So sorry katla1 -
Katla I am so sorry to hear that your driver's license has been revoked. This is a sad and scary thing. I am sending many hugs your way
Barbie1 -
Katla hugs for you. Such a difficult time.
Annie in Delaware1 -
My drivers license was revoked by a doctor’s orders. I am still angry but have no recourse at this time. DH did not get anything saying his was revoked and he was hospitalized for 2 weeks, and then in a skilled nursing facility for several weeks.
Over the course of time, I’ve never had a driving mishap, or traffic ticket but did have a doctor who banned me from driving. I am sad and mad. My adult children were on his side. There was no fairness and plenty of humiliation.
I am sorry that has happened but everyone wants you and those around you to be safe.
Did the doctor give you a diagnosis?
Not having a driver's license anymore has upset my husband too. He's not allowed to drive because of his brain injury and epilepsy. It is like an aspect of freedom is taken away.
But he walks to the local shops and uses the bus to get around, like I do most of the time, so that helps.

Katla-I am sorry they have revoked your license. I do hope you understand the doctor's reasoning for it. If you DH is not yet up to driving, perhaps it is better the car be at your daughter's so you aren't tempted!
Another driving issue:In talking with my brother yesterday, who has some strange physical ailments and needs surgery to keep his spine together and they are still figuring out his muscle issues, I urged him not to drive right now-his reflexes are non-existent and I am concerned he may have problems reacting and braking. Also-he is having significant memory issues. I knew my SIL is concerned about him driving at this time, so I figured I would let him be made at me. I expressed I didn't think it was a good idea at time-I would hate it if he hit a child or otherwise caused an accident until the reflexes return to normal. I don't know if he will listen to me, but I spoke from love and concern. Often we can't see what others see.
Had good visit with DB and SIL (except for car discussion). He is very pleased with the recliner/power lift we selected. It will be delivered in a little over 1 week-hope it gets there before his surgery. It appears, from MRI, there may be some significant spinal cord damage. Don't know if that explains his muscle atrophy or not. He gets memory test this week-anxious for that also. He is suddenly almost a shell of himself.
Had late lunch/early dinner with two friends from high school -such a good visit.
Getting ready to finish up for the day.
Take care all,

Got to exercise today so did a Tight on Time DVD (this is a new one) and then some pilates. Then I went for a walk around the block, then to Aldi just for a few things. It’s nice out so I’ll probably go in the pool
When we moved to NC, as I recall you had something like 30 days to get a new license. To be honest, a lot of people don’t. A friend of mine got hers a few years after she moved here.
Kim – you can imagine our Christmas electric bill! We now only use LED’s and, boy, has it sure saved a lot. Replaced almost all the incadescent bulbs in the house with LED’s. The biggest problem is that there’s no where to even give the incadescent bulbs to. How I wish we could have a clothes line! Our house in Stroudsburg had one and I absolutely loved it. I believe the people who bought the house from us removed it. Our homeowner’s assoc. won’t allow it (boo). TECHNICALLY we’re not supposed to have one of those plastic sheds. We have one, only it’s in a spot where no one can see it. We just keep the pool supplies in it. I am very impressed how you ingeniously have a clothes line! I had an indoor clothes line in the furnace room in Stroudsburg. It was very warm in there so the clothes dried really well. The only thing that I really didn’t line dry were towels. They were too rough for Vince. But otherwise, almost everything was line dried. Then when we moved to Kennett Square I had to use the dryer and the same here.
Just back from my walk
Katla – why did the doctor revoke your driving license?
Ginny – (((HUGS)))

Katla ~ I know you have stated that you have never had an accident or a ticket, but, I have a friend (my age 74) who got her license revoked last Spring because she had had 4 accidents that were her fault. She retook the driver's test 5 times and finally passed. So there is hope for those who persist! Keep your head up!

