Been working, going to ceramics, working on the jigsaw puzzle, counting the donation money at the church (unfortunately, that means for this month the gym will have to take a back seat), helping Jess move, food shopping, of course going in the pool when I can. Rummikub tonight. Yea, this is the last time that I HAVE to be there. From now on it’s only if I WANT to go. And tomorrow is the last day of this bowling league. Oh, life can be good at times. Made a loaf of banana bread for Vince. Finished Pluto and Goofy at ceramics and fixed the eyes for a pookey snail. Why I made two of them, I have no idea. I’ll probably put one in front of the house and another by the pool
We’ve also been putting these decorative stones around the drains in the backyard. Basically, to make it look nice, so that someone doesn’t fall into the drain, and (to me, most importantly) to make it easier to mow.
A bit cool right now (low 80’s). Hope this doesn’t signal the coming of autumn yet.
Allie – those clocks would drive me crazy!
Welcome Heather VA. So sorry you lost your mother. Welcome Anne FI, DE (we have another Anne from DE), Stefie DC – I do well during the day then at night I really struggle to not binge and everyone else that is new or returning
Tacking food was a real eye opener for me. You think you’re eating so healthily (like having only bananas. It’s fruit so it’s good for you, right? But 3 bananas is over 300 calories) and you don’t realize how many calories you’re taking in when you have even healthy foods. Now I measure everything. Not sure why I don’t weigh, but for some reason I don’t
Lisa – we love our kids. But we also love when we have to wave goodbye.
Evelyn – congrats on the retirement. Now you can REALLY get busy….lol A pole dancer...lol
Debbie – your new addition is so adorable! Name???
Anne DE - good luck with the writing online course
I didn’t realize that after 3 years my library card expires. All I have to do is go to the library to renew it.
Lisa in the desert – an emoji is just fine. We would worry if we hadn’t heard from you. Love your grandchild, especially the pic of her with her eyes closed. Fantastic wood burning. You are so creative. Makes my ceramics look pathetic. So sorry about your stroke.
Vince is feeling achey and tired. He’s going in for a covid test. My guess? He’s negative but he’s looking for a reason not to go to Rummikub tonight. I told him that he really should go since Deb’s husband will be there. They’re on the bowling league and I know that he and Vince really get along.
Vicki – I’m so sorry you were in the ER, but glad you went
Today I mentioned to Jerry that I didn’t need to be at the church until 11 and he asked me if when I get the donations for the Corner Table Soupkitchen, could I give him rice and canned veges. I told him that I had no idea when I’d be asked to pick them up from the church again and suggested that he go to the Corner Table. He said that he really didn’t like to go. So the more I thought about it, the more I realized that, basically, he’s asking me to steal. He probably doesn’t look at it that way. But people donated that food to the church with the understanding that it was going to the soupkitchen. I can’t decide who to give it to. If someone can afford beer and cigarettes, to me they can afford food. Really, he can afford food. It’s just cheaper if he gets it for free. I really don’t want to get in the habit of giving him (or anyone) food from the soup kitchen. I’ll tell him (if I have to) that he needs to get it from the Corner Table and I’d be glad to take him there on a Friday when I’m volunteering. If it’s that important, he can wait until I’m finished. But in the meantime, I’m not going to say anything but if it ever comes up, that’s what I’m going to tell him. I will not steal.

What did I tell you? Vince is negative. The MD office just called. Actually, they also tested him for the flu and that's negative, too.

