Good evening ladies!
I ate 1123 calories for a deficit of 270. Not too bad. I had a little extra chocolate for my nerves.
I did my dumbbells Yay! Thirty reps at five pounds. My hands got a little damp and I was grateful for the grippy gloves. Yay!
And I did three reverse lunges on each leg. Yay! I figured out to take a bigger step back so my front knee stays in place. Now my knee stays behind my toes. And I kept my hands on a table. It's not very many, but it's a start.
And I did knee extensions and also straight leg
lifts. I can really tell my right leg is weaker, so there's work to do there.
I read most of the Strong Women Stay Young book but I'm not sure how I want to blend it in with what I do. When my knee is stronger I think I will get the adjustable ankle weights. I have a pair of two pounds each wrist weights that I use on my ankles, and I could do more.
So the dumbbell routine is going great! Yay!

Vince actually went for part of my walk around the parking lot. Admitted, he only took 2 laps and I took the other 8. But he went. He mentioned earlier that walking helped his back and that he might go for a walk when I went. I honestly didn’t think he would but I asked him anyway. I almost fell over when he said “yes”

I went to the doctor yesterday he put a shot in my knee most of the swelling is gone and I can bend it now. I can start back exercise Monday he said just take it easy.11

I am intrigued by the raspberries in pots. Are they producing well? Did you use an all purpose potting soil? Are they heavy feeders?
Many years ago we tried dwarf blueberries in pots, they didn't do well - could have been the dirt, uneven watering, the fact that they were on the south side of our yellow house. It was a cooker there, lol.
I have a better place now for potted bushes.
Spring is around the corner.

Our raspberries have grown like crazy this year (almost as tall as me now) but haven't produced yet. That is likely because my husband was confused by them. He has never worked with raspberries before, didn't water them enough at first, then pruned them way too hard. This summer he left them alone but just watered them more, and it has been a rainy year. So I am hoping for a crop next year.
We decided to grow them in pots when we saw that's how a raspberry farm here grew them.

just a quick up date, mom made it through surgery fine, did her first OT and PT yesterday. And OMG we need to get and stay strong!!!! She is to be only 25% weight bearing on her left leg for 3-6 weeks on a walker (she'll be in a rehab center) Which means her upper body (arms) need to be able to push her to standing on right leg and with arms and core muscles manage the walker, stay upright, and using only her left leg for balance not weight bearing - walk! I need to figure out some way to get more exercise... but right now each day will include 3-4 with her, 2+ hours traveling to her, 4-8 hours of running the business, 1 hour communicating with everyone who needs updates. 1 hour walking Levi, 8 hours sleeping.... I think I am running out of hours.

I agree that it is very important for us to remain or to become fit and strong as we get older ... so that we can help ourselves but also so that we can help those we love.
Can you participate in PT with your mother?
I joined Pilates classes with my husband for about a year and a half because I knew it would benefit both of us, and he would be more likely to go if I went.

It's not going to end for a while yet. They're preparing for another surge over here this winter.
I still carry a mask onto public transportation and use it if someone sits in the seat behind me or of anyone on the bus is coughing or sniffling.
And we'll be going for our 5th vax soon.

I was looking into why it seemed that melatonin didn't work for me and thinking that I needed to up my dose. But one of the things I found interesting is that "less is more" when it comes to melatonin.

I've gone off it, because it didn't seem to make any difference for me, even when I followed all the recommendations. No sense me spending money on something that doesn't seem to make a difference!

Good news. Feeling much better this morning. I slept. Miracle! I'm so glad I'm not sick. Just what my mother used to call 'off-colour'. Two nights with little sleep sent my whole system out of whack. I was asleep by 10.10. Very unusual for me.
We got up extra early so we could get our exercises done before Edie arrives. I like to get my face on for her as she always notices things. Earrings on etc.
Doing a roast winter vegetables thing for dinner tonight, with sea bass. Sweet potato, butternut squash, red onion, carrot and parsnip. It's likely DH will want broccoli as well. He is a vegetable nut, especially green.

