:) The delight of a new month, a new page on the calendar, and the opportunity to add healthy habits and discourage some old behaviours that haven't served me well.

:) Thank you for joining me on this journey to better health and fitness. I can't do this alone.

:) The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. We seem to span an age range of nearly 40 years and find common ground among us.

:) Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.

:) Please sign your post with a name or nickname and a location, general or specific to help us feel more connected.

    30. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today. Oops, wimped out on PT, but did manage to drag my weary butt down to the powerline meadow with the dogs, and weed/plant one big pot ;)
    April summary.
Move more: Average steps/day 7693 so far, exceeded 7515 goal hooray!
Fuel better: Good variety of plants/week, quantity improving.
Live now: progressing with Tumble and Shadow grooming and play training. Joe time investment paying off.
Average wt for the month down two tenths of a pound. I’ll take it ;)
    Keep same intentions for May.
Printed out the Oregon HIPAA authorization forms, Joe signed with minimal resistance. Scanned in to laptop, saved to iphone, asked Joe to turn in when he goes for EKG Tuesday, and he agreed. That’s two cooperations I didn’t really expect ;). Next I’ll try medical POA…

Karen yours to pip. Well said.
Machka the bug stuff looks like what the ?carpenter ants??Termites? leave behind after digesting the wood trim around the front windows. [shudder]
Margaret you are right about the usefulness of the humble bumble, plus I like watching them crawl around the evergreen huckleberry blooms. The floral “Temple Lion Censer” made me smile, especially the flowery butt.
Machka cute, yup. Is that a honey bee butt sticking out of the yellow bloom about a third of the way in to from the right edge?
Beth  and :rage: your poor mom has to suffer for over a week to get that bad tooth pulled. No pain meds? Grr.
KJ :… Then, get mad when we were right…” it’s the testosterone poisoning, but knowing that doesn’t help. “not listening to it” is self-care. Brava! Never heard of “mulch glue” sounds like what our traveling pea gravel needs. Thanks!
Lisa love your evolution in action approach to flowers indistinguishable from weeds. Thanks also for the caution about season 2, I’m with you about that kind of humor. Likewise most slapstick, can’t bear the Three Stooges but Joe is a huge fan. those pics. I’m with Levi about wandering fowl.
Rita you can not spend too much time on your self care, not with all that you have to deal with.
Lanette  :noway:  Ah yes, coffee and a cigarette before breakfast, yes I relished that. Haven’t smoked since 1999 and rarely have more than one cup of coffee a month ;) Gorgeous chicken chateau and wow they’ve gotten B I G. ((hugs)) and prayers for Kitty and for you.
Ginny I couldn’t have imagined either ‘til it happened to me. So grateful it’s “behind” me ;)
Tracey you’re right, gonna make sure I get some apple or pomegranate daily for awhile. Thankful you can get in to see the Doctor Thursday. Hope he does whatever you need for medical leave. Fingers X’d for job opportunities, any airline or office would be lucky to get you. your DD’s friend’s humor. Your DD must be a good friend to have such a good one. Prayers the procedure is successful.
Heather how is Johnny? Any recurrence of the dizziness?
    Michele ha ha!
Debbie thanks for the update. Praying Destiny can get into St. Jude’s ASAP.
Barbie thanks for the May fresh start. Loved the “Where did you find that” meme.

Hummingbirds around here are still buzzing around. My stats are from an app called Strava. It tracks my walking, biking, and outside running, it tracks distance, pace, watts, elevation. Also use my Apple Watch to track my average heart rate and max heart rate and the calories that I burned. I never use the calories that it may show on an exercise machine I may be on.

    Welcome Liz

Debbie – St. Jude’s sounds like the right place for Destiny. Thanks for the update. I’m always in awe of her strength

I don’t like coffee, either. The last time I had a cup was about 5 years ago at a Marriott Hotel (so you know it wasn’t cheap brand). I thought it was so very bitter. Even sugar and milk couldn’t make it taste even halfway decently. Haven’t had any since then. Give me tea (or water)

After dinner went with Vince for a short walk. I think he still needs someone to “push” him. I had to go to him and say “are you ready”. If I hadn’t, he probably wouldn’t have gone. Well, I don’t mind being the “pusher”

I didn't keep up with spraying my petunias and this morning they had been chewed by the deer...sigh. And they had looked so pretty! Walked at the gym today..stayed within 1200 calories! Did 2 hours of reading. So overall a good day.
Tomorrow I have plans to get a manicure.

