@shanaber Hobbes looks so dignified, as always, wearing his bow tie! I hope they got the coyote some help. It's clearly hurt, and badly enough to overcome the skittishness they usually have. We have them everywhere is TX too but it's rare to actually see one. I hear them yipping from time to time though.eleanorhawkins wrote: »Making up missed miles is never a good idea, remember your goal is to finish your race. Yes, exactly! I am such a perfectionist. I like things to go to plan. Usually that works to my benefit with training because I am really good about not skipping runs and rescheduling them if something unexpected comes up. This injury is pushing me into being more flexible, and that is hard for me.4 -

@martaindale yes, exactly, one of the reasons I'm trying a time and zone based plan now instead of miles and pace is because if those numbers are there I will either force myself to nail them, whether or not I should, or be convinced the world will end if I don't!3 -

Great job in getting out and getting your run in @tarun_yadavA .
Thank you 😊 @quilteryoyo1 -
I worked from home today so opted to get outside for a run at lunch when it was sunny and 48F instead of before work when it was dark and 25F. I did a 40-minute lower body workout this morning that involved a lot of plyo jumping alternating with weighted moves. The lady I am following was a former track athlete so she's all about strengthening the glutes and everything lower body.
@shanaber - I understand about the hot and dry weather being hard also. I never knew how dry it was on that side of the country until I hiked the Grand Canyon last year and Utah this year. Thanks for the Hobbes fix! He's so darn cute!
@quilteryoyo - Are you running the Greeneville Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday morning? Our track club is timing it and I may end up helping out if the timing coordinator doesn't get a couple more volunteers.

Stuck to the treadmill again last night. Watched a movie to help keep me distracted. I had to wait until evening, so it was dark (not usually a problem), 40 F (cold but again not usually a problem), and raining (individually, not a problem). The combo was more than I could handle. Per the discussion earlier this month, cold and wet is a combo I just don't like to mess with if I can avoid it. It's the one time I allow myself to break the "train in all conditions because you never know what race day will bring" mantra. The chance of me getting 40's and rain during my race weekend is really low. I am more likely to deal with slightly too warm temps in FL than anything.
I cut the run a couple miles short because my lower calf and Achilles started hurting and I was trying to make good decisions. I'm a little stiff this morning. I have another run scheduled today and a massage this evening.6 -
@Teresa502 You're so good about getting strength workouts done! I'm trying to work a few exercises into the routine. Baby steps. I had such intentions heading into this training cycle of doing strength work. I have really fallen off of it as the time commitment has climbed. I need to win the lottery so I don't need to work and can schedule my life around my hobbies instead of work!5

😭😭😭 My left Achilles started hurting today on this run. The right one was a little achy from the beginning but got really sore after the first few miles. About that time, the left one also started hurting. While it was definitely uncomfortable the amount of pain was relatively stable. Everything I've been reading doesn't suggest taking a total rest as it's not necessarily helpful in this situation, as long as you're not pushing the effort. A lot of articles specifically mentioned laying off of speed work and high intensity workouts. So, I'm focusing on keeping the pace easy and trying to complete the mileage. Within reason.
Also, from what I've been reading it can take a couple of weeks before any benefit from doing the exercises starts to kick in. so, I guess I should expect at least some pain while I'm running for the next couple of weeks. I just hope that it doesn't get any worse.5 -
Dang @martaindale sorry to hear about your dual Achilles pain 😒 Sucky time for this to happen, but hopefully they will loosen up soon.
@shanaber Hobbes is so handsome and regal! Love seeing pictures of him.
8 miles tonight. Wanted to get a longish run outside since it is supposed to rain the rest of the week. Was feeling good, but right after mile 2 my right calf tightened up. Stayed that way until mile 6, then loosened up. After I was done it felt right again. Need to keep an eye on it.

Just one short mile yesterday for the streak. I was pretty tired and considered walking, but it was cold and so I ran.
Today I ran 5 miles. It was am oddly nice run. It was 35°F feels like 32°. I wore capri tights and a t-shirt with sleeves and gloves. Plus my earband. I was definitely chilly starting out, but I was not overdressed. I guess I would rather be a little chilly than too warm. I just find it very uncomfortable to be cold and hot and sweaty at the same time.
When I first stepped outside the sky was clear and the stars looked really bright. But as I headed west towards the park I noticed it was foggy and soon I was completely enveloped by the fog. Then as I got close to home the sky was clearing again and the moon was just lovely.
@shanaber Great pictures of the coyote. I hope that animal control was able to help and relocate him. And Hobbes looks so handsome in his holiday wear.
@martaindale Sorry you are still having Achilles issues.

