There was a 5K today at the park near my house. I had not planned to run it. My sisters and I were planning to get together with my Mom today to put up her Christmas decorations and I wasn't sure what time. Then it was forcasted to be raining all morning, so even after we decided that we would get together at 3, I didn't sign up. But when I got up this morning it was not raining so I decided to go ahead and run it. So I signed up and headed over to the park. I got my bib and ran a one mile warm up. They changed the route from the last few years and I really liked the new route better. There was a pretty good hill early on. It's funny because I often run that road, but I am usually running down that hill and not up. There was a woman pretty close behind me and I wasn't sure if she was in my age group or not so I just focused on staying ahead of her and tried to stay far enough ahead that she wouldn't be able to catch me. She told me later that she was just trying to stay with me, so I think it helped us both run a better race. My total time was 28:17. And while it wasn't a PR, it was enough to be 1st overall female. It was a small race, but I was still pretty pleased. I was 1st of 19 women and 10th of 34 overall. The race is a fundraiser for our local Humane Society, so in addition to a medal, I got ball for my dog and a kit to make an ornament of your pet's pawprint. It started raining after I got home and rained all day. I did go over to my Mom's to decorate for Christmas. I'm not sure if I will run tomorrow or not, but if I do I will probably not run a long run.
Congratulations on finishing faster than you hoped @quilteryoyo! I knew you could do it!
Congratulations to you too @Fit2btied2016! Looks like it was lots of fun!

@kgirlhart - well done on the 5k run
So this is London this morning... Icy, snow flakes, very foggy. I still feel rough. So sitting this one out. Gonna wear joggers and a sweatshirt and watch Christmas movies on Sunday5 -
Awesome race @quilteryoyo! You went into beast mode!
Way to go on your race too @Fit2btied2016! Very nice that you ticked off all of your goals!
@kgirlhart - super impressive 1st place female finish er! We sure have some strong women here!
Weather is looking good this morning. Wish I could have slept last night 😒
Will try to get a report out by the end of the day or tomorrow. Thanks for the support ❣️4 -
@Fit2btied2016 Woohoo! Great racing and congrats for hitting all your goals. That race looks like a lot of fun. I could see why you would want to make it an annual thing. As for what’s happening to you, sounds like you got the running bug!
@quilteryoyo Awesome work! I can’t wait to read your race report.
@kgirlhart Way to go first place female finisher! And a race for a good cause.2 -
Yesterday I decided to head to the trails for a change of scenery so I went to a local park and ran 8 miles on the trails there. The park doesn’t open until 8:30 and I usually prefer starting before then but I had the day open yesterday so it worked out well. Stuck to the outer trails where less people go. I only met one runner, saw lots of squirrels and a few deer. I saw a couple of walkers as I was nearing the nature center/parking lot. The park recently got two baby bobcats and they are so cute. I had to go by their enclosure and check them out when I finished.
@quilteryoyo – Congratulations on your race! Great pictures. Hope you get to enjoy some family time today.
@Fit2btied2016 – Congratulations on your 5k and exceeding your goals! Love the pictures – you look very happy!
That’s an awesome 5K run @kgirlhart! Congratulations on being 1st Female!! Love seeing your smiling face and how fun that your dog got a prize too!
Hope today’s rest is just what you need to get better @tarun_yadavA.
I just checked and @Scott6255 is “waiting to start” his marathon.

@Teresa502 One thing I am looking forward to the most about finishing this marathon training cycle is getting back to the trails. The mileage is too much for me to throw the technical difficulty of trails into the mix, not to mention the risk of injury. But I really miss the trails. I have a camping trip booked the weekend after my race and I plan on getting some short hikes in. I really love being out on a trail!3

No, you do not want to throw roots and rocks into your training cycle! I haven't been able to hike much lately because its that time of year with so much holiday stuff going on and work has been crazy also. I definitely felt the trails calling yesterday!4 -
Anyone remember what time @Scott6255 needs for his BQ? Following the tracker!1
-
I was just about to ask the same thing @polskagirl01 . Do you know how old he is? I'm following him too. Looks like he's doing great! Afraid he may be a little behind BQ pace though. If he's between 60-64 he needs 8:46 min/mile pace.
We're cheering for you Scott. You can do it!2 -
I found this list, but don't know his age either. Currently pretty close if 60 or older, but has 10 miles to go. Hopefully he didn't go out too fast.0

@quilteryoyo Great race and great pics!!
@Fit2btied2016 Congratulations!!! The glow from that first race never goes away.
@kgirlhart Well done on your first place!!!
I've decided lurking is much more enjoyable than working.8 -
Congratulations @Scott6255 on a great race!!! I'm looking forward to reading your race report. In the meantime, I hope you are relaxing and eating all the food!3

Great job on your races @quilteryoyo, @kgirlhart and @Fit2btied2016! It sounds like it was a successful day for you all!
@Fit2btied2016 That Christmas run looks like it would be a lot of fun! And it’s a good thing you didn’t have to puke .
It’s really cold here at the moment, and sounds like similarly miserable the weather by @tarun_yadavA - icy, below freezing with a bit of snow on the ground. I dragged myself out into the cold for 12.5 miles this morning and felt a bit freezing but otherwise fine.
Then we went to go cut down a Christmas tree. I am including a picture because they looked really cool with the snow. I have never in my life had to thaw out my Christmas tree before putting it up . Anyways, that was lots of fun, but now it looks like not just my son but also my daughter and myself are sick, so I’m going to have to take some unplanned rest days. Oh well! I’ll get back at as soon as I feel good again.

@Laurz9191 FYI (in case you didn't already know) Before you take your tree into the house, give it a thorough blast of bug spray. If you don't, every creepy crawly that is sheltering in it will wake up as soon as the tree warms up. Please don't ask me how I know this...6

Hey all thanks for all the support and congrats!
Yes I'm 60 so was shooting for 8:46 pace. But the course was about 0.2 miles long (everyone in our group came in over 26.46) but I'm sure it was mostly due to weaving in and out around people. So I hit my goal pace (exactly), but ended up 2 minutes off of a BQ. 😒
But it was a good race, and I bettered my marathon PR by 15 minutes. The elevation from the official map was not very accurate. It was a lot hillier than advertised, and there were 2 hills between mile 20 and 21 that were almost straight up!
So even though I am a little disappointed, I am pleased with knocking 15 minutes off. This (probably) won't be my last marathon 😏
Didn't get a 'before' picture because one of our group was late getting to the start. But here is an 'after pic. I'm in the blue, then my niece, brother (obviously) then nephew10 -

@laurz9191 and @Tramboman
Congratulations on your race @scott6255. 15 minutes off your previous time is awesome!
I ran 6.25 miles this morning. I took it pretty easy after running hard yesterday. It was chilly and cloudy, but not a bad run.

Great job, @Scott6255 ! You were so close, I'm sure you can hit your BQ goal if you keep trying. Awesome that you're running at that level!
Congratulations also to @quilteryoyo, you rocked that race!
I also love @kgirlhart not even planning to run a race, and then going and winning it!3 -
@Scott6255 - well done!!! 🙌 Amazing1

@Tramboman - Ha! Kinda like that time we discovered a mouse in our tree (among other things) after we brought it in the house...
@Scott6255 - Congratulations!! Taking 15 mins off your PR is awesome. It is too bad you missed the BQ but you now know it its definitely a possibility and plenty of time to try again! Love the picture with your family - so cool that you all ran it!3
