I'm around all kinds of tempting junk food food ATM that will be in the house for awhile since I'm not eating it. My room mate will be the one eating it lol. Lucky for me there is no temptation since there is no point in doing anything to hinder my progress. Nothing really tastes good anymore except for the food which I know will help me reach my goals.
18 days is awesome!!! And today is 19! Take some time to meditate or walk in nature. Hopefully your stress will recede.2 -
@lloydrt Merry Christmas to you. It's sad about your friend. And sadder that the daughter lost her mom. I think when you realize that drinking will kill you if you continue, there must be such a profound decision to stop.An awakening... I think anyone can stop but you need some kind of support group, family members who will help, and deep desire to take it one day at a time. I'm not saying this right, I feel for all of the people involved. xo3

Merry Christmas, all! I had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner/celebration at my mom's last night, with my daughter, son-in-law, and two precious granddaughters coming in from out of town. A very strange thing happened. No one discussed alcohol. It was offered, as always. I went for a Diet Coke and then Topo Chico (Mexican version of Perrier/Pellegrino). But the weird thing was . . . so did almost everyone else. I think my nephew may have had one drink. My mom asked if we wanted her to open wine for the dinner table. We all said, "Nah, that's ok." So no wine. That was really weird. Or maybe that's always what happens and I just don't notice as I drink my drinks. My sister usually joins me, but maybe I'm the instigator because she passed, too.
Have a great day everyone! I can't believe I feel like going for a walk on Christmas morning.8 -

@JenT304 Merry Christmas, Jen xo
@VeggieGirlforLife Yes, the urge passes and then you feel so relieved you kept your focus. xo
Soon, I'm cooking breakfast for my ex and the kids in an hour. One of the best lessons I learned this past year was no matter the pain and heartbreak, you still have a fresh start every morning when the sun wakes up.
To anyone who may have drank last night, sending you a big hug. Hopefully, you will dust yourself off and start fresh. There are unlimited Day 1s. I know many of us had a lot of them. Never give up.
Yes and we never know which Day 1 will be the one that sticks so keep trying until it's done! I caught a Christmas cold😵 I could not muster the energy to do any of our usual Christmas Eve traditions, just sat on the couch sneezing and watching the kids open a present, grr,I honestly wanted to drink just to get some mojo but really how dumb would that be??? Very! 6:53 am in Vegas another 24,I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and enjoy yourselves, was saying my prayers last night and Christmas is about love, the love for our families, lives and ourselves, let's be happy and give our loved ones big hugs today 💗🎄5 -
Hi Friends, I had a sober holiday season until two night ago. The wolf got me! I am not deterred though. I just re-signed up on the NOMO app. I also got signed up for an online counselor. IT is a hefty fee $200 a month but I can speak to a counselor unlimited for the month. I plan on using the counselor for my alcohol addiction.
I can cancel the counselor at any time. I'm never giving up.
Wishing you a calm few days before NYE. My goal on Jan. 1 is to wakeup sober, no hangover and go for a long walk in the woods. What's your goal?9 -
The counseling website is Betterhelp.com.
I like talking to someone neutral and not a friend. I'll let you know how it works for me and if I like it.
I have been like a bear hibernating these past few days. I think without sun, my energy is zero. I plan on a little workout today. Wishing you peace~4 -
Ruby I've seen ads for those counselors, hope it's helpful for you 💗4

@RubyRed427 Good on you for not giving up...I've been successful giving up the drink (so far), but unfortunately it seems that food is my new alcohol so I absolutely get the struggle...I read about food struggles that a person has to be mentally and emotionally ready to succeed at long term management. I suppose that is true with any addiction/dependence. I hope that you find some solution for you through this counsellor and please share any "aha moments" with us
@Donimfp So happy you had a "weird" time at your Mom's LOL and hope you enjoyed your hangover-free walk.
@Whitpauly Hope you are on the mend!
Hello to ALL ... so glad that the holidays are over for my own reasons that I shall not share here, but I KNOW I am not alone in that relief4 -
Personally glad its over too minus New Years which I dont go out anymore anyway. I have had zero energy too. Xmas is a mental and financial drain for me. I was gifted some booze at a party by someone that knows I dont drink. I looked at it for 2 days on my counter. Im going thru some marital unbliss right now. My husband being a drinker and now me being a non drinker is trying at best.
So it was a close call but I regifted it in the end. Peaceful wishes to all of you.

