Yeah learning to live with endemic Covid is going to be interesting. I have been home sick all week with a bad cold/flu (not Covid) - I need to go back into the office next week but I have a really bad cough which experience tells me will probably linger for a while. Not sure what to do - post viral cough can linger for weeks - and I can't stay home that long.
I do think we are going to have to stop relying on symptoms. They've mentioned on TWIV that it seems clear vaccinated people are only contagious for a short time, if at all. They even think the initial 2 week quarantine for unvaxxed positive tests is probably more than necessary. But better access to cheaper tests would sure help too.
And as someone whose been about as cautious about covid as anyone, I don't think twice about hearing someone in the office coughing. I'm vaccinated and they aren't coughing in my face, so I'm not too concerned.
Does your work have rules about employees with symptoms? Can you get tested to be sure?
Regardless, hope you feel well soon!
My work is kind of ridiculous in this regard. One of my employees has had to stay out of the office since last Thursday. She has had a negative COVID test and also a doctors note stating that she has seasonal allergies and the symptoms are X, Y, and Z. Those symptoms happen to mirror some of the COVID symptoms so regardless of the negative test and the doctors note and she is vaxed, she cannot return to the office until she is symptom free for 72 hours. I don't know anyone with seasonal allergies who is symptom free during their allergy season...at this rate she could be home into perpetuity. They need to change this policy if in fact we're going to move forward...you can't keep people home if a virus is going to be endemic just because the symptoms are similar...especially if it's documented that it isn't COVID as per a test and an actual doctors note.
She called me yesterday to tell me she's going to just go on vacation for a week to Michigan since her allergies aren't going away and she can't come to the office.16 -
Had Pfizer #3 today, now eagerly anticipating my transmogrification into a government-controlled zombie robot (GCZR) 🤖. Can anyone give me a timeline on that, from experience? Some people I know say that the fact I got #3 (well #1-2, anyway) shows I'm already a GCZR, but I was thinking it would feel different. So confusing! 🤣
But seriously:
It was interesting to see the small ways that the drive-through vax center (in an old indoor auto care site) has changed since March. Less regimentation, less traffic-directing, less traffic, shorter lines, no obvious National Guard participation, and more. The post-vax monitoring was mostly just an employee checking in to say we could self-time when to leave, and what to look out for symptom-wise. Just one staff person periodically walking to the newer cars in line to explain that, mostly, rather than a more attentive continuing patrol by a couple of folks back in March, and a back then a need to wait until flagged as OK to leave.
So far, no side effects. Woman who gave me the injection said most people seem to get side effects similar to the previous shot, if that - extra symptoms rare.18 -

I entered and so did some others I told but we were already all vax'd ages ago so it's just a bonus if we win anything. It's actually over 4 million. 1 million is the major prize at the end but lots of smaller ones before then every day I believe. I do hope it helps to get more vaccinations. It's not good enough here if we do ever get an outbreak. My city never had it spread in the community still ever. We are wearing mask for two weeks though as we had someone here with it fly in but so far in over a week all is good still. He was double vaccinated so looks like we dodged another bullet.9 -

It's a shame, since in the US the lower income population makes up a large unvaxed demographic.
The mandate for companies with over 100 employees was done via OSHA, which does not cover welfare recipients.
The federal employee mandate was issued via executive order, applying only to the executive branch, which is why Congress, the legislative branch, is not subject to Presidential order either.
There are initiatives to reach the groups who are unvaccinated but willing.11 -
Well, my arrogant, conspiracy-theoried, anti-vax family ended up getting Covid. The preventative Ivermectin treatments they've been bragging about taking for months now failed to stop infection and failed to cure. Just found out my mom is in the hospital with Covid pneumonia. She's been sick for 10 days, and really bad for half that time, but they were too stubborn and proud to go in sooner. Nobody had the guts to tell me earlier - probably because of the disdain they showed me when I got vaxxed and received that evil microchip. Hoping for the best possible outcome. And yes, I'm pissed off!36

@jenilla1 -- I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish her and you the best. That's sad to hear and I can't blame you being mad either.9

To me, it kind of feels like the executive branch is looking for pretty much any existing regulatory authority they have, that can be used to require vaccination or give a strong push to the unvaxinated hesitant.
Even if they have some relevant authority, I don't think welfare/SNAP would be the first go-to, simply because of how it would be received to make children's food/housing security dependent on the parents' vax status, in effect.11 -

Me too! And they are still sticking to their talking points, even now. I'm still the crazy one. But honestly, I'm willing to just let it all go, let them believe what they want, let them rant and rave, go along with it, whatever...just so long as everyone makes it. I don't care if anyone "learns their lesson" or "has a change of heart" or whatever. Just survive it and let's move on from this please! Political beliefs are not worth dying for. Ugh. So tired of this.25 -

Covid becoming a political issue was one of the worst things that has ever happened in the United States,13 -

I've read stories about people turning against health care workers, committing acts of violence and vandalism, because they're seen as perpetuating the "myth" of Covid. Also accusations of nurses killing Covid patients to pad the death count. It all just looks so insane. Especially when there is no longer any need for so many people to be seriously ill if they'd just get vaccinated.

