Dropped today to 164.6 lbs! Lowest weight in 6-7 years. Down 17.2 lbs of my Nov/Dec/Jan 15 lb goal! Down 90.4 lbs since I started losing from 9/14/20. Since I started MFP 5/14/21- 67.6 lbs! Really wasn't sure that being accountable to people on a social media platform would work. But WOW is all I can say and Thank you to everyone.

Good Morning all, and a happy if belated new year to everyone. Finished the holiday travel and managed to dodge the omicron bullet. Just received negative post travel PCR results and now will retreat to our hobbit hole and wait for the omicron wave to hopefully wane. This will also hopefully allow me to get back on some semblance of a healthy diet and regular workouts. Too many tasty treats over the holidays and a definite lack of exercise. Need to cut out the junk and reduce my calorie intake a bit. I have a date with the scale on Saturday, and not looking forward to it, but must be accountable for my actions. 🤣😱🤣. Anyways. Onward to victory and victory thru vegetables. Hope you all are doing well on your fitness and health journey.5

My wife, my daughter and I had a meeting with a social worker from a palliative care/hospice provider today. It went well and my wife finally seems to be accepting the realities of her situation. We discussed filling out some of the legal documents that are needed.
She refused to even discuss the health care directives and power of attorney when we tried to fill them out at a family meeting several months ago. Much more amenable to the idea today. Seems it is more palatable to her coming from a health care professional rather than a family member.
Hanging in there otherwise. Been getting regular evening workouts in. Finally getting the scale numbers moving in the right direction. That is improving my mood, too. Small victories!

I am 66 years old and a very busy great grandmother; I wish I could count chasing a two year old as a workout. At my age it feels like a workout. LOL!!!!!5

Hi, all! Stopping in for a few reasons.
One, welcome to those new to MFP and this thread. I and others here are cheering you on!
Two, I hope everyone who set a course for 2022 is getting into a good groove, with the flexibility to modify that initial plan if experience suggests it'd be more achievable with a little tweaking. IME, sticking with the overall direction is The Big Deal. The specific eating, exercise, etc., routines are just mechanics, can and should be changed as needed to stay realistic but heading in a positive direction. If we keep chipping away, experimenting, adopting the new habits that can stick, progress happens.
If something isn't working for a person, they aren't a failure, shouldn't give up. Rather, the current plan has flaws, doesn't suit that person, and the plan can be tweaked or discarded in favor of a new one.
@alteredsteve175, I'm glad to hear that at least some of the bumps in your recent very-bumpy road are smoothing out a bit. The psychological side of a situation like that is very, very difficult for everyone involved - let alone the physical. You're a great example of patient persistence, and I'm impressed that you're able to keep those workouts and some weight progress in the picture, with all of what's going on. Sending positive thoughts!
Me, I'm still a bit in my regular annual Winter doldrums, but at least the days are lengthening now: That usually helps. I'm working out, but not as consistently as would be best for me. Right now, I'm experiencing some very minor upper respiratory symptoms (scratchy throat, a little congestion), and feeling vaguely worried about that . . . but rationally I'm pretty sure it's just the common cold or something like that, as it's not really progressing in bad directions so far. (Yes, I'm vaxxed and boosted. I did go to a busy med lab and my doctor's office (big multi-doc practice) this past week, so some slight paranoia about even having been there is probably in the picture.) Planning lots of rest, reasonable nutrition, staying away from others for a few days. Fortunately, I'm all stocked up on essential groceries.
I'm signed up for a machine rowing challenge this month, but it's not a very ambitious one. On target so far.

Had 3 looonng days at work, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday(14-16 hour days). Didn't get to read threads or post regularly. I had a frustrating 5 day plataeu of 165.8 lbs and today FINALLY a Whoosh to 162! I'm thrilled!4

I haven't checked in for a while. Our year started out with great news, we are having a new granddaughter in July. Such a blessing as kids have been trying for three years and finally went OFF and first cycle worked. Our 5 year old granddaughter is so excited. She has been asking for a sibling for last two years. Also, we but the bullet and got a puppy. Haven't had a pet for last nine years. Forgot how much work they are but sure worth it with my husband's limited mobility it has been really good for him. She is a real cuddle bug and loves being in someone's lap. Steve, I know seeing your wife in so much pain must break your heart. Prayers for you both.4

Just turned 63 a couple weeks ago and feel better than I have in many years. I set goals each January. A new year always feels like a fresh start. Most of my goals are related to my art business, but I do add personal ones in as well. They have always included losing weight...year after year....after year...after year...after year. This year, finally, I'm headed to maintenance. Still about 40 pounds to go. I'm still in a bit of disbelief.
Somehow, I lost this group but have now bookmarked it. Love all the great advice, support and celebrations. You're my peeps!!