Hello everyone! 😊
9k in the rain. Wet, wet shoes - all the things!4 -
@martaindale have you considered you might need new shoes? I know when my shins start to hurt that I need to donate the pair which causes it.
@tarun_yadavA yuck to running in the rain. Stuff those shoes with paper towels!
@shanaber HOBBES is amazing! thank you for posting the photos!
I have been better about putting my miles into the challenge and I think we might make it across the ocean SOON!
@kgirlhart you are having a pretty high mileage month for Nov it seems. For you and those who wear "sleeves" tell me more about them? I haven't tried but it seems like they would bug me being tight on my arms light that.
Mileage 105.5 to date out of 120 goal.
@scott6255 it seems like we are in a drizzly rainy weather pattern. But at least it is supposed to warm up this week. Hope your calf behaves itself!!! taper time yet?
@Teresa502 that is the TRUE perk of WFH. RUnning at lunch when the morning is TOO cold. I haven't really had to use it yet but I expect Jan and Feb to be similar to your weather. I get to WFH on Tuesday and Thursday so that is my plan.6 -
@Teresa502 I did not sign up for the Turkey Trot. I have to be at my neighbors for lunch before 11, so not sure I would have time for it. I hate that I might miss seeing you though.
@martaindale I sure don't blame you for running on the treadmill with those conditions outside. And, great job on listening to your body. What race are you running? I hope your Achilles tendons don't get any worse and the exercises kick in sooner rather than later.
Great running @Scott6255 ! I hope your calf stays feeling good.
@kgirlhart Nice running and great picture of the moon.
@tarun_yadavA Nice sleasy run in the rain.
I had intended to get up early enough for a longish run yesterday, but got a late start on the treadmill. I wasn't feeling the best and once I started running knew it wasn't going to happen. I only managed a one mile run, but walked 2 miles at 3.8 mph. I started feeling some better during the walk, but by then I didn't have time to start running again. I do feel much better this morning. I was just glad yesterday wasn't race day.6 -

Training for Dopey is a huge time commitment and you are doing so good with following your plan. I loved my week in Hilton Head a couple of weeks ago. Since it was just me, I could run, walk, bike, do yoga and stretching anytime I wanted day or night. I got up at 4 am one morning to watch the lunar eclipse because I knew I could take a nap later in the day if I wanted. It was so freeing and relaxing! Now to just win that lottery so that every week can be that way!6 -

I ran 5.5 miles today. It was 53°F. That is so much better for me than 35°. 🙂 It was cloudy and pretty humid, but the nice temperature made up for it. About a half mile from home it started to feel damp. It wasn't raining, just moisture droplets in the air. I was glad I was almost home because it would probably have started to feel chilly . But all in all it was a great run. And I have hit my goal for November. 🏃♀️
@summerskier I really like wearing sleeves. I usually get too warm in a jacket and I don't like wearing a jacket tied around my waist. I can just fold the sleeves up and put them in my pocket. Plus most of my runs are early when it is still dark and I am wearing my Noxgear vest so I would have to take that off to take the jacket off and then put it back on. I have a couple of long sleeved shirts, but I prefer the removable sleeves to pushing my sleeves up when I get warm.

Checking in again. First attempt at running after the bit of surgery. I still have the sutures in thus I probably should not be running, but I tried it very carefully and they're on a place with little strain - unless I suddenly decide to point my toes like a ballet dancer. Didn't expect it to work anyway, and nope, not such a big success. But I'll get there again. Anyway, so good to be out again.8 -
Decided to give the calf a break and got on the treadmill for a slow 5 miles. The pain wasn't a zero, but maybe 0.5 or 1. So I think it will be 100% in a day or two. Whew!
Official taper starts next week. This week is just a cutback week. Marathon in 17 days! 😳

@SummerSkier give the sleeves a go, they're cheap and if you do like them they're super useful, as @kgirlhart explained. I thought they would annoy me, but I like them :-)
@yirara hang in there, sometimes it's best to let things heal properly.
@Scott6255 glad the calf is calming down, enjoy the taper crazies!
This is going to be a funny week for me where running is concerned. The last full week of the month is always a cutback week on these new plans I'm following, so I knew mileage was going to be low. Probably for the best, though seeing the low monthly totals after months of higher mileage is messing with my head a bit.
Anyway, I swapped the 2-hour mountain run for 2 hours in the countryside/hills on Monday as I didn't have a car to get to the mountain. There's a very small (not quite 2 miles) race nearby on Sunday as part of events to mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women, so I signed up for that and decided warming up for it and running it would count as the 45-minute progression run. That left me with 2x45 min easy runs to do. BUT then I saw the big running club from the city was doing an evening mountain run last night and I couldn't miss the opportunity to get in some technical training in the dark! It was very slow and the footing was very tricky... these mountains are very rocky and sandy, so they scare the *kitten* outta me but I definitely need the experience on them! There was one point on the way back down that I had slammed the brakes on so much that the fast group was out of sight, and the very very slow group was a long way behind me so I was basically on my own in the dark on the side of a mountain. Character building, that stuff.
The great thing about that group is their Wednesday sessions really are for all levels, the speedy types go ahead and the slower types stay at the back and they all regroup regularly. Shame I don't live closer so can rarely train with them.

Good Morning everyone!
Got my 9K in!
I hope all you guys in the US have a lovely Thanksgiving!
Enjoy your 'Turkey trots' ... And actual Turkeys too! 😊7 -
I'm back! Been a while.
It's getting too cold for cycling so I put away the bike for winter, and finally finally I got so antsy that I convinced my lazy self that running would be a good idea. 3km to start turning back into a runner.9
