I am finding the 'cold' intolerable as well. I have done more crazy laps this year than previous. I am so done with anything below 50 F7 -
@Teresa502 Your hike sounds awesome! It's so great that you have friends to go on those adventures with.
I also had never seen the shells on a grave like that before. That article is really interesting @shanaber. I have no idea what purpose they served in this case. I find it interesting that @kgirlhart has several near her with the same thing. We aren't terribly far apart in the grand scheme of TX.
@aine8046 Sorry to hear about your knee! I hope it feels better soon!2 -

While I am sorry those of you up north are having wintery weather again, it means I get glorious low 50's with only 70% humidity and that is hard to be sorry about. My run this morning was wonderful. The perfect conditions! And flat. After 3 runs on the hills this weekend, my legs needed a break. I tried to do a "recovery" 3 miles on monday before I left, avoiding the steepest of the hills around me and still ended up with almost 300ft elevation change and some sore legs. We're building muscles over here!
Also, I am officially committed to Dopey 2023! I registered this morning. I already have my training plans lined up for the year in the buildup to the challenge. Currently, I am doing a 10k plan for some speed work before the worst of summer kicks up. I will admit I am nervous. It is a big challenge and includes a marathon, which I don't really have much motivation to train for as a stand alone race. Right now I am saying this will be a one and done for me but I know better than to say that too loudly. I used to say never to the HM. I mean at one point I said never to running!6 -
@kgirlhart Forgot to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope it was a fun day!0
-
@AlphaHowls You are amazing. Where do you do your "crazy laps?"
@martaindale Congratulations on signing up for Dopey 2023! You are building muscles on those hills. You'll do great.1 -

37.35/70 miles
I took Sunday as a rest day, so just walked one mile on the driveway.
Yesterday, I ran on the treadmill after work. I could have very easily scrapped this run, but I'm so glad I didn't. I did do a 4/1 run walk...walks at 3.8 mph and runs were at 4.2/4x4.7/5.5 mph and finished at 4.2 mph. I was pleased and my HR was pretty well where it should have been.
Today I really wasn't feeling like running again. I've just been "off" today. I've been doing things like putting sugar in the fridge instead of in the cabinet. Anyway, I'm glad I made myself do the run. I did another run/walk for 4/1 minutes. It's the only way my mind would let me get started. LOL It was a scrappy run, but I got it done. Ran 2.25 miles in 30:57 minutes for a 13:45 min/mile (4.4 mph) pace. Slower than Friday, but it was harder too!
Someone said it looked like I had gotten my mojo back. I'm not sure about that, but I do have my determination back. So far, I'm sticking to the plan.5 -

32 miles so far. I've got 4 miles scheduled for tomorrow. I rode my bike today. 40 min with 1:30 RPM or Hill. My legs always feel like jello after and make runs the next day difficult.4
-
@quilteryoyo @shanaber I'm alive and kicking! Thanks for thinking about me. Been cycle commuting 3 or 4 times a week and nothing is sore anymore. Also got one of those roller things to cycle indoors, but can't balance enough to let go of the doorframe yet. Super busy at work so I haven't had the mental energy to pick up running again, but I'm around liking and hugging.10
-
Those are crazy laps @AlphaHowls ! I think that would drive me "crazy."
@RunsOnEspresso I hope your run is better than you are expecting after the bike ride yesterday.
SOOOO glad to see you are doing okay @noblsheep . Glad you are able to get out and cycle to work. Running will come again, if you want it to. It's hard to find the time when you are super busy at work.0 -
Hi @noblsheep! Good to hear from you again. Hope you can get your running mojo back soon.
7 miles this morning. Started drizzling after mile 1, but it felt pretty good. Threw in a few fartleks to remind myself how speed works.

@noblsheep Great to see you back!
I didn't want to get up and get going this morning, but I ended up having a pretty good 5 mile run. The wind has just been ridiculous lately and I really didn't even want to go outside, but I dragged myself out the door and was glad I did. It was 69°F this morning, so pretty warm, but it really was the 20 mph winds that were unpleasant. When I first headed out it was dark and cloudy but as I ran the sky started getting lighter and it looked pretty cool the way the dark clouds were blowing away across the sky revealing the lighter sky underneath.

