Had to stop early today due to swiftly approaching thunderstorms! We need the rain so I'll try not to complain too much. The older two have XC tonight so I'm considering going with them and getting a few more miles in. It'll be a lot hotter, but it might motivate them a little!7 -

Cloudy, mid 70s F, and REALLY humid this morning. Reminded me of being back in the South. Had already decided to do 4 k, so went a little quicker today.
Happy birthday, @skippygirlsmom !!! Should have run 2.9.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

Happy Wednesday everyone. Today for me was a cross training day. So as usual I choose to walk the length of a 10K to get my body conditioned for the length of the 10K. Last night Yuma had a dust storm and flash flood warnings and the storms were starting to die down at 3:00. So I didn’t dare drive out there in that mess. So I walked around close to my home so if the storms started up again I could quickly get home. The great thing about the storm it lowered the temperature to be in the 80’s this morning at 3:00 am. I found the temperature agreeable.

Still hot but I got my run in before the heat advisory kicked in at 8am. I really took it easy today. I focused on my stride feeling light and easy. It took me down to a 10:49 min/mile pace, which I held exactly for 3 miles. Super consistent! I have a hard time judging pace and almost solely rely on perceived effort unless I am doing a specific tempo or speed workout that asks for a certain pace so being able to be that consistent was nice.

Thank you all for the awesome birthday wishes, it was a great day (if I don’t include work LOL). I think this is the first year I said WTF how did I get this old, but my life is good and for the most part of very healthy so I’m happy to see 60. It’s the first year in a few that Skip isn’t moving into a dorm on my birthday, so decided to wait until Friday this year.
@rheddmobile I wanted to complain about the heat but 90 feels like even at night is insane. Can’t imagine long pants and sleeves
I walked out the door this morning and was like someone hit me with a wet wall. Cut my run to 3 miles, I just couldn’t by .5 miles the sweat was already in my face.
@swenson19d so much love and hugs for you always. “runs together” I see what you did there. Ha ha next year it’s 4.5 love it or 2.9 as @Tramboman suggested ha ha!
My stupid car is still in shop (day 7) but they were nice enough to send me the estimate, hey I didn’t want to buy the car again just get it fixed…. $2800 naturally it’s out of warranty, so I’m back to those beans and cornbread @quilteryoyo I won’t have it to take Skip to school so I had to rent an SUV, luckily I get our company discount so I don’t have to pay some of the horrifying prices I’ve heard. I have a free day and a free upgrade but neither applies to the SUV, which is actually funny since I take pretty much take any car on the lot for the same price through work. Most of her stuff is in a storage unit down there and if it wasn't for the futon I could probably rent something smaller but was only a couple dollars more for the SUV.

@skippygirlsmom Happy Birthday!!!
Not running todayTaper
But I did buy new pair of black Kalenji (Decathlon) running shorts, same as the ones I already had, although I see this model has a tiny inside key pocket instead of the back zipper pocket. I don't use the pocket much anyway. Maybe I'll do an easy mile tomorrow to try them out.
Monthly questions, although I don't really feel qualified to answer them...
Motivation/discipline/reward:
I guess I am just strongly internally motivated to do things I've decided to do. I know some personalities do better with outside accountability, or sticking to a plan, but for me, it's more reminding myself that this is what I decided to do, and its the right thing for me for health/fitness, stress relief, time alone in nature. I do sometimes have to trick myself to get going, etc, but by now I know I'm going to do it anyway, unless I have a good reason not to... and I know I'll usually feel much better after I run.
I like consistency, so that, and the other things (fitness etc) are the reward. Races are rewards. Getting to run in cool places is a reward, cool gear or a food treat can be a reward, although I don't really think of it as "running to earn" a brownie or whatever.
Stress:
I probably don't handle it well, and tend to hold on to and carry a lot of it around. Maybe that contributes to my crazy when it comes to running. So things like tiredness, headaches, grumpiness occur as a result. Running helps, as does sunlight, nature, alone time, breaking up tasks into smaller, manageable pieces, saying "no" to extra work, etc.
Olympics:
In my childhood, I wanted to be a figure skater, like most of the other girls my age. Now, I look up to the "G.O.A.T"s like Biles and Kipchoge, who are really in a class of their own and making their own decisions, rather than reacting to what everyone else thinks they should do.7 -
An easy 6 miles this morning. I decided to take short walk breaks every mile while I sip water. It was warm and really humid for Phoenix. I kept getting gnats stuck to me and my watch was spinning around my wrist. LOL It was like 80 degrees (woo!) and almost 80% humidity (boo!).

