I don't think I've tried that soda. I don't drink sodas with sugar so if they've got sugar I would have given them a miss.
I have tried and don't like passionfruit yogurt - it's the seeds. If it didn't have seeds, I'd probably like it.
But that reminds me .... the chocolate yoghurts in Switzerland. I don't understand why other countries don't have chocolate yoghurt!

I was WIDE awake at past midnight and so did turn on screen a bit but then fell quickly a sleep. despite what is also true about the light sometimes keeping one awake, sometimes the screen is a sleeping pill. Woke again after 6am to so pretty ok.1

Zoom with my girlfriends today. I expect i will get through a second episode of Call My Agent on the rower beforehand.
Thinking about a Thai green curry for dinner with salmon. The only problem is DH is not good with very spicy food so I will have to tone it down. I'm sure I'll find a way!

fresh baked GF rolls with butter at a restaurant. never yet seen in France. (feesh baked rolls at restaurants here are rare if they exist, never GF, and rarely served with butter-though the latter is negociable)
Big Freshpapaya in Kenya (you get these tiny things that have no ressemblance here)
Also in Kenya, something that was called "good mango" which was not a mango at all, another fruit that I've never seen. looking online it might be called Cherimoya, which is apparently native to the Americas but grown in the part of Kenya I was in. I just read that mark twain called it "the most delicious fruit known to men".
real fresh scones are rare here if they exist
those very green protein drinks like Samantha's (or something like that-i don't remember) very high in protein. they have in the usa. They are not most balanced, but not so bad for a day out when it's hard to eat. you have green drinks here but they are mostly kiwi, and other green-coloured juices but not much protein (or next to none) nor superfood.
good quality malitol sweetened chocolates I think I found them in Colorado.
there are these particular macarons which are only made in one town, by one family.
now I'm thinking of some specific family recipes.

My zoom sessions have started again last night had a bingo and quiz part of the quiz was identifying songs and singers, life lyrics. I love music but I’m hopeless at identifying titles from lyrics. But it was nice to see the guys again and we had a laugh.
Got a knit and natter group this afternoon so need to get my exercise in.
Here in Liverpool we have one of the COVID variants and May be getting what govt is calling purge testing which they are already doing in some other areas of the country

I can get almost anything I want over here in Brighton and Hove, as it's a foodie hot spot and anything I can't get is available online.
However, the one thing I can't buy, because it's illegal over here, is coca tea. It was a lifesaver when I was in Peru. My normal cuppa was not not easily available and I drink at least 5 large mugs a day of PG Tips pyramid bags in true British style. I never thought anything else could substitute, as it would be my choice of a luxury to take to a desert island! But the coca tea proved to be a wonderful stand in, and has the added advantage of helping you to tolerate altitude.
The fresh leaves are by far the best, but a teabag is better than nothing. I would say it has the same effect as a good cup of coffee. I illegally brought some teabags back with me and they are languishing at the back of the cupboard. I came back in 2001. Keeping them for old times sake.

Carol your eyes sound like mine. Was never interested in Lasik, the idea of someone cutting my eyeballs with lasers :noway: Grateful for my ultra light weight Silhouette progressive transition glasses. Put them on before arising and keep on (except in shower) till turning off the bedside reading lamp, but do have to be careful to adjust my head angle when stepping down.

I've found in interviews that when I think I've done worst, that's when I get the job offer, and when I'm sure I aced it, I get ghosted, and they never call. Hard to judge our own performance.
Lots of Instant Pot yogurt doings, so put it in a spoiler, and those who aren't interested can skip it.Well... the yogurt worked out fine, but my stomach won't tolerate it. I know I'm lactose intolerant, I told the doc I was, and he said try it anyway. And yes, I know there are lactose free yogurts, but none I could find at Walmart. And I try not to go too many other places, because I'm still assuming the more I'm exposed the more I have a chance of coming up with the plague. I'm wearing two masks, one I created and a paper one to help that issue, but still.
Interestingly enough, the homemade yogurt made my body react about four times as badly as the commercial yogurt. Possibly because of the microbes that I'm trying to kill. Staying nauseated and flatulent for 24 hours is not pretty. Still trying to figure that out. The only advice from the doc for commercial yogurt was to stay away from carrageenan and make sure to get live cultures. It's so hard to know whether something's hitting me hard because of the microbes that are trying to take over my system, the antibiotics I'm taking to kill those little critters, or something entirely different.
Anyway, back to yogurt... my husband I read up on yogurt cheese, and a very large crockery bowl is sitting in my refrigerator with all the previous batch of yogurt sitting in it, wrapped cheesecloth and sitting in a colander. This morning, I pulled three cups of whey off it. Then I filled a gallon bag with water and tightly closed it, to weigh the cheese-to-be down and squeeze more whey out of it. Want to see how hard I can get the cheese. After eight hours, it's still pretty soft. Even as lactose intolerant as I am, I can eat pretty much any kind of cheese with no issues--just milk and yogurt make me feel like a percolator. Wonder if that will be true for yogurt cheese. We'll see.
And bonus, the home-made lactose free yogurt should be ready to ladle into jars in about another hour--I boiled it last night and put it in the IP to ferment overnight. Just checked it, and it's definitely at smoothie stage. Left it for one more hour; we'll see if it gets to cream stage. Either way, it's going into one cup jars at that point, and I'll get those in the refrigerator to set. My husband finds the ease of making yogurt out of the Instant Pot completely marvelous--and he is also lactose intolerant, so is interested in my experiments.
And, because I try to waste nothing, I kept the whey off the previous batch to use in the whole wheat bread I'm making for Corey later this morning. Supposedly, it will give it a sourdough taste.
Apparently I was channeling Little Miss Suzie Homemaker all day yesterday (with apologies to our Sues!). Played with making the yogurt, did all our grocery shopping, and made kosher refrigerator pickles for Corey, as well, including putting my own pickling spice together. It's possible that the bump in my thyroid meds is beginning to work, that was more energy than I've had in a while. Fingers crossed it stays this way! Tired of being tired.
Today, I'm redesigning and making masks that can contain a second, paper mask without having to have a second elastic band. Oh, and trying to get a pair of jeans hot pads done. The ones we've used for five years are getting limp and horrible. Picture in the spoiler - super easy to make. This one is not mine, I tend to use brighter colors. I've got about eight of them ready to sew, just need to get on it.

