I'm sure there's no calories in birthday cake!
My darling granddaughter's first birthday. It's a very privileged and joyful position being a grandparent.11 -

What a cutie. Grandchildren are such a gift from God.2

Checking in : My doctor told me I have high cholesterol and I'm low on Vitamin D. So I'm cutting down on bad fat and I'm using good fat but less of them now. I have to do more exercise and I need to get out more in the sun too.@jem594 , welcome and thanks for the fat joke ! 🤣4

Get a lot of good ideas from Fitness Pal, read a really good book by Dr .Atul Gawande on eldercare and aging somebody had recommeneded, and bought a hand operated milk frother for skim milk for my coffee, just from looking at posts on this site. Fitness Pal is generally encouraging and a good place to find all kinds of ideas. Have been a member since 2016, weight sometimes up and sometimes down, pretty much like life with its ups and downs, acceptance of this comes more easily in one's sixties than at younger ages. Not in any particular rush anymore. I appreciate this community.4

Just curious I have a friend (not on here) who has lost 40 lbs and swears it's the Apple cider vinegar she drinks every night. Claims she drops a pound a day. I finally succumbed and tried it a few days and all I got was a stomachache. I know there is no quick fix but an experiment non the less. Any one ever tried this? Guess I will stick to my Elmm diet Eat Less Move More. Know it works, maybe slow but steady.3

Apple Cider Vinegar for weight loss or any other medical miracle cure is bunkum. Ancient bunkum.

Here’s how I think apple cider vinegar works. When you remember to take it every day, it is a reminder you are trying to lose weight, so you need to eat less and move more. Maybe you could find a more pleasant reminder.
Another way it might help. If you drink it when you’re normally craving cake and ice cream, you’ll get such a bad taste in your mouth, you may completely forget about the cake and ice cream.6 -
Good point of view regarding Apple cider vinegar. I thought it might be that my stomach was so upset I couldn't eat for two days. Lol1

I drink ACV daily (for reasons unrelated to weight loss, and somewhat speculative).
During weight loss, I drank it for weeks at a time, then stopped for many weeks (due to another health issue, not caused by ACV, but symptoms of which were aggravated by it).
I calorie counted through weeks of daily ACV, then weeks of no ACV. Same calorie goals, same eating patterns, same exercise.
Zero difference in weight loss rate, with or without ACV.
ACV doesn't give me a stomachache or any other bad effects (except during that time when there was another problem it aggravated). In fact, I quite like it.
If ACV gives your friend a stomachache - or makes her feel full or something - maybe it makes her eat less.
Studies of the question have mixed results. Most IMU show no effect. A few show a tiny effect (at most).
Way not worth it, if it gives you a stomachache. Personally, I wouldn't drink it if I didn't like it, but I do.5 -

Apple Cider Vinegar does contain vitamin C and I think B vitamins?
And if you like it there’s no harm in drinking some.
But it’s not medicine. And if it gives you a stomach ache it’s probably best to avoid it.
Get your vitamins elsewhere.1 -
I like the idea of the Elmm diet, lol. Gives it a “fancy” name.3

Hi ladies. I've been reading comments here but this is my first time asking a question. I'm 60 yrs old. I've lost 75lbs and I am feeling incredible! I'm down to 144lbs and a size 10 is a little to big but I can't imagine actually wearing a an 8 so I don't even try. My question has to do with a small battle that I am having with myself. I feel attractive again but my head is saying at 60 you should not be dressing to show it. Anyone else going through this? Or have opinions, suggestions or just comments? 60 year old women can still look hot, can't they? And FYI, I am not talking trashy hot.... Just classy hot. 😏4

How old is Cher?
How old is Dolly?
They both look great.
You do you. Don’t let anyone put the brakes on. Not even yourself.8 -

IMO, at our age (I'm 65) we've earned the right to dress in the ways we enjoy. Those who'd tut-tut can keep their opinions to themselves. 😉
Even if we're talking "eyes of the world" rather than our own eyes, age is IMO a poor yardstick. I know some women our age who can rock an outfit better than some other women decades younger could wear the same thing. I say, if you put it on, and you think it looks great, you should feel great, and wear it with pride.
I do dress differently at 125 pounds than I did at 183 pounds, though not *dramatically* differently. In my case, any chance of looking conventionally hot is at odds with my (cheerful) choice not to have reconstruction after bilateral mastectomy, among other odd personal traits. However, I'm now wearing tank tops in public more often despite that, because I think my arms and shoulders look decent, so why not? With weight loss, I also developed a taste for wearing lace overshirts, which is new; and will wear shorts or a skort more often than I used to. This, even though I'm not a fashion-y gal, generally.
🤷♀️
If you like it, wear it: That's what I think.4 -

I just kind of lurk around here, but thought I'd pipe up for this one. @NC_Girl, you wear what makes you feel good about yourself. If that's mom jeans and an extra large tee, wear it. If it's skinny jeans and a tank top, go for it. If it's a simple or sexy dress, flaunt it. If *you* feel good, you'll look fabulous no matter what you're wearing.8 -
Hey check this out!

Hi Everybody. My name is Kat, and I joined MFP to keep track of my calories. I've never counted calories before, but I'm counting everyday and today is day 11. So far I'm finding it easy to stay under my calorie goal of 1200 per day. If I get hungry between meals, I just drink more water. I want to lose 55 pounds. I'm 61 with Rheumatoid Arthritis so I can't exercise very much. I count my steps daily. I just joined a weight loss challenge and I'm really looking forward to it. Since I've started my weight loss journey I've lost 30.5 pounds. I can do this!! I want to feel and look better.10

I just joined and am I glad to see this group! I'm 68 and need to lose at least 50 pounds for my health! Giving it a good try AGAIN, and looking for help and support to stick with it, AGAIN!6

Hey everyone have a great day!3

Hello everyone, this is my 3rd or 4th go around with MFP. I'm 62 and type 2 diabetic. I've never really had any success losing weight by trying to cut calories or increase exercise. I guess I'm too much of a food lover and I'm lazy. Right now my goal is to lose 15 pounds (I don't feel like the first 5 -10 pounds count because its probably water weight) if I can do that then I'll set a new goal. This is day 5 and I have not been able to stay under my limit of 1660 calories yet. I hope you all have success today!7

Welcome to all the new folks in this group!
@anawake13 - Love your ELMM diet acronym. Very simple but it works!
@NC_Girl - Wear what makes you feel good. No one else's opinion is important in this regard.
Got away to Seattle last weekend. Slept for ten uninterrupted hours Friday night. Went to the Museum of Flight on Saturday - I'm a geek for airplanes and helicopters - really enjoyed my time there. Was very relaxed and well rested when I got home Sunday.
Very up and down with my wife and her health issues. She seems to feel better during this chemo break, but she is still difficult at times. She's not doing any exercise beyond walking from the bed to the recliner. She does not like being required to take pain meds on a schedule. I'm frustrated with the entire situation. Another visit with the oncologist tomorrow. Fingers crossed for good news!
I'm logging my weight and food every day . Dropping weight slowly so that's good.
Hang in there, my friends.11