My friend made the argument to me that we should skip going to HM/marathon group tonight for speedwork because a) it's supposed to be a 40-minute tempo run and b) it's supposed to be 90 degrees. SOLD! So we ran at 7 am instead. Still massively humid at that hour but I'm sure much better than going to the track tonight.6 -
You guys, I finally had a doctor (allergist) tell me I shouldn't be running - does this make me a real runner now? 😁
Note: I will still be running, and we all know it - including the doctor, who had her say but then made the treatment plan with me still running6 -
@polskagirl01 that silly doctor. Skip will tell you a doctor's kiss of death with me is telling me I can't run, I find another doctor who is more interested in me and what I need to do that will find ways to help me.5

Yes. It's a new doctor for me, and she started on this after only hearing that I "run regularly" and have been having issues "lately". All of my previous doctors, who knew me better, were very supportive. After I used the word "marathons", I think she sensed my crazy and still had to finish her emphatic speech, but then gave me what I was asking for - treatment to help me live the active running life I choose.6 -

My neighbor and I took my mom on a little semi-local adventure today. We went to the Gray Fossil site and museum, about an hour from home. It is an active archeology site that was only discovered in the year 2000 during some road work. It's interesting to see the fossils of animals I didn't realize were in this area - like a species of camel and elephant. Afterwards, we had lunch at Cheddar's and then spent a lot of the afternoon shopping. I talked them into Fleet Feet where I bought a new sports bra and a new pair of shoes. Pictures tomorrow, if I don't forget and I have time.
Anyway, we got home at 4:40 and mom and I needed to leave t 5:30 for church. So, I came home, changed clothes, and went for a quick mile (3.9 mph) walk on the treadmill, so I wouldn't sweat. I then changed and was off again. At least I did something today - plan had called for a Foundation Run or cross training. I'll count this as XT.6 -

Golf today instead of running. It's low 70s F and icky, so running will not be missed.

Happy Thursday 😁 Today was a 30 minute run with 6 minutes cadence drill and 4 minutes acceleration and gliders. My top hr was 162 bpm which has come down from the 180 bpm. So I think my body is getting conditioned to running. I started running and after awhile I checked my pace and I was in the 10:00 so I slowed down so I could last the whole 30 minutes without stopping. I did it. My mind was telling me at first saying at certain points you can stop but I pushed past that and continued running. I feel really good about it. If it wasn’t for my music motivating me along to keep moving I don’t think I could do it. The music helps to push back the I can’ts. I listen to Christian contemporary techno music. Yes Christian music even has techno.

I didn’t get out in time to see any of the meteor showers this morning although it was still dark when I headed out the door at 6:00 am. I was treated to a beautiful pink sky and sunrise though as I shuffled along. When I got back home I drug out my yoga mat and did a 30-minute video on the porch before it gets too hot to be outside.
Way to advocate for you, your health and your sanity @polskagirl01!
@katharmonic – wise decision to run in the cooler morning instead of evening.
@quilteryoyo – I’ve never been to the Gray fossil site although I went to a wii bowling fundraiser a few years back that was held inside one of their buildings. I think the Gray fair is in a couple of weeks. I always loved going to that as a teen and still enjoy walking around to see all the entries and displays.
Way to push through the run @julieannegannon! Did I read some place that you run at 3:00 am? I listen to Christian contemporary music often but have never heard the techno version!
