Michele - This is my duster, which it says is currently unavailable, but there are other suggestions on the page. I am finding it very addictive. In this older house we have picture rails etc.

Wrote to my boss/supervisor, whatever you want to call her and basically asked her where the heck the disconnect/miscommunication went awry? Very politely, but firmly. I explained that I'm only asking for the equipment I left on my desk back in March 2020. I asked her why she was asking someone, who has nothing to do with my medical assistance billing job, why I need this equipment back after I told her verbally last spring, in an email last spring and several emails over the summer and fall. I told her that I felt very disrespected for that and I was sorry if she felt this email was in any way disrespectful. It was simply what I felt. I said that due to the headache I've suffered daily all week, it became unbearable today (yesterday) I was leaving early. I also said that the money that I bring into the district can be used to purchase the equipment I need to do my job so I don't have to deal with neck, back and eye strain.
So......... we'll see if I still have a job on Monday.

You might check with HR on the laws regarding making your workspace ergonomically appropriate for you. In California, if you mention it to any manager or to HR, they are required by law to provide it. Some companies will even send an ergonomic expert to look at your work area so that you get what you need and that it fits you.
You should not be expected to work in an uncomfortable environment, especially when what you're asking for is very easy and inexpensive to provide and especially when you work for a public organization. It's affecting your health and well-being too. There is no excuse for them.

Sue oh my gosh that fire must be close! Stay safe! I don't know how you could evacuate with goats and horses.

One thing I learned from listening to years of podcasts from "The Minimalists: is to ask myself "How could my life be better with less?" Several years ago we stopped giving gifts and told friends and family to not give us anything.
I have no new news about the problem with my eye. The visit yesterday was diagnostic and the results will be sent to the retina specialist. It was the test where you sit stationary for five minutes with your chin on a rest with one eye covered and stare at a light and click every time you see a light flash in the bowl, then do the same thing with the other eye.
My Sunday morning walking friend can't walk tomorrow so we walked at noon today. Much too warm for both of us. I might need to take a nap

Barbara - I did pause for a moment before thanking her and refusing the gift. This isn't the first time she's given me and/or DH gifts that were expensive and/or not something we'd use. Generally they come with a "I saved the receipt if you want something else". I have given her the "a card and a gift card is perfect" lecture many times. Small things like a shelf sitter or little cooking gadget is easy to stick in the garage then take to the thrift store later. She said she'd give the garden thing to her sister for HER birthday. Whew. It was a seat on wheels. I already had one my neighbor gave me that I'm giving to the thrift store - it's too low, too unstable, and I don't have any use for it. That's why my neighbor who is also tall got rid of it. The only way to get off it is fall off, seriously. I have a taller little bench that's the perfect height plus can be flipped for a kneeler.
OK enough on that.
My mom used to be a good one for going to Florida in the winter and hitting flea markets. She was constantly sending me crocheted toilet paper roll covers and like. I finally said Mom.... please STOP with the stuff. Save your money. Or donate it and don't get anything in return. Just give them $5 for their cause or something. Then she got a great idea... she started cleaning out her closets and drawers and sent me my old report cards and things I'd left at her house that were really fun to look at and didn't take up space.
DH and I had a good arrangement. Throughout the year we'd buy what we wanted and say to the other "look at these new shoes (or tool) This is my birthday present or Christmas present from you. Thank you, it's perfect!"
Barbara - great job with the drawers. I rearranged my bathroom cabinet drawers last winter - I too found that some of the larger Dollar Tree baskets didn't fit. Or didn't leave room for anything else = wasted space. I've been saving small plastic mushroom containers - they hold 8 oz and are sturdy. I could wedge a couple of those next to a Dollar Tree basket. Isn't it nice to be able to find things? Your kitchen drawers are awesome. That's for THIS winter, and the thrift store will get a big haul.
Carla - I bet you'll have a job to go back to. Boy how frustrating though. Tina had good points about ergonomics. Could you have kept working remotely? Or at least until they are really ready with your office situation?
Sue - oh my word, how close is the wildfire for you to get ashes? We are getting really nasty smoke coming from a fire about 70 miles east of us near White Pass/Packwood. No ash but stinging eyes, hard to breathe. Air is eerily yellow. Hopefully you and I will get some onshore flow tomorrow and break this stuff up.