I'm 65 and need to make myself accountable on here, so that I will lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF. I've yo-yoed around for years, and am mad at myself for gaining 15kg over the past two years. I'm feeling my age, with stiffness and sore hips, so know that losing the excess weight will really help that.

Morning....I'm a little upset today as my scale says I went up 3lbs this week. I know this is almost impossible. I'm hoping it is just water weight or too much sodium this week. I ate very carefully and had almost the same menu as last week and I lost almost 2lbs. This is a little discouraging especially when I'm just starting out. If I had been dieting for a few months and this happened I wouldn't be as upset but not when I've only been at it for a month. I'm going to change up my menu this week, eat food with less sodium and drink a lot more water and hopefully that will get this weight off.

I'm healthy other than having diabetise 2 I need more friends with the same problem. Do come visit me and join me. Now to come back tomorrow. If i'm not here i lost you's2

If you didn't eat 10,500 calories over maintenance calories, or move that much less (!!! you'd notice), then that 3 pounds is absolutely not fat gain.
Since you've only been at this a month, I'd point out that it's quite common to have a quick drop up front (from changing nature/volume of what's eaten), then some water weight rebalancing soon after. The first month can just be a little weird. (It's too bad that that can come at a time when many people are most vulnerable to discouragement, since they've just made so many positive changes).
Hang in there. IMO, no need to do anything special, it'll sort itself out.

Hello. I am 72 and need exercises that are more geared to my age. I see most of the exercises listed on myfitnesspal, and I really want to do them but I know I can’t. I wish they would have a “Senior” section.0

Hello, and welcome, to you and to all our other new participants!
@MidnightsMaMa, have your looked on YouTube? There are lots of exercise videos there (www.YouTube.com) that may work for you. Put "Senior fitness" or something like that in the search box, skip ones that say "Ad", and take a look. Or, if you particular things you want to work on, or work around, you can put things like "exercises for weak hips for seniors". Watch the video through, see if it looks reasonable. Some are by physical therapists who have their degrees/certifications in the descriptions, too.
Maybe someone here can recommend specific senior exercise videos for you there. I have not used any specific ones of those on YouTube, but have used some of the Bob & Brad (physical therapists) videos for specific PT issues. (I don't think their advice on diet is uniformly good - they are not specialists in that, so IMO should not be ranging into some things they don't do well).
If you're in the US, and have Silver Sneakers as part of your health insurance, they have many exercise videos and even some live online classes. (You do have to sign up with your insurance info to access them.) I have done some of these and thought there were well done, and some of my senior friends love them and use them regularly. Their web site is https://www.silversneakers.com/, and there's an eligibility checker there.
AARP has some exercise videos for seniors free (no account needed as far as I know) on their website, at https://videos.aarp.org/category/videos/fitness. Since this is a US organization, I don't know if they somehow limit access to the US portion of the internet, but they seem to be free and open here.

Thank you for the information. I definitely didn't eat any extra calories. I was on goal or below goal all week. I'm sure it will start coming off I just have to be patient3 -

We range from age 62 (me) to the oldest who's 80. We all met years ago through our dragon boat team and have now formed a strong friendship. We all still paddle on the dragon boat team during the summer, but now we also kayak together, cross country ski, snowshoe, do yoga, walk, and drink wine together. A couple of the women (one is the 80 year old) also play pickleball several times a week.

I agree that exercise (in reality) isn't defined by age, but rather by fitness level. Having done the searches for beginner friends from a 55+ RL group, though, "senior" is in practice the way a lot of these seem to be labeled on YouTube. 🤷♀️0 -

Hi all. I am a 61 year old morbidly obese woman finally buckling down and deciding to do something about it. No resolutions but a resolve that I need to be healthier. My dream is to travel the world and 7 seas when I retire (and that will be soon.) I am seeing a Functional Doctor to lead me on the right path for my health. I know I will need to figure out a lifestyle change. Get off this lazy behind and be active. I will admit that I am already feeling overwhelmed but then I go downstairs and do a crazy dance to 80s music and I feel better. Helps to go crazy when no one sees you. lol Looking forward to getting to know you all.6

I'm the oldest RN in the Dialysis Department, 64 soon to be 65. Since I started at this facility in 9/20. I do up to 60 hours/week. (Last 2 weeks was 122.2 hours) One of the staff RN's, who is 50, commented she can't believe the hours I put in and "at your age!" I do seem to put in way more hours than anyone else and most are in their late 30's to mid 40's. Now since I've lost 90+ lbs it definitely is easier. Is it work ethic, how we were raised by "The Greatest Generation" of parents? Also with losing all this weight some of our Neurologists, that didn't know I'm doing this on purpose, have come to me 1:1 to say "Mary, you have lost a lot of weight?" Seems to be out of concern. Which I understand. Then they are relived to hear it's on purpose, then want to know what and how I'm doing it!7
