Pip, that table is so pretty!
Barbie, Karen! THAT is one of my biggest problems. I just can't THROW stuff away. I can give it away, no problem. Don't need the cash. The other issue however is motivation. Just getting started. However, yesterday, I tossed several other bags of just trash. When I tossed those couple totes, I found some other stuff that I knew I didn't need so I was able to just toss it. I know there's stuff that is throwable, but the motivation just isn't in me most days. I gotta find that. LOL. Y'all have sorta pushed me just by talking about it, so PLEASE keep talking!!!
THANKS Barbara! We're kindred spirits! Paper is not so hard, except my scrap and card-making paper. OMG, don't get me started there. Yeah, the old tax returns? Those are gone. But I'm STILL furious about Dad's old wood-working tools that ended up in Iowa and are now who-knows-where. LONG, painful story.
Another STUNNING day here in Minnesota! Windows open again!

Thx to all for your nice words on my painted cart. For all The projects I did I used the paint we already had, that’s why the colors all seem repetitive. I’m glad I liked the colors well enough.
I am floored and astounded. I started with $135 with MS donations and in a span of 1 or 2 days, I am already up to $570!!!!!! I can’t believe it! I may end up getting my jersey after all! I have always gotten my funds/donations by the day of the ride (9/10) but we have til the end of October to turn in your $$$. Again, I am honored to be part of the group, you are a bush of awesome peeps!5 -
Pip-I think it is great you do the MS ride. I have two friends with MS. Their treatment options have expanded over the years. Nice to have someone we know to make donations through! Thanks for the opportunity.
Had long walk this morning (5 miles). Getting ready to have late lunch/early dinner at cookout with friends. I'm taking a broccoli and raisin salad I like but won't just make for myself. Tomorrow going to son's house for cookout. Think I will make spinach/mandarin orange salad to take to that.
Machka-train show sounds interesting. We have a large basement in our house. I always wanted to get a big train set set up running around it. I was the only one in the family who had an interest-so it didn't happen. Who knows, some day I may just set a smaller one up somewhere!
Kate UK-glad you have returned. I was thinking about you the other day. Don't beat yourself up-what is important is that we keep trying. If getting on the wagon and staying there was easy-none of us would need support!
Off to get ready. Going to be raining here later-thunderstorms predicted. Luckily friend has covered area for grilling and we can eat and visit inside.
Take care all,

Well me and Alfie have the place to ourselves, have the patio door open ,the screen closed so Alfie doesnt take off but ,the marina right next door the boats are going in and out .so alot of noise and small waves..
Think I'll take a nap..0 -
Enjoy the quiet and the relaxation Allie! Oops, ahhh she's napping.. 😴😴🙃😁
Rebecca, tip toeing back in and silently not banging the screen door.💖3 -
I am prompted my Machka's description of her two very different emotional reactions to downsizing events, as well as Barbara's description of the grief and frustration she experiences with decluttering to say:
I am doing Swedish Death Cleaning. https://www.bystored.com/blog/swedish-death-cleaning#1
The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning requires mindset, intent, involvement of others, a thoughtful approach to dealing with belongings, an awareness of what sparks joy, consideration for one's heirs, and a clear appreciation for a simpler, less cluttered life with a new approach to organization.
The "sparks joy" part is key to this working for any given individual. If getting rid of your stuff doesn't spark joy, it's going to be a bitter exercise in futility. It so happens that I was ripe for this, and am fully embracing it, something I could not (and would not) have done at various other times of my life.
My oldest 2 grandchildren were here yesterday and today and have been a tremendous help. They are 16 and 13 and strong, smart kids. We shredded papers, moved shelves from storage to our DR, carried heavy loads down the stairs, ate Chinese food, and had a grand time. They just went home about 30 minutes ago and I am tired! They've gotten so grown up. Some of you will remember that I was Learning Coach for 2 years for my oldest grandchild. He is 16 now and is thriving in brick and mortar public HS with IEP in place (autism). He is studying for his driver's license exam. I am thrilled at how well he is doing. Brilliant mind. His sister is 13. She excels in school and swimming, and is very mature and has an active social life. It was great to see them.

