I am always amazed (not in a good way) at the costs of healthcare things in the States.
The home I work at if a full on nursing home. All residents need medical care 24/7. A semi private room is 62.35 per day and a private is 70.10 per day. Everything is included in those costs except 10.00 month for personal items (toothbrush/paste, razors, Kleenex) we buy it but charge 10.00 per month for that convenience. Hairdressing is available on site and we add to the invoice if necessary and cable costs 35.00 a month. Any special equipment is partially covered by the government and a small portion covered by the resident. All meals are provided for this.
The residents can still own property and have savings here. Everything doesn’t need to be sold to be taken care of.
I am always grateful to live here when medical costs are talked about.
Tonight is my last ceramics lesson for this session. Next Thursday is a break and Spring session starts the week after. I need to start a new project tonight.

Our daughter was here and we had a good visit. The moving truck will be at her place soon. My favorite chairs will come to my place & I am excited. The truck will be unloaded including all of our furniture and other items.

Hi Gals,
I can tell from some of the responses that I was not clear. My mom would spend 40,000+ (about) in the 14 weeks she would need care and that would then mean she would not have enough coming in each month from investments to live comfortably the rest of her life. This means what? That at the end of 3 months she is miserable maybe hungry and cold for the rest of her life??? She is 94 granted but a very healthy (other than the hip) the doctors all say to expect a number of more years! So if I work out a bit of a sacrifice now, she will have comfort for the rest of her life.
I accept that some of you could not do that, but for me I could not look myself in the mirror and face myself if I do not try. I consider it paying it forward so that maybe when I need help someone will be there for me.
I am under a lot of stress and feeling pretty raw, so as my friends, please be gentle with me.
(yes, Heather your response was hard to read without tears, we all are wired differently, and hopefully we can each accept that without judgement - I understand that you are trying to protect me from myself, but I need support not protection)

Good evening ladies!
I rode my bike ten minutes and did my dumbbells. Yay! I ate 1120 calories for a deficit of 421. Yay! (Edited to correct for half a banana that I didn't eat)
My knee is a little bit sore, after horseback riding and all. But not bad. I wore the brace to get up the stairs but it's coming off now. I figure it will take at least until next week to get any stronger. I'm doing the PT exercises 3x a week, plus the bike now.
Kim wishing you comfort in your tough situation.

Lanette – thanks for the link. I absolutely must check it out when I get home. I like the protein content. That’ll be good for the days I work
Allie – have a great trip. Feel better soon
katla – I can feel your excitement. How wonderful that your things will soon be there.

I'm not sure about prices in Australia, although I will likely be finding out soon. Nevertheless, I think many aged care health things are covered.

Kim: Adding my love and hugs to the giant wave of light gushing your way.
Rosemarie: Keep being gentle with yourself. I'm glad to read you have some help with preliminary clearing of your home.
I'm finally caught up with reading all your news. I wish I could reply to everyone, but it would be a book. Just know I send everyone energy to heal, cope and maintain your amazing grace and strength. The photos, quotes, stats and stuff continue to inspire me.
My update is upbeat. I'm just off a bit of musical binge. I worked/attended 3 concerts in 4 nights this past weekend. For those interested, it's in the spoiler.1. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. I wasn't working were I could see him up close, but I did run into the arena to catch 5 of my favorite songs. At 71, he's still can sing and play continuously for 2.45 hours. My Big Rock Show Craving was more than satisfied. 2. Nathaniel Rateliff and the Colorado Symphony performed the entire album "A Little Touch of Schmillson in the Night". This record came out 50 years ago. My 48 y.o. tenant said he has never heard of Harry Nillson, so I've been keeping Alexa busy playing his hits, and I had forgotten how many great songs he wrote. 3. Hawaiian Music Masters. Three musicians and one dancer ifrom Maui performed beautiful slack key guitar and ukulele music. It was a brisk 30 degrees outside, but the appreciative audience took the opportunity to dress in aloha attire and just for a couple of hours pretend we were in the tropics. Always makes me wonder why the heck I ever left Honolulu...
Meanwhile, I still work pro basketball games and the excitement is building as we get closer to starting the playoffs. My supervisor has tested me in few different positions and seems to have settled on keeping me at one of the busiest, most interesting entrances to the locker room. Fine with me! I love the boys and am meeting so many interesting people. Spending 6 hours on my feet can be strenuous, but I always recover quickly, and can hardly wait to get back to work.
Spring is coming to the N. Hemisphere. I see green shoots popping out. I am another one who loves plants inside and out. I love the color and warmth they add to a space.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Kim - I care so much for you and know you will make the choices that your best self knows. Sometimes life sucks, it just does. We just have to accept it and we don't have to feel good about it, or pretend we like it, or we are somehow rising above it. Our feelings are our feelings.
I send you warm support as you navigate all this. Your peace of mind is on my mind a lot. Lots of love.

Lanette - Yes, I just buy the ones in the supermarket. I do have a water reserve plant pot that I bought from Amazon that I keep it in. Some have lasted years! If the temperature drops outside below freezing, I do move it onto the worktop for the night, as we don't have the heating on at night. My current one was a bit too hothouse as it was bought around Christmas and most of it wilted pretty quickly, but the two remaining stalks are healthy and I hope to see more growth in the warmer weather.1 -
I am doing this Happiness calendar for March. Feel free to copy or simply use it if you’d like!

