Hiked 12 miles with the baby. It was a personal best for me and it was gloriously quiet!6

I pulled weeds.
From a canoe.
We focused on Ludwigia (Ludwigia hexapetala a.k.a. Water Primrose) and Parrots Feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum a.k.a., Brazilian Water Milfoil). I recruited three friends to come join the fun; the organizers appreciated the extra hands. Made less work for everyone.
Tomorrow a scouting trip for another event. Will be more fun had for sure.

Finished the last 2 episodes of a series, I've been watching (The Terminal List). Then started to watch a movie to finish out. But I got interested and "bit the bullet" and watched till the end. Amounting to 270 minutes on the Elliptical for 18.54 miles.5

A few days behind, due to daughter's visit and hectic schedule. Short run/walk Thursday and Saturday, per PT's return to run progression plan. Open water swim on Friday with friends, some of whom swam, others provided kayak support. Went out for a solo bike ride yesterday.
Rest day today.5 -
I went climbing on Sunday. It was really good fun; a 2 hour session. I was back in Norwich and it was my first time back at this gym since lockdown. I have at least moved up a grade in that period. I got pretty much all the v3s I tried. I didn't get any v4s, but got close on a couple. The grading at this gym is notoriously tough.5

Caught a summer cold from my daughter to end last week, stayed out of the gym until I got better. (Still have an occasional cough, but all other symptoms are gone.) All the squat racks were in use when I got to the gym this morning, so changed up and did my Tuesday back routine instead...
Pullups, cable row, BB row, BB shrugs, face pull, cable hammer curls5 -
I ripped open both my hands, including blisters that hadn't fully healed yet, and pushed myself to the limit in today's gymnastics class. I don't think I've ever done a harder workout and the main reason it felt so hard is because I'm about 40kg too heavy to reasonably attempt this but here I am.
Week 3 of our pull up progression:
After the warmup we practiced beat swings and some kips. Kips are hard for me because they require me bending my elbows while hanging from the pull up bar, effectively lifting most of my body weight at least a little bit, which is extremely hard. I can deadlift my bodyweight and then some but not more than once in a row and not while said bodyweight moves.
Then we did 8 x 1 min 15 seconds. I did 2 sets of 4 beat swings every 1 min 15. It was HARD. My shoulders were aching towards the end. But my beatswings are getting better. I am still terrified, which I can tell from my racing heartbeat, but it's getting less scary and some beatswings looked almost like kips.
Then after those 10 minutes, we had to do 3 sets of 10 seconds pull up hold at the top, which I did with the assistance of some horizontal bands, 10 bent over rows, which I did with 5kg DBs, and 60 seconds of kb farmer's hold, so holding a kb in each hand and standing up straight. I made the mistake of sharing with a man so we both did it with 2 24kg KBs. It was a nightmare but we both succeeded. My arms were shaking during almost 60 of the 180 seconds of that hold. The longest 3 minutes of my life.
Finally we did 3 sets of 10 DB bicep curls per hand. By this point I was so done, I used 5 kg DBs and called it a day.
I am so exhausted. Idc if it's water weight, I need to lose more weight to make pull ups doable. It just has to happen.4 -
9 mile run and stretching/ foam rolling. Still sore from yesterdays run π€£π€£3

A couple hours underwater. Holding a stick to keep my working divers away from sharks in 60 degree water, then scrubbing things in 52 degree water. Waved to kids through the acrylic. Even played a little Rock, paper, scissors. One woman looked at me and made the "shivering" gesture and I could see her lips saying, "Aren't you cold?" In a dry suit with heavy thermals, I was not. In fact, I was drenched with sweat after the first dive because I was insulated for 50-degree water, not 60-degree water.4

Push day! Got everything in except skull crushers this morning. I didn't have time to wait for a flat bench to become available before I had to start getting ready for work. Next time maybe I'll start with those to make sure I can get them done.4

Spent the last four days in San Diego visiting my son. No workouts but averaged a bit over 5 miles walking per day. We stayed at the Hard Rock, right next to the Gaslamp Quarter, right near Petco Field and the Marina/Seaside Village. Tons of walking every day. Was fun. Back at the grind starting today.
Was proud of my wife. Four months post foot surgery and she walked it all, right along with us. I gave her lots of foot rubs and leg massages (and bought her some more comfortable shoes), but it's the first time she's walked nearly that far since before her surgery.5 -
5K run, trying to ease back in to a sensible running schedule.2

40 minutes strength (upper body with bow flex and core work) and 60 minute run today3

I did an hour long pilates session in the morning. We covered both hips and the overhead position. I did my first deep squat since hurting my back and it was okay! The overhead stuff wasn't too bad either because my wrists don't allow for a normal wide-grip ohsq so my mobility had to adapt real quick when I started doing those.
I also finally took my bike to the repair shop. It was the weirdest exchange, the dude asking me to diagnose the bike myself? Like okay I guess you should probably replace the inner tyres but surely you are the expert and you should do whatever you need to fix it without asking me for advice? Fingers crossed it'll be ready before my lunch meet-up with a friend but I'd take ready before friday late afternoon too.
Finally tonight I had oly class. I wore gloves to spare my hands since I'm helping my sister move later this week and my hands are still a mess from yesterday. Apparently it's deload week for snatches so we kept it light.
12 minutes of 1 hang power snatch and 1 overhead squat. 55% for the first 4 min (25kg for me), 60% for the next 4 (27,5kg) and 65% for the last 4 min (30kg). It's always challenging to do narrower grip snatches but at these weights I was okay.
Apparently it's not deload week for the strength work. We had to do 6 sets of 5 backsquats at 60%, 70%, 80% and the last 3 sets at 85%. I hadn't done backsquats in over a month because of my back so even my 48% felt heavy. I also lost a bunch of ankle mobility from avoiding front squats, back squats and deadlifts for over a month. I did a set at 32%, 48%, 59%, 70% and 81%. The last set was awful on my shoulders and my back said we stop here, though my knees were cooperating so I think both my core strength and my mind-muscle connection (i.e. a semblance of control over what my body does) must've improved. Very nice.
Now I am bone tired. Fortunately dinner is ready. I've rarely had days this active since march 2020 so well done to me.4 -
Back to it today. Wasn't happy that my first day back in town was a harder day. Did the 5 X 30 X 3 workout today -- 30 reps of compound shoulders, legs, chest X 5 sets. Felt hard. Finished right before lunch (I break this up throughout my morning, starting at 6 AM, so it's not too brutal).
Right from last set into my hard interval row today -- 3 X 888m / 90 second recovery. Thought I could hold a 1:57 pace but couldn't. Ended up dying on the last one for a 2:00.3 average. Need to do this one over again when I'm fresher and, ideally, not right after the lift. Wasn't that hot for Tucson (around 86 at lunch) but was very humid for here -- right at around 45% humidity. Mostly just feeling sluggish from driving 6 hours yesterday and sleeping in a hotel bed for four days.3 -