I’ve been taking yogi out for his walk for the last two days. Kirby got sunburned feet and they were swollen a bit. With the Plantar fasciitis that he has on one foot and the sunburn. Since I walk a faster pace lately, these last couple of days I’ve been able to walk faster and I added slow jogging to the walk as a combo.8

DH & I are currently in an apartment in an assistant living facility in Illinois. We are here while DH recovers from surgery following a heart attack. We are in Illinois because of our daughter’s efforts to help. We have a home and good friends in Oregon, and they are keeping watch on our home there.10

Katla, Thank you for keeping us posted. I think about you every day.
Mary, I had you pegged in the second picture but wasn't sure about the first one. You look a lot like one of my beloved first cousins. Especially your chin and around your eyes.
We are having success in ridding ourselves of our belongings.
There is a local business called Class and Trash. They are buying a lot of our furniture - some antiques and some more modern, and are giving a fair price. Plus they do all the leg work/moving/etc., then just cut you a check and off they go. Plus our local Buy Nothing group is proving to be a godsend. People are in a frenzy over our "gifts" and I am having fun choosing recipients. Some things I could probably sell on eBay, but I don't want to. It's more fun to give them away.
We have 2 favorite thrift stores, Diversity Thrift and Thrifty Quaker, that we go to when we get a carload of stuff ready. Slow and steady wins the race. Still have SO much stuff to get rid of. But we are making a dent.
We are shredding old documents like crazy. We got a really good shredder that you can put a stack of paper in and it feeds it into the machine. It's wonderful. It will take about 2" of stacked paper at a time, you just push the button, walk away, and it does all the work.
My stepson came over this morning and was a tremendous help. He lifted all the heavy stuff. We make a good team.

Karen the book is called Wishing Will by H E McCarthy.
I was trying to post a picture of the cover and the blurb on the back, but for some reason my mobile is not letting me download the pics. To give you some idea if it is your cup of tea:
It's Will Morgan's eleventh birthday and somehow he's ended up all alone in Wynn Wood
Well ... not all alone ...
There are witches in the heart of Wynne, along with wots, wares, wyes and wenns of course.
When he learns that the wots are in danger, Will is determined to help save them.
But what can he possibly do to defeat an evil witch?
And who's going to save him?
I'm about half way through it and am enjoying it, although I do get the wares and the wyes muddled up. She thinks her second book is better as she was older when she started it.

Vicki- You are right that the first two I AM books are consecutive. This new one takes a bit of a break and is in a different style, more psychological, which is why I reversed the I AM to AM I? It may be some time before I write the next instalment to the I AMs. I would call WHERE AM I? a 'case history', rather than a straight memoir. Thank you so very much for reading them all!
We had some rain today. Next door is having her new 'summer house' put up at the bottom of the garden, so we had four soaking wet men in orange t shirts, digging, drilling and grinding concrete next to us while they prepped the ground and ran an electric supply up there. Ugh! Occasionally they had to retreat because it was tipping it down. They should be laying the base tomorrow. Rain expected.
I should be going to a French Circle get together in a park tomorrow morning, but I think it will be too wet. I'll judge it in the morning. Haven't seen them for a year as we were worried about covid.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx1 -

Hi. I'm Lori. I'm 55 years old and live in the Chicago suburbs. I weigh approximately 295 lbs. My highest weight was 335 lbs. I've been losing and gaining the same 10 lbs for almost 2 years. I'm diabetic and my A1C results from mid-June were really high, so I've been focusing on eating healthier. I'm also trying to exercise regularly. (Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop This Feeling is in my playlist too. It makes me smile.)
I work as a technical writer/copywriter from home. I have a daughter, Lena, who will start her sophomore year of college soon. I have three dogs, Lilo, Zed, and Jax. Lilo is a black lab mix. Zed is a min-pin/chihuahua mix. Jax is a chihuahua mix too. Jax is also diabetic, but he's at a healthy weight.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.9 -

Life has provided surprises for me. I’m an Oregon girl, currently living in an assisted care facility in Illinois. We have an apartment here. DH had a major stroke and needed health support closer to our daughter. I am here to support my husband.
Have you been able to go for walks to explore your new area?

Well the good news is that Teddyboo is home safe and seems to feel okay. The bad news is that canine dental care is not cheap, and they could only do half the work in the time allotted under the anaesthesia. So he needs another dental procedure in January. My wallet says ouch! But my heart is glad to have him home.
Annie in Delaware6 -
Katla - glad someone is looking after your Oregon home. Hang in there.
Welcome to the newbies!
Vicki - hope your visit with the cardiologist works out well.
The books all look interesting. Lisa, are you working on a sequel to your mystery?
Went to PT early this morning and feel like I have not accomplished much else all day. The ankle always feels sore after he gets done poking and prodding and I do all of the exercises.
Favorite exercises: horseback ridong and swimming.

