It’s been super cold, snowy, and icy here for days, so I haven’t been able to run outside. Yesterday I ran on my elliptical for 25 minutes though7

Thanks, everyone. I should have listened to my body earlier so it's my own fault. Stretches should help - It's something I'm so bad at anyway and need to spend some more time in the morning both pre and post run doing.5

Running outside NOPE We be to cold especially when you add in the windchill.
I'm in AB too! The sunshine and blue skies is making me happy, but I miss outside. Definitely too cold to run! My dog really loves the cold (its hard to get him to come inside when he's happily lying in a snowbank in -20C), and today for the first time ever he didn't want to go for a walk. I'm excited for this cold snap to end!
5.25 /20 hours done!6 -
I guess I never posted my earlier post I wrote out twice...
I like all of the different ideas about the footprints! Whatever the cause, they sure gave me an appreciation for my healthy legs/hips when I tried to follow them.
Today I dragged my treadmill from the garage into the side room in the basement where I'm making my home gym, plugged it in and did a little speed work (400-meter repeats: fast, slow, repeat) for about 5k. I also thought through how to arrange things and moved stuff out of the way, measured, etc. Then I ordered some forest wallpaper and more of those square-puzzle mats for under the equipment. After the weight machine is reassembled, I'll measure for a set of lockers and a shoe bench. It's a small storage room, but I think I can turn it into a cozy little workout room!
@juliet3455 I can't even imagine that cold!9 -
Hi All. So I dropped into the January thread to only remember it’s February ha ha
I’m trying to catch up so sorry for some long overdue comments.
@quilteryoyo so great you walked for your Dad on this 89th birthday, how you got to that number makes perfect sense. Love it. Tippy is a beauty
@katharmonic I love your mountain hiking pictures. I’ve seen that FUD a few times and wondered how it worked out.
Happy belated birthday @marisap2010
@Avidkeo I agree with you can do 10 you can do 13. Very few HM plans tell you to run the full distance. Beautiful pictures
@shanaber I hope it’s not a tear. Yummy tangerines
@AlphaHowls pretty shoes!
@polskagirl01 I walk like that in the snow too to fool around LOL
Obviously my mileage for February is zero.
Just a quick update, stitches came out last week and a new cast is on for the next 3 weeks. After that I start PT 3 days a week for at least 6 weeks to start. Besides that life is boring. I've been going into the office, which can be exhausting (my co worker picks me up), otherwise I've just been sitting at home.

@juliet3455 - Yikes that is too cold! You may have to resort to @AlphaHowls crazy laps inside in the house.
@Eaglesfanintn - Hope you heal quickly! If you have one, you might try some foam rolling before the stretching.
@martaindale - That is very speedy! Great workout!
@polskagirl01 - your little workout room sounds awesome! I wish I could build out something similar in my home. Maybe if I get rid of my dh's bed 😁 she could sleep on a treadmill when she comes home to visit, right? We'll just put one of those memory foam things on it!
@142jmh - what kind of pup do you have that loves the cold? I have a Vizsla and we have no idea how they could ever have tolerated the cold in Hungary. He shivers when it is in the low 50s here. At agility class last night it was 54 and he needed his blanket jacket on between runs.
@skippygirlsmom - glad to see your update! I have been thinking about you and hoping you were doing ok.
No run/walk for me today. Between my longish (6.5mi) run/walk yesterday and agility last night (another 2 miles of running), Hobbes the Vizsla and I both need a rest day. I will be doing some strength training this afternoon though, likely while he frowns and judges my workout and then sleeps and snores thru the vast majority of it.3 -
@polskagirl01 It sounds like you are going to have a great little home gym. I love that you are going to get forest wallpaper. Great job on your treadmill speedwork today.
Thanks @skippygirlsmom . Hope you continue to heal. It's been almost 5 weeks since my surgery and it has gone by so fast. I've barely put a dent in my post-op to to list - things I need to do that I CAN do. Seems like other things keep popping up that have to be done first. Anyway, I'm trying to encourage you that the time goes quickly and hopefully you will be back to being active before you know it.

We had a meeting with the lawyer this afternoon about dad's estate. We did some other things while in town, so it was after 4 when I got home. Those trips always make me tired. I was tempted to take today as a rest day, but it was fairly nice out, really nice for the beginning of February, so I talked myself to walking driveway laps while dinner cooked. I'm glad I did, because I felt more energized as the walk went on instead of just wanting to quit.