I don't drink coffee very often but if I do, it is as dh calls it, coffee flavored milk. Not that bad but close. I do like my sweetened creamer in it. No way can I drink it black or instant(unless it is instant, like International Coffee-don't drink that very often- use it more as my creamer).
I drink tea ALL day, every day. Start with a black tea in the morning then switch to decaf or herbal around 2PM and keep drinking it until I go to bed. Yes, I am up very often during the night because of it.
Right now I am having Good Earth Sweet and Spicy- strong cinnamon taste- one of my favorites and drinking it from my favorite cup- former hubby gave it to me with a picture of the two of us when he came out to visit. Went to Pier 39.

Good morning. A good May morning. A gorgeous morning.

Thank you Barbie for shepherding us all into a new month. :D

The burning question is, will I run this morning? Peut-être.

I have a couple of things I want to improve this month, my nails and my AF days. Oh, and my fewer carbs days.

    Could be a painting afternoon?

Never got a taste for coffee

I have never smoked. I discovered early on that being anywhere near cigarette smoke made me feel really sick.

Plus it was never something I wanted to spend money on.

Coffee, on the other hand is good! And I mostly drink strong instant coffee. Black as night. 1 to 3 mugs a day.

Well, my peut-être turned into, Oui, bien sûr, so I set out happily.
When I got to Kingsway, a big dual carriageway along the seafront, I tripped halfway across the first carriageway, and ended up staggering across the raised central reservation, falling, and landing smack in the far one. By some miracle nothing was coming. I sprained my wrist, scraped my hands and was horribly shaken. Sore ribs.
I crawled and slithered back to the reservation and some passing cyclists shouted to ask if I was OK. I said I was!
Then a refuse lorry slowed down and asked if I was alright. He then stopped the lorry and he and a young woman got out and came across. They helped me to get across to the street corner, stayed with me, and rang DH. He came in the car to get me.
So, I'm at home, icing my wrist, which is very painful. Ribs sore. But what a lucky escape! I hadn't even checked the far carriageway when I set off across the first one, because I always stop in the middle!
So, I'm let off doing anything much today! :o
The names of my helpers were Gary and Patricia, so I've emailed the council to commend them.
    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

    Sorry that happened!

I hope you've been to see the doctor ... for the wrist but especially for the ribs.

    2023 Goals

My 2023 goals are a continuation of my 2021 and 2022 goals based on my ToDo list and my 50Things list with reference to a Wellness Wheel.
Upcoming Appointments - these are at the top of my list. The things I need to deal with in the next few weeks.
End April Update: I don't have a lot of appointments on the calendar for this month yet! But the month is still young.

Intellectual/Occupational/Financial or Education/Career: Advancing my career. Moving from adequate to proficient at SQL, brushing up on VB and cost accounting, learning Python and data analysis software.
Also, I want to have a closer look at our financial situation to see where we can save money and to make sure we're on top of things.

The goal is to expand my skillset and to improve our financial situation.
End April Update: Getting into new job. Started learning lots of new things.

Medical: my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition and my appointments now that I've been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease.
I also want to create medical record binders (and on the computer) for both of us, in case something happens.

The goal is to keep us as healthy as we can be and to ensure we have information at our fingertips.
End April Update: Vaccinations = Done! May find out something about my kidneys this month.

Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania: There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
On my 50Things list I have all sorts of things like riding a horse for the first time, trying archery, learning to dance. Maybe this might be the year to try a bit of that.

The goal it to improve my fitness level.
End April Update: April was a decent month for exercise. Also did quite a bit for/with our cycling club.

House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (kitchen, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.

The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house and computer system.
The goal is also to ensure all paperwork is up to date and accessible by both of us.

End April Update: More gardening than inside work in April. But continued organising my computer system a bit.

Garden: I have several projects I would like to do this year. One of the main ones is to finally finish my dry stream. :)

The goal is to have a pleasant, creative, relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
End April Update: Started new garden project. Lots of heavy work.

Spiritual: Continue to read the Bible every day. And attend church a little bit more often.

