We only had a dusting of snow, but it's cold...not as cold as most of you, but cold. It has been 25°F and windy all day - feels like around 15°F. Tippy was begging for a walk, so I did bundle up and take her for a short stroll in the neighbor's field and walked to the mailbox. That 30 min was enough for me. I did NOT want to exercise, so knew if it was going to get done, I needed to do it before I sat down or started doing anything else. So, I changed clothes and went down for a treadmill session. I wanted an easier day, but still wanted to get in at least 30 minutes of walking, so I did a ladder that went from 3.3 mph - 4.0 mph and back down, staying at each level for 5 minutes. Worked out perfect for 2.0 miles in 35 minutes...3.4 mph average pace.5 -
@katharmonic - ohh I cold definitely envision running there and I'm not even anywhere cold! It looks so beautiful!!
@HonuNui - I don't see them often but we have the black crowned night heron here too down by our river. The first time I saw one I thought it was some kind of weird penguin!
@jillroy81 - Welcome! When I was training regularly with my trainer (paused for now because of Covid restrictions) I would usually try to schedule a rest day after an intensive leg day, although getting out for a walk or slow recovery run often helped with the day after soreness and tiredness. I would also recommend making sure your body has time to recover and repair from each activity. As @contrarymarymary said I would always ask to limit what we did the week prior to any race because I didn't want to be sore anywhere or my body tired and still recovering, on race day.
In general overtime though you will find the strength you gain from training will help make you a stronger runner overall. It helps with your form (strong core), with keeping your leg 'chain' (hips to ankles) strong and having a strong upper body helps power you forward too with strong arms, back and shoulders.
I am so impressed with all of you getting outside to run in the brutal temperatures! Be safe everyone!
@rheddmobile I hope your legs aren't too sore! I am sure that was some workout!
@Faebert - so glad the ankle is feeling better!
@Scott6255 - 6 miles on the treadmill is about my limit, not sure I have done even 6. I just get too bored with it. If you keep pushing that pace you might find it is for longer than just for a few seconds!6 -

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE!!!! I'm hoping to run another marathon but this time I want to be stronger to help prevent injuries!4 -
Has anyone heard from @WandaVaughn lately. The last time I recall her posting was a few months ago right before she had a colonoscopy? I've been wondering about her.
Also, I'm sure @Camaramandy648 is still running like a mad woman, but she hasn't posted here lately. Hoping she is okay and maybe found a new job.
Also missing @7lenny7 .1 -

I haven’t heard from @WandaVaughn recently either. You out there? @Camaramandy648 is second on the Run the world leaderboard and posted a couple of runs today, so she’s keeping on, just not socializing as much. @7lenny7 posted on Strava yesterday that his plantar fasciitis is going to keep him from running for another five weeks and he has taken up spinning in the meantime and even the word spinning is too much!3 -
No run for me today. It was -3°F when I got up so it wasn't happening. I didn't even do yoga today. I have been lucky though. Most of my town went for hours on Sunday and Monday with no power. Some got it back and then it went off again. My sister has only had power for about 6 hours since Sunday. We lost power yesterday evening for a couple of hours, but for the most part we have been warm enough and had all we need. We still have warer too so I am really thankful. We had over 7 inches of snow and it was snowing again a little while ago and we are supposed to get more tonight. I am hoping to be able to run on Friday but will have to see. We aren't supposed to be above freezing before then and I am worried about the roads being slippery and also with the deep snow I worry about stepping in a hole or not being able to see the curb.5

My race is happening!! We've come out of lockdown! Yay!15

Running through an inch or two of powder is like running on the beach. Felt more of a burn in my legs, despite my slow pace.

