2/11-163-Got half my walk in and rode the horse and planted my plant tower. The plant tower is a five layer stack of plastic pots that you can keep in a small place. I grew lettuce in it all summer and winter and just pulled beets out of the bottom layer and replanted. I’ll try to remember to post a picture of it when everything sprouts.

61 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).

Goal for 214. Make the scale move and leave that stubborn number, 142.4. Diversify my exercise. Become more active on this group. I had been hoping to lose 5 lb/month for Feb, March, April, which would mean making it to 138.4 by Feb 28. Will accomplish what I can, as anything is better than what I have been doing the last year and a half. Habits are changing for the good.

History:

Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, and a DGS. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Selling family home distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse. A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

July. Adding this challenge to my routine to help keep the momentum going. There are a few challenges this week with a Super Bowl party and Valentines, so I thought this would give me an extra layer of accountability.

2/11 193.8 I went out last night. Food choices were good but I had 1 skinny marg and 3 vodka sodas during the
night. I plan on walking 6 miles today and no alcohol.

I took a few weeks off for travel and laziness. Then a week ago I badly sprained my ankle. My scale is currently going in the wrong direction, so it’s time for me to turn things around!

@shmmm3 Great idea for Valentine's day! Regarding the not weighing, when I worked in the office many years ago (I work from the home office now), I was able to sign up for Weight Watchers at work, which was great. We met weekly in the office during lunch. I lost the weight I wanted and kept it off for years. The WW leader made us all promise not to weigh more than once a week. That worked well for me. I think that sometimes when I weigh every day and have a good weight-loss day, I reward myself the next day with food. My goal is NOT to do that this round, i.e. reward myself with food. For now I do plan to weigh every day. I'm obsessed! lol

@rockinrobyn672 I worked for WW for 12 years as a receptionist. There were weeks I worked over 10 meetings. Heard plenty of leaders, and as a receptionist, I have talked with too many members to count. Anyhow, it is fantastic that you have found a weighing pattern that supports your needs and personality. Over time, I developed at different answer to the question of "how often should I weigh?". My answer was to examine oneself and figure out the frequency that is most supportive. For me, I need every day. At the same time, I know there are individuals that react badly to daily, or even weekly, results. I can argue the pros and cons for each. Interesting that you have liked different methods at different times.

02/11 -193.0- (Trend weight 195.7) A great foodie day yesterday, a horrible foodie night in front of the TV last night. God must have intervened. I didn’t really deserve this drop but I hope it will stick. I put in extra exercise last night when filled with guilt and regret. I will watch my diet today with a Grateful Heart. I hope this number sticks and continues its downward trajectory. We all know how things can show up later on the scale. Sun is out today in Northern Michigan. Unusually warm weather coming this week for February! Wow! How it lifts the spirits and makes me feel hopeful and renewed! Good luck this round everyone as we walk this path together!

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.

Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Stick with the process. It DOES work! But it does take time, effort, and most of all, patience!

It's my first time with this challenge, but I like the shorter duration; it seems mentally easier to keep track of. I gained 8 pounds over the holiday season (ended up about 103.5 lbs), but I'm trying to take daily walks and do a quick workout every day. I've been able to keep my self-control much better over the past week, so I'm happy with that start.

My details ...grrr. Active 72 yo living near Eugene, Oregon. I have lost over 50 pounds three times. Fitness Pal several years ago was a success story for me. TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly) another time. Plant base diet another time. Just started back on MFP February 9th. Getting off to a good start. 5'7' and todays weight 192 down from 197. My goal weight is 157.

Currently until I feel I have some control ...no alcohol...no eating out...fresh veggies for snacks. Trying to stick to a plant base consumption as best I can.
