@pfeiferlindsey I hope your half went well. Looking forward to reading about it.
Nice job on the hilly run on Thursday @WhatMeRunning . I did hills that day too and really "enjoyed" it.
@skippygirlsmom I think you are doing awesome considering your injury. If I recall correctly, when it first happened you were told at least 6 months before running again and look at you now!
It's hard to get back into the routine after vacation @Zoomie402 . You're doing great.
Great to see you @HonuNui ! I was wondering where you have been. Sorry to see that you were sick back in April. Glad you are better. Thanks so much for the tour of your little area of the world. I'm like @Scott6255 - that's probably the only way I'll ever get there. It looks lovely. Sad about the tsunami. I remember that tragedy. Thanks for the Mai Tai!
@Teresa502 You did great in your race! I can't imagine running that one. I also don't see how anyone could run that hill at the paces of the winners. You're pictures are great.

@katharmonic Sorry about the relationship and tough time at work. Sounds like running is helping maintain your sanity. Enjoy your hike. Look forward to the pictures. Nice way to get your HM run in - with various friends joining in for parts of it.
@Avidkeo Hope you feel better!
Nice running @sweetdaisy13 !
You continue to amaze me @AlphaHowls ! Happy 6 year MFP anniversary!
All caught up. I'll post my update and runs for the last 3 days later. Heading out to a picnic at the church I used to attend to welcome their new pastor. After running 7 miles, I can eat guilt free.

So humid this morning. I met a friend for 5 miles at 7:00 am. Afterwards, I walked 2.8 for a cool down although I was still pouring sweat at the end of it. Hiking up to Mt. LeConte in the Smoky Mountains tomorrow, spending the night and hiking back down on Monday. Thanks again to everyone for all the support and kind words on my race! You’re the reason I keep coming here!
@katharmonic – starting any new position at work is always stressful but I know you will settle in and be awesome at it quickly! Hugs on the relationship woes and congrats on the HM today. Can’t wait to hear about your hike!
Hope you are better soon @Avidkeo.
@sweetdaisy13 – you would love the Bear Run!
@AlphaHowls – You are a running machine!
@quilteryoyo – Sorry for the internet woes. Wasn’t that humidity awful this morning? Enjoy the picnic!

MT = 24.0/70 miles running: 10.0/31miles walking
I worked at daycare from 7:30 - 4:30 on Thursday. I got home at 5:30, so went out to do my run at 5:45. It was 77°F with 74% humidity. Thursday's schedule called for Hill Repeats. I was supposed to do 5 minutes zone 1, 5 min zone 2, 6 x (1 min uphill zone 5/2 min recovery zone 1), 5 min zone 1. It was threatening to storm, so ran on my driveway. The hill I normally use isn't long enough for 1 min, so used that hill, slowed for a short flat and downhill portion, then sprinted up the next shorter hill. So, while I didn't follow the plan exactly, I feel I met the intent. Max pace on the last up hill portion was 9:01 min/mile - not sustainable, at all. It felt good to get it done. I noticed on my way back up the driveway today that, had I started at the gate instead of where I did, that first hill could have possibly taken a minute to run up. Don't know why I didn't think about that on Thursday. Also, it was the 6th month anniversary of my open heart surgery, so I ran enough to make 2.6 mile. Thought about 6 miles that morning, but didn't have either the time nor the inclination when I got home.
Yesterday, I had daycare mandatory training from 8:30 - 3:30. Ran some errands and got home at 5. Had planned on a treadmill walk, but decided I really needed at least a little outdoor time, so walked on the driveway instead. According to Garmin, it was 77°F with 83% humidity. Glad I was outside, but it was really humid.
Today, I had planned to get up and out by 7am, but, when I looked at the weather last night, there wasn't going to be much of a difference in the weather at 8 am. I decided I needed the sleep more, so didn't get out until 8:30. It was 73°F with 89% humidity. The run really wasn't too bad, but there wasn't a dry stitch on my clothes when I was finished. So. Much. Sweat.
The scheduled run was 7 miles, easy pace. Like I said, there was a lot of sweat, but I was determined to make it a not horrible run. I wound up stopping twice at mom's to talk a few minutes during the run. The first time she had company I wanted to see/talk to. This is the person who invited us to the picnic, which was really good, btw. I also talked to my neighbor with Alzheimer's who was out on her porch. I walked when I felt like it, stopped to take a few pictures, was glad a couple of times when I needed to stop for a car to pass, but overall, it was an okay run. My average HR was 145, so I'm happy with that.
Things I saw on my run this morning under the spoiler.
I think he thought this was his good side.
Pretty flowers
Close up of the flowers. I'm not sure, but these may be a money plant. If so, they are pretty, but not native and very invasive.
I did notice that both times after I stopped at mom's and started back out, that my HR spiked to around 175/170 then settled down to the 140's after a couple of minutes. Does that happen to anyone else? Do you think it is real or a Garmin glitch?