@jenilla1 I hope your mom recovers.
I got my booster for Pfizer on the first possible day (local center had closed due to lack of demand, just reopened for boosters). After a very bad 24 hrs I feel fine now. But the third shot did give me a worse reaction than either of the first two, chills, high heart rate, just generally feeling awful, and arm so sore I couldn’t lift it. Fine now though. And considering my age and diabetes I am very grateful to have the shot!
My mom’s caretaker is not at all careful. She claims she is, but she also has a large group of people she hugs at church on the regular, she hangs out with a niece who goes to public school and sports events, she shops all the time, and sees more people in a day than I have been close to in the last year and a half. So chances are good I will end up exposed to Covid. I will take all the protection I can get.19 -

It is sad but typically that demographic in the USA is underserved when it comes to physical and mental health issues.
Sadly in my 6 state region this demographic seems suceptable to social media and local fear factors that are band MFP subjects.3 -
My partner got his Pfizer booster Friday and was slammed with fatigue for about 12 hours Saturday. His arm was sore to the touch. I think he had more soreness and a little less fatigue with the previous two shots.
My mom had Moderna, which I understand from a conversation (have not fact checked) lasts longer and the booster is not needed as soon as for Pfizer (?)4 -

The CDC is saying that Moderna is holding up a little better than Pfizer. They have not yet approved the booster for Moderna, so only people who got Pfizer are currently eligible. They are telling people who got Moderna or J&J to not worry right now, and boosters will be approved at some point.
I got my booster yesterday morning. Feeling okay today, I came into work. My arm is very sore and I have a slight headache, but nothing that Advil and coffee can't help. We'll see as the day goes on.10 -
I mentioned getting Pfizer #3, but right after I got it.
Effects over the next day or two: Maybe a little more tired than I'd usually expect from other stuff I was doing or not doing (but maybe I was just paying more attention?). Slightly sore arm for a couple of days, like I could feel it if I laid in bed on that side, but it didn't hurt enough to need to lay on another side.
No big deal. Same, maybe a little less effect than, Pfizer #2.10 -
While I'm waiting for my booster to be approved (J&J), I got my flu shot at the VA last week. PSA: Tis the season...8

Yes on Moderna. Each shot is 100 mg whereas Pfizer is 30 mg each. Israel was a pure Pfizer nation hence a massive data source. I think mg is the correct unit of measurement. When Moderna booster is needed their CEO said it may be just 50 mg.2 -

Why was this flagged for abuse?
I haven't heard anything about when Moderna boosters will be available.4 -

People are weird. Shrug.9 -
Just want to share a personal experience with Covid and the vaccine:
I’m 28, F, healthy BMI, active and generally healthy. I had Covid in January, 2021…I was pretty sick for 1-2 weeks but definitely didn’t need medical attention. I’ve felt sicker before. (Some symptoms were weird though, it was definitely a rollercoaster of sorts where one symptom would resolve and another would begin. Also, 9 months later my taste/smell are still NOT the same). Recovered fine (I thought).
Once I was able to (April 2021) I received my first dose of Moderna. I was SUPER SICK for a day or two, like at least as sick as I felt when I had Covid if not worse. I was surprised (my logic had been that since I’d had Covid already the vaccine wouldn’t really have any symptoms; apparently the opposite is true). But I felt better after after a few days.
In May I had the second shot…again felt terrible but it passed much more quickly this time.
However, not long after getting the second vaccine I started having some symptoms that were kind of concerning. My heart would start pounding to the point where I felt like I was going to blackout, and I’d get dizzy and need to put my head down. These symptoms have progressed to where I’d wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and pounding, with actual pain in my chest. Needless to say I’ve now stopped drinking almost all caffeine (prior to this I used to be able to drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day with no negative effects). If I have just a cup I feel like I might have an actual heart attack. So I’m honestly very concerned.
It’s would be impossible to say at this point whether this is due to having had Covid, or the vaccine, or some combination of both… but I just want to share this because beforehand I was very frustrated with the “vaccine hesitant,” but honestly now that on a daily basis I feel like my heart might arrest I think I’ve changed positions and am a little more understanding of those who are still a little hesitant (due to health concerns, not political reasons, etc.)
Anyway I’ve been following this thread for awhile and just wanted to share a personal
account. I’m trying to get an appointment with a GP so I can get this checked out asap.22 -