Every leg day I always have bruises across my shoulders from the bar. My wife used to be concerned for me, but these days she just looks, grunts "must be leg day" and goes back to what she was doing, lol.3 -
Speaking of leg day, I was able to knock it out today!
Squats, RDL, leg press, leg extend, lying leg curls
Will be sporting my usual leg-day-shoulder-bruises later, I'm sure, lol.4 -

For real, front- and backsquats equal shoulder bruises, cleans equal collarbone bruises, snatches equal thigh bruises from catching the bar. You can always tell what I did from the bruises I'm sporting π1 -
Elliptical 233 minutes for 16.47 miles. Skipped the weights today as I had errands to get done. My 6 days off is over, back to work Wednesday.3

Sometimes I don't even know what I'm thinking. Sure, it was not as hot as sometimes, but it was hot enough (mid-80s F). Nonetheless, somehow it seemed like a plan to go for a bike ride, then go row at the open rowing session.
Fortunately (?), I got a late start on the bike ride, so only rode 16.4 miles, in order to get home, change, and have a snack before leaving for the boathouse. (I took a side trip on the bike ride to do my primary voting thing - my first "vote by bike" (sorta).)
I was smart enough at the boathouse to recruit a more youthful double partner (share the work!), but the water turned really lovely and flat (especially after the jet ski guys left), so we rowed 8.6k rather than just the usual 7k-ish bridge to bridge.
There was some Z3 in each of the bike/row, but the bulk of both was quite easy pace, Z2 and below. Like I said, it was still kinda hot. Now I'm hungry . . . and I have a couple of calories in my budget. π
@Djproulx, glad to see you're moving ahead on your rehab/progression. Wishing you steady recovery, in all senses of the word!
It's also nice to see some new participants in this thread - so interesting to see all the different things folks do to enjoy being active!3 -
I lifted, doing:
Hangboarding. My fingers are pretty strongk at the moment.
Weighted pull up I got +25 kgs, a PR.
Bench 3 sets of 5, 50 kgs
Deadlift 2 sets of 7, 100 kgs
I only got 12k steps in, making it (I think), the most sedentary day of the year so far.
One thing I forgot to log was a trip to the sea this weekend. My Mum wanted to watch the sunset from Hunstanton, so I drove her there. I was a bit under-prepared, so when I went for a swim I just wore my boxers. Normally, I last about 40 seconds, turn blue, and insist to onlookers that it's lovely once you're in. This time, it was genuinely a nice temperature, so I got a decent swim in.

I had a good morning workout. I managed to eat a bit before going so my energy levels were okay.
We did:
3 min of max wall balls. For ever 5 wall ballls you could substract 50 meters from the aerobics stuff. I got 60 wall balls with a 4kg ball.
1 min rest.
Then 10 min to complete either 2K row, 1,5K ski or 5K bike minus the wall ball meters. So for me that was 900 meters of ski machine in 4:11. Not my strongest pace but considering I hadn't used the ski machine since I hurt my back I'm happy. Every minute felt like 5 minutes.
The remaining time was rest.
Then we had 10 min to get to a heavy double deadlift. Deadlifts were a big no with my back but I wanted to try to build up again so I started at empty bar (15kg), through 20kg, 25kg, 30kg and ended with 35kg. I was completely exhausted. My back felt okay but got tired way faster than it used to and my hamstrings had 't been used much either so I feel those and my hip flexors too.
After that I did part of the gymnastics homework. We were supposed tp do beatswings but my hands refused to cooperate. I tried to hang from the bar but just slid right off.
So I did 3 sets of 10 banded lat pull downs and 10 banded rows.
3 sets of 5 negative ring rows with the TRX.
4 sets of 10 DB bent over row and DB bicep curls with a 5kg DB.
And 3 sets of 20 banded lat pulldowns with a stick.
I am done for the day. Might walk a bit around town but nothing strenuous.4 -
Didn't go to the gym yesterday but did a lot of stretching at home for my tight hamstrings and lower back. Feels pretty good today. I have a mandatory late night at work today but planning on hitting the gym after. Planning being the key word there.5

Back to the usual 7k rowing bow of the double - under threat of a storm, but we got the row in. Did a group of steady 10 (stroke) hard, 10 moderate intervals once we got out of the area that was a little roller-y due to wind direction and intense due to wind strength (depending on whether we were going upstream/upwind or downstream/downwind). There were even a couple of minutes of Z4 in there, but still mostly below.
Between today's power intervals and yesterday's 16 mi bike/8.6k row, my quads/calves are a little bit "WTF, Ann?" but this, too, shall pass. π4