Rebecca- i tried napping sorta hard with a barky dog but feel a bit more rested..
The boats are trucking along out there.. and the birds are twittering away.
There is an old country store that i go to everytime i come up so I stopped there for a little bit..got myself a t-shirt and a sweatshirt and a few odds and ends that i like. And what I bring home will get rid of 5-6 other things
Jean and I had a nice time together. This place changes her, this is her happy place..
We were talking about the next generation ,that most of them things ,material things, sentimental things that we have dont hold any attachments to them and will end up in a tag sale or a landfill somewhere.
So the things I treasure now. I shall treasure and other stuff that doesn't mean anything gets chucked.2 -
Awe, Allie its fun to get treats now and then for yourself. You do so much for others, 24/7 its nice to see you think of yourself.💖👍🏻

My right knee is giving me trouble. It's the same knee that's 'twinged' a couple of times recently. Currently it's very uncomfortable, but I can still walk. Like a rheumatic flare up. Boo! Usually these things pass with rest, sleep and time. Here's hoping!
Kate - Have you had to pay extra on your insurance for your holiday? I'm sure your gallstones op will be fine. I was back at work after not much more than a week.

September Goals ... Like Lisa, I've stopped putting numbers on my goals. Lost 3 pounds in August. So the goal will be to be lighter at the end of September. My budget got shot to h@@l this month too, btw.
Karen VA ... I do remember your grandson with autism. Wonderful that he is doing well in a brick&mortar school now! Thank you, too, for reposting Pip's link.
DeCluttering ... I'm always trying to declutter, but I'm now just completely overwhelmed. This weekend we closed my mom's assisted living apartment, emptying the contents into a 15ft UHaul truck that we just unloaded into a temporary storage unit. My basement is FULL of her clothes, dry pantry/food items that need stored and then a pallet stacked with the things my dad wanted me to keep before he passed away that I wouldn't store in a unit. I get rid of my stuff to replace it with other people's stuff. It's just for a season, but still. The next step will be to reassess everything once my mom has ended her insurance provided skilled nursing. Either she'll be moved to a private skilled nursing facility near me or to a new assisted living apartment. In either case, she will not be able to use everything I just brought back to NY. Interestingly, in the harsh light of day, everything looked so shabby. Made me sad. Definitely motivated me to get rid of things I'm hanging on to of my own.

When I sold my rental, I kept a couple of things that I still use, and the rest, including all the contents of the loft, were hauled away by a company that empties houses. I had to pay them, but it was such a load off my mind. They were amazing and worked so hard.

LisaInArkansas wrote: »Goals for August
✅ - Be lighter: I was 167 on the first of August and 166 the last day. These days I'm happy to see progress. This is tied tightly to the next goal.
✅ - Be healthier: I certainly hope so, but it's a tightrope these days. More later for the inquiring minds.
✅ - Stick to the budget: Between the chunk of cash laid out for the air conditioner fix, and a few other unexpected expenses, we're a bit over, but not as bad as it could have been. Hope for fewer unexpected expenses this month, but am incredibly grateful that we have the means to be able to pay for the A/C - it's a lifesaver in literal terms for me now.
My September goals remain the same - be lighter, be healthier and stick to the budget. For the new folks with us, setting specific, numbered goals was one of the things I decided to stop doing when I found myself feeling that I was a failure if I only lost a pound, or we went over the budget by just a few dollars or I ate a calorie past my limit. When I backed off of beating myself up about these things, it removed a lot of the stress and negative self-talk. Lots of peace in that.
More later - I'm about to cut up our first watermelon of the season, and want to find a recipe for pickled watermelon rind--a blast from the past from my childhood.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa
I just noticed your donation, thx so much!!

GINNY Thanks for kind words
KAREN So good to hear that your grandson is doing so well
HEATHER I haven’t rung anyone yet, I know it will be expensive. I have a telephone appointment with consultant on 29th of this month so thought I’d wait and see what he says. We don’t go away until 10th December and have only paid a deposit.