A food that I think of often and miss always is ceviche. A wonderful fresh ceviche with conch and octopus bits added into the fish mixture. Fresh tomato, pepper and onion and fresh lime.... my mouth is watering. Last month when Machka asked about "what dinner would we want most (?)" For me it would be a couple of cups of ceviche with fresh crackers and bottomless bloody mary's on a beach, toes in the sand...(My brain might stay in this place for a few minutes....ahhhhh)
The small tourist town I live in has a huge variety of cuisine to choose from. Chinese, Korean, Thai, Mexican (a few choices), Italian, and of course many pizza, sandwich shops, burger places, american grill type places. During Covid most of these places stayed open with delivery only, or it they had the space they set up outdoor dining (fresh air or igloo type rooms). The food trucks have also been doing a booming business. Some of them have organized and they move around so that they are in different parts of town/neighborhoods each day. Pretty ingenious.
It is Wednesday, so we are doing some snow science today. We will be making snow volcanos outside, while we play, then I am going to have each child make a snowball and bring it inside, to see what happens. At age 2 and 3, most of them don't know that they will melt. Should be fun.
Day three of being a bit more mindful about what I am stuffing into my gaping maw. I have also done a good job about getting out and walking. Thanking God and nature that it is staying lighter longer. I am not a fan of walking in the dark. It has nothing to do with being afraid; it has everything to do with not being able to see things and the dark is kind of depressing.

My husband woke me up with two teddy bears in purple Shelby sweatshirts, a diamond Shelby necklace, and two Shelby journals. He said the journals because I had mentioned I needed one-ahhh! Yes, we love our Shelby and have a second one on order.
I said as I was walking that all I wanted to do was curl up and go to sleep. That is what I did! I got in my steps and water, sat in recliner to read my book and promptly fell asleep! Ouch! My hips weren't happy with me as my legs were curled up under me. Woke up, set up coffee for this morning, went to bed, tried to read, fell asleep. The walk did help with CICO though! Ended up only 150 calories over.
So for yesterday

Water- 52 oz of 50 oz
Protein- 17% (fats were 48%!) Day looked great until cheesecake!
Yogurt and lactose intolerance- I can handle lactose in small quantities (milk and ice cream) Yogurt seems to work pretty well. The store bought one I like most is Stoneyfield organic Probiotic whole milk plain. It isn't sour, doesn't require sweetener. I like it with berries, cinnamon, and usually granola because I like crunchy. With no gallbladder I have to watch too fatty/rich/sweet foods too often. I do well most of the time if I am paying attention. Go on an ice cream binge and I am in trouble. It has gotten better over the years, but occasionally rears its nasty head! I may have to try yogurt in IP......
I reckon I should get ready for work-ugh. I really just want to stay home today. I sure hope it goes just a little smoother......

Heather: “I can get almost anything I want over here in Brighton & Hove. . .” Your comment reminded me of Arlo Guthrie & Alice’s Restaurant. We have not gone out for a meal in a long time due to CoVid issues. A local Thai Restaurant is open for take-out only and the food is excellent. We also have a Subway Sandwich shop that is open. I use regular wraps & DH gets gluten free buns.
Kylia: DH & I are also lactose intolerant. There is a product called lactaid that comes in tablet form. You might already use it. I always have some in my car in case we go someplace to eat that cooks with milk or cream. I love cheese cake, and seldom have any, but when I do, I take lactaid before the first bite. It works very well for me.
We have boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations in our garage. I’m hoping to get DH to help me put them back up into the garage attic today. I’m sick and tired of looking at them and all of the clutter in the garage.

I just ordered two sweaters from Amazon. I hope that I will like them. Two that I have loved for a long time are falling apart from use. :ohwell:
The garage is still a mess & DH isn't feeling like helping me with getting the boxes up the ladder. I hope things change enough to get the garage cleared out. I'm tired of waiting to get the Christmas boxes back up into the storage space.

Thanks for the welcome back. You have no idea how much that means to me.
Going to get up to 40 here today and then cold and snow the next 5-6 days. After work today my DGD and I are going to go get our nails done. This is something we have started with the new year. She will be 13 the 14th and love spending the time together.

Have a meeting with my boss this afternoon, a lot of changes going on at the hospital. Since we have joined with others they are doing a lot of merging. Also found out that starting tomorrow (Thursday) they are going to do by appointment Covid vaccine shots for the public the next 8 Thursdays. Sure glad as you would be surprised how many people call the hospital and want the shot and when I tell them we do not do public shots at this time, they act like I am trying to kill them.
