The cold! We seem to be escaping the brunt of it surprisingly. But we have had nothing but rain and freezing rain, Temps in the 30's.
But I would be like most of you and not even try!
7.35 on the Tread - last mile was cool down.
Tomorrow is spin day.
Happy Week !
Another treadmill master! Good to see you @hamsterwheel6!2 -

Hey Teresa! Been busy busy at work and only getting busier as this half of the year is for my job. I try and pop in when I can just like it is for you lately sounds like.
Treadmill has been saving my runs. The peloton classes really help keep it interesting lol.3 -
Great job on getting out for your run this morning @Teresa502 ! I hope you didn't get too much ice.1

So, I took Tippy for a walk into the neighbor's field and finished with driveway laps. Total of 2.0 miles in 33:52 minutes. I hope everyone is staying warm and safe!5 -
Feeling for all you guys in the cold snap!1

Thanks @Teresa502 - that's what I'm hoping that the two worst months are done, but you just never know with March and April. I have an actual in-person HM scheduled for March 20 so that is scaring me a little bit.
Good job all who braved the weather and all who gutted it out on the treadmills.

I hit the treadmill at the gym before strength training today, having no desire to go outside even though things were not bad here yet. We had some snow around midday and then a break. We're supposed to get 5-8 inches or so overnight. Hopefully not much ice but there is a wintry mix in the forecast for tomorrow morning, conveniently around commute time.2 -
I was zooming in on our RTW 2021 map and it turns out we are running through the Azores right now. Normally this would be perfect timing because it is Carnival time! Sadly they are on lockdown though.
Let's enjoy virtually running here instead of our frozen tundras (I'm not even going to spoiler this because look):

February Goal: Hike/Run the "C's" *
2/1 off
2/2 3.50 Cote D'Ivoire and Cape Verde Islands
2/3 off
2/4 3.35 Cambodia
2/5 Life
2/6 3.55 Cameroon
2/7 4.30 Canada
2/8 off
2/9 2.10 (no "travel")
2/10 3.35 Chad
2/11 snorkel 2.5 hours
2/12 3.10 Central African Republic
2/13 3.60 Chile
2/14 off
2/15 4.29 (no travel)I actually did a nontreadmill "run" today. It was excruciatingly slow as I was also participating in the Audubon annual bird survey and had to frequently stop for a bird id! (the highlight was a black crowned night heron.....who flew away just as I pointed my camera....)
Total 31.14
Hugs to all of you who are dealing with weather/ice/snow and power loss.
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Hi everyone ☺ I love to run! I usually do between 12 to 15 miles weekly. I prefer outside but if weather gets bad I do run on a treadmill begrudgingly though lol. My runs have suffered a little since I started strength training with a trainer. Im sure ill bounce back quickly just curious if anyone else in this group has ever had this issue?7

Hey I ran 5k today! Temperature 11 F, wind chill -5. I feel pretty proud of myself and don’t regret it, but honestly if I had known how hard it was going to be, I probably would have stayed home. We had about 8” of fresh snow mixed with ice, and it was postholing the whole way, along with slipping. Twice I ran off a curb because the snow was too deep to tell where the sidewalks were. I believe this was a Personal Worst, the slowest 5k I have ever done, including the very first one when I was obese, and the one I walked because I ruptured my Achilles’ tendon a week before a race I had already signed up for. It was that good! My fastest mile was 15 minutes something and my slowest was over 20. I tried to run in the ruts left by the one or two cars which had passed, where the snow was a little more packed (there were no cars out when we were running so it was safer to run in the road than to risk falling off the sidewalk) but even then my foot was breaking through every stride and sinking several inches. Jumping out of the snow was exhausting and would need a walk break, but walking was in some ways even harder because my feet would slip more.
However, I cheered myself up after I got home. I recently joined the Memphis Runner’s Track club Strava group, and I took a look at the recent runs done by other people in my area to see how they were faring. One guy who I know normally runs 5 minute miles was running 15 minute miles, and another guy posted that it was like trying to escape from quicksand by running! Another lady said that the snow was simply too deep to run. So I felt a little better seeing that I wasn’t alone in struggling. Those of you who regularly run in deep snow, how do you manage? Are there any tips?
I also feel proud of my first ice beard! As a lady I can’t physically manage a real ice beard but my buff got wet from my breath and froze solid, which is as close as I can get in this lifetime! My husband had a little bit of a genuine ice beard.14 -

Welcome! I don't strength train per se, however, I know after an intense yoga session with lots of quad work my legs are dead the next day, making running a real challenge. However, as you get stronger, your body will adapt I'm sure, and it'll be great for your running in the long term. I'd just pull back on leg work a few days before any major running events so you don't negatively impact your time!4 -
A really slow morning in the snow and ice. Fortunately, the snow covered most of the ice so footing wasn't too bad. 12 degrees with a wind chill making it feel like zero made this my coldest run. Don't get too many days like this in central TN.

@katharmonic WOW! So pretty. Thanks for sharing. Wish we could all be there and actually run on that trail...if we could start at the top.
@HonuNui I participated in the bird count too. Nothing exciting here, unfortunately. Cool that you saw the heron.
Welcome @jillroy81 ! I can't help with your question as I don't do strength training. I probably should eventually add it to my regime, but not right now.
@rheddmobile You and your DH are beasts for getting out and running in that! Congrats on the ice beard?! I hope you can stay safe and warm!
Great job in getting out in those conditions @Eaglesfanintn ! I feel like a wimp for doing my walks on the treadmill, but I'm a warm wimp!4 -

2-15 6k treadmill
2-16 5k dreadmill + yoga
February Total: 105.1k
February Goal: 150k
We ended up with about 4 inches of stuff -- ice mixed with snow mixed with sleet mixed with ice. So, it was treadmill time.
@rheddmobile Congratulations on your first ice beard!!! I won't run in deep snow. It's always dangerous when you can't see where your foot is falling -- kind of like trail running without a light. As you noted, your legs got a workout, while your mind got frustrated. Not worth it in my book. But on snowshoes -- that's a different story!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)3 -

Thanks. Believe me, if I had a treadmill, I'd be on it!

5 easy ks this morning. Recovery run. Now no runs for 2 days. It's windy as heck this morning and apparently will be windy on raceday. Sigh.
Today we find out if we are going to be able to race. Fingers crossed!10 -

Woohoo! I ran this morning! And the ankle was fine! It was lashing rain but I was determined to run outside rather than treadmill. Managed 5km but it was a battle. At least it’s not cold anymore - the whole time I was resting the ankle was sub zero (c) and icy.
Going to try and read back and catch up with everyone but I hope you’re all doing ok.9 -
Sub 20F still, but luckily we have power. Able to get in 6 miles on the treadmill. Felt spunky at the end and cranked it up to 9 for a few seconds 😜
