Morning dealings with bureaucracy in the spoiler, if interested.Called the IRS this morning to let them know that they owe me money. I wasn't able to get through to anyone. No matter which number I called or which choice I made, I got the same recording "Due to an extremely high call volume on the topic for which you are calling, we are unable to handle your call at this time." I gave up after 5 tried and called my Representative's local office for help. Unfortunately, in order for her to file an inquiry on my behalf, I have to fill out an electronic form which will take a while to complete. I think I will try to call the IRS again, maybe tomorrow morning, and then if I don't get them, work on the form. Just wasn't in the mood today.
Then, I organized the information I have regarding all I have done to get the VA to increase my cousins Aid & Attendance. The latest letter indicates that at some point, he appointed the VFW as his representative to the VA. I am going to have to find out for sure and then figure out how to revoke it. I called his social worker who gave me a number to call for the VFW. That person is supposed to call me back.
So, while I had a busy morning, I really didn't get a lot accomplished. But, I tried.[\spoiler]
My schedule called for a temp run today. It was supposed to be zone 1/zone 2/zone 3/zone 2/zone 1 for 5/5/15/5/5 minutes. I ran on the treadmill this afternoon so I could control my pace better. I ran the required times at 4.2/4.5/5.0/4.5/4.2 mph, adding enough at the end to get to a good stopping point. My HR was a little off. I was in zone 1 for only 1:27 minutes. I was in zone 2 for 27:33 minutes, and in zone 3 for only 7:01 minutes. Most of that zone 2 was above 147 bpm, so I'm going to say I did okay. I may try going a little bit faster next time I have a similar workout and see what happens. This run did feel pretty easy, once I overcame the desire to take walk breaks.3 -
Humm. When I looked at my original post, the entire thing showed up. Preview showed it missing the last paragraph. Hit edit and it was still there. Hit post reply and it's gone again. So, here is what was supposed to be the last paragraph in the above post. If it shows up twice, pleas forgive me.

Ok, I'm now logged on out there, but says I need a code to join the MFPRunner groups challenge? When I click join nothing happens, but has a box to enter a code. No emails have bern sent with the code.1

@WhatMeRunning I found the original post in the January challenge and the code is MFPRunners20213

Thanks @quilteryoyo I'm in and synched up with Garmin Connect. Not sure how far back it will go in my activities this year, but it showed 6+ miles already. That might just be today's run and walk however (if it counts walk miles)3

Thanks for the support and hugs, guys. I really appreciate it. Feeling a lot more positive about things as this week starts off. Oh, and @tramboman not to worry, supportive drinks were had as well.
@rheddmobile I feel like my complaints are so minor, and I give you all the credit for what you've been going through without stop. I am glad you decided that you are not the thing that has to give all the time. Please take care of yourself and I continue to send all the best hopes for things to ease up for you.
@AlphaHowls oh my goodness. Such impressive mileage and I love that you did that extra to push it over. You are a champion.
@pfeiferlindsey congrats on your half. Getting it done is definitely an achievement in itself.
@skippygirlsmom thank you for the understanding on both the relationship and job fronts. Putting out fires is pretty much the entire job it seems. I hope I'll get into the groove and not feel so over my head with a little time. Funny that we did our July HM on the same day. Your time is really coming down - 13 minutes better is great. And that humidity and heat is rough. I really wanted to get my done Saturday because I was afraid to miss a cooler day. The humidity was still intense though. I just got my July-December medals in the mail today! I'm going to get a rack for them and hang them in my new office I think. My other racks are full and it makes a nice decorative conversation piece.

