The delight of a new month, a new page on the calendar, and the opportunity to add healthy habits and discourage some old behaviours that haven't served me well.
Thank you for joining me on this journey to better health and fitness. I can't do this alone.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. We seem to span an age range of nearly 40 years and find common ground among us.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.

Machka the bug stuff looks like what the ?carpenter ants??Termites? leave behind after digesting the wood trim around the front windows. [shudder]
Margaret you are right about the usefulness of the humble bumble, plus I like watching them crawl around the evergreen huckleberry blooms. The floral “Temple Lion Censer” made me smile, especially the flowery butt.
Machka cute, yup. Is that a honey bee butt sticking out of the yellow bloom about a third of the way in to from the right edge?
Beth  and your poor mom has to suffer for over a week to get that bad tooth pulled. No pain meds? Grr.

Hummingbirds around here are still buzzing around. My stats are from an app called Strava. It tracks my walking, biking, and outside running, it tracks distance, pace, watts, elevation. Also use my Apple Watch to track my average heart rate and max heart rate and the calories that I burned. I never use the calories that it may show on an exercise machine I may be on.2 -

Welcome Liz
Debbie – St. Jude’s sounds like the right place for Destiny. Thanks for the update. I’m always in awe of her strength
I don’t like coffee, either. The last time I had a cup was about 5 years ago at a Marriott Hotel (so you know it wasn’t cheap brand). I thought it was so very bitter. Even sugar and milk couldn’t make it taste even halfway decently. Haven’t had any since then. Give me tea (or water)
After dinner went with Vince for a short walk. I think he still needs someone to “push” him. I had to go to him and say “are you ready”. If I hadn’t, he probably wouldn’t have gone. Well, I don’t mind being the “pusher”

I didn't keep up with spraying my petunias and this morning they had been chewed by the deer...sigh. And they had looked so pretty! Walked at the gym today..stayed within 1200 calories! Did 2 hours of reading. So overall a good day.
Tomorrow I have plans to get a manicure.
Best,

I don't drink coffee very often but if I do, it is as dh calls it, coffee flavored milk. Not that bad but close. I do like my sweetened creamer in it. No way can I drink it black or instant(unless it is instant, like International Coffee-don't drink that very often- use it more as my creamer).
I drink tea ALL day, every day. Start with a black tea in the morning then switch to decaf or herbal around 2PM and keep drinking it until I go to bed. Yes, I am up very often during the night because of it.
Right now I am having Good Earth Sweet and Spicy- strong cinnamon taste- one of my favorites and drinking it from my favorite cup- former hubby gave it to me with a picture of the two of us when he came out to visit. Went to Pier 39.2 -
So I am gung ho for May!
Thanks Barbie for starting us off on the right foot, for May. This is my Month of Perseverance!
I made soup today and put in 10 containers with a bit of protein (ie beans, kielbasa sausage or chicken). I have decided to get a kick start and eat that for the next 10 days. To have a snack beforehand, I toasted some coconut flakes mixed in some dark chocolate pieces, some raw cashews, and a handful of oats, then drizzled some honey on top. Its now in the freezer after baking. I will put in little containers for the snack. When I make my soup every day, I will saute onions and mushrooms, then add the soup in the pan. After my soup I will have fruit, either grapefruit segments, some blueberries or blackberries. Then to end it all, I will warm up some oat milk and add my golden milk spices. Its just turmeric, cinnamon and ginger.
I will also be starting to go to the gym. The first days will just be going to the sauna though. In the afternoons I plan on experiencing ice baths. Well really just a bath with no hot water in it. They (the professional ice bathers😁) say that its good for your circulation. I will let you know.
I also gave myself a haircut. It was really a wack job, but I had fun and there's a pile of hair in the bin. I will probably be adjusting and trimming with each shampoo. The most important thing I did was trim from ear to ear in the back. I used clippers and made a 2 inch patch that I just buzzed. I noticed that I get so warm in the back of my head so I got rid of the bulk. I still have a bob type hairstyle so you can't really see it the buzzed part. Gone are my hair clips and hair ties. The fact of the matter is, for 90% of the time I put my hair up. So I just cut it enough that its not touching my shoulder.
Hugs ladies!

Good morning. A good May morning. A gorgeous morning.
Thank you Barbie for shepherding us all into a new month.
The burning question is, will I run this morning? Peut-être.
I have a couple of things I want to improve this month, my nails and my AF days. Oh, and my fewer carbs days.
Could be a painting afternoon?
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Won't be a painting afternoon because the cleaner is coming. I could doodle though.

Barbie, thank you once again for getting us started!
Just a few random comments that I wanted to remember (I'm sure there's lots that I don't remember!)
Lanette, great looking chicken coop! How nice that Roger wants to honour your hubby's memory by helping you out.
Tracey, sucks to have a boss that makes you dread going to work. I do hope you can find something else and soon! Good luck to your daughter with the IVF stuff! I love the creativeness her friends are showing with the gift basket, and I'm sure it will be appreciated.
Machka, I saw the little bumblebee butt sticking out of the nasturtium! I was on my phone so had to magnify and do a lot of scrolling, but I found it, lol.
Kim, has your brother been living with your mom all this time? For some reason I thought you had been visiting her once in awhile. It's quite possible that I'm confused tho.... Unfortunate about all the circumstances surrounding the whole business. {{{HUGS}}}
Pip, I'm glad you confronted your mom and I hope that gives you the peace that you deserve.
Rebecca, so what it sounds like to me is that the navy lost your son, or misplaced him or something. Seems a bit irresponsible on their part.... You need {{{HUGS}}} too!
Katla and Karen, so happy with your respective spouses progress!
On burial vs cremation:Several years before they passed, my parents made their final arrangements for cremation and paid for it all so when they did pass, I only had to actually take their remains to where they wanted to be, which was at the foot of my sister's grave. She passed in toddlerhood and before I was born. At the time, we weren't sure if we would be able to do that, the cemetary was a private one that hadn't allowed cremains. I had told them that I would make sure that's where they would be even if I had to be out there at midnight with a shovel and flashlight. Fortunately, the rules changed and it didn't come to that. I also had a headstone made, but that was my idea. But them having things paid for in advance just made the whole thing so much easier for me (I'm an only child), so hubby and I have also made and paid for our arrangements. We will be cremated and then placed in a nice west facing columbar. They kind of remind
me of the community mailboxes, but whatever. We also got matching urns. Probably paid more than we had to, but at least the kids won't have to deal with it. My MIL did not have any arrangements made and when she went into care they kept asking us, so we had to go in and spend money we didn't really have to get that settled. It goes without saying that she didn't have any money. We were fortunate in that while we had signed medical POA, we did not sign anything to do with her finances, so when she did pass, owing thousands of dollars for a reverse mortgage for the house, it wasn't our problem. Whew! That problem belonged to the person that she willed the house to.
My apologies for the novel, it wasn't my intention to be so wordy. I should probably post more than once a week, then I won't feel the need to comment on so much!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Never got a taste for coffee
I have never smoked. I discovered early on that being anywhere near cigarette smoke made me feel really sick.
Plus it was never something I wanted to spend money on.
Coffee, on the other hand is good! And I mostly drink strong instant coffee. Black as night. 1 to 3 mugs a day.
