M – did you put some sort of landscape fabric under your dry rock stream so that weeds won’t grow and the rocks won’t sink into the ground? It’s lovely
Michele NC
I haven't yet.
I'm still in the digging phase -- digging up weed and grass roots and rocks. It's a big bed.
We've got plastic for under the dry stream. It was the most expensive piece of this project ... a whole $16 and I'll only use about half. The other half will likely go into other parts of the yard.
Where most of the "stream" will go there's no fear of rocks sinking. There's a cement "curb" along the rosemary hedge. I have no idea why it's there. But it's not just a curb, it's got a bit that sticks out about 6 inches under a thin layer of dirt - a ledge.
Until we started digging we didn't know that. So we can't plant right up next to the curb. The stream will mostly follow the curb and sit on that ledge. And that's part of the reason I thought I'd try a dry stream - since we can't plant there, might as well put rocks in to fill the area.
You can see the curb in these photos ... and about 6 inches from the curb into the garden bed is the ledge, under a thin layer of soil.

Betsy - You were in my mind and in my heart all day yesterday and woke up thinking of you. I'm glad there's family support coming and hope it truly is supportive. Your grief is your own journey to take, and no one can take it for you, but accepting help along the way can ease some of the burdens. Thank you for checking back in. All of us are sending massive, gentle hugs.
Debbie - I'm so sorry about Umaku. Thinking of you too this morning. When we rescue a puppy or a kitten, we know their lifespans are less than ours, but we take that risk because of the love and joy that we give and receive for the years we have them. By letting him go, you gave him the biggest gift of all.
Love y'all,

Hello everyone, on this British Mother's Day. Thinking of those of you today with losses and grief. ❤ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜 Sending hugs.
Last night's babysitting was hilarious. We watched 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' with the kids, because they love it. Max was hysterical at some of the antics and even I enjoyed bits of it, once my son had switched the base speaker off for me. Then Edie decided to give DH massages and ended up hand-chopping his head! Mischief is her middle name.
This morning I opened my card from my son and he popped over at 10 to give me a big bunch of flowers. He also stayed a while to help DH register iplayer on the Firestick. Phew! I had to do ITV as DH couldn't figure it out. I will sort out the rest. All good to go, but we can't have Netflix as my son already has the full complement of devices. I will keep it on my tablet.
My DDIL has her parents over for lunch today (boo!) so he had to rush off to cook. Still, it's great to have everything working now. I was getting frustrated with DH and my son told me to go and do something else. I managed to restrain myself. So glad he came to help.
Another fabulous spring day. My husband doesn't celebrate Mother's Day for me as I am not his mother so I have organised my own delicious feast. Faux caviar and crême fraiche morsels for lunch and smoked salmon crême fraiche tagliatelle tonight with artichokes, broad beans and peas. AF champagne. I just asked myself, what do I really fancy?

Sorry, I meant to show the art work Edie made from his photo she took! But it didn't load. Oops! I'm sure you don't want a close up of his fizzhog.

Heather, The fact that the grandkids love your husband has to be gratifying on all sides. Everyone needs a nice grandfather, and blood makes no difference in the end, when there's love like that.
Flea, It's so good to see you. I think of you often, and applaud you for continuing to work full time. I don't think I could be that strong.
Allie, Happy DivorceaVersary! Can't believe it's been four years. Hope you're celebrating the day!
The best of Mothering Sunday to all those of you who deserve this so much!
The Great Travois adventure, as requested. In the spoiler 'cause it's a lot of pics.Grapevine for tying the bamboo together
My first attempt, only a few slats are tied:
That was where I stopped; my energy completely ran out and I was hurting, so I went inside to relax and let things settle down. While I was relaxing, Corey tied the remaining bamboo pieces to the legs and then hooked the finished travois to the little lawn tractor.
One trip dragging a load of brush absolutely destroyed it.
So he decided he could do it better - as he said to me when I came back out of the house, my first try had "obvious design flaws." I didn't hit him or anything. I was tempted, but I didn't. I should get points for that. Seriously.
Here he is in progress, using completely different materials, some 2x2x8 wood slats that he brought home from work months ago.
He used the tension of weaving the slats together to make it quite rigid, then added two runner slats underneath to help get give it a little clearance. Then he used screws to make sure it stayed together.
And... here's the finished project. I went and grabbed some brush that I hadn't been able to haul and it worked just fine.
It was a lovely thing, getting this done.... and he's an amazing man who I love beyond all reason. I am so grateful to have him. That's why I didn't hit him. The fact that he was right is just a whole 'nother thing.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa in Arkansas

Rode the recumbent bike today. Work tomorrow so no formal exercise but bowling in the afternoon.
After exercise worked on the puzzle some. I find that it works best for me if I work on the puzzle just for an hour, take a break, then come back for another hour. If I go more than an hour at a time, I find that I try to put the same pieces in spots where they didn’t fit the first time so they won’t fit the second time. Also, a fresh set of eyes finds pieces faster.
I think on days I can’t get to the gym but am working what I’ll do is come home, go in the pool, then maybe go for a walk around the block then have dinner. Maybe after dinner I can go for another walk, but maybe not that far. We shall see what happens
Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate it.
M – we put down about 25 tons of rocks around our pool for the main reason that Vince didn’t (and I agree) want to cut grass in the pool area. THAT was no fun. But it’s done. And we put landscape fabric down first.
Lisa – I just don’t remember, was Egg a stray that you took in?
Allie – I only buy diet caffeine free Pepsi for Vince so if he has some late at night, it doesn’t bother him. Maybe that’ll work for you???
Mary – many years ago I remember FIL saying “now that I’m retired, I’m so busy I don’t know where I found the time to work”. I thought “yea, right”. Now that I’m retired, I know what he meant!!!!