Got another donation, up to $655! It was an anonymous donor, thank you if it came from here!3

Pip - Thank you for what you're doing! One of my sisters-in-law has MS, so it matters to us personally. I hope you get your jersey, it's well deserved.

Viv - Is Take Your House Back a show or book?
Heather - it takes a lot of creativity to make board games and sometimes a lot of patience from the adult playing with them.
My Grandson enjoys making board games his rule changes drive us all insane though. It’s mostly because he wants us to play before he has it all planned.
Lanette - I think of those letters and stuff and wish my grandmother would have kept some of hers. I think I’ve gotten rid of all of mine years ago.
Kelly - what a beautiful gift, the thought and love that went into that is incredible.
Rebecca - I bet your sister would love that. You could make a little scrapbook with all of your papers and stickers.
Rosemarie - I hope that your family lets you get a little break and that your caregiver shows up.
Terri - I love your poem
Heather - I love your bowl. We watch The Great Pottery Throwdown here. I’m so glad you’ve signed up for another class. Letting go of perfectionism is difficult, I have that issue as well.
I should do that with some jewelry I have. My grandmother gave me an opal and pearl ring that was her Aunt’s. It’s beautiful, but I lost one of the pearls and it would be more than the worth of ring to replace that pearl.
I had an idea a few years ago to have earrings and a pendant made. I talked to my grandmother about it and she gave me some old gold rings that she had to help with the cost. She told me the story of all of them though and I’ve never been able to do anything with them. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately though so I should go talk to a jeweller. I owe myself something from my inheritance from her so I could use it towards this.
I have her pearls too, and I don’t know if they should be insured or not. I need to have them looked at too.
Carla - I had my husband bring in a tote yesterday for me to go through. It has been in a storage shed for 6 years unopened. They are quilts and such my grandmother made. I still don’t know what to do with them.
I have been able to get rid of a lot of other sentimental stuff by deciding that it should be loved and honoured somewhere not just buried away.
I need to go through some more things to decide again.
Pip - that trolley is beautiful. I just love it. You should be very proud of yourself.
Sue - Glad your power came in before your horse went wandering.
Karen - I was quite ruthless when we went from 2400 square feet (including the finished basement) to a mobile home about 720 square feet in total.
I need to go through again and see what else I can get rid of. My tastes have changed some and my attitude towards stuff has as well.
I do remember your Grandson, so happy to hear he is doing well.
Barbara - Having a need for something I just disposed of drives me batty! I do it way too often though.
Ginny - I always wanted a train set too. I don’t have a place for it anymore.
Had another camping night last night with the Grands at our youngest daughter’s. Our eldest, mother of the Grands, was going on a romantic date according to Michaela (6). According to Lauryn’s FB post they are too old, she is 33 he is 36, for a 10pm movie start and went home after dinner instead of the movie.
My cousin’s granddaughter who lost her parents in the last three years joined us with her 2 month old and 3 year old.
Tragic news out of our neighbouring province today.

I am reading a series of books by Pamela Kelley. The first is The Nantucket Inn. The books are easy reading but evoke images of fine food, good wine, the beach, romance and the Inn. They are inexpensive on Amazon 5.00 I believe.
I am also hooked on Nights In Rodanthe which has scenes of the Outer Banks in NC. A cute Nicholas Sparks adaptation starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. It is from 2008 or 2009. I am actually signed up to go to the Inn which is really a private house that rents rooms and attend a book retreat there. There will be classes on writing in the morning, then the afternoon to write or sight see and then an activity in the evening.
Both the books and the movie relax me. I certainly have read more literary works in the past and am part of a book group. They are reading Born a Crime by Trevor Noah this month. I have already read this book. I have much less time than in the past and struggle to read the assigned books.
Has anyone read The Salt Path by Raynor Winn. This is a true story of a couple and their walk on a path near the ocean in Britian. The husband had a neuromuscular disease but seemed to grow stronger with the walking
The visit from Paul's nephew and his son went well. I had to lay down for an hour because I was so tired.
My husband did real well though. He has ALS but he is better rested than me. I am writing this at 3:30 am while he sleeps. I am awaiting Fall and the opportunity to walk in fresh air!
