WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the March 2022 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10857736/march-2022-monthly-running-challenge/p1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until April 1, 2022 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

Find a small group of runners that encourage and offer food support:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10573619/runners-that-need-some-nutritional-accountability#latest
Note: we also have a group on Strava and Facebook.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso

“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine

You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃
'sleasy' - Slow and Easy
'sneasy' - Slow Not Easy
'scrappy' - mix of Slow and Crappy
'wun' - mix of Walking and Running
'wog' - mix of Walking and Jogging

I'm in for 75 this month. Would love to get back to the 100 mile club but I will look forward to that once my arm heals.5
-
I'm going to set my goal at 90 miles for April. Hoping to get a lot of hiking in this month.5

Hi I am new to MFP and this is my first challenge. I'll be starting out slow this month, so my goal is to just run every day12

*dew claws up*
200 minimum miles, 400+ is goal6 -
125 here. ✅6

Welcome @angelrogers1980 ! Just don't do too much too soon. Rest days are important for most of us. @Alphahowls is the exception.
I'm not sure what I am going to do in April, but I may start a 10K training plan. I'm going to say 70 miles total of running and walking 3.5 mph or faster. That will be 10 miles more than March and I actually made that goal - I think that's a first for me.9 -
This is my first time joining this challenge and I'll be trying to do 50 miles in April.

Welcome @sherrirb !0

4/1 – 5.41 miles
Good morning/afternoon, happy Friday and welcome April! Temp was 43F this morning but still windy out there. Not good for the forest fires in the area.
Sorry about all the stress and obstacles you are facing @alphahowls but thankful that you are still with us!
@rheddmobile – Momma raccoon probably needed a break from the babies. Glad you got to see her.
Welcome @angelrogers1980 and @sherrirb!
Watch out for the April Fool's day pranksters everyone! Or are you one?4 -
Gorgeous day here in Austin. So glad I decided to take a vacation day from work (first one this year). Slept in and got a nice run as well as a little vit d bathing.
Goal 125
April 1 - 7.01 miles

In for April! I don’t have a mileage goal but I’m starting to feel the need of a more concrete plan. Without racing I feel like I’m drifting. Right now my goal is to run three times a week, one on trails, one intense or fast run, and one longer run.6
-
First timer here part of this group, I will go for 200 miles for the month of April. I’m up for the challenge me and my Apple Watch7

Ok, I have given it a lot of thought, and since I am the only male on this thread now, I think it is time for me to bid you all goodbye. Now you will be able to talk freely and without concern of hurting fragile male egos
It's been a pleasure! Good luck with your running.
Ha!!!!!!!!! Just kidding! I couldn't make it a day without checking in with you awesome, wonderful, strong, funny, beautiful gals!
Love you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!12 -

@Scott6255 - OMG I was ready to cry or shout at you!! So happy you aren't really leaving us!5 -
Hi Everone
I haven’t done any running since last August but with brighter days now I was getting restless so being the 1st of month & April fools day I put on my runners & managed 2.12 miles. So going to aim for 30 miles for month.
I was dipping in and reading on how everyone was getting on over the months but didn’t like to comment when I wasn’t running. I did practically no exercise from July to December but since January I’ve used my spin bike regularly10 -
Just started running again after having been sick for roughly 2 months. Now I seem to be fine again but again starting at the bottom. Second run was 2km. Last run I'd hoped to get to 3km, but started to fast, and constantly ended up fast again after slowing down. Thus it ended as a (for me) fast 2km. Oh well. Lets see what tonight brings.10
-
Welcome @bknight3913 ! We look forward to hearing about your running.
@Scott6255 I'm with @shanaber ! I was ready to cry. That was a good one.
Welcome back @Mari33a ! Sounds like you have a good start. Don't do too much, too soon though. You've had a long break. Thirty miles sounds like a doable amount.
Learning to pace yourself is the hardest thing to do @yirara . I'm glad you are feeling better. Starting over is hard, but you can do it.