Well, went to the last Rummikub that I HAVE to be at. I met the gal who is going to take it over and it seems that if she can’t find anyone to host, then she’ll have it at her house. Really, I wouldn’t want to have it at my house every month, but it’s up to her.
Welcome Lori. Do you have to give Jax insulin? We had a cat who was diabetic. Really, when it was time for his insulin he, literally, would come to us as if to say “it’s time”. I do think he associated the insulin with feeling better. Now Jessica’s cat who was diabetic! That was another story. He wanted nothing to do with the insulin. Giving it to him was a real hassle.
Anne DE – I know our vet has a month when it’s “Dental Month” and you get the dental work for a certain percentage off. You might ask your vet if they have something like that. As I recall, the month seemed to be February, but don’t quote me on that.
Talked to the vp of Newcomers. Seems that the first month after Vince helped the treasurer, her reports were more what they wanted. Unfortunately, it hasn’t continued. Of course, we don’t want to hurt her by Vince jumping in and doing the job. Wish she’d ask for help. Oh well…..

Heather...I hate to go to sleep because I want to stay up and keep reading your writing. I love the quotes from various authors. By sharing with us your life you open the door for the reader to examine her own life. Rosemarie from GA2

more unneccesary drama with stuff broken because of anger between dh and mil- Every time we think it is calm it comes out of no where. They both need major psych help.
No walking today- really wanted to but it was too hot and when it cooled down, dh was home and wanted me to listen to him again-(so hard to not say I don't want to hear it) If I dont agree with him he gets mad at me.
Tomorrow I will walk with my zumba friends around the wetlands for at least an hour.
May walk MIL's dog but most likely not- she said she doesn't want either of us there, she doesn't need our help(but wants social worker to come and help her-)
I will wait and see how she is tomorrow-
Tomorrow is the daycare girls first day of school so I will pick her up at 12:30.
Hope you all have a wonderful day/night
Debbie

Anne - I use the weight scale daily, you’ve made a good point about the importance of a food scale too. I have failed at that recently (Ok I guess 2 years isn’t recent). 😐
Heather - congratulations on getting your book posted!
Rebecca - “food is nourishment not a recreational activity”. That is my problem right now, I know I’m eating a lot in the evenings just out of boredom.
I can’t imagine what your sister is going through.
Rita - hope the meds get straightened out soon. Good job on the loss!
Sue - I need to go through some things too. What a great idea to give it to the rummage sale.
Karen - that sign is hilarious. It’s a long process clearing a house.
Lisa from the Boonies - my husband does pyrography. I’ll have to check out your page. Dancing and moving in my living room sure helped me.
Mary - that looks idyllic, but I know it’s a lot of work.
Machka - I do most of the things to get more activity in. I have no stairs anywhere though so that one is out. I need to get back to the regular walking. Walking and dancing are my favourite activities.
Vicki - I hope it’s nothing serious and you’re able to avoid meds.
I had some cucumbers given to me yesterday so I’m going to try pickling for the first time this weekend. Lauryn and Michaela are going to help. I have to go get some mason jars.
I have worked on my stockings this evening. I want to have them all completed by end of August, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen.

Rosemarie- Thank you so much for your comment. I do worry that my book will be too much for some people, but I do believe that so many of us keep repeating damaging behaviour because of our childhood wounds. Most of the time, this is unconscious, and it took me years before I could clearly see the pattern. I think there is a difference between knowing something intellectually, and really 'seeing' it and feeling it in your heart. Only then can there be true change and growth.
All my life I have been fascinated by tales of 'redemption'. How people pulled themselves out of moral confusion and despair. Do you remember, 'What Katy Did'.? And 'Little Women', of course. Striving to be a better person. Most of my children’s books have elements of that theme.
It doesn't have to be serious damage. We learn unconscious behaviours and reactions from babyhood. Even things like our position in the family makes a huge difference.
Thank you again. It makes a huge difference to me.

