Glad you had a good trip, Terri. Can't help feeling envious of your grandson. When I went to uni in 1967, I just sent a large trunk ahead by British Rail, then got on a train, still aged 17, and went to Bristol. I think a couple of other girls were in the carriage with me from my school. No parents involved!
I didn't take my son's to uni either, but my ex did. These days you do seem to need a lot of domestic equipment, and our car was completely full in the back. I remember waving them off. I was separated by then, but not yet divorced. My elder son went to Glasgow, which is a long way from London!
Your trip does sound very 'full on', but it's a good feeling when you've done your best. Your grandson will remember it.
My elder son made me laugh when he said he usually cooked at his girlfriend's flat, often for the whole flat, for free food. I asked him why he cooked over there and not at his own shared flat. He said, "Because she's got better pans." That told me! His, I bought from Argos. Hers were John Lewis.
Sorting out the contents of my box before I put them back. I've curated the letters  , now to tackle the rest. When I publish my poems I want to add a bit of context to the 'chapters', so this has been helpful. Especially with regard to my sister-in-law, my ex's sister, who was killed in an awful car crash when I was 24 and she was 29. We lived in the same house that we all had converted together into flats. She died in 1974. Seems like only yesterday. It was an important marker in my life.

Someone I follow posted this on Facebook this morning. I'm not sure if her intent is to be cathartic or just to announce freedom from her own and other's expectations. Or??? Lots of food for thought here. Feel free to skip.I am becoming cynical. I think quite honestly it is a natural progression after years of perceived freedom. As I age I realize I was just really good at conforming, adapting. After a few life altering ( and life threatening) situations, and being a self reflecting loner, my paradigm has shifted but not without cost. But the cost was and is my perception of letting go of societal demands.
Some days I feel as though I am a child again on a swing trying to touch the sky with my feet. Other days my feet are laden with wet cement and I struggle just to get one foot in front of the other.
I embrace my peculiarities and oddisms.I can no longer compete with them or even want to. Age allows me to say good bye to constrained efforts, lost causes and hello to fresh starts and new beginnings.
I dream now. I am no longer afraid of not achieving my dream. Just thinking about it gives me great pleasure with nary a naysayer because no one is allowed in my dreams without specific permission from me. I am thrilled I still know how to dream, be in the moment and feel happy by pure thought. No one one will ever take that away from me and I smile...a huge *I have a secret and I am not letting anyone in on it *smile. To share my dreams is to burst my dreams. This is one cynicism I have come to terms with.
As a result, I am becoming quieter. I think. Therefore I Am.
Anyhow, I've read it three times now and each time I get a different message.

Tracey, Thanks for writing about the "do not disturb" function on the phone. I found the setting and set up for 9PM to 6AM. Since I've gotten back from camp, I've gotten phone calls every night around 3AM from a number I don't recognize. So I"ve been silencing my phone when I go to bed. The last two nights "do not disturb" setting kept the phone quiet. What a treat and I don't have to remember to turn my ringer back on in the morning.

Good morning ladies!
Well, I got my Covid booster and flu shot, and now both my arms are sore. It will pass. I need to buy groceries today, but I could use a nap first. So nothing much going on, but I still enjoy checking in with all of you!

Terri ~ It was so sweet of you to help get your grandson off to Uni. Glad he had a nice dorm room. When I was in college, my room was tiny with bunk beds and a community bath for all on my floor.
Allie ~ Love the pic of grandson looking out the screen door. How old is he now? It seems like yesterday when you were waiting for his birth.
Viv ~ Your road trip and getting lost was probably fun in the long run.
Rosemarie ~ Your worry about the coming storm is very valid! I pray that you will not lose electricity and that all will be well. My husband told sister-in-law that they cold come up and stay with us if needed. They are in Port Charlotte, Fla which is south of Tampa.
Small Rant:Have any of you done an old age stupid thing you regret? I have been thinking I needed a new mattress and finally ordered a rather expensive mattress topper from Amazon. When it arrived, it was too heavy for me to move and DH had to use the dolly to get it into the house. Got it on the bed last night and off the bed this morning. Turns out it made the bed too high for my 5'1" bod to climb on. Then it was so soft that turning over was a pain. Finally, it made sleeping on it very hot. Now, I have to figure out how to repackage and get it to the UPS store for return.