No run yesterday because I hiked and no run today because I was recovering from that hike (and HM the previous day).
Hike report: Colvin & Blake Mountains, #31 and 32 of the ADK 46 high peaksWell, this weekend was just what I needed to really lift my spirits. After I did my HM on Saturday morning, I took a nap and then packed up my things and drove to the Adirondacks. I had booked a room in a little 12 room inn last minute and I was kind of worried about what it would be like and it turned out to be great. The owners were terrific, and even packed up a breakfast for me to go because I was going to leave too early for their breakfast buffet. They really cater to hikers because it is close to many trailheads so they have no TVs to keep it quiet because everyone gets up early. They also had a fire pit and were right along the river so you could go down and sit right by it. Or in it.
The inn was only about 20 minutes from the trailhead parking so I was able to sleep to a reasonable time. I met up with two new friends to do this hike - I found them in a facebook group for women who are hiking the 46 peaks and want to connect. I was really wanting to hike this weekend because the weather was supposed to be ideal and mentally I could use the getaway, but none of my friends could go, so I took a leap of faith and posted in this group that I just found and came up with two women who wanted to do the same hike. I was of course worried about meeting internet strangers and spending an entire day with them. They didn't know each other either so we were all equally gambling that the other two weren't weird, or murderers . But they turned out to be very cool women, one was 26 and the other 62, and we all seemed to be comfortable at about the same pace and have the same keep moving attitude. And there was so much to talk about, not knowing anything about each other and yet having this shared interest and experiences. The time went fast!
The day itself was pretty perfect. Cool temps on the mountain in the lower 60s I think for a high.It was actually a little chilly to start but I soon got warmed up. It was partly cloudy but the sun came out enough to give great views but not be relentlessly pounding down on you. The entire hike took us 10.5 hours round trip from the parking lot. This hike goes through private resort property so you have to make a parking reservation and then walk this long road through the private property before you get to the trailhead. Then the there is a pretty long hike to get to the summit of Colvin first, which is a beautiful hike and the views are lovely. It got a bit steep toward the summit but much of the beginning was quite gradual and alongside a gorgeous creek with some falls and pools.
We summited Colvin in about 3 hours and then it was time to head over to Blake. The reputation of Blake is not good, people talk about it as their least favorite of all 46 because there is no view to speak of (all trees), very small, and no marker other than a rock and the name carved into a tree. And the hike to get to it from Colvin is challenging. Lots of going down and then back up. There are 3 places where there are ladders you climb up or down because the rock face is too smooth/steep. I actually though the hike to Blake was pretty fun because of the ladders and some rock scrambles that you had to climb. We got to Blake at about 5 hours and 15 minutes in. And then we had to go back the same way we came, because this is and out and back and there is no other route. So all the same challenging trail, but in reverse, and we summitted Colvin for the second time about 7 hours in. We rested and ate again at this summit and then started the long hike out. We really hustled when we got to the lake road that belongs to the resort for about the last 3 miles. It's surprising how mentally tough that road walk is, when it's easy and flat or slightly downhill all the way. You just think you should be DONE though. We finally arrived at the car at 10 hours 20 minutes.
We said goodbye and quickly went our separate ways to go home and rest - but we plan to meet up again for future hikes. I stopped at a diner and had some dinner and got coffee before I drove the 3.5 hours back home, wishing I had stayed at my hotel one more night. But it was not as bad as some I've done because I had great sleep the night before. I got home at 10 pm and showered and went to bed, tired but happy.
A few pics in the spoiler, the river is from behind the hotel and the fire pit from the hotel. The rest from the hike.

I ran 3.1 miles this morning. It was really nice. The weather was not quite perfect, but it was just about as good as it can be for July. I really just needed a mile for the streak, but it was just so nice that I couldn't resist going a little more. I saw a bunch of hummingbirds too. The first one was right outside my door at my sage bush. And then I saw a bunch at the park. They were also visiting sage bushes there.
I'm glad I had a nice run this morning. Work was busy and then I had dinner with my mom and 2 of my sisters. We try to get together once a week. I haven't had a chance to read through the thread yet, but I will.

Nice hiking @katharmonic! Those pictures are really cool!
Way to get the HM done @pfeiferlindsey!
@ContraryMaryMary fartleks are my favorite when I want to do speed work.
Same average pace as Saturday's long run, but today felt much harder. Decided to run the hilly route today in honor of our anniversary, representing all the ups and downs of 36 years 😏. And 7.2 miles because didn't know how else to signify 36 (3.6 x 2) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯

Mostly cloudy, a few raindrops, low 70s F, and a light south wind. Legs decided they were tired at about the 4.5k mark, so cut it to 6k today. I don't know what they're complaining about -- yesterday was a rest day and I took them to the chiropractor this morning.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

@katharmonic you’re welcome, just know you are not alone. Your hike sounds perfect, what a great way to meet new people. How fun and beautiful!! They actually were selling holders for the medals. They are nice but honestly are small for 12 medals with such thick ribbons etc. The holder is here in the spoiler with one of the medals next to it so you can see for size. If you want I can ask Suzanne if she has any left. I have most of mine hanging off my bedroom mirror posts I need to get something. When Skip had her signing day we put some medals around other awards on a table but I brought this for them to hang on the table, but she’s out of space and some are other places ha ha.
@quilteryoyo Skip received her state refund in like 4 days, I’m still waiting since February for mine. Go figure and like you said who wants to call them.
I’m with you @Tramboman hate them Fartleks
Nice recovery run @pfeiferlindsey