We have a heat pump that generally works okay but when it gets cold we are forced to use electric heat.
Last winter my husband had me run the heat quite high and in February the bill was $600.00. I was in shorts and sleeveless. We are in Georgia but it was cold. This is triple our usual bill! I am going to try some different clothes for him this winter. Recall he is paralyzed,so prone to being cold.
Katia, I am so sorry about your license. How is the assisted living residence? It is great news that your husband is doing so well.
We had a quiet day, watched a movie and some of the baseball game. It is a balance of caretaking vs companionship time and unfortunately the caretaking wins out. I would like to plant a Fall Garden even though it is still hot. I will see what plants are in at the garden center. We did talk with family today via zoom and a video call. They all live out of state, so it was fun to see everyone.

Greetings dear friends. I'm typing on my phone so will keep this brief. Took me 2.5 hours to read last 12 pages. I have been busy this month and it's not over yet.
Went to visit a friend in Atlantic City. She spoiled me with delicious home cooked meals and a day trip to Cape May. I enjoyed getting to swim in the ocean.
Then traveled to Shenandoah, Virginia and spent 2.5 days at a getogether with DSIL, 4 of her 5 daughters and a close family friend. Sitting around the fireplace one evening I instigated an impromptu salsa dance session. The National Park was beautiful, but we hot some muggy weather. Had more fun tubing down the river which ran right behind our AirbnB.
Came home and two days later my very dear friend of over 55 years came for a 3 night visit. My "guest room" is now being rented by my roommate, so I gave Margie my room and I used pull out couch in my cat's room. We also took a road trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park and our room at the lodge was a vintage bullet trailer. We made great memories. Despite having purged several bins of photos and memorabilia over the past year, I managed to find a couple dozen items she and/or her late mom wrote me years ago. We had many laughs and she took all the items home with her
Roommate MT has settled in well. He is quiet, gracious and lives a mostly healthy lifestyle. He works at Whole Foods and loves to cook. Goes to his gym 4x a week. While I was away he took excellent care of my indoor and outdoor plants. And most importantly, he loves Mars, my ever demanding cat.
Speaking of kitchens, my handyman is almost done with painting my cabinets and attaching new pulls. Took them from "last century oak" to white. Looks so much brighter! Now I'm looking at countertops and appliances. Phasing in the improvements.
My job continues to be a huge joy. I have seen so many great shows this summer. Pitbull, who has provided the music that makes my gym workouts FUN, was here just last week. Audience danced from first song thru encore. Tomorrow I'll see Sammy Hagar and then Thursday I am ushering the play Hadestown. Next month I will be transitioning back to working only the indoor venues for the theatre/dance/opera and symphony events. But I will forever remember the beautiful nights and healing energy of live music I experienced this summer at Red Rocks. Blessing in so many ways.
Next Tuesday I'm off to Montana for late season white water rafting with my girlfriends up there. We will take road trip to Missoula and Wallace. First time for me to that area.
Unfortunately my vision is blurring right now from too much time in front of this little screen tonight. I'll be back soon. Know I think of you all often and send waves of happy, healing vibes from the place in my heart where I carry this group.
Stay well. We can do this.

At this time DH and I are in a retirement center in Illinois where he is getting physical therapy & occupational therapy after his heart attack. He is very pleased with his progress. We are content being here while he is getting help. Once he his ready we both want to return to our home in Oregon. We are taking things one day at a time.8

Rori -- I hope you enjoy Hadestown. You'll have to let me know what you think. I saw it a few weeks ago in Portland.

Katla - Sending love to you and your DH.
I haven't driven since we moved to Hove, nearly four years ago. I don't even like being driven, and I will not go far with DH driving. If I do get in the car, I sit in the back and distract myself with a screen. I hate motorways.
This does have an effect on our ability to travel. DH is not enthusiastic about trains, but will, tolerate them. Luckily, cruises are perfect, though the journey to the port, by chauffeured car, is not my favourite part.
Rosemarie- Have you investigated electrically, or battery, warmed clothing? It must be cheaper than having the heat up high. DH gets very cold hands and I looked at battery gloves for him once. Light thermal layers, like mountaineers wear, also make a huge difference. We will be wearing those this winter with our astronomical rises in energy bills.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
I went shopping with our daughter today. She was preparing for our grandson’s birthday party. I hope the party went well. I picked up a few groceries for DH & me. He has not been feeling well and I’ve been worried for him.
Sorry your husband isn't doing very well.
I hope the medical staff where you live now are looking after him.
Are they looking after you too?

