Rebecca ~ Love the photos! You look so pretty with longer hair! Please keep it that way. Your sister and niece are pretty too. A pretty bunch of ladies!

Thanks Carol! Many have a "filter" on the photo so technically I am not that gorgeous! My gray hair is getting more manageable as its growing.ππ»π

Woke up feeling well, first time in a few days. I'm so grateful when I do. Not just grateful to feel well, but grateful to wake up. Not being morbid, honest. Just glad I'm here.
So grateful too, for the images of your lives - Rebecca, you and all the women in your family are beautiful, and when your sister was able to put her sadness to the side for the moment, the smiles were just blinding; Karen - thank you for the pic of Olivia and her mom. Those blond curls just slay me; Heather, your beautiful Edie, and Tracey, your gorgeous little Michaela looks so pleased with her glasses! It's nice when they're old enough to understand that they need them. I remember my sister's tussles with my three-year-old niece when she would rip them off every time my sister turned her back--my sis found them all over the house!
I have been off the antidepressant for a bit now (and weaned down from it very carefully, I might add.) It's been interesting to see my gamut of emotions return. Don't worry, I'm not wandering around the yard behind the little animals--Egg wouldn't put with it for a minute anyway! I just didn't realize how flat my affect was until I started feeling the emotions again. I'm laughing more, which is great, but I'm also crying more too. Cried on my sister's shoulder on the phone yesterday (hey, she said I could. )
After the last few years, I really needed to give Corey a break and lay all that emotion on someone else. I owed him to try to find someone else who could listen to me fall apart. He's been my rock, but even rocks wear over time. For most of the men I've known, the worst thing you can do to them is to hand them an issue they can't resolve at any level.
Anyway - today is a better day. Hope everyone has a good day.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
I appreciate your nice words friend.π. Its been a whirlwind of emotions, even to the point of physical manifestations in me. My belly tightness returned periodically, which was only relieved by hot showers or baths. After visiting with middle son, daughter inlaw, and Athena, I had an awful night at our hotel last night. Up at 2 am on, trying to deal with all the tightness. A hot bath at 2 and 4 am then we left the hotel at 6 am. I will talk to my doctor about it.ππ»

Lee and I had a great visit with middle son, his wife and of course Athena. I didn't bother to take photos, but just hearing her call me Grandma, and playing with her Wednesday Thursday and most of Friday was so much fun! She had fun with Grandpa when he arrived Friday afternoon. We took them out to dinner, and though she had to "go potty" 5 times throughout the meal, it was great! She ate my croutons even with the bleu cheese dressing on them. She tried a couple bites of Grandpa's chicken parmesan.π. She ate fries but not her macaroni and cheese. 3 year olds are always changing what they like!π. The meal for all of us was over $120! I had trout and ate some. I remember why I never ordered trout. Too many bones!
The next day Saturday, we slept in, and met them at my mother in-laws place. She is 90 and a spitfire. Athena was polite but didn't go to her. She hasn't really been around anyone that old so definitely something to get used to. Then in the afternoon after her nap, they came to our hotel and swam in the pool. Athena had floaties, and had never swam in a pool that big before. She did well! It was fun seeing her doing things and yelling, "I did it"! They ordered pizza and ate in our room. We giggled as Athena made funny faces and model poses in front of a huge mirror.π
I miss her already.
She got her hair trimmed. About 6 inches.
I think she looks older than 3.
An older pic where she is wearing my apron.π. It warms my heart every time she wears it.ππ

Rebecca Athena stops my heart! That photo in your apron is a keeper.

Jam0525 - You have suffered terribly. Sorry for your losses.
Lanette - I often think I would like someone to walk with, but like you I want to do things on my own time not be set to someone elseβs timetable.
Rebecca - sorry your belly was not behaving for your hotel stay. Athena is so cute, I bet she loves the shorter hair.
Iβm just quickly flying through tonight. Michaela didnβt leave until 620 or so, then I tidied and my cousin called. Had a quick bath and Rodger came home. Another weekend come and gone so fast!
Here is the piece I painted for Lauryn.

Rebecca - Thank you for sharing your experiences and photos. Lovely Athena! It's not surprising you had some physical reactions, but it's just as well to get it checked out. You have been through so many emotions with your sister and then to feel that surge of love. (((HUGS))) my friend. I'm sure you will feel a bit flat for a while.
Weather awful today, but we can lay low. DH is cooking chicken stew.
Kim - I use smoked haddock, preferably undyed, but that is hard to find. I usually get mine from the fish harbour, but I used dyed last night from a reputable supermarket. The recipe that i like is Delia Smith's. I add thawed frozen peas to the rice. Not classic, but nice. . Check the salt before adding more as the poaching liquid varies depending on the curing of the fish. My harbour one is very salty. I also like some half fat crΓͺme fraiche with it, on top at the end.