You haven’t misunderstood 🙂 In trying to make a long story short, I didn’t mention that my doctor has been on a leave of absence for several months. I’ve spent years looking for what I would consider a good doctor in my area so was really hoping to see her. But anyway, the office scheduled me with another doctor, who tends to emphasize mental health (which is not a bad thing, unless there are actual physical problems creating symptoms). She referred me to counseling and a neurologist…..so now I’m trying to get in with a doctor that will refer me to a cardiologist (I would assume this would be the specialist who would deal with these issues).
I also tend to have the mentality of “it’s nothing, you don’t need to see a doctor.” I was raised in that sort of environment. So it’s taken me some time to get to the point of being alarmed, especially since the symptoms haven’t cleared up yet.
ETA: I placed a lot of emphasis on the dizziness, and also have a history of migraines so the neurologist referral wasn’t totally out of left field, just not the one I think I needed. I admittedly need to be a better advocate for myself when it comes to doctor’s appointments.13 -

You are very young, but my husband went to work one afternoon in late May. He’d been having chest pains, and trouble breathing. His coworkers took him to the hospital. We had our 2nd Moderna shot in April. Turns out, he had developed blood clots in his left knee area that traveled to his lungs. The doctor didn’t come right out and say the vaccine caused it, but the very fact that he asked is concerning. He asked right after he asked him if there was any family history of blood clots, and no there isn’t. He’s got (had, he retired 2 weeks ago) a very active job, and isn’t sedentary, so another no for reason for blood clots. BTW, he was seen by a cardiologist first. When they determined his heart was fine, the hematologist took over.
My daughter had covid too. She was diagnosed 3/29/21. Her taste and smell haven’t returned yet either. She’s a runner, and her lung capacity isn’t what it was pre-covid.
Wise of you to get it checked out by your GP. You absolutely have to be your own best advocate. Hopefully they will be thorough, and because you are so young, not overlook anything. Covid is such an unknown. Best wishes for you❤️13 -

Not an expert on heart problems as such, but I *am* an expert on waking up in the middle of the night with weird heart problems wondering if I should go to the ER! Waking up in the middle of the night makes me wonder about sleep apnea, particularly if you are overweight (I don’t know if you are, but since you’re on these forums it seems like a possibility.) Another cause of palpitations, chest pain, and night sweats is anemia.
One other possible issue which is known to be caused by Covid, and rarely by the vaccine, is myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart. Myocarditis is ruled out by bloodwork. If your doctor didn’t do blood work to check on heart inflammation, ask why they think this isn’t a possibility. My rule with doctors is never to tell them what I have, but to say, “Can you explain why you have ruled out X?”
You shouldn’t need a cardio as a first step, there are clear blood markers which show whether or not your heart is inflamed. A regular GP should have done full labs as a first step. If you didn’t get a full work up demand one.10 -

My mom had Moderna, which I understand from a conversation (have not fact checked) lasts longer and the booster is not needed as soon as for Pfizer (?)
Why was this flagged for abuse?
I haven't heard anything about when Moderna boosters will be available.
Maybe they thought it was an ad for Moderna. Which would be a pretty weird thing to think, but it's all I have other than what snowflake said.
Anyway, I believe that you are right about Moderna, kshama, although I don't know the specific numbers.6 -

Anyway I’ve been following this thread for awhile and just wanted to share a personal
account. I’m trying to get an appointment with a GP so I can get this checked out asap.
You started to experience these additional symptoms in May or not long after? But is is only now you want it checked out ASAP? Or did I misunderstand?

Best wishes for you❤️
Oh no, that must have been scary. I hope your husband and daughter are getting better every day. I’m definitely going to be sure this is thoroughly checked out. I got an appointment tomorrow with a different doctor. Thank you!!4 -

This is interesting. I’m at a healthy BMI (on these forums trying to stay there). I am being treated and monitored for low iron, which seems to be resolved/stable since I get this checked pretty regularly. But always worth mentioning again I guess.
The reason I’d guessed these symptoms could be related to Covid and/or the vaccine is because the onset of these newest (and the severity tbh) began in the spring, after I’d already had Covid and both shots. Prior to that I felt fine.
You’ve given great advice on how I can approach this doctor’s appt, I appreciate it!7
