Good Morn This is off topic and I do not want to create a heated debate due to the emotional component of the subject. This is just a fact-finding mission on my part. I'm wondering what the Covid climate is in varying parts of the world. I know what mainstream media says, but am skeptical about how accurate their reports are. I'm wondering what your personal experiences have been through this....I know this is a fearful time due to the uncertainty & conflicting information and I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone.
Hope everyone is well4 -
Phew ! 😥
That was close 😳
Had thoughts of a bottle of wine AND cigarettes for tonight. (Tough day at work).
Oh my. The thought of it felt good. FOR A FEW MINUTES.
And THANK GOODNESS I remembered why I decided to stop drinking / smoking. I decided I'm not flinging it all away, cos of one stinking day at work. I'm not letting it beat me !! I went to the gym after work instead and ran it off. Feel a lot better now.
Thanks for all the support on here 🙏 🙌 ❤
Bravo! You beat the craving!2 -
@lorrainequiche59 In the county I live in in Maryland, most people that are over 12 have gotten the vaccine. Masks are required, jabbed or not, indoors and everyone complies. Thus, our infection rates are low. However other nearby counties do not require masks and their rates are higher. I am glad to live in a place that follows the science.5

@BeIn2day I agree about not wanting to spend the morning anxiety ridden and nauseous. Yuck. I'm going to a birthday brunch today....6 of us in the family have September birthdays. I'm sure to eat too many delightful things but will not indulge in the mimosas and wine.4

Went to the library to get some books. I found one that I wanted to sign out... called "Mastering the Addicted Brain " by Walter Ling. When I went to the self checkout all my books checked out fine, except this one. It beeped when I put it under the barcode scanner and the screen said "give this to librarian to fix". I was so embarrassed that I walked it over to the worker and he had to fix it. I felt like he knew that I am addicted now. LOL
The book was short and quick.
Here are some nuggets:
1. Once triggered, the drug memories are rehearsed and reenacted. So the memories become present as if they are being lived.
2. Someone becomes addicted because of the drug effects, but the person stays addicted because they remember those effects with a changed brain.
3. One misunderstanding is the believe that cravings occur because the addict cannot get drugs. Actually, the addict craves drugs when he/she knows they CAN get them.
That's all for now! Have a great day!4 -
RubyRed that sounds like a good book. I would like to read that. And btw no need to feel embarrassed. People check out all kinds of books for different reasons. You could have been doing research, or have a relative you thought that kind of book could help or whatever. I am sure the librarian has seen every subject under the sun checked out. Don't worry about that.
Im mad at myself. I had some red wine yesterday afternoon and my liver actually hurts today. I am no spring chicken and I have got to get my act together once and for all. Alcohol can and does kill people and I need to remember that I'm no exception to possibly being one of them. Back in the saddle today.5 -

@BeIn2day ~ I agree, "Sober IS better" AND today is a new day!! It's all part of the journey and remember to repeat these words to yourself when you begin the boxing match in your head, "I am EXACTLY where I need to be right now!!" It helps me to reset to the present and the blessings of being me...remember the blessings of being YOU!! No more ~ No less5

Amazing news: my cousin who has been binging and off course for the last year is 6 days sober.
He binged last weekend. And This past Tuesday, his wife and I took him out for dinner for his 50th birthday. We all ordered WATER. All three of us didn't drink a drop. I didn't want to say anything to him about him not drinking on his birthday but he did say to me "I'm giving myself the best gift."
I took that to be sobriety!
His wife and I bought him Manchester United lego set ; I think that was a perfect gift in hindsight. He sent me a picture today of the stadium all finished. I think he had a sober week and the lego set was just the thing to keep him occupied.

Hi 👋
I had a drink on Friday night after work. I totally get it when they say "relapse happens way before you take a drink. It happens in your mind first."
I knew I was going to drink. But I'm not being hard on myself. Just getting back on the wagon.
Some good things that came of it ~
I was quick to realise I just don't have the same level of excitement before drinking. I wasn't really looking forward to it. I felt like it was just more out of habit than anything else.
I didn't actually get much enjoyment from drinking the alcohol. It just doesn't taste nice. I was drinking to become intoxicated. Not for the taste.
I hated the stinking hangover.
I realise I could have had a much more productive weekend and done something else that didn't involve a single drop of alcohol to make myself feel better.
Sober is better ! 😌
Just caught up with your post. Ahh the hangover is such a bummer.
Back on track though!

I am 55 days sober and struggling. Wanting to drink for the last 3 days due to some $#!++¥ news…. But fighting thru.
I want that 60 day chip!!!!9 -
@Beka3695 You can do this. If you need a boost, watch some of the sober school blogs. Kate makes so much sense. thesoberschool.com then click on Kate's blog.

@Bein2day. Hugs to you. We all know how you feel. I am going to a college sorority reunion in Florida tomorrow for a long weekend and I am looking forward and dreading it at the same time. The temptations are going to be high...we were hard partying girls in college. I want to keep that wine witch at bay because I know I can't moderate. My plan is to stick with NA beers and hope no one pressures me or I feel so much like a dork I cave. I can tell you right now that if I embarrass myself at this once in a lifetime event, it will not have been worth it.4

Hi, I'm looking to give up alcohol for a month or two. At least for now. It's become one of those things that's only very slightly more fun than being sober, and has far too many negatives that come with it.
I also don't smoke daily, but when I drink I lose control with the cigarettes, and my throat is so destroyed the next day because of it that I feel so stupid for having done something that gave me a mini buzz for 2 mins at best. It just feels so right at this point to say no and finally feel free in some way that I didn't even know waa imprisoning me before.5 -

The same happens to me with the cigarettes. I really hate smoking & how it makes me feel. Another great reason for me to steer clear of the ethanol !! (Buying cigarettes is SO expensive, as well. Here in UK it's like £10 per pack).
That's crazy expensive! I only ever bum cigarettes from whoever I'm drinking with, but £10 would probably make me do a quadruple take.
Here cigarettes are really cheap and you can also buy them loose instead of buying whole packs. Luckily even the smell of someone else smoking has started putting me off.2 -
Good morning friends!
Moderation... what's that? I just can't. If I am lucky to moderate one day, the next time usually is a disaster.
I think it is incredible difficult to build AF momentum after you drink. I was 9 mos. sober , drank in June and have drank ever since. Just can't log more than a few days together sober.
Sigh....5 -
@Beka3695 Keep that momentum going, because if you drink, you'll find nothing has changed. You will be back at square one.
So proud of you!!! Keep it up, friend~4 -
@BeIn2day HA! The hangover movie is so funny! That gif is great! He is missing a tooth in that scene.

Best wishes. Get some AF book to motivate, watch videos, journal... But ultimately take it one day at a time.
Lately, wine gives me a sore throat the next day. So, I can see how cigarettes do that to yours.3 -
Progress confirmed! Keep earning those chips!!!11 -
I've been sober for about 5.5 years ⭐