September has been a challenge and I hope October will be better. I have been lonely by myself in the apartment, & feeling isolated. On the plus side, DH is getting better in a skilled nursing facility. I donβt know when I will get to see him. I hope October will be better for both of us.4

Rebecca: I am glad you had such a good visit with the family. So sorry you had tightness and were up at night. Hopefully, once you are home this will resolve.
Annie: Sounds difficult with your Mom and rather scary as well. You just can't predict what she will try and do. Your doing an amazing job caring for her and can't control everything. Please don't exhaust yourself trying to control what cannot be controlled.
Lanette: I am all about boundaries, but need to do a better job at setting boundaries with a smile. I tend especially with DH to get gruff because I don't know how to be assertive in a pleasant way. But I really must end the day at 8pm. I have stamina to go beyond 8pm.
Kim: Your entertaining at your house sounds lovely! I got in hot water because I wanted to have table cloths at my son's rehearsal dinner in May and they did not want table cloths. This was going to be in the church hall after the rehearsal. I ended up not going to the rehearsal dinner and had dinner with my family from out of town instead. It was much better for me!
Machka: So glad you got to work in the garden!
Heather: I hope your DH is feeling better and that you get a good start on your book of poetry.
Carol: We are keeping an eye on the weather here in Middle GA. Don't expect a hurricane like FLA but might get some wind from this.
Jam0525: Sounds like a rough time. My sympathy on the passing of your son and husband. Sounds like a group of women gave you strength to endure. Welcome back to this group of ladies.
I am fasting for blood work at 10:30. It is only 7:30. I hope I can make it. I still need to get my husband up and drive to the doctor's office. I hate the parking lot. It is too big and congested and frankly I don't know how many years more I can handle it. I was suppose to have blood work done 6 months ago and didn't go so I fear being dropped if I don't make it this morning. Sorry to be complaining. The weather has been lovely and the rest of the day should go well!6 -
Machka - all things considered, if I were in your shoes, I would crave that flat affect of the antidepressant as well. It has, without a doubt, been helpful in dealing with all the doctors, labs, etc., for me these last couple of years. It definitely did the job it was supposed to for me in reining in some struggles with my impulse control, as well.
Katla - Many hugs, my dear. Alone in a strange place and worried every waking moment about the one we love is really hard. Do you have access to books, movies, anything that can get you absorbed in something besides fretting about the situation? I hope October is better for you both...
Jean in NM- Welcome back to unstinting support from an amazing group of women. Your strength in standing up to the years just past is more than I can even imagine.
Mary - Welcome home!
Terri - Welcome back from your trip!
Heather - I am madly in love with the whimsical Bea. Can't help it. Such joie de vivre in that gaze...
Rebecca - Strong emotions can wreak havoc on your gut, so I'm glad you're talking to your doctor. If you go to this link, the gut information is a scroll well down the page. It's an overwhelming amount of information, so I have to take it in small chunks (https://www.apa.org/topics/stress/body). Athena is so lovely.
On that note, I've slept 17 of the last 24 hours and apparently needed it. Not sure why now, but it is welcome.
Received a letter from the Social Security people that they need to talk to me about my work history, so will be calling them today. This is the disability application they made me file in January, which was supposed to take six months to process... Karen, all my sympathy with dealing with them on your brother's behalf. The last thing I had to clear up was that they had my birthplace as Minot, North Carolina, which does not actually exist. Some hapless clerk had entered Minot, NC, in some computer file buried in the system, instead of Minot, ND, and it became a two-week delay. I have no idea what they want to discuss today, but I'm sure it will be something I'm not expecting, so not sweating it.
Hope everyone has/had or is having a lovely Monday.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR7 -
Thanks Lanette! Always good to remember our Gold Star families.
I'm so glad that hubby is improving, Katla.
DARLING pix of Athena, Rebecca! IDK about you, but hair always looks healthier to me when those ends are cut. And she's such a looker!
Off to work!

I've had a really interesting morning! I tackled the bottom of my memory box, where a stash of letters resided. Fascinating! So many memories revived.
Two letters from my father, not long before I got married in 1970 , were of the greatest interest. He only wrote to me on those occasions and both times were about crises in my mother's life.
Another was from an old boyfriend, who later had an important public position. I obviously made a greater impression on him than he did on me. I wrote about him in Therefore I Am.
Seeing the handwriting of my grandmother and my godmother was a little tweak to the heart. Recognised my godmother straight away.
I have left until this afternoon a huge bundle of letters from my ex, from my university days. He graduated a year before me and worked in the Midlands. Quite a few of other people's letters refer to the fact that he had shingles very badly in his right eye. He stayed with me for a couple of weeks in my student room while that was acute.
It's been quite a walk through old times.

Katla, Is there a place you can walk, TV you can watch, books you can read? Did you bring your knitting supplies and needles? Are there people to talk to? There are lots of ways to busy yourself so you don't feel so lonely.

Liking this quote today.
Listened to a Dr Chatterjee podcast today where a brain surgeon said how important it is for older people to do new things out of their comfort zone. Keeps the wiring firing.