@rheddmobile Thanks for the updates. I hope @WandaVaughn is okay. I didn't know about @7lenny7 's plantar fasciitis. That stinks. I figured @Camaramandy648 was out there somewhere.
@kgirlhart Glad you have maintained power. Those are horrible conditions. Be careful running in the snow. Not being able to see what is underneath that you may step on can be dangerous.
Happy Dance for you @Avidkeo ! That's great news.2 -

@kgirlhart – Glad you are managing. I read this morning where several people have lost their lives due to this cold weather including people dying from carbon monoxide poisoning trying to stay warm in their cars. Stay safe my friend!
@katharmonic – I kept my browser open so that I could see that picture from Azores all day yesterday. Thank you!
@Avidkeo – Yay!!! So glad conditions are good enough for relief from the lockdown and for your race to happen.
@shanaber – I hope your hamstring is healed completely soon. You have been very patient with it but I know you are ready for it to be better.

Clear and minus 2 F this morning. Still snow on the roads so I just plodded along on the treadmill.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)3 -
Thanks @Teresa502 - I finally was able to get the MRI scheduled for next Thursday. Apparently for what my doctor wants I have to go to the hospital to have it done rather than the smaller center but as long as it gets done I don't care at this point.
@Avidkeo - YAY! So excited for you!!
I got an email from Revel Racing this morning about this race in Idaho. If I were racing now and running HMs again I would definitely sign up even though it is really expensive. It is a gorgeous area on the downhill portion of the road from one of me favorite places in the world (Redfish Lake, Sawtooth Mountains primitive area) into Ketchum/Sun Valley. I would have to go a week or so ahead of time though because it is at altitude for me, 8000ft for the Marathon and 6600ft for the HM! Anyways thought some here might be interested.
@quilteryoyo - good call on some our missing runners. I didn't know about @7lenny7's injury either.
I am also wondering about @mbaker566, I haven't seen any posts from her since the first of the month. I hope she and the pups are all doing ok and not buried under the snow!4 -
Finally got a run in! 9.4km in a park with a friend who kept talking and would not stop... a good distraction.
Added to the run the world challenge - we're nearly 1000km ahead, how the heck did that happen?! Y'all are really killing it out there, especially with the cold and snow. Stay safe everybody.
@Avidkeo Yay on the race!
@jillroy81 Welcome!
Very behind on the thread so hugged and liked. I really need to get back on this train/wagon thing we're rocking (yes I am very confused on my metaphors).7 -

@Teresa502 WTG for getting out to run that early in those temperatures.
@noblsheep Glad you had a good run today!
@shanaber I just looked up that national park. It's a beautiful area. I might have to keep this race in mind for when I'm running again too.

Have arrived in Wellington, where the HM is happening on the weekend. Today is Rest day for me today. We'll cross training. Took my mums e-bike for a 15km ride along the river. Those things are heavy. I took the assist completely off and it got hard haha. It also had gears though. Absolutely loved it!3

It was 19°F this morning, but no wind, so it wasn't too bad. I waited until nearly 11:00 and went out for a walk with Tippy. It was 25°F when we started, 30°F when finished. I was hoping that the field would still be frozen, but, everywhere the sun had hit, it was very muddy and slippery. (Yes. We had SUNSHINE all day today! It was so nice.) So, the first mile was slow - 3.3 mph. The second mile was driveway laps and much faster - 3.8 mph.) Still going strong. Have my second follow up in the morning, if the weather allows. We are supposed to get snow and freezing rain. I hope not. I really want to be able to go and hopefully get released to do more activities.4 -
@shanaber I have been eyeing doing one of those Revel races for a long time. That one looks amazing. I would love to do it. The half that is. Although maybe if I just tuck and roll downhill I can finish the full. I don't feel like I can plan trips just yet but a destination race is on my list for when I can. Glad your MRI is scheduled.
@noblsheep good to see you - what happened is we have our ringers @AlphaHowls and @Camaramandy648 cranking out the unbelievable miles and carrying us along for the ride!
@Avidkeo so happy your race is on. Enjoy the pre-race time. Keep it easy.

Beautiful clear blue sky winter day, so I was fooled into thinking it was going to be much warmer than it was when I went out at 4 pm. Brisk! A 5k full of chatting with a friend got it done for today.3