Machka-thanks for the melatonin information. I actually bought some yesterday to try. Picked up the 5 (lowest store had) and it has b6 in it. Slept great last night-a welcome relief!
Tried a new essential oil for inflammation yesterday for the stupid foot arthritis. Mixed a few drops of frankenscense in with my cerave and it seemed to help. Just a bit of experimenting with non-drug alternatives.3 -

Gee I have the melatonin gummies and went from 5 to 10 mg and still toss and turn..when I see the dr next im going to speak with her I think I might have psoriatic arthritis.. the more I read up on it the more it tends to look that was with constant hip and thigh pain when im trying to sleep amd my left hand the thumb gives me a whole bunch of trouble..
Doing Laundry for my son today.and he will take out my trash.3 -
My latest effort at the Sunset from my Bedroom Window picture. Reasonably happy this time. I tried a looser style.
Edie did a Matilda book cover. DH copied an Art Deco poster. Great fun was had by all. Relaxing afterwards.

Like the articles I linked to say ... more is not better when it comes to melatonin. 5 - 10 mg is not going to help you sleep more than 1 - 3 mg.
Also, the articles say that melatonin is not a sleeping pill. It may offer some assistance if it is taken in lower doses and if it is taken the right way.

Heather ~ Your window paintings are looking better and better each time. Keep up the good work. You are so lucky that your DH loves vegetables. So many of us have husband's that would not mind ever seeing a green vegetable.

Veggies ... my husband and I both enjoy Veggies. 😀
Dinner tonight was mostly a large lettuce, tomato and cucumber salad. Yummy!
But we did go to a chocolate factory for brunch and had Belgian waffles topped with chocolate. Mmmmmmmm!!

Did a Body by Bethany DVD (yoga) and then walked to the store to take recyclable plastic bags. Again, I should have learned my lesson last week and left earlier. Oh well… The plan for tomorrow is to do an HIIT DVD.

I agree it's not a contest, Rebecca, but you deserve support too. Perhaps you could have worded your response a little better, but it's still the same response. You haven't heard from your sailor in three years. Some of them just don't stay in touch and as military "moms" we have to get used to that or we'll lose our minds (and hearts). Sorry they don't get that. I guess I'm one of the tough-love kinda MoMs. But I always preface with that too.
I'm really happy for you Flea, but be careful too. We thought we were set with the money Freddy's parents left us until the economy tanked in the last two years and everything we'd saved and they'd saved got cut in half even with everything we've done to diversify! Very scary for us.
I know Beth... I'm so tired of it!
HAHAHA! Lisa, I love using Corey napping as your excuse not to vacuum. Fortunately, I have a bad back and actually have a valid, doctor's excuse. I have used the vacuum... let's see, maybe five times in the last oh, ten years. I have a cleaning lady (my bestie) and Freddy vacuums if we need it in between. hehehe... My ortho told me, and wrote it down, that vacuuming was one of the worst things you could do if you had back issues. So, I don't unless absolutely necessary.
Heather, I can just see you now as Mrs Bond! Shaken, not stirred. We need pictures of that!

Heather your painting is lovely!
I eat my spinach daily in my smoothie, because I'm not a big fan of veggies. My diet would be better if I swapped the chocolate for broccoli but I wouldn't be happier.
I started moving things in the basement. I have an old computer that has the bulk of my photos on it. I ought to do something with that. At the moment it is a spider village.
There is also something black and crumbly that falls from the unfinished ceiling. I suppose it's not hurting anything though.
I've been up and down the stairs a couple of times, so now I'm resting my knee. Trying not to get hurt in this adventure.

Little boy has a new helper to help mommy in the kitchen .. as you can see it works and the last picture he is enjoying a pancake..
Carmine went to his session yesterday, the therapist said if he was suicidal it would be weekly but he is not.. after the session the family went to a ramen restaurant which I thought was nice.6 -
