Debbie & Michele--I am the same way. I can do good during the day, but in the evenings if it is not nailed down I want to eat it and I do way more often than I should.
Debbie--Sending prayers for David and his family.
Barbie--Sending prayers for you and Jake. It's the unkown that cause the most stress for me.
Machka--They are building a place like you vision of independent living just outside of town around the new hospital. Going to be high end they say and all I can see is lots of money. Will see how it turns out in the end. Right now lots of buildings going up. Thier plan is you start in the homes, move to apartments then into nursing care all in the same complex. There is also another group like this on the other side of town and they are just homes, apartments, nursing home care. But there you buy the home and then as you move to the next stage it transfers with you, so you don't really buy the home, just the right to stay there and be cared for until death. That is their advertising.
Happy Birthday Terri. May you have a great day.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE2 -

The Bernise mountain dogs sadly don't live as long as you'd like to think, but so loyal! I met the little guy when she first got him in Montana. He would get so bummed when she had to talk serious with him. He would lay right on her shoes, devoted from the get go though.💖

I would love to be at a living situation that had a pool and hot tub. Water is and shall always be my happy place. If I was able to play tennis, or just practice on a wall, that would be my other favorite exercise to do. Regarding senior living, I know we have not planned financially for any of that. I am turning 60 and husband 62, so many healthy years to talk about what to do.

Annie - That's so funny because I was going to mention to you when I came online that one thing that helps my knees a lot is kinetic tape. The price is reasonable, although it has gone up some. There are very specific ways to support your knee with them. I use them often when one knee or the other is hurting. If it's applied correctly, it takes three to four days before I have to pull them off and replace them. That includes showering, etc. I never could wear knee braces, because of the way my legs are built. I was introduced to the kinetic tape when Corey shattered his wrist, and the physical therapy people used kinetic tape to hasten his recovery. It worked really well for him.
Kim - woke up this morning thinking about you. Hope things have settled down for you.
Just a driveby comment or two.
Later, y'all,

DH does not use a knee brace but I sometimes use one. My left knee has arthritis and my doctor recommended Voltaren for arthritis pain. I use it whenever my left knee hurts. I don’t use the brace very often. I bought the brace at Walgreens and when I need the extra help I am grateful.1

I also use the tape(s) when my knee acts up, which isn't very often these days, as I do lots of knee strengthening exercises every single day of my life. A sports physio showed me how to do it. She also showed me the exercises. I make sure I have the tape(s) with me when I go away. The braces have to be used with care, because they can cause muscle weakening.
I have had a problem with my left knee since I was 16. The patella doesn't run true.
I bless that sports physio every day of my life. She changed my life. I was desperate.

No. My Dr isn’t a fan of braces.

Worked today then went to Aldi. Then decided I’d get all my price sticker-shock in one day so I went to WalMart. This afternoon went to Belk because I completely forgot that my coupon expires tomorrow. Got a set of sheets (queen size) for down at the condo for $8. Ceramics tonight. I should get Smurfette in to be fired.
Been slow at work so there isn’t a lot of prep that I need to do. Bet it’s slow because of Spring Break.
Anne DE – glad your uncle is home. Hope your knee gets better fast
barbie – hope all goes well for Jake
Barbara – I’ve never had flames in my oven. I honestly don’t know what I’d do. Glad you got it taken care of
Betsy – I agree with Carla, hold off selling at least for now
Terri – happy birthday
Vicki – My MIL was at a place like that, she was in independent living then as she developed dementia, she was moved to the dementia ward.
Going to post this so that I don’t forget.

Go to a physiotherapist first.
The best kind of knee brace is the one appropriate for your situation.
Where does your knee hurt?

From my experience most doctors, sports doctors, physiotherapists etc. aren't fans of knee braces.
They prefer exercise but specific types of exercise.

Hello ladies! I was so excited to find this thread. I am a 52 year old married (2nd time around) mother of 8. I still have an 8, 9, and 15 year old at home. They still need their Mom. I have always battled my weight. I never had any health problems until more recently...not to mention just the aging process. Between the 2 I need to get healthier for sure. I am 256 lbs and only 5'2". I got most of the weight off about 20 or so years ago and then got divorced. Unfortunately I put it all back on and then some. This past October I decided it was finally time to do something about my obesity and started watching what I ate and started some exercise. I have lost 32 lbs since then...although I've had some depression over the past 2 weeks and gained back 8 lbs. I think I finally go my head back on straight and feel like getting back on track.12

Terri - Happy, happy birthday!
Annie - I used a knee brace specifically for horseback riding before I had my knee replacement. I agree with the others, see a PT first.
I have LTC insurance and hope to be able to age in place. I live with my daughter and we have a good house for this.
Barbie - hope things go well for Jake.
Prayers for little David.
Welcome to the newbies.
Pest control has been here and hopefully the army of mice will now be deterred. She installed screening, some metal barriers at the back of cupboards and traps in the crawlspace under the house. The sealant she used smells very strong but she says it should disipate quickly. I have fans on and will tackle cleanup later.

Jake has been dealing with his complicated heart since 2004 when he got his first angiogram and stent. He got his first pacemaker/defibrillator in 2006 and an updated one in 2013. We don't know yet when the doctor will schedule the planned angiogram. We are fortunate to have had such excellent cardiologists here.
Betsy, One of the last pieces of advice that my father gave my mother before he died was to not buy or sell anything for a year.
Terri, Happy Birthday. You share so much wisdom with us. I feel so fortunate that you are in my life.
We had a two hour power outage this afternoon along with terrible wind. Bessie is very frightened by wind so she spent the time next to us. I got a lot of reading done.

we use Voltaren too- really works great. That is what the doctor prescribed for MIL.
Another thing that works great is Stopain- there is a spray or a roll on. We get the spray. Works quick.

😎 Morning all
I wasn’t going to bother tracking yesterday, then curiosity got the better of me.
I had planned my lunch, and had a half portion of prawn linguine, and a few skinny chips from sharing portion. Dinner was fillet steak and stir fry, so not too bad.
Did 13,779 steps as we were gaming in the town. (Ingress) DED bought me a chocolate orange, so fats were a little inflated 😝 but still under goal, so, all in all, not too bad.4 -

Catch up time. Lol😜
Barbie: Keeping you both in my 🙏🏻🙏🏻 🙏🏻
Ginny: I can understand how you feel. I know my heart wasn't in it for the last few months of work, and I have really enjoyed my retirement.
Assisted Living My father went into an assisted living facility when he couldn't manage the house on his own. His fees were paid by the government as he was on a basic pension, and he had no property, and minimal savings. Eventually he transferred to the section where they had a warden and meals available. He stayed there right up until he was admitted to hospital in ill health. The government don't fully fund seniors, and many have to sell homes to fund care. MiL was lucky as FiL was ex navy, and she was able to go into a forces nursing facility. She sold her home when property prices had soared quite a bit, and invested the proceeds, so could pay the difference out of the revenue.
Heather: We also intend to stay put. Our current place is absolutely ideal as far as location goes. We can also move into A room downstairs if necessary. We are already future proofing the garden, and we will employ a gardener/cleaner, if we need one. The train station is a 5 to 10 minute bus ride away, so the world is our oyster, if we want to go there. 😂
DH has gone out for the day with his birding friend, so I’ll be doing my own thing today. It’s another bright sunny day, although a little blowy. I will spend time in the garden.
🥳🎉 Cheers to those celebrating.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.
