Morning all, feeling tired and weary today. First week back to work has taken its toll! Dragged myself on to the treadmill for a short run, as there are errands and chores galore for today.
Wishing you all a restful Sunday x

Cloudy, drizzly, upper 30s F, and a gusty south wind today. Low back was tight again, but loosened up nicely after the first kilometer. Got my heart rate up close to 180 bpm, so it was a good run. Saw a couple of robins, a few squirrels, and a red tailed hawk.
@polskagirl01 I don't know how one ends out a beard, either, but I hope it's not done Hannibal Lecter style.
@quilteryoyo Congratulations on your Aneur-versary!! Happy you're here to celebrate it with us!6 -
@quilteryoyo I will take your advice and go to a couple of new and different running stores for their inputs. I've studied shoes on youtube and websites, tried on so many. I've been to road runner sports for foot analysis, to a podiatrist, and to PT. I tried!
I ran in Nike Pegasus very happily for 15-17 years. Then the model design changed - and I gained 20 lbs - and my body is much older! I need shoes that come in Wide to accomodate my slight bunions, have a heel-toe-drop of 12mm ideally (thanks to childhood ballet I have high arches), joint deformity in the left toe from an injury but it's not severe enough yet the podiatrist says, for surgery; I supinate naturally and am a forefoot-midfoot striker. I like a responsive shoe with a bit a firmness in the forefoot yet fully flexible in midfoot/arch area, one without cushioning that makes my feet sink into the shoe.
Brooks Adrenaline so far give me no foot pain and are manageable except the heel-toe drop is not enough and overall the shoe feels clunky and heavy. At 4 miles I feel whole-body aching - joints, bones, muscles, all of it and even with 1-2 days off exercise days prior and decent diet, so it's the shoes.
I'll bet the real solution is to lose the 20 lbs. and get new shoes with a better insole for me.
Sorry for the rant guys but this is helping to motivate me to get to the best solution

Just a few sprinkles off and on during my run this morning. I was rewarded with seeing part of a rainbow. Picture in spoiler. Happy Anniversary @quilteryoyo!! (love the play on words @tramboman!)
Way to go getting your virtual Hot Chocolate run done @shanaber. I hope you get some answers from your test results.
@globalhiker – Have you tried the Brooks Ghosts? I like them better than the Adrenalines. Except for the Brooks 13 model – don’t try them on. Unlike prior versions the 13s feel clunky and non-supportive to me. I also have a wide foot and need to loose at least 20 pounds…..

Last long run before race day ended up even longer than planned because I cannot do math while running. I didn’t take the time to map out a run and ended up having to make a turn decision with less that a mile to go. I chose poorly. Oh well, it’s not like an extra 0.5 mile will kill me. Because I did a pace workout the day before, I was running on tired legs and the run felt a little harder. I kept my long run pace about a minute slower that race pace then tried to pick it up to my targeted HM race pace for the last mile and a bit. It actually felt good to up the effort level and I got close to target pace, which is encouraging given how tired my legs were.
@quilteryoyo I am doing the Aramco HM in Houston. It is the HM associated with the Houston marathon, so it’s a big race that usually attracts some fast runners. It is so well organized and has such great crowd support. I am hoping for a PR and really need to sit down this week and figure out my strategy.
@tramboman Weather has been all over the place this winter. Right now it is looking like almost perfect conditions for race day. About 40 in the corrals warming up to about 50 during the race. I am also running the 5k the day before and there is chance for rain right now, so hoping that doesn’t materialize. I like running in the rain usually, but not when it’s cold.6 -

@globalhiker - No worries on ranting! That is what we are here for. I was going suggest something like Altra's since they are nice and wide, until I saw that you need a 12mm drop. I too have pretty wide feet and a bunion on my right foot and looked and looked for wide women's running shoes and they are so hard to find. I have tried Altra's and they are ok but I mostly run in Topo's but they too don't have a high drop, most are 0 and maybe up to 3 or 4mm.
@martaindale - enjoy your taper week!

If anyone has been looking to order a RoadId bracelet or tags I have a $10 off coupon code - 104FRIEND85
I used to wear a separate bracelet, have had tags for my shoes, etc. but when I got the pacemaker it was recommended I have some sort of notification info with me all the time. So I got a tag for my watch band that is on all the time and shows as a medical alert in addition to having the contact info for my husband.2 -
@quilteryoyo I think it was cement blocks and bricks. Similar shacks in the area were filled with wood.1

1/9: 3 miles -hill with one sprint at the end.
month-to-date: 16.5 miles2 -
@globalhiker I thought adrenaline was 12mm? I need a high drop due to Achilles problems. I have found saucony guide at 10mm isn’t a bad option. But you may need more arch support - separate insole may be your best bet.1

Today’s training run was 30 minutes at my prescribed easy pace. My legs felt like lead today after doing RIPPED and speedwork yesterday. Oops. My half is next Saturday, and right now it is looking like chilly and raining. ☹️ I am hoping the forecast will change.
January miles: 26.46

Was able to get 10 miles in this afternoon. Temp was good (50F) but north 20mph wind gusting to 40 was tough. Felt pretty good though.

After yesterday morning's 0 degree run, it warmed up considerably. But then this morning we woke up to freezing rain! I could see from my window that the street was a sheet of ice and it was 100% chance of sleet/freezing rain for the next hour. Which sounded even less pleasant and more hazardous than the cold from yesterday. So we all bailed on Sunday Runday Funday and I spent a lovely extra hour on the couch with coffee and dog snuggling. This afternoon I went to the rock climbing gym for a while and then finished up with a run on the treadmill there. I usually find running there novel enough to keep it a bit more interesting than the regular gym but nothing was helping the treadmill grind today. It got done though!
I'm headed to DC tomorrow so not sure how much running I'll get done. Last time I was there in November it was an amazing 70 degrees. This time will not be as lucky and I'm staying farther away from the national mall so we'll see how it goes.

1/1: 10.02 miles
1/4: 5.31 miles
1/5: 5.26 miles
1/6: 5.18 miles
1/9: 10.01 miles
35.78/100 miles completed for January
This morning was just a gross morning. It was cloudy, 43°F feels like 35°F with 19 mph North winds. Not my favorite running weather. But I wanted to run and it wasn't going to get any nicer, so I got out and ran 10 miles. It was an OK run. Not the best run ever, but not too bad. I dressed ok for it, but I felt a little over dressed when the wind was at my back and a little underdressed when I was running into the wind, so that was kind of annoying. I realize it is only the first week of January, but I am already over winter and ready for spring.

We have central heat again which is nice because it’s going down into the 20s again tonight!
Ran trails yesterday, it was pretty out, about 50. Between my husband’s asthma which is just not letting up after his cold and my heart issues we are a pair. I did 5kish but with walk breaks in between miles, watching my heart rate, total distance 7 miles more or less (our gps data disagreed a lot.) We saw a buck with a huge rack back in the woods!
My mom’s housekeeper is giving me conniptions. I have been trying to keep my 85 year old mom (yesterday was her birthday) in a bubble at least while Memphis is on the short list of places having a massive surge. And then I find out the housekeeper came over and socialized at our house with her granddaughter who just got back from out of state where she was a Covid nurse. So, about the most possible exposed person you can think of.6 -