Thanks to whoever mentioned Get Fit with Rick.
Had a look on you tube and found him, I've never heard of him before, anyway I've joined a 7 day challenge. It's mainly a walking challenge, but I think anything that can get me moving is a good thing right.
Just finished Day 1 workout a walky dancy routine but it gave me 2,000+ steps and it wasn't too difficult, no getting down on the floor (It's the getting up that's the problem!)
Back to logging my food, but I'm trying not to put pressure on myself, if I miss a day it is what it is. I am hoping it will help me make better choices, as Michele said if you eat 3 bananas you have eaten 300 cals, so everything in moderation (especially the biscuits!)
Must dash getting ready to see friends for a coffee. It is fine at the moment, but has rained all night, can't complain we certainly needed it. Still a drought on. I wonder if they would like to go for a walk instead?
Take care and love to all

Karen in VA, we must be in the same area because I've been to Diversity Thrift numerous times. Never heard of Thrifty Quaker, though, so I'll have to check that out. I'm a sucker for thrift stores.
Yesterday was a very challenging day. My oldest dog Beau is having some issues, I think, with hip pain. We've had him checked out before but they didn't find any reason why that might be the case. We were hoping he just strained a muscle or something, but he's struggling again and having some bathroom accidents in the house because he can't navigate the stairs of the deck to go down to the backyard. Hoping he doesn't get any worse because the first vet appointment I could get is tomorrow. If he does, we'll have to go to the emergency vet and that will be very expensive. But we'll find a way if we need to.
On top of that, my son injured himself at band camp yesterday (but toughed it out). I took him to a clinic since the pediatrician's office was closed just to be sure it wasn't serious and they sent us to the ER right away. We thought he was going to need surgery, but, fortunately, it turned out to not be the serious thing they thought it was, so he just has to take some pain meds, antibiotics, and follow up with a specialist.
I am proud of myself that I didn't binge because that is exactly the kind of day that would lead to a binge episode. I did allow myself an extra cup of coffee (with my high-calorie creamer), but I still managed to stay on track calorie-wise.
Hope everyone has a great day. And I'm getting so many tips and tricks from all of you, so thanks for that.7 -
Morning ladies
Im over here with Miles
He is napping now.. which is fine .. he is now pulling himself up to stand ,so that only means watch out world lol..
Tracy is tired .. i remember the days .she was the same.. she didn't sleep through the night until she was 2 but they still have him in the porta crib in the living room and she is sleeping on the couch. She wants to make sure that Kyle gets his sleep without interruption because he is the breadwinner..but that doesn't mean she doesn't need good sleep too.

L - I don’t respond to everyone because sometimes it is overwhelming. But if you do get to read a bit mark your place so you will know where you are left off. I do a lot of skimming…You are very talented and have a skill not many people posses.
SueBDew in TX
I skim a lot too.
If something grabs my attention, then I'll respond.
I'm afraid I don't understand how marking your place works.
If there are 30 posts in a thread, and I read 15 of them and then have to go, and if I post a reply with numbers or smilies or something, that reply goes to the very end ... Post 31. When I return to the thread the next day, I will be taken to Post 32 (right after the one I posted) and I will have missed posts 16-30.
In fact, I may miss more because if there are 30 posts in a thread and I read 15 of them and then have to go, in that time 5 more people may have posted. So I post a reply with numbers or smilies or something, and that post will go to the very end ... Post 36. All 30 posts plus the 5 new ones. When I return to the thread the next day, I will be taken to Post 37 (right after the one I posted) and I will have missed posts 16-35.
If I do read all 30 posts, and then place a marker, when I return the next day, I will be taken to the one after my marker ... but that will happen anyway. I'm always automatically taken to the last one I read or the last one I posted, whichever is more recent.
Perhaps I'm missing something.