Kim, {{{HUGS}}} You definitely have to do what you are comfortable with! Like Tracey, I'm blown away by the cost of medical care in the US. And you are absolutely right, your mom should not have to spend the rest of her life cold or hungry.
Rori, always such a pleasure when you pop in. I love how you are embracing this next stage of your life!
Allie, I hope you enjoy your trip! If I'm remembering correctly, this is for a wedding?
Machka, looks like you are truly enjoying your well deserved time off!
Well, I was ill on Tues and Wed, took a Covid test which was negative, but as Ginny pointed out it can take a few days of feeling unwell before the positive test will happen. Thankfully (??) I still felt pretty bad Wed evening so bailed on looking after our granddaughter. Really did not want her, her brother or their parents coming down with whatever I had! Didn't sleep Tues night, but slept like a rock Wed night! Had forgotten to turn off my alarm so when it went off at 7:30 I did wake up, but only long enough to turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Finally emerged around 11 am. I thought it was probably around 9 as I had woken up briefly a few times and then didn't realize that I had fallen asleep again. Needless to say, I feel so much better today, but still not 100%. Will be taking it easy for a few days yet.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Evelyn - so glad you are feeling better. Sleep is amazing, isn't it!
Radio 4 BBC , (available on the Sounds app), has been running their Book of the Week, this week on 'Travellers to Unimaginable Lands', by Dasha Kiper. It's about Alzheimers and their care givers. I think it's interesting for all care givers, because it is so good about the feelings of the carer. Definitely worth a listen, and I will be buying the book for my Kindle.
Like Barbie, I am a great fan of uplifting and informative podcasts. They have become a big part of my life, and I nearly always hear something to surprise, educate, and support me. This week's Dr Chatterjee is about how continuous, repetitive stress can make you sick, affecting the heart, the immune system, inflammatory response etc. This week's Bewildered was about how accepting negative feelings about people is important for spiritual integrity and a greater peace. The truth shall set you free.
I need continual reminders about these things to keep me steady. I feel warmed and held by the ones I choose to listen to. They help me in my walk through life. I love Dan Harris, Barb knows Best, Esther Perel, and my favourite, We Can Do Hard Things. They help me feel less alone in this struggle we call life.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
Morning ladies

,major coastal storm coming in monday.. here is hoping And it looks like it will clear by the time I fly out on Thursday..
Tonight is Doreens wake and it will be like old home week with classmates and family all together..I really want to wear a mask..3 -
Kim, imagine all of us together in a cozy kitchen, talking quietly. Someone brings you a cup of tea. A towel warm from the dryer is wrapped around your shoulders without a word, and warm socks for your feet. A hand briefly lights on your shoulder. Your crones are here. Can you feel all of us?10

Kim - So many gentle hugs headed your way. I woke up thinking of you.1
-
Heather - thank you as well for the basil tips. If I see one at the store that looks healthy I'll take a chance. I'm going to check Spotify for some of those podcasts you mentioned. Already listen to Dr. Chatterjee.
Rori - always fun to see you pop in and let us know what you are up to. Your roommate is learning a lot about the "older generation" lol. Fun concerts and cool job! We are seeing things green up out here as well, some folks are mowing. Just hope we don't get a surprise snowstorm like we did last year.
Kim - I know you are facing a lot with your mom, and thank you for sharing your hard journey with us. It inspired me to dig out my Medicare supplemental insurance plan last night and make sure it covers the skilled nursing co-pay. It does, whew.
I need to hard boil eggs for kidney bean salad, a childhood favorite with kidney beans, chopped egg, celery, a little diced pickle and a spoon of mayo to glue it all together.
And work on my to-do list for the yard and garden. Looks like a bit of sunshine this afternoon and tomorrow, and I'm excited to be able to get out and get some things done! I really love working outside and doing as much as I can.
Make it a fabulous Friday!

Good morning ladies!
Rebecca of Whidbey, how are you feeling today? Did you find a therapist who suits you? What are you cooking today?
Allie, so sorry for your losses.
Kim, hugs and strength to you!
Rosemarie, more hugs as you grieve.
Evelyn glad you are feeling better.
Rori Wow the Boss!
I grew Basil outside in a pot in Fairfax VA in the summer. It likes steamy weather. I remember the instructions said to mist it, and I thought they were crazy to think I had time for that.
It's weigh-in day for me. I lost 2.1 pounds! Yay! And two inches off my waist! Yay! I must be doing something right.
I read a success story last night where a woman maintained a 500 calorie daily deficit for a year with amazing results. I'm closer to 300 I think, depending on how close 1100 calories is to my basal metabolic rate. The numbers really aren't accurate enough to be compared to another person but the inaccuracies are consistent for me. So even if all my calorie numbers are low, say by 200, it is still a consistent plan that gets me two pounds a week lost. Yay!
More taxes with my dad today. I get to call the Social Security Administration. I think we are getting closer to the end, though.
Have a marvelous day!

Kim ... count me with the others who are thinking about you and your situation ...
My own mother just messaged me to tell me about the fight she had with maintenance about the cleanliness of her apartment. She's mad at maintenance , the housekeeper and me as well since I keep telling her you get more bees with honey! I'll call her later when the dust settles ... or in this case ... is cleaned up!

Sitting in DH’s room. He is currently sitting on his wheelchair at 10:07 am Illinois time. I would like to see him standing up and working up to walking again. Keeping my fingers crossed and sending prayers for improvement.
As for MFP—I’m frustrated with them for blocking my photo of Schooner AGAIN.