Welcome to all the new folks and welcome back Scott. I miss tramboman and his daily posts. I think he left MFP altogether.
Another gorgeous morning here in Austin. I did not sleep as well and was a bit "tight" so less of a fun run today and more of an average one. It was so nice that I decided to add another mile walk taking flower pictures after to cool down tho.
Goal 125
April 1 - 7.01 miles
April 2 - 4.21 cum 11.227 -
Thanks @shanaber
Welcome to all the new members.
@Scott6255 we would have had to hunt you down if you tried to leave us.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
04/01/22 :::: 0.0 :::: 0.0
04/02/22 :::: 7.1 :::: 7.1
I have a lot of hopes and fears for April on all life fronts including running. Let's think positive - better weather, better attitude, some travel so maybe some running in new places. My goal again is just to do better than last month, so >80 miles. And get my long run worked up a bit more. Last week I did 6 and today I did 7, so on track with that so far.7 -
@Scott6255 You had me going and I too was really sad. I'm glad you were just being a prankster.
No run for me yesterday or today. I hate to start the month with zero miles, but I usually run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday so I am getting back to my regular schedule after last month's streak. I usually walk on my rest days, but yesterday I didn't even do that. I may try to get a walk in today though. It is really nice out.
Welcome to the newcomers and welcome back to those returning!7 -
Sorry for the April Fool's prank, but I just couldn't help myself 😉
Welcome to the new members!
Went out and got 14 miles this morning. Was perfect weather, but for some reason I really wasn't feeling it. Had to take a few walk breaks, but still managed a somewhat decent pace for a long run.
And I think I am talking myself in to signing up for the Dallas Marathon in December. My brother and two other Georgia family members are going to come run it with me. So that will be something to work towards this year. One mile at a time.
7 -
In for 100!
04/02 - 15.1 km
Total: 15.1 km
7 -
Welcome to all new members!1
-
2.4: 3km in 25 min
didn't go too well. I quickly had to switch to a 2/2 breathing pattern, which is normally reserved for faster runs. Guess my lungs and muscles are currently not happy. But I managed to run 25 minutes. Next goal: 30 minutes.8 -

NIce running @SummerSkier .
@katharmonic I hope your April shows that you had nothing to fear. I hope you get to do the traveling you want. In my book, 7 miles is a long run. You're doing great.
@kgirlhart Did you enjoy your rest day?
Go for it @Scott6255. Sounds like it would be so much fun with family running along with you.
Pretty street @Aine8046 ! Nice run too.
@yirara One foot in front of the other and repeat. You are doing great.

4-1 = 1.00 mile walk - treadmill - doubles tennis in the morning
4-2 = 1.00 mile walk - driveway
2.00/70 miles
Yesterday was a long day. I worked at daycare from 6:30 - 9:45, changed clothes and left to play doubles tennis for a couple of hours, then back to daycare from 12:15 - 3:35, home, walked on the treadmill, and then mom and I went to a gospel concert with my Aunt at our local performing arts center. I didn't get home until almost 11:00 pm.
This is my mom, her sister, and me at intermission.
I slept okay, after getting to bed at 1:45, but haven't felt the best and had some minor tummy issues today. So, instead of my planned run, I napped and walked a mile on the driveway afterwards.
I forgot to post pictures of the wildflowers that I found earlier in the week. Here are a couple, if you are interested.
Some of the bluebells were white. I understand it is a fairly rare genetic mutation.
Close up of the blue bluebell.
Trout lily by the stream on my property.7 -
Welcome all the newbies and returnees! We are a chatty bunch of crazy runners but join right in, tell us about your runs o races, ask questions, jump into the conversation.
@Scott6255 - Dallas marathon with your brother and family sounds awesome!
@katharmonic - I hope your April schedule works out and you can get back to your long runs!
@yirara - you'll get there! Maybe try a little slower pace so your lungs and muscles don't hate you!
@quilteryoyo - I hope it is nothing that a little rest won't sort out! Feel better!
I got out today and yesterday even though I didn't feel great. I don't want to spend a lot of energy thinking about my arm and the new medicines seem to be helping with the autoimmune ache-ness but it all seemed to want to stop me today. So I was determined to run as many bits as I could but walked as much as I needed to when my body complained. At times it felt great and I just wanted to keep going. Today and the next few days it will be cool - low to mid 60s (F) so I want to get in what I can. Later in the week it is expected to be in the mid 90s (F) again....