I like fartleks Also it's the name of the running club I've been with for the past few months.
Today I got a late start and decided to go to the forest to try to avoid the sun. It was still hot and muggy. 8k felt good, but I made myself stop with that because I'm still not feeling 100% (mostly my sinuses are still stuffed up).July Goal 100 miles (stretch goal 185k)
"40 weeks of 40K" - 28 Weeks DONE! / 16 weeks left to complete the challenge
Upcoming races:

7/9: 2.6 miles
7/12: 3.2 miles
I accidentally skipped a day of posting. I’m still hovering around 3-ish miles a run just trying to get a little acclimated. I am feeling slightly better. It’s hard to say I feel good because the heat/humidity combo always sucks and I’m never going to feel good running in that weather. But I am working towards not hating every second of it.
I signed up for a race kind of spur of the moment. I happened to hear the wine & dine HM for November 2021 wasn’t sold out yet. As I started looking into it, everything just sort of fell into place. I was able to get a day off work, found a hotel, flights worked out. So, I signed up! These races are so much fun! The timeline is hard because it’s almost 2 months earlier than I am usually ready for a HM. So, I have to start training despite the oppressive heat.6 -
@katharmonic Sounds like an amazing weekend. Love the pictures and that you were able to make some new hiking friends.
@kgirlhart Yeah for such a nice run and seeing all of the hummingbirds. They are so fun to watch.
Happy Anniversary @Scott6255 ! Love how your run symbolized your marriage. Great job!
@Tramboman Hope your legs get with the program. They should be grateful, not complain.
@skippygirlsmom It just seems like there is no rhyme or reason.
@polskagirl01 That looks like a really nice place for a shady run. Hope you get back to 100% soon!
@martaindale Heat and humidity are hard to run in. I am hoping that training in these conditions will make my HM in the fall feel easier. Probably not, but I can hope.

I was scheduled to work at the daycare from 10:30 - 3:30 and had an appointment to get my car serviced at 4:00. I knew if I was going to get my run in, I needed to do it this morning. I got up and out the door at 7:40, about 30 minutes later than I had intended to last night. It worked out okay. I ran driveway laps.
Garmin said it was 72°F and 83% humidity (my thermometer showed 68°F). I tried really hard to keep my HR down. I figured I wouldn't be able to keep it in Zone 1, as the plan called for - which is below 128 bpm. So, my goal heading out was to keep it below 143. I actually managed to do that, except for one spot where my HR spiked...probably a Garmin glitch, so I was pleased. I did keep it in Zone 1 for the first 6 minutes.
Despite being soaked with sweat, it was a fairly easy run. I was so glad I made myself get out and get it done.7 -
@skippygirlsmom I had seen that they were selling those and it does look nice, but yes quite small for 12 big medals! I think I'll order something simpler/larger but thank you!3

I ran 5 miles this morning. It was another really pleasant morning for July. I didn't see as many hummingbirds today, but I did see a pretty pair of cardinals. And my friend the donkey. He was in his house when I ran by, but when he saw me he stopped and came out on the porch. Your name suggestions were really good @skippygirlsmom. I also was thinking maybe Sunshine or Sunny.
Your hike looks wonderful @katharmonic. And @polskagirl01 you have such pretty places to run.
Happy Anniversary @scott6255!
I know I am missing a lot, but I do read all the posts and give lots of likes and hugs.

@HonuNui - Happy Anniversary to you too! We were away and I haven't been checking in or posting so I am late.
Love all your pictures and the warm welcome for us to run ashore! Looking forward to a mai tai or 2 😁
I am hundreds of posts behind and will be reading thru to catch up. I did run a couple of times while we were gone but it was really really hot (103-107) the entire time. Will post an update later this week.3 -
I had a lovely run today. The weather was perfect - cold, clear and still - and the run was easy and comfortable. My pace was good, near the top of my aerobic zone, and heart rate pretty much stayed in the right zone, however Garmin tells me the run was unproductive 😂 Just goes to show how little a silly watch knows.