@aroze0928 YAY on the re-gift. Usually I get several bottles of wine from clients, but 2 who usually do know that I stopped drinking. I let them know a few months back when it came up and so that is a couple less temptations. I had my plan in place to re-gift any received...I still have next week's clients who may gift me wine, but I am not even bringing it in my house. I plan on putting it in my car & driving it to someone. Maybe I won't have to put my plan in action lol....4

@aroze0928 P.S.-sorry you are currently going through some marital "unbliss" Great expression btw!3

Hi All. Peace to all of you that are struggling. It is a tough season. I have not been sober though not fall down drunk either. However I know any alcohol will lead to more alcohol so I want to go back to complete sobriety. The difference in how I am feeling happiness-wise is so obvious when I am sober. My NYE plans are as follows; stay in with my husband, and watch the festivities on tv until I am ready to go to bed which will probably be around 10 as usual. If he drinks, he won't overdo it, he rarely does. Maybe 2 beers. This will not bother me; I am only responsible for me. So like RubyRed, I plan on waking up nice and fresh on New Years Day and go for a long walk, weather permitting. Instead of having a resolution of say, "I want to lose 20 lbs" (I actually do but...) my goal will be to treat my body with respect. Exercise it, eat right, and avoid putting poison into it. The lbs will fall off naturally if I stick to that. I wish you all happiness as we enter a new decade!6

Good morning All!
Yes, @JenT304 Good plans for NYE! I am trying to lose twelve pounds I gained these past few months. I do think hormones have a lot to do with weight when you're in your 50s.
This morning is day 3, and I feel good! I didn't sleep well and woke with a headache, but I still feel good that it's not a hangover. Hooray!
The NOMO app I downloaded is a little temperamental but I like it. It's probably similar to other ones you all have seen. I reconnected with a person I used to text for support (on the app), and he is nearly a year sober. I'm so happy for him. You can view your support partners sobriety clock.
Interesting story: My ex-mother-in law gave a gift to my sister this week. Now, my ex MIL has known my sister for 24 years and also has known her to be a non-drinker. Well, the ex MIL gave my sister a Christmas gift- it was a bottle of WINE! I was shocked. I told my sister I will take that if you don't want it. But my sister kept it.
Made me think of some of you on the thread who were getting bottles as gifts. IT made me reconsider my own gift giving. If you don't know for sure a person drinks, it's probably better to give chocolates not alcohol.

Thank you lorraine
@JenT304. Good insight. I like your plan. Too much pressure to say I want to lose 20 sets up for failure. Im going to go about it the same way and see what happens. Im not drinking but the food has been out of control.
RubyRed its true and it just makes everything that much harder when someone gifts alcohol. But I like what Lorraine said leave it in the car and get rid of it. Not sure why I didn't do that. I think in my subconscious I was going to give it a go and sneak it to take the edge off my problems. Who knows.3 -

When I offered to take my sister's bottle for her.... I was planning on drinking it! It was a natural reaction to seeing wine. I'm happy she kept it. I doubt she'll drink it but if she does, that's her issue. I have my own issues3 -
I don't even wanna say the word hormones @RubyRed I'm not in my 50's yet BUT the latter part of 40's has got me feeling like a grumpy teen again when it comes to woman stuff grrrr, that used to always cause me to wanna drink! The pain, irritating feelings, weepiness, bloat, etc I hate it😒 Jen I hope we all achieve our goals for the new year💗 let's try to keep the thread active! Hope everyone has a wonderful AF day!4

I had a laugh yesterday watching The Kitchen on Food Network. Geoffrey Zakarian was showing how to make ice cubes with "leftover champagne." I thought "Ha ha ha! That's a good one, GZ. LEFTOVER champagne????" Thus, not opening any on NYE this year. Have a great final days of 2019, everyone.7

Just like the meme that circulates on Facebook that says "I still don't know what a wine stopper is for". All too familiar. Happy New Year!! Here's to NO hangovers, a long deep sleep and coffee that tastes good in the morning...5 -
Speaking of weight loss and the usual resolutions around that, I read a blurb somewhere at some point LOL!! I am now in my 60s, as of a few months ago, and I envy those of you in your 50s or nearing in spite of the hormonal fluctuations cause it doesn't get better and I find I have brain fog a lot so remembering specifics of articles is difficult at times....SO, having said ALL that, in the article it was explained that rather than referring to "losing" weight refer to it as "releasing" the weight. Losing can imply finding it again, but releasing refers to letting something GO!! It is along the lines of how self talk generates action, if that makes sense. IF I am remembering correctly cause my memory is also not what it used to be. LOL
Hope you can gain something positive from my comment.
P.S. - @whitpauly I'd take "grumpy" and late 40s any day, although I empathize with the "woman stuff"....THAT I do NOT miss!!!!6