Lanette - Bolt Creek fire is just 3 towns east of us along Hwy 2. Stevens Pass and part of the highway are closed. The town of Index has been evacuated and we are on alert. Has burned about 2000 acres so far. We don't anticipate a problem but will hitch up horse trailer just in case.

Sue - wow. I hope you'll be safe. I just saw parts of Index are being evacuated. Is there someplace designated as a holding area for horses and farm animals? I see we have a lot of farmers around here ready to head east with their own trailers and bring threatened livestock to their own safe pastures far from the fire, plus our Fairgrounds is ready as well. I love how our community pulls together in times like this.
We're being affected by smoke from the Goat Rocks fire, and I just read Hwy 12 is closed from Packwood to White Pass. Looks this fire has grown to 1500 acres. I haven't seen a report from our DEM but looking at the Seattle News Feeds.
Please keep us posted. Sending hugs and prayers the fires are contained soon.

PS -The smoke here doesn't seem as thick right now, I sure hope the winds from the coast arrive soon.2 -
PIP you were burning some calories, girl! Awesomeness! Congrats!!!

Sue ... your leg was under the riding mower?? I assume the blades were not engaged. Still, that sounds like a good way to break something.
Lanette ... Yay for you on already seeing electric cost savings! I haven't made enough changes yet to see a difference.
Pip ... congratulations on finishing your ride and on passing the $1000 mark!
Carol ... I am not able to declutter anything of my husband's, especially if it's supposedly "on display." If it's junk and papers strewn all over the house ... those I gather and put in a box and make him sit down with me and go through everything ... otherwise, I tell him, I'll toss it all.
Carla ... I hope you have a job on Monday only because I hope the people you work for paid attention to your email and realize your worth and address your concerns.
Today, I reminded my husband that the garage had to be cleaned out since we're closing the pool early (roof being replaced and not wanting debris to land in the pool) and need to get to the stored covered. It was buried behind so much stuff that we had collected in just 3 months!! We worked on it together all day (he seems to need my presence whether I d0 anything or not ... what is up with that) and it hardly looks any different. Truth is he really should have an out-building for most of what's in the garage. But he also needs to let things go. I tossed almost everything that was mine.
Making progress in getting my mother to NY. A Medicare Broker is helping me with the change of insurance due to a new state and a conversation with a skilled nursing facility social worker here in NY was an absolute godsend in explaining the details of transferring my mom to rehab and then to an assisted living facility. Traveled to OH and worked with my mom's banks (that was incredibly frustrating and we're going to just close one account on the bank's advice) and visited with my mom as well. She is giving recovery her best effort. She really is tough, but it breaks my heart to leave her each time. I'll be back out there again on Wednesday as I want to attend her surgical follow-up appointment with her. The surgeon's opinion as to when she can safely travel is the one piece that everything else hinges on.

I recognize the area- Steven's Pass- How close is the fire to Lake Stevens? I have an aunt and cousin there and cousins and a friend in Mt. Vernon.1 -
Heather – did your pole come basically with two poles – one for making it a duster and another that is the extension?
Lanette – that’s what Vince and I do for some gifts (mostly clothes). I buy it, try it on, then give it to him to give to me. At least I know it fits and that I like it...lol
Michele NC1 -
Pip & Machka - this made me think of you.

Lake Stevens is probably getting smoke and ash. They are about 50 miles from the Bolt Creek Fire. Mt. Vernon is actually closer to another fire farther north. Bolt Creek fire is now about 5000 acres. They have set up facilities for evacuees at the fairgrounds in Monroe.

Barbara, you go girl! I love me some drawer organizers.
Beth, prayers for you as you continue to help your mother. As for me and mine, I'm taking her to a lawyer on Monday to at least get a will in writing. She never felt the need before because everything was in Daddy's name. Even with a will, it's going to be a mess one day. I don't see my brother playing nice, but it is what it is. I'm hoping to have my mother for a really long time so that we don't have to deal with it anytime soon.
Barbie, our eye doctor makes us do that test every year. I hate it!
Sue, prayers for safety.
Carla, good grief! How stressful. I hope your boss listens to you.
I'm struggling with my eating and exercise goals at the moment. It's still a very stressful time and I am hanging in as best I can. I'll be ok, but it is just taking time.