Both a heart attack AND a stroke!!
That's a lot to be recovering from.
Take this time to rest and recover.

Lots of time planned with the grandchildren.
Tomorrow the girls are coming until 1 pm. I will give them lunch.
Next week Max is coming for one of the days and we will walk with him to collect the girls from school. He starts his new school a bit later in the week.
This year my birthday is on a Sunday in October. Edie has been agitating about having a sleepover, so I have booked them in to stay on the Saturday night and have birthday breakfast with us. Last year we did it for DH'S birthday, which is on a Monday this year, of course. I can see DH tossing gluten free pancakes! Last year, I was on duty.
Bank Holiday today. I didn’t write, but bought Edie's birthday presents. A board game she asked for, and Fymo modelling stuff, which she really wants. So that's all done. I also bought myself a long sleeve thermal vest in black. I have a cream one. Hope to be able to turn the temps down this winter by a degree. I hate being cold though. The government is bringing out packages of help, but I estimate we will have to find an extra £1000.

It's funny ... I like hot weather and being outside when it's hot.
But I really dislike being in a hot building or hot car.
And I'm rarely cold ... or even cool.
The temp in here right now is about 17C (62F) and I'm in a sleeveless top and quite comfortable. I do have a small desk fan if I start feeling too warm.
I'm pretty sure the temp at work is about 20C (68F) at least. And I run my desk fan all day long.
The bus ... they tell me they keep it at a scorching 22C (71F) but I have seen it up to 30C (86) on my thermometer.

New weight loss technique -- food poisoning!
Just a bit suspicious.
I went to lunch with former work colleagues and it was lovely spending time with them, but I found that the food left a little bit to be desired. It came out really quickly which makes me suspect that a microwave was involved. I had a tofu and veg stir fry, but the veggies were incredibly hot (heat, not spice) and it took about 20 minutes before they cooled enough for me to eat, which also made me suspect microwave. The tofu was tough and rubbery with an inner consistency of scrambled egg ... and was also way, way too hot.
I ate about half of it, and soon didn't feel very well. And this evening, the toilet and I have become friends.
It's late in the evening now and I'm feeling a little bit better, but not at all hungry.

Good morning ladies!
Rori - reading about your life really energizes me! Thank you for sharing your joy. If your roomie has a twin brother, please find out if he'd like to live in SW WA State. And if he likes yard work, lol. I have a spot for him.
Heather - glad your family is back safe and sound. I'll bet the grands will have plenty of stories to tell.
Rosemarie - a few times I was able to get my husband to use a lap blanket or put on an extra sweatshirt, but not often. I too turned up the heat. Really noticeable when we'd run out of firewood. Sigh.
I have very cold hands that are almost painful in the winter. I bought kid's socks at the dollar store, put a cup or so of rice in each one, and tied it off at the top - and made mini handwarmers to stick in my pockets when I go for a walk, zapping for 40 seconds before heading out the door. Otherwise I have to fight sticking my hands down my pants to keep them warm but the neighbors....
Also, I'm a fan of quarter zip pullovers with stand-up collars. If I get too hot, I can just unzip a bit but the back of my neck stays warm. A few years ago I bought a couple on sale at the Eddie Bauer outlet. They are really warm - not thermal weave, but perhaps something skiers wear.
I look for them when I go to thrift stores, and sometimes find good ones in the men's section. Something I can pull over a light shirt. Don't think I can let my house get down to 45F like Kim, but I'm looking forward to experimenting to see how Rosie and I will fare. She has plenty of sweaters.
Make it a super week!