Carol - Not stupid at all, how were you to know? One of the things that has helped when I order things online is that I read lots and lots of other people's reviews. That's how I often find out things like "too heavy," or "too hot," and move on to another product. I'm 5'2", and I have a step beside the bed because I have a 4" mattress topper that I love. You can also change whether a mattress or topper is too hot by putting a different mattress cover on it--not sure you can change it from being too soft though!5

Third phone call was the charm, and was totally surprised to hear an actual voice instead of a recording with Social Security yesterday - she was lovely, very helpful, and let me know she would hopefully be able to get the decision posted by the end of the week. I won't hold my breath, but it would be wonderful to have it settled. This is the disability decision, something I never anticipated applying for, and am not assuming in any way will be awarded.
The day ended well. The lasagna was a hit, and was able to freeze three more good meals from it. The request for tonight is bacon burgers for Corey, and I'll nosh around the edges. My entire effort consisted of getting out bacon to thaw.
Today is the very first autumn morning, that first day where the air is truly cool. Yesterday morning, it was the autumn sunlight, bright around the edges without the summer haze, but still far too warm, was kind of off balance all day.
Exhausted for some reason.
Nap time.
Those in the path of Ian, stay safe!
Love y'all,

Rebecca--Love the pictures of you, your sister and niece. You and your sister look so much a like.
Eye doctor yesterday went really well. No change so didn't have to order new glasses. So good for another year.
Karen-- Olivia is getting so grown up. Sending prayers for Josie and the doctors at St Judes.
KJ--Sometimes our kids make us so proud.Glad DH is going to get checked out.
Tracey--Looks like you both had a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed your special birthday gift.
Jam0525--So sorry for your loss, no words.
Allie--Miles is a cutie.
Terri--Sounds like a busy weekend, but spent well.
Carol--I have done way more then I like to admit things like that. It sounds good and I am sure it will be a great deal. Only to end up sorry and having to send back.
Had the visit with my employee and because there are steps we have to go thru to let someone go. I told her we are on step 3 of 5 and she needs to think hard about what she plans to do as I am not going to put up with her behavior. So will see.

Another rough night. Four baths later, slept all over the house, in recliner, on couch, in bed, in bath, everywhere! Just whole abdomen tight, and the only thing that feels good was lying in hot water. Its now almost 11 am and I was able to sleep for two hours while Lee was at gym. Hadn't eaten since 2 yesterday, so at 8 am I had a cup of chicken broth, and just now after sleeping had 2 saltines. Nothing sound particularly good. Its not the flu, its not just an upset belly. I was really gurgling though at about 3 am. Its like my insides have a side ache. Called doctor and have an appointment for Thursday 1:40. This is nuts.

Rebecca, Have you ever had diverticulitis?
So sorry you are dealing with that bellyache! It's miserable.

Taught water exercise this morning, regular instructor is in hospital. I much prefer being in the water to being on the deck but the class is so large that they cannot see or hear if I am in the pool. Anyhow I got my workout in. Really smokey again this morning. DD has been sick. She tested for Covid but was negative. I think the smoke has contributed to a sinus infection. She was feeling better and went to work today. Vegetable beef soup tonight for dinner.
Rebecca - hope you feel better soon.
Terri - glad you got the DGS safely off to school. Sounds like a good trip.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Rebecca did you take your temperature? If not do that just to make sure that you do not have some type of infection. My daughter had really bad stomach pains and it ended up being cysts on her ovaries and other areas. She did however have a temperature so that alerted the doctors. One of her cysts was leaking. She has endometriosis.

Evening ladies
This is Carmine ,Kyle and Miles with mom taking picture apple picking this past weekend.. Miles will be 9 months old on the 7th of October.10 -
Rebecca: I was wondering if it was your appendix, but diverticulitis or ovarian cysts may be better possibilities. I think taking your temperature is a good idea and maybe calling to see if there is a way you can get in earlier than Thursday. Am I right in thinking that this is getting worse than a few days ago?
Grandmalle and Carol: Sounds like you both will have family right in the storm. I will be thinking about them as the storm approaches.
Katla: Glad you are doing some knitting. Have you met any one at your apartment to say hi to?
Heather: Stores are shut on Tuesdays in France? I had no idea. I guess I live in a bubble!
V: Sounds like a great visit!
Terri: Sound's better than my son's freshmen dorm. It was terribly small and I hated leaving him there!
Tonight by zoom I start a course called A Course in Miracles for Writers. I know very little about it so it will be an adventure! This will be once a week through November. I signed up on a lark because I am limited in how often I can get out of the house!3 -
Rebecca: I hate to be a nervous Nelly, and to make you nervous, but as you probably know that an isolated infection can become a much bigger problem if it somehow gets into your body and especially your blood stream. This can cause a blood pressure drop. So please go to the ER if you feel that this is not going away and is indeed getting worse.6

Well my arm hurts from my booster shot so I skipped my dumbbells today. I've been trying to take a nap all day. So now I will just go to bed early.

I have met several people at the apartment building, and have had meals with several pleasant people. 😊
