Barbie - I hope Jake gets the financial assistance he needs. Medications are so expensive.

Katla - I hope your DH starts feeling better soon.

Rebecca - I would be like you and invite them too. I think when landlords have those rules in place it’s for consistent pets in residence. Most landlords in your situation would probably allow a short visit. Do you have a garage the dogs could stay in to keep DH happy?

Heather - I agree our lost babies are never forgotten.

Debbie - I always wanted to be a wife and mother too. I didn’t realize I wanted to work too until I was probably 15 or so. I remember vividly my Mom asking my Dad for $2.00 and him saying “I just gave you $2.00 last week, what did you do with it”? I swore I would never be dependent financially on a man. At that time my Dad was giving my brother and I each $2.00 a day for our lunch at school. Dad changed a lot over the years and I know my mom wasted a lot of money, but I always felt bad for her.
That was about the time that “women could do it all” became this big thing, we could work, keep house, have babies, please our men. What a crock that was. Many did it, but at what expense?

Allie - maybe meeting the twins will be something that gives him the push to do what he should have been all along.

I didn’t notice a change in the interface either.

Went to ceramics tonight, I’m looking forward to the weekend. It’s been a long week even though it was a short week. That always seems to be the way.

Thank you all for your support and thoughts. Kaitlyn said she is feeling a bit better today. It will be a while before she is 100% physically. She has a doctors appointment tomorrow.

Long day. Took DH to the health clinic. He is looking forward to a different insulin and a new system. It isn’t all in place yet. I hope it goes well. DH is asleep in a recliner down stairs and I’m on the couch down stairs with him.

Hello popping by. CICO story ;

I have been tracking and eating reasonably. and exercising. (going for walk in early morning, short or medium (20 to 80 minutes more or less) depending on time available).

Weight has slowly been creeping up, has been for about 10 years. about 1k per year.

I don't like skipping breakfast. Not really big on imposing intermittent fasting on myself.
I tend to crave starch later in day. Eat a few light 20calorie crackers,. Or a small apple or two... or some soy yogurt with fruit. mostly very reasonable.

Clearly metabolism slows with age, and with post- confinement inertia habits developed (we weren't allowed to go out more than an hour a day during the strict first 2 month confinement period, and then had a long long curfew period with lots of things closed in second confinement, at least 6 months) and less energy I'm burning less. Also no longer have scooter. I would have thought walking and from subway etc burned more than scooter but I'm not sure. scooter in the city is more physical than one would. always putting foot up down, at every stop, leaning, arms up always moving a bit, parking, unpacking the scooter is a moment of weight training... I had to use my weight with leverage to park it. (you have to lift it up a little to use the center kickstand.

So today I cut breakfast in half. had all the same ingredients but half. I added a little water to the soy milk and soy yogurt that I add to the now 10 grams of high protein cereal, (in the. old days it was 30g, then 20...) cause it seemed a bit dry and that was really okay. I like the thick liquid of soy milk and soy yogurt with the cereal.

yesterday I went to a potluck get together with a lot of people and had a good dish of veggies and a little tofu before hand. that was a good tactic. had just one narrow glass of Champagne (not very expensive here) and 2 or 3 pieces of dried fruit, a banana, a couple of strawberries and a few small pineapple chunks. way better than last weeks get together when I hadn't eaten and had potato chips and cheese. I keep trying

Well done Julie! Sounds like your new tactics are doable. I'm not a great fan of depriving myself either. Never works in the long run for me. I'm trying something similar with splitting lunch into two and having the other half as an afternoon snack. Or an open sandwich. I have cut back a lot on exercise because of my back and will not go back to the 900 a day I was doing before. That means I have to eat less. I'm building back some exercise now, but I do think I was overdoing it. I was beginning to resent it and that's never a good sign.
It's important to enjoy your life and your food.

Sharing a homemade pizza tonight with salad. Friday night is wine night. I'm planning on burning 600 calories. Split between morning and afternoon. 350 this morning. Looks like a lovely running day, but I think I will give my back more time. It's loads better. I am doing gentle back stretches etc.

Last night, in the dusk, we watched a mother fox, who was watching her young cub exploring our garden. She stood stock still while the baby ran around sniffing everything. They have a lair next door. They used to live at the bottom of our garden, but we cut back the trees above the den and it got too damp. We like seeing them occasionally, but weren't too happy with them living here. Loads of foxes round here.
Our garden is a real haven for wildlife. This May we haven't cut the grass to allow wild flowers to grow for the insects. We have a carpet of daisies and a small meadow by the shed, where we sowed seeds the last few years. There has been a campaign on TV.
The council no longer sprays the pavements.

I'm just the opposite ... I didn't want to be a mother. I was going to give it a go because that's what society expected, and because my first husband really, really wanted to be a father, but I wasn't keen. And my body wasn't keen either.
I wanted a career, travel, adventure!

It was one of the things which drove a wedge between us ... and later was one of the things that attracted me to my current husband who I met while on an adventure during travels.

My family was a little different from some others, I think.

On my mother's side, my great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother all had jobs (of course, so did my great-grandfather, grandfather, and father). On my father's side, my grandmother worked and so did my aunt.

I grew up around women who had jobs and took care of their families. My grandmother on my father's side had a large family (6 kids) but the rest had small families. They were/are all strong women ... and were role models for me.

I grew up with both my parents encouraging me to do what I wanted with my life, although I'm sure they've questioned some of my choices!

I remember them both looking a little doubtful when I announced that I was going to get into ultra-distance cycling, especially knowing that I'd be cycling these long, long distances through the night, perhaps even by myself.

But they encouraged me to give it a go, which turned into supporting me, and then my father sold his motorcycle and joined me on some of the shorter long distance rides!!

And now ... I'm the one earning the money, trying to advance my career, and taking care of my little family.

We have to mow our grass here. Most councils require it because ... snakes!

The garden that won the Chelsea Flower Show this year was a wildlife garden. Looks a bit like ours!

Our only poisonous snake is the adder, and that's mainly in real wild areas. Rarely deadly, but could be dangerous to a child. We only have harmless grass snakes.
Our streets do look a bit like a jungle, but I've got used to it.
Still wrestling with my blurb and biog. I think I'm progressing, but I'm giving it a break for a moment.

I was thinking about it and I'm pretty sure that my grandmother would have been about my age (55) when my grandfather (75 - he was 20 years older than my grandmother) starting showing early signs of dementia.

Gradually she took over all the household stuff, while working at a flower shop. My great-grandfather passed away in those early years of my grandfather's dementia, and my great-grandmother moved into a suite in the basement of my grandparents' house. So my grandmother took care of both of them, although my great-grandmother was quite self-sufficient for a while.
At some point in her late 60s or early 70s, my grandmother even learned to drive!

Having gone through what I've gone through in recent years, I feel I understand my grandmother better. I wish I could talk to her now.

M You are correct you have to treat essential oils like medicine. It is the less toxic option for flea and ticks. The oral flea and tick is a systemic. It will only kill the flea and ticks if they bite your dog. They do not repel ticks. With the correct usage of essential oils fleas and ticks are repelled and they never bite your dog. Their can be side effects to both methods. The big one with the oral is it can give dogs seisures. The oral meds effect the nervous system of the dog. Essential oils if not used properly can make a dog ill but not as serverely as the flea and tick meds.