Hey all.
The rain I was expecting yesterday came today and it was WET! I did 8k. I kept trying to slow down, but I was so comfortable I found it challenging. I was supposed to do 6:27 min/k and ended up with 6:17. This gets me excited, cause it means I'm on form.
I'm starting to get really excited!8 -

Go you. Good to see your base fitness held through your injury. You’re going to do so well next weekend!2 -
February Goal: Hike/Run the "C's" *
2/1 off
2/2 3.50 Cote D'Ivoire and Cape Verde Islands
2/3 off
2/4 3.35 Cambodia
2/5 Life
2/6 3.55 Cameroon
2/7 4.30 Canada
2/8 off.....I deep mucked the chicken coop, then took all the ...muck....and hand tilled it into the garden. Then relocated all my (heavy) container veggie pots, then planted all my tomato starts. Found many muscles that I didn't know existed before....2/9 2.10 (no "travel")
Total 16.80
@avidkeo Not just train trips....I realize my paragraph below was poorly worded. I added both of your suggestions to my travel itinerary!
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country?)

February Goal: 90 Miles
2/2: 5.31 miles
2/3: 6.07 miles
2/5: 5.26 miles
2/7: 10.10 miles
2/8: 5.30 miles
2/9: 5.32
37.36/90 miles completed for February
Today's run may have been my coldest run ever. If not it was definitely one of the top coldest. It was 28°F feels like 18°F. That may not be cold for some of you, but in Texas that is really cold. And it is supposed to be even colder the rest of this week and through the weekend and possibly some freezing rain. I don't know if I will get any more runs this week. I am planning to play it by ear. I have already decided not to run in the morning. It's been kind of misty most of the day and there may be some ice and I don't want to run when it is dark and icy.
But today's run was really good. The hardest part really was getting out the door. I never quite know what to wear when it is cold, but I was fairly comfortable. I ran the same route as yesterday. I had a dog that was in his yard bark at me. It was a great dane and he scared me at first. Mostly because he is black and was in his yard, so I didn't see him and great danes have really loud barks. It was kind of funny too because I saw that dog one other time when his family first moved in but I haven't seen him since. Yesterday when I ran past that house I thought about the dog and decided they must have moved. I also saw a skunk this morning. Luckily he didn't seem to notice me.
I ended up running a little over 5 miles. It was really cold, but I still enjoyed it. I'm going to post this, but I will probably have to wait until tomorrow to catch up on the thread.

Hi guys. Reaching out for some advice regarding the ankle. I twisted it on Friday last week. Had run in the morning no problems, but out walking on uneven ground in a park in some slightly loose shoes, I did some damage. It twisted outwards, and the outer ankle puffed up with a bit of a bruise. I’ve done the usual - ice, compression, elevation etc - and it does feel much better. Walking fairly normally but it’s still a bit puffy. I can flex the foot without pain but when I point my toe there is pain and it’s really uncomfortable.
I think I probably know the answer to this, but do you think I should try a gentle run on the treadmill or give it a bit longer? I’m really frustrated at more time off, but I definitely don’t want to make things worse.
Also, any tips on good support/taping much appreciated. 🙏 x8 -
@shanaber He's a Bernese Mountain dog, crossed with Akbash. He is a sweet, lovable, giant (133lb) doofus of a dog that loves snacks and pets and snowbanks. At 50F / 10C he jumps into every pond and swamp he can find!
@kgirlhart 18F / -7C is cold for sure! What boggles my mind is the idea of running in a Texas summer. Honestly, that seems insane to me!
@Faebert I don't have any tips for you, but I hope it heals quickly!8 -

My husband recommends the ASO ankle stabilizer. In general ankles are self limiting in that it will hurt too much to run if you shouldn’t run, but if it’s still swollen and bruised I would definitely wait.2 -
@Faebert I'm not in any way a medical professional, but I would also wait! Frustrating now, but much better than injuring it worse and being out of running even longer. I hope it heals quickly for you!3

No running this last two days, as I have had to work late, but I did go to my body pump class last night. Too tired and hungry to run after though.1
-
My leg felt a bit better this morning, but instead of making it worse, I cut my route in half and took it really slow. Also did some stretching before and after. Man, am I inflexible. Should do more of that. Probably do the same for the next few days - easy and short routes.

You are doing great @Avidkeo ! You're going to kill that HM!
@HonuNui That's a lot of work, but I'm sure it pays off.
@kgirlhart That is cold! You did great with your run and good call to not run in the dark with potential black ice. That could end in disaster.
@Faebert Sorry about the ankle. I think I would wait a few more days too. You don't want to make it worse.
@142jmh Love the pictures of your dog. Tippy likes to play fetch with "sticks" that size too. It's dangerous. LOL I would like to have a Bernese Mountain dog, but it's just too hot for them here.
