StefieS ~ Welcome back! I see from your profile pics that you are an artist and that you have participated in races . Good luck as you let us be a part of your adventure.
Heather ~ I looked for your new book on Amazon and guess the title is Windows. It looks like it will be an interesting read!

Hi Barbiecat and others, I'm StefieS from Wash DC and I am logging in to MFP for the first time today after a 5 year plus hiatus. Wowza. My ticker showed me that I had met my goal back then...but, when I hit 50, arthritis in my hip limited me exercise and my eating habits also gradually declined.
Now I am back up and need/want to lose 30 pounds! So, I know I'm joining in mid-month here, but like I said, just started back today. One bad habit I've developed is late-night eating when I am stressed and/or can't sleep. Anyone else struggle with this?
Hi and welcome!!
snacking at night is what is my biggest problem too- Lay in bed, can't sleep and so I get a snack.(can't sleep when I am hungry). My go-to snack late at night is a big spoonful of peanut butter.
I can be well under calories when I head for bed but that one spoonful puts me over.
Tracking on here and having my Fitbit are the two things that keep me on track.
Still trying to figure out why the weight isn't coming off but not giving up.

Rebecca, I was 62 years old when I found MFP. I had tried and failed at so many weight loss plans and wondered if I would ever succeed. What helped me was to do a very serious personal inventory of my relationship with food and exercise to help me make life changes that help me be lighter, healthier, and fitter and contribute to longevity. Among my first decisions was to stop using food as a source of entertainment and recreation. That meant that I wasn't going to spend a lot of time thinking and planning about what fun things to eat. For both health and frugality, I cut back on restaurant eating. I began meeting my friends for a walk rather than lunch or a beverage. I decided to resign my position as excellent chocolate chip cookie baker and find other ways to excel in life. I got a pedometer and used that as encouragement to be more active. I read books about healthy eating and exercise and habit formation. I listened to podcasts about health. I made my health more important than anything else in my life. Now I am 76 years old and have lost 50 pounds and kept the weight off for years. I check in to MFP and this thread every morning without fail to log food and exercise and stay connected to others who have the same goals of weight loss, health, fitness, and longevity. I have learned so much from others. I wish you the best on your new resolve.

Thanks Barbie, and others for your wise words. I appreciate you all so much! Food is nourishment not a recreational activity. I need to tone down my meals a tad. Check.πͺ ππ»ππ

This guy Yogi Cameron has some great videos. Yes much is to do with the Indian practice of Ayurveda. There is a video (should be the first one listed) about how much we should be eating in a day. I like how he talks about eating for nourishment, not out of boredom, or stress, or many other factors. That you look at your day and eat accordingly to how much activity you will be doing. It follows a flow to it that I find inspiring you know? I used to watch his show when he had one. That's how I learned about putting coconut oil everywhere ππ. And the importance of turmeric.

Trying to adjust to new meds my psychiatrist put me on. Seems like 1 is not enough but 2 makes me really sleepy. Idk still experimenting. The cold doesnβt help either. I wonder if the 2 are connected somehow?
Welcome to the newcomers!

Edited to add my weight is going downβ- 182 in July, down to 175 today. So thereβs that!8 -
The Kindle version is live now. If that's the way you read books, do check it out. I'm not allowed to provide links on this thread so the best way is to go to Amazon and search for it on the Kindle option. The paperback will take a few more hours to appear, if that's your preferred reading style.
This is not for everyone. Please read the blurb carefully. And remember, when you know better, you do better. I have learned so much over the years and this book is the product of that learning. I have compassion for that young woman that I was. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx8 -
DD and friend are finishing the goat fence today. They got about one half of it done on Saturday. They went hiking yesterday and Heather goes home tomorrow. I wish I could help them but still restricted to walking only on flat surfaces no uneven areas like the lawn or pasture. I have PT for about one more month.
I need to go through some things as church is having a rummage sale next Saturday. I would like to move a bunch of stuff out of my house and that would be a good place for it to go.
Heather - congrats on the book!
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
One of the silver linings of going through boxes is finding items you thought were lost. This one is particularly for Barbie. I took this photo in a laundromat a number of years ago. My mom (an English teacher) pointed it out to me. We both thought it was hilarious!

Ack! I'm sorry but I can't seem to keep up with the comments that have been left just since my last visit on Saturday morning..
With that being said I'm going to wish you all the very best week ahead and quietly sneak out the back door.

Son has been losing weight by switching to drinking water with every meal. He was having pop/soda. He has also taken up running.
I have been steady at about 178 for over a year now. I did get down to 165 about three years ago. What keeps my weight steady is I walk DrewB twice a day and I maintain two gardens and two houses. Exercise is not an issue for me. Also I eat plenty of veggies and fruits. We have cut down on the portion size of our meat. I try to eat organic or my own veggies from garden as much as I can. The more I learn about how our food is mass produced in our country the more I read labels. The major problem is how much gyphosate (weed killer) has been used in this country. Yes it does break down in a year or two. The major problem is it acts like a antibiotic in the soil and kills the microbes. (They used to feed cattle antibiotics to fatten them up before they began our dinner.) So the food we eat lacks the microbes we need to have good gut health. When you go people watch you see the results of this food supply. I learned dogs have 7 times the amount of gyphosate in their systems that we due becasue of their size and how much they interact with the earth. Half of the dogs over 10 will have cancer. Gyphosate is just one of the thousands of chemicals in our food, water, and air supply. I know I am sounding like a downer but having knowledge helps me make better choices. I believe being picky about the food I eat and eating quality over quanity is the way to health. My neighbor told me last night when he and his wife decided to go organic they saved their receipts. They noticed over time they actually started spending less money because they started eating less because their food satisfied them. The other up side was they both lost weight.
Some of the food cravings are caused by the microbes in our guts demandng to be fed. When a gut is healthier it is easier to stick with better food choices becasue there is less cravings. I have learned especially with myself and DrewB to transition slowly. Some foods no matter how healthy they are can cause stomach and skin issue if introduced too quickly or there is an allergy to them. I found this out with Drew when I tried to give her Greek yogurt. Some dogs tolerate and thrive on it. She does not hives, swollen lymph nodes, wheezing were the clues for her.
So find what works for you and makes you feel healthier.
I have up graded my water purifier and to improve indoor air quality I watch what I clean with and have numerous indoor plants to help clean the indoor air.

