the spread of the virus. The quarantine period is 14 days from when you may have been in contact with the virus.
Who must go into quarantine?
If a public health authority directs you to, you must go into a mandatory 14-day period of quarantine. During this time they will monitor you.
You will need to go into quarantine if you:- have returned home from overseas
- have been in close contact with someone who has confirmed or probable COVID-19
- are entering a state or territory, or an area within a state or territory, that has a required quarantine period.
So I'm thinking of a situation where you might fly into another country and have to stay in a hotel for 14 days, not allowed to leave, perhaps like here where there will be an armed guard outside.
And then you fly home and again, you have to stay in a hotel for 14 days, under guard.
Food is provided within the quarantine fee.

Quarantine- I am thinking....my phone, tablet, laptop, a puzzle or 2, a couple cross stitches, that stack of magazines I want to read, coloring books, colored pencils, markers, and a journal of some kind. The electronics would give me access to family and friends, books, music, movies.
Julie low B12 and folate can affect neutrophils. Other things are infections, viral, fungal, or bacterial. It is a mystery to me. Not so low that the doctor is concerned again. The human body is definitely mysterious. I may have to try those silk gloves. My fingers gets so cold when I put them in gloves. They stay warmer in mittens where they can share the warmth. Apparently they dont like isolation! 😂
Ohio ladies- Winter is finally here! Sunday and Monday highs forecasted at 13 F. Lows on the negatives.🥶 Okay, I will be challenged to get in hot tub at those temps! Getting out isnt the problem since no suits are involved. But that is a definite wake up before getting in!
Happy Ground hog day!
Make the best choices you can!
Remember YOU are WORTHWHILE!
Look in your mirror and tell yourself two things- YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! YOU ARE LOVED
Have a BLESSED day!
😍

Happy Groundhog Day all... If you happen to believe in chunky rodent prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter, bless his hairy little heart.
So, first batch of yogurt went through yesterday, and it did fine and tasted great - ended up a bit loose, but will simply leave it in the Instant Pot a little longer next week. Has anyone tried lactose free milk to make yogurt, and if you did, what did you think?
I was going to ask if there is any way to know if the homemade finished product actually has live cultures, but found the answer online--which is that basically, the output wouldn't be yogurt, it would be spoiled milk. So, yay, it worked, it's definitely yogurt. It's one of the reasons the doc has me doing this, to get that biome straightened out, and if the cultures aren't thriving in the homemade yogurt, that would be an issue.
No idea what the day will hold today... just letting it happen for a change. Maybe a nap. For now, time to go take my pills.
Later, y'all,

good morning all! Kids arriving so I have to be quick.
Heather- I took Spanish in high school, then lived in Mexico for a year, where I worked and spoke only spanish for that year. There is a huge hispanic population in West Michigan; so I have been able to use it from time to time over the years. I watched The Dig on Sunday! It was good. I love shows/books about archaeology, history, etc. Based on a true story, I did find the overtone to be quite sad, though. *sigh.
Pip- Good luck with the inspection!
In quarantine- If I were quarantined away from home; lots of books, phone and computer (for streaming services), alcohol. IF I were quarantined at home, I'd have those things; but I would lose the alcohol and have an order of supplies delivered from Home Depot and get some projects done.
Favorite smells- A few of my very favorite smells are freshly grated ginger, cilantro, rosemary, and basil. I also love the smell of rain. It smells like dirt and worms. lol
Well, the one year old just came and told me she is stinky. (Not a favorite smell) That is my cue to get on with the work day! lol ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -
Today is full of ice. I'm trying to keep my parents home, but they want to cross the street to my Aunt's house because her daughter, my cousin, died of Parkinson's after a long decline out West somewhere. It's hard to say whether visiting is the right thing to do. My aunt's household all had Covid maybe two weeks ago. So double threat. In the end, it's not my decision.

Scale says I lost 2.2 pounds! Yay! Has been stable for 2 days so I will take it! It sure bears 1 pound up every week or so. Steps and water- amazing how they work for me.

KJ - My husband writes detective stories about the Anglo-Saxon period, but they are set a couple of centuries later than the Sutton Hoo time. We have seen the collection several times over the years in the British Museum. Wonderful! We've not been to the actual site.
Going to be singing in five minutes on our Zoom.
Feeling much more energetic today. Aches gone. Hooray!

My life isn't exactly quarantine, but I am home or walking in my neighborhood nearly all the time. Strict quarantine would mean that I wouldn't be with my husband or my two walking friends, but my neighborhood is such that I could walk in the morning and the evening and not see anyone at all. Grocery delivery is possible here. I spend my time time reading, attending meetings on Zoom, riding my exercise bike, watching TV, and knitting. When I walk alone, I listen to podcasts. Thanks to cable TV and the internet, I don't ever have to be alone.
We have a Ninja Foodi with an air fryer. Jake uses that for all sorts of things including hard boiling eggs. I cook exclusively on the stove, microwave, and occasionally, the toaster.
We are scheduled for visits with our doctor on Friday for prescription renewal and Covid vaccine. I'll believe it when it happens.

Machka - Quarantine differs from place to place. Here's the Norwegian version.
Note that we are allowed to go outdoors as long as we stay one meter away from others. Norwegians generally abide by instructions from authorities but if anyone tried to prohibit going outdoors, there'd probably be a revolution.

Lisa: Happy Ground Hog Day to you! It is still dark here in NW Oregon, so Puxsutawny Phil hasn’t seen his shadow here this morning. :noway:
Machka: Thank you for the Friendly February Calendar. I have it taped to my desk.
Elaine: Yes you can! We are all over 50 and there are several beyond 60, including me. Stop by often and get to know us. Women here are from all over the world. We all speak English. :flowerforyou:
Penny at the Pole: It is great to see you! I like the illustration. It is clear and easy to understand, and matches the situation here fairly well.
I missed getting the garbage cans out to the curb this morning, but there isn’t that much in them so waiting a week for garbage pick-up will not cause difficulty. I am currently enjoying my first cup of coffee for the day.
DH & I have an appointment for CoVid vaccinations on 2/22. I hope there will actually be vaccine available to us then. I am hopeful, but not confident. I won’t be holding my breath while waiting for vaccination. :noway: We are all used to wearing masks in public.

Well, that was quite a Zoom session.
I think Jason, the coach, had been "on the sauce" , because he started off really over the top friendly and ebullient and ended up losing his rag in a big way about half way through. No fun.
We just about finished the session in a subdued fashion and then we had an email later to say he had resigned. The organiser said she was going up to his house to collect the music and then coming home to have a big drink.
Oh well.
We sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" in honour of Captain Tom, who we have just heard this very minute, has died of covid. He was the old man who walked in his garden to raise money for the NHS. He was 100.
Having stir-fry chicken and Chinese mushrooms tonight. There was one thigh left over, so I've poached it in the IP for tomorrow's sandwiches.
I watched Call My Agent on Netflix this afternoon while I rowed 300 calories and cycled 75. I'm starting at the beginning, so I've got a lot to catch up on! Thank you son!

6 more weeks of winter or 6 weeks until spring ?? Same to me! Lol
Went to cardiologist yesterday. He put me on Lipitor (generic) and no caffeine. Another blood test in six weeks.
Sunday, I started back on strict Keto combined with IF. No meeting around and have already lost a pound! Hope that keeps up. Going for 20 pounds.
