Trying to come up with ideas for Christmas for people we don't see very often. :( Three kids, ages hmmm, maybe 11, 13, and 18. Maybe a family gift basket? Games, puzzle, foods,???? DH says just give them each an amazon gift card for 25 bucks. What to do what to do.......

Didn't have this challenge last year. :)

    Kids always like gift cards,
I always love to get a gift basket of different kinds of yummies.
Fruit, cookies, or a basket of household necessities.
    It really is the thought…….😊🌻

    Thank you @honey_honey12. :)
This all changed after I posted anyways. We won't be seeing this family on Christmas after all. Nobody's vaccinated and we didn't feel comfortable exposing others. Maybe petty but then I thought about our 40 yo ds who has diabetes, the elderly people in our lives and the fact that my niece works with patients every single day. With #'s being what they are locally, we just couldn't risk it. :( Sad but true.

A vegan restaurant called Kale My Name (apparently this is an expansion from Chicago) is opening up in my neighborhood(ish) and every time I walk by it I think, "Eh, you could do better".

I am not cut out to care for the elderly. :( It is affecting my mindset more than anything else ever has. :(

I wouldn't be able to do it. My heart would be in empathy overdrive. I don't blame you. *hugs*

Sooooo food haul at work today:

Huge *kitten* basket of various stuff from Costco. I ate some of the kettle corn and pilfered the madeleine's, hot cocoa candies (not sure what those are but they sounded good), some thin chocolate cookies, some kind of candy bar that sounds like it's close to a twix, chocolate covered caramels, and european sugar cookies. (Damn I took a lot...but honestly, no one else eats this stuff anyway.)

    Homemade brownies. I ate 2.

A huge *kitten* (probably) roast beef sandwich from Jersey Mike's which is going home with me and may or may not go to a bus stop bench for a homeless person if I can find some willpower. Their bread is really good. :)

    Edited to add: It's turkey.

    I HAVE NO WILL POWER!!!!!

Last night his dd asked if I'd be available from 7-7. Oh my. I told her no and felt I let her down so bad. :( She's trying so hard to fill in bits of time and it's almost impossible. I told her 11-7 or something like that. She's just such a sweet kind woman and it's all on her shoulders right now. I want to help but just do not have a 12 hour shift within my capabilities.

I helped with my parents and my BIL. It's just.....getting to me.

100% this. I finished my shopping mid-November (before Black Friday). Now I get to kick back and wait for them to trickle in and wrap them as I go. No having to rush around, dealing with stupid people or stupid traffic in this horrible black hole city of traffic and injury lawsuits.

I didn’t use Amazon but I bought all my gifts online and they’ve all been delivered.
    Only one order screwed up.
The boxes though, crap on a cracker, so many boxes to break down. 🤨

Depends on the person, really: I would much rather get gift cards than kitsch crap or items I can't use or will probably send to a thrift store in January.
My parents at are at the point in their lives where they prefer gift cards because they have too much stuff and don't need/want anything else, however, they still appreciate well-thought out gifts for things they like or use.
Myself, I'd prefer gift cards to useless crap, but.. I am always open to soaps, candles, skeins of yarn, crafting supplies and books so there are plenty of non-expensive things people can shop for if they don't want to do gift cards.
I do enjoy "the hunt" of finding something special for people I know, but I still default to gift cards to restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops to give those I care about an "experience" they can share, particularly for my parents.
And for those of us who live thousands of miles away from our gift recipients, it saves on postage to send smaller, but useful items. So I guess it really just depends on who you are and what your aim is.

It's almost a ghost town after the update. I was hoping some of the folks would return, but they must have just *really* hated the new layout. :D

The update certainly, but it's also a busy time of year. Stressful, hurried. Plus, a place can lose its popularity and enjoyment for people. I've taken breaks from forums before, sometimes I go back. Sometimes not.

Ah, yes.. I forget other people actually get to visit their families and friends. That's never an option for me.

I've been out of work for a while, it's time to get myself back. My kids are all at full time school, I'm in a good place with my mental health and my dog is now ok to be left for a few hours. This morning I've completed and passed a catering course and I'm looking forward to trying something new. I've sent off a few job applications so fingers crossed.

Glad to hear you are doing so well. Fingers crossed for you!