Speed work this morning with 9 x 400m repeats at mile pace. Even though it was warmer, the humidity was still not quite full force and had some decent cloud cover. This is my 4th day in a row of running and 2nd day of some sort of workout. My legs were definitely feeling fatigued by the last repeat but I managed decently consistent paces. Tomorrow's recovery run will be very welcome!4 -
Did my 4 miles this morning. Legs were fine, I was just slow cuz it was early (5 am) 😆
I'm at 36 miles for April. Looks like I will finish just under 60. May sneak in a few extra each day to try and hit 100k (62.14)7 -

I'm late to the game this month, and have been AWOL since last September, but let's see if I can get back into the habit of checking in.
This month I hope to log 90 miles. That's backed off from an original goal of 150. In February I ran 20 mile trail race in Kansas City which was all slush and the constant wet and cold screwed up my feet. I've been battling swelling in the balls of my feet ever since, but recently it appears to be getting better. I ran 6 miles last night and my feet actually feel better today than they did before my run so there's hope. Today will be a core & leg workout and then some trail running tomorrow.
I'm registered for a 50K this weekend in Wisconsin but I'm going to DNS that one. I just can't risk screwing up my feet by pushing too hard. It's disappointing because this race is mostly really flowy single track, and it's the first ultra I ever ran, but it's the right thing to do.
Two weekends ago I volunteered at the Zumbro Endurance Run, which has distances of 17, 34, 50 and 100 miles. I was a photographer, an amateur radio operator (no cell service at this site so all communications were with amateur radio, for which I'm licensed) and course sweeper. I camped on site between the two days of the race and woke up to 24F. A little chilly but a beautiful weekend. Unfortunately the hiking during the sweeping duties set my feet back a week. Some of you may remember my attempt at 50 miles in a blizzard four years ago. This is that race. The weather was MUCH better this time though.

Hey @7lenny7! It's good to see you here and I'm sure @Scott6255 will be happy to have another guy in the mix! It sounds like a DNS is the right call. I hope your feet continue to feel better. How's Cody? (I think that was your dog's name, right?)1

@martaindale hey! Kody is doing great...for a 14 year old lab. Thanks for asking. He just turned 14 a couple of weeks ago. He still loves going out walking and running with me but old age is catching up to him and 2 miles of easy running is about his limit. He's mostly deaf, has laryngeal paralysis (he can't open up his larynx like he should and often sounds asthmatic) and he doesn't always know where his feet are. He's still the same old sweet Kody though. This is how you'll see him most of the time:
Thankfully he was still able to go pheasant hunting with us last fall, twice. 3 days on one trip, 4 days on the other. I brought him out thinking he'd be good for a field or two each day but he ended up hunting half days every day, though I did keep him out of the heavy cover and gave him plenty of rest. I think the adrenaline and joy of hunting kept him going. There's a dead bird in this photo but it's not gory by any means. That's my oldest son with him.

55 out of 90 miles so far this month.
Unlike many (most?) of you, I love that winter is hanging on like it is. I am fully enjoying continuing to run in these cooler temps! I wish it wasn't a rest day today since it's raining and in the 43F right now. I love that stuff! I'd skip the rest day but tomorrow is a trail day and that's more important to me that a rain run.AlphaHowls wrote: »4/1 14.46 miles, Crazy Laps! 1432 days on the run, 614 days HM+ Streak
@AlphaHowls I thought of you and your crazy laps last month. I entered the Sandlot Marathon, which is a full marathon run on a baseball field. 384.5 laps...you'd be a natural for this! Except for the snow perhaps. I made it 200 laps before bailing out...just under 15 miles. The day, and my feet, started out well but eventually I had to take myself out of the race. In the photo below the table you see on the far left is the aid station. The black shelter you see on the right is where the timers are. They set up everyone with an RFID wristband and as long as you get your wrist close to the sensor, it logged a lap for you.
@Scott6255 that back pain is not fun! Hopefully it resolves quickly. Do you do any yoga? I was in a couple of yoga classes last year and found it really helped my back pain. I need to get back to doing it. All I need is more time...
@rheddmobile I bet you finished that run through the hail with nearly closed eyes, too!
@katharmonic I'd love to see Bonnie Raitt in concert. She's amazing...one of those timeless singers like Emmylou Harris.
@Aine8046 what building is that in your photo you posted a couple of days ago? Looks pretty cool.
Happy birthday @kgirlhart !!
@garygse I missed that you were running Boston even though I follow you on Strava. Great work! I'll have to go back and check out the run on Strava.

I could do that, I think! As long as the pattern is consistent. I can also understand 'bailing'. I have to change the pattern (every song). I have trained myself to change directions every song because it prevents 'overuse' injury. I could also get used to certain temperatures. The problem where I live is that it has no consistency. This week has gone from 33 to 80.
And! Good to see you on the boards!