@Avidkeo Glad you are feeling some better. Don't overdo.2

Life is continuing to kick my *kitten*, but at least I got a run in. Now I am completely failing to do meal prep work and grocery shopping for the next week on my one day off because I chose to do a long run instead, and I’m kind of wondering what everyone else would do if I suddenly had to go to the hospital or something because the whole operation would fall apart, and I am all out of flips to give. Someone, lend me some flips please, I need at least two!
Oh well. The world will not suddenly come to an end if everyone has to eat reheated spaghetti for one day.
Anyway I would say it was a nice run but it was kind of appalling, very hot and humid, even the breeze was hot. I really feel for my friends out west right now with record temperatures, this is not that bad at least! I wanted to get at least 10k running and I think I did, more or less, with enough walking to make 10 miles, which I think is my first tenner of 2021. This has been a kitten of a year for me!
Just running that long and not worrying about trying to make it someplace on time to do stuff for other people felt AMAZING, so much so that even though I feel as if I ought to feel guilty I don’t. We also went out to eat afterwards which we haven’t been allowed to do in a year and a half. First covid and then my mom got sick and I haven’t had more than an hour or so away.
Something’s got to give and today I decided I was tired of that something always being me.13 -
Hugs @rheddmobile ! Glad you got in a long run and decided to take care of yourself. If I could send you a flip, I would, but it doesn't sound like you really need nor want one. I do hope things get better for you soon.1
-
Congratulations on your anniversary @AlphaHowls
Good for you for taking some time for yourself @rheddmobile

I don't have HR on my main data field on my Garmin. I think it's on the 3rd screen and I have to toggle through them to get to it.
I don't tend to take much notice of the HR reading when running, as I understand it's more effective when used in combination with a HR strap (which I don't have).
If you felt your heart racing when you noticed it had increased then I'd get it checked out/keep an eye on it, if you didn't notice any difference in physically how you felt at the time it peaked, I'd take it with a pinch of salt.
Back last year I started to have heart palpitations and my heart rate became very low whilst resting. I went to my doctor and they gave me an ECG (it didn't pick up anything) but they did look at my HR data on my Garmin Connect, because I was able to pin point exactly when I was getting them. After having my blood checked, it tuned out that I had iron deficiency anaemia and a dose of iron tablets sorted things out. I know only need to take an iron tablet once a fortnight.
So I know my Garmin is reliable when not running and I'm resting, I'm just not sure how reliable the HR is whilst running as many top athletes seem to wear HR straps as well at GPS watches.5 -
Just checking in, skimmed posts, hugged and liked as appropriate.
@Teresa502 that race sounds awesome! Great job!
I'm still feeling under the weather, so haven't run except one mile yesterday. It was a double success as 1) I got out the door, and 2) I called it and came home when I realized I wasn't feeling better after all. It's settled in my sinuses now and I feel headachey and tired... and it didn't help that I took some cold medicine Friday afternoon that contained caffeine and it majorly messed up my sleep. Vitamins, fluids, rest...
@Avidkeo hope you feel better soon!
@rheddmobile I'm glad you got to do your long run. You needed it. I'm also running low on flips, so probably shouldn't send you any.
@quilteryoyo maybe I missed this, but did you check your HR manually at those times? Sometimes mine has weird readings, but I typically assume it was a glitch, like cadence-lock or something.
Hey, speaking of that run the world thing, we're about 500k behind pace - should we add another runner or 2?3 -
@sweetdaisy13 I'm glad they figured out what was going on with you. I didn't really feel anything, except that it was hard to get started back. I figured that was just because I had been standing around with little movement too long. I wouldn't have thought too much about it if it hadn't happened again after I had stopped. It did NOT happen when I stopped to talk to my neighbor, but I wasn't there as long. I did not manually check it @polskagirl01 . I started too, but didn't want to stop after just a few steps. LOL If it happens again, I will. Thanks for your input ladies.
@polskagirl01 I hope you feel better soon.3 -

Cloudy, mid 60s F, a few raindrops, and variable winds. Was a little tight at the beginning, but nice and loose at the end. Kinda looking forward to next week's race -- if nothing else, they may mistake me for the ox.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

Not too shabby this morning. Took it easy, running 1/4 of a mile on each mile. Uphill the first 3 miles, and against the wind coming back. 1hr 31min, average pace 15:10. Trying not to get down too much on my pace. It’s dropped significantly! The silver lining…. I’m still above the Disney requirements.8 -
@Zoomie402 great running! Don't worry about your pace. I went from a 10-11 minute mile pace back in 2015-2016 to coming back in 2021 with a 15-16 minute pace for the first few weeks. 4 months later I'm at a 12-13 minute pace. Just for reference if it helps. I'm impatient too!7

No running today. Was up late again (kids) and we were forecasted to have rough storms from 4am through about 8 or 9am. So I slept in.
No storms!
I wouldn't have been OK running on 4 hours sleep anyway though. Oh well.
No, really, I'm cool with it. You know me.
*grumble* * grumble*
I actually am OK with it today. Serously.
Sort of...11 -
17 miles this morning. Power went out overnight, so had to wait for it to come back on so I could make my coffee and oatmeal. So got out a little later than planned. It was cloudy for most of the run, then the sun came out around mile 13. 84F, but only 62% humidity after the rain came through. Didn't have a time limit today, so just kept it slow and easy and let the time pass without concern. Think this is the longest run of the year (so far), and Garmin says it was my fastest 17 miles ever 🤷♂️

@Tramboman Nice run. Glad you are looking forward to your race.
@Zoomie402 Nice running. Hills are hard.
@WhatMeRunning They need a LOL button. Can you run this afternoon instead?
Very nice run @Scott6255 !3 -
@quilteryoyo unfortunately no. I have to help keep the kids corralled and safe while they are up. They're 9 and 11 with severe autism and can easily escape/overwhelm one adult. We spend all waking hours on high alert. And nobody else can handle them, you have to know their cues and behavior very well. It's why they go to special schools with a para/teacher ratio higher than the students (only 3 to 4 per class at that).
My running schedule is either before they wake up, or between them going to school and me going to work.11