The goal is to learn, relearn, revitalise.
End April Update: Reading the Bible every day.

Emotional/Social/Recreation: More creativity, relaxation, connections. I have all sorts of things on my 50Things list like doing more with my photography, playing the piano again, working on my website and more.

The goal is balance. Doing a variety of things that aren't just work and education.
End April Update: lots of coloring! Lots of reading.

    16aures3zwbr.png

    Highlights of February

    • I exercised 27 of the 28 days, and in that time, I walked, cycled, climbed stairs, rowed, and gardened
    • I had a follow-up with my new doctor. Brain cyst holding steady, most blood numbers are the same or improved. Kidneys still and issue.
    • In the garden, I have basically finished the dry stream project. Yesterday, I finished the planting around the dry stream. I'll likely keep playing with it a bit ... adding a few more rocks, monitoring the flowers around it, etc. but the work is done enough that I've just started on another area of the garden.
    • We have checked and wintered-down our bees ... well, OK, that was today.
    • At work, I produced a fairly final project plan and presented it to management. I also got each of the 3 goals started, and presented those to management too. Wonderful learning experience!!
    • I also gained experience in dealing with a difficult coworker. Both project management and dealing with difficult coworkers are areas in interviews where I've been a little bit weak. Now I've got strong responses to those questions!
    • We're continuing our relationships and connections within the beekeeping community, cycling community and brain injury community.
    • We had guest in mid-Feb and a house inspection toward the end of Feb so we have cleaned our place! So much tidying inside and out as well as vacuuming, scrubbing, washing etc. etc. Even the outside of the windows got cleaned!
    • Lots of colouring and reading for pleasure.
    • I am off work for 2.5 weeks which is lovely.
    • I've been reading the Bible every day.

    Highlights of March
    • I exercised 26 of the 31 days, and in that time, I walked, cycled, climbed stairs, and gardened. I missed 4 days because of the cat bite, and 1 day because we were travelling.
    • We completed two 50 km rides fairly close together!!
    • Skin cancer removal scars healing on nose and hip. Cat bite on hand healing. Coincidence (??) - while I was taking antibiotics for cat bit, my nose scar area seemed to make a significant improvement! Tests for right index finger - might be a fracture, might be arthritis. Found 2 good doctors I could use as back-up doctors through hand issues. Kidneys still an issue.
    • In the garden, I added a few more rocks to dry stream garden, tidied up the whole garden/yard, and worked a little on new garden project.
    • At work, I started a new job!! I'm back working in health again but with data and accounting!! Lots to learn and really nice to be back with people I've known for almost 10 years and some new ones.
    • We're continuing our relationships and connections within the beekeeping community, cycling community and brain injury community.
    • Got new photos of granddaughter - she's so cute!
    • We took a holiday during the first half of March and travelled to northern Tasmania. Cycling, walking on the beach and in parks.
    • Lots of colouring and reading for pleasure.
    • I've been reading the Bible every day.

    Highlights of April
    • I exercised 29 of the 30 days, and in that time, I walked, cycled, climbed stairs, and gardened.
    • We completed one 50 km ride right near the end of the month.
    • Vaccinations done.
    • In the garden, I started the next project with the goal of having a row of a variety of low maintenance bushes which will hopefully appeal to the bees and
    • At work, I am getting into my new job! So much to learn and really nice to be back with people I've known for almost 10 years and some new ones.
    • We're continuing our relationships and connections within the beekeeping community, cycling community and brain injury community. I've been busy with cycling club advertising in the last few days.
    • We've been able to visit our son, daughter-in-law and grand daughter twice recently.
    • Lots of colouring and reading for pleasure.
    • I've been reading the Bible every day.

April was kind of an odd month.
Most Aprils with Easter at the beginning and ANZAC Day would have included lots of time off and some travel around the state.
This April, we didn't go anywhere and instead, I spent a lot of time working on legal stuff.
But that also meant I was able to spend a bit more time in the garden too.

    Good morning ladies!

Thank you Barbie for the new thread!

Heather so sorry you fell! Ice and support are great things to do. So glad there were people to rescue you.

I have a cold today, but no pressing errands. I better cancel my PT for tomorrow. Time to read a book in bed, and drink hot tea all day.
