This is what I love most about sobriety. This is what makes it an exciting journey for me.
This is so true. I have launched a business that makes me excited in the last 9 months. Sobriety gave me that.
Congrats on 90 days!! I love your attitude!6 -

@donimfp Thinking of you. Perhaps daily journaling and goal setting could work- maybe you do that. I find that if I write a to do list in the morning, I get the jobs done.
You could write:
1. I will be sober.
2. I will read one sober article.
3. I will watch one sober youtube.
Something like that- maybe view it as getting educated about sobriety may inspire you to get back to your streak. I also love reading about different sober celebrities like Rob Lowe, Bradley Cooper, etc. Tik Tok also has great sober tik toks that inspire.4 -
One more thing... accountability helps. Even if on this thread, we feel accountable to each other. I know I think of many of you when I feel tempted. That helps me so much.
Remember Whitney used to post each day "another day AF in Vegas". (something like that)3 -
@RubyRed427, thank you for your thoughts! I believe up above you may have thought my quoting Beka was "me" talking, but that's ok. She and I do share the "need to get back to sobriety" struggle!
I also often think of Whitpauly saying "Another 24 in Vegas" (or whatever it actually was). It took me the longest time to stop wondering why someone getting sober would constantly be going to Vegas before it clicked that she lived there. Doh!
I do appreciate the sentiment that every day is "Day 1" in some sense. However, my Day 100 "Day 1" was not the struggle that my chronological Day 1 "Day 1" is! It's so important for me to build up some momentum rather than going 5 days sober and then 20 days (or more) drinking. Ruby, I'm so glad you didn't get that wine!!!! Drinking on January 6 was the absolute worst decision I've ever made. Well . . . maybe not quite. I've made some doozies.
And FooFoo (Sorry, no time to scroll up and remember how to type your upnrunnin name), I am also SO glad you got right back to it. 90 days is freaking amazing!
Love to all.4 -

Hello I'm now back at work mostly full time. I have been off most of my jobs for 2 months due to the last stay-at-home order. SO it took me a couple hours longer to get caught up at my job today. My client not only gave me extra $$ for the extra time, but also gifted me a lovely bottle of red wine...my "former" favorite!! It is so nice to be appreciated, she was so excited to have me back. They are a great family to work for, one of my blessings.
I was SO tired after work that I just wanted to head home, but I forced myself to re-gift the wine to a moderate-drinking friend and hand delivered it right after work. I briefly thought about just heading home with it & delaying the re-gifting but thought better of it. It did not pose a temptation in the least. At the same time, I do not want to be over-confident, so now it has a new home.
Hope everyone has a great week...stay strong!!10 -

Wow!!! I am impressed by your strength!!!
I had a convo today about never allowing trigger drinks in the house. You did this!!! I’m very proud.
I could live with an open bottle of whiskey from now on and never touch it. But a bottle of red wine might never see the light of another day.
Good job eliminating the trigger!!!6 -
@Beka3695, same! My husband drinks bourbon (moderately), and I wouldn't sneak a sip from his bottle for anything. So it doesn't attract me. My relapse in Jan. was helped along by the fact that my in-laws who own a winery, and were totally unaware of my struggles, had just sent 3 bottles of their wines for Christmas. Definitely no one forced me to open that first bottle, but the fact that it was there made it so easy to do. The Jim Beam doesn't entice me at all, but I have learned that there's no such thing as an innocent bottle of wine hanging around my house.6

Hi. After a graduation party where once again the wine tasted like Kool-aid, I know I have to take a break. I am on day 3 AF.
Thanks for this forum. I am certain it will help me.9 -

I"m a fast drinker. The glasses just go down so quickly. I marvel at people who can nurse a glass of wine! Never could I! Welcome!8 -

Today I am six weeks AF. After too many years of Day 1s, I am grateful to be here. This forum has been very helpful; I have picked up useful tips and good advice. Thank you to all the regulars (and the irregulars) for sharing your stories and your struggles. You are making a difference!
I began drinking in my late thirties as a passive aggressive response to feeling rejected in my relationship. It turns out that drinking didn't make things any better, but I kept at it for 15 years just to be sure. I didn't go to bars; I drank alone. I didn't get hangovers, but I dreaded looking at my phone in the morning, wondering what conversations I didn't remember.
I rarely post here, and I suspect there might be others who read without posting. If I can be of help, please reach out. This feels good, and I want other people to feel good, too.10 -

Awesome- 6 weeks!
Oh I remember checking those texts- ouch! or sometimes I would just call someone to tell them exactly what I think of them! That was fun the next day.
Keep up the great work- one day at a time. Thanks for posting!6 -
Hello All! I still pop my head in here from time to time to read through the thread. I love hearing how it helps people. I just wanted to say I'm one of them! I've been back on MFP for the last 5 months trying to get rid of covid weight. I first started going through posts about 3 years ago. I felt hope and motivation in your words while I was struggling through WAY too many day ones. But I kept reading every day and I kept reaching out. I felt a sense of private accountability and always appreciated that I NEVER felt judgment. I'm happy to say I'm 2 years 4 months three weeks and three days AF!! Now when I log my food, I don't have to keep my food diary private due to my embarrassing liquid diet of vodka. I appreciate you all! And to all the newbies, the journey is difficult in the beginning, but so worth it. Maybe I'll go into all the benefits next time. My warmest regards to all.11

@MountainLaurel787 So inspiring! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and struggles. These kind of comments is why our thread is truly helping so many. How many of us can relate to the comment, "Now when I log my food, I don't have to keep my food diary private due to my embarrassing liquid diet of vodka." ? I know I can, just substitute wine, beer or whatever your poison was.
I have been listening to evening mediations now on YouTube. I find them relaxing and comforting. Last night I listened to this one. It did not QUITE put me to sleep but it was close.

9 days in…. Almost to double digits again!!!!
One thing my 2 month off the wagon taught me is that we don’t live in our past. It was there to teach us and remind us, but it is not our punishment.8 -
I don't have an addiction to alcohol, no more than I have to any other thing I enjoy so much, such as sugar. But now since I've eliminated alcohol from my diet, I need to stop eating all the sugar.5