Heather UK - Well done, well done, WELL DONE! Woot! You are inspiring, as always.
@1derland99 - Just keep coming back, NONE of us answer every single post every day, dear heart. We have folks on here that have been here for years and just pop up with an emoticon occasionally, no words at all. Lets us know they're OK. There are no fingers leveled, nor tsk-tsks behind our hands. And no stress to be had. Here's where you're accepted, and sure to find something to learn or to make you smile or nod in recognition. It's a good place.
Corey's home from work, assembling a meatloaf for dinner and he'll use the leftovers in his lunches for the week. We were both too tired to mess with washing dishes last night, so we left the dishes in the sink. Instead of just leaving them to me to clean up when I got up later, he did the dishes and ran the dishwasher before he left for work. It's possible that I've married the most wonderful man in the world.
And, apropos of nothing, the heat is just, well, see below. The humidity is finally dropping which helps a lot, but the temperatures are unbearable anyway.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Thank you. This is hilarious for so many reasons1 -
@LisaInArkansas
Thanks for that...
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning (if that wasn't already obvious) along with a splitting headache and I've been in a hell of a mood ALL day...from grumpy, to emotional, back to grumpy and now I have another headache on top of everything
I feel bad as I have yet to catch up on all the comments that were left over the weekend..
I read two comments this morning then got up to grab some tylenol only to come back and notice that my satellite connection was down. The surrounding storms are really messing up my satellite signal. By the time it came back up I was too grumpy to try and read through the rest of the comments and try and remember who said what so that I could leave a little response for everyone.
It also FEELS like it's 9 o'clock at night right now and it's only barely 4:30pm in the afternoon.
Just a weird day all around.
Hubby got called out AGAIN just about 30 minutes ago for another flash flood run. π
At least he got to eat something before heading back out...
Thinking that it was later than it really was..I ended up make dinner way earlier than usual.
Bacon and cabbage stir fry..probably the best part of my day so far.
Only 3 simple ingredients (bacon, mini sweet peppers and fresh green cabbage) with no other added seasonings or oils. Just throw the bacon and peppers in the pan...let is cook down so the bacon is crispy and then toss in the cabbage. I'm always amazed at how incredibly flavorful this skillet dish tastes with only these 3 ingredients...
Hopefully I will wake up in a better mood tomorrow...if not, I'll just leave you all an 'emoji' or two.

Different ladies use numbers, or emojis to "bookmark" their place, maybe how far they read etc. Pip uses random numbers to keep us guessingπππ!
By the way that bacon, pepper, cabbage dish sounds amazing!

L in the Mojave Dessert For several reasons I live a somewhat isolated life and I love reading this thread every morning and being involved in the lives of other women. I don't feel alone and I find out what others are dealing with. Sometimes I respond and other times all I do is post an emoji but I love this supportive community.
Lately I've been traveling from the safety of my own house by watching YouTube videos. It has been great.

I found myself scrolling back through the comments to see if 79 78 were just random numbers or what, and I found 80
@KJLaMore
I just now read your comment and question to me that you left yesterday with regards to what it is I do out here in the boonies. The photos you shared of the children are adorable. β€οΈβ€οΈ
Our grand daughter was also fitted with a 'helmet' for several months when she was a baby...
Here she is, back then with her helmet and now at 2 years old.
oh my gosh, I'll tell you what...you can have the worst headache or crappiest day, but looking at photos of your grand babies makes ALL of the crappiness just melt away....
Anyways...back to your question. I actually do NOT read a lot (I scored a big fat ZERO in that reading quiz from a few days ago)....well at least that was until I joined this thread,π π€£
I now do a lot of scrolling and reading, haha
Up until a few years ago I was burning a LOT of wood...
I'm a PYROgrapher (not to be confused with PHOTOgrapher)...well, WAS a pyrographer.
Not so much these days ππ I had my own business burning everything from custom portraits of children, dogs and animals, to plaques, furniture and all sorts of things. I wood burned everything by hand..FREE HAND. I enjoyed it so very much...
BurntOfferingsByLisa
http://burntofferingsbylisa.weebly.com/
It kept me busy, this in between homeschooling my boys through high school. (9th grade thru 12th grade)
Long story short, I had a stroke which caused a great deal of weakness in my right hand and arm making it hard to continue the 'custom' work I was doing for my customers. I didn't give it up completely.. I
occasionally tinker with different projects here and there.
I've been working on this for quite sometime..I work on it a few minutes, sit it down and come back to it a few weeks later. In all honestly, since I had the stroke, I don't get as much joy as I used to from wood burning....but it's okay.
I also enjoy creating my own exercise routines and choreographing them to music. (making my own mix tapes..old school, haha) I have no doubts I look like a right ol' ninny dancing around my livingroom to my mix tapes but it helped me burn calories and will ultimately help me get to 1derland99.

Just a couple pictures to show you what I have been up to lately! I have been helping out at my daughter's horse ranch! In the first picture if you magnify it you can see me down at the very end of the aisle! The second picture my daughter took of me as we were walking the horses back to the barn. π

Heather congratulations on your book! I can't wait to read it π
Karen we have been going through our storage containers and I found quite a few old pictures!
